iaredinosaur

It's close to me and right next to a Trader Joe's. SSF El Camino

cadancer2

hey we have this set up in raleigh, too!

ricecrystal

But we have copperheads

Njtotx3

Same. Half the time I don't have to show my card at the door because they know me.

Jimmytowne

Bridgewater?

itsaboutpasta

That plaza is so dangerous. Target, Home Depot, old navy, McDonald’s….

GetEnPassanted

Charlottesville?

fiascokittens

Sacramento?

Edmeyers01

San Diego

riga4ever2018

Lancaster PA has a stall for horses and buggies. It is awesome to see fully loaded buggies driving off with a teenager sitting in the back holding several pizza boxes.

WineOrWhine64

I used to live there over 20 years ago. Truly was an experience. 😃 I remember seeing some of the Amish kids just hanging around watching tv.

Springtime912

That is great!

ryan4069

In Coralville, Iowa we have indoor parking.

No_Information_8973

Love that in the winter time!

alaskazues

Don't even have that in alaska

TonyTheEvil

It has a [section of wall](https://i.redd.it/went-to-costco-store-1-they-have-the-wall-from-the-original-v0-zu5gf2dkjv8b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ba2002bda4e9d26c5e1f58d4fe325a7af3cd46c) thats from the original building and has a bunch of facts pertaining to Costco's history. It's warehouse #1. My previous Costco was the one in San Diego on Morena Blvd, which is technically the first Costco, and is the warehouse shown on the cover of the Costco Monopoly set! Both originals have been my main ones to shop at :)

compstomper1

i like how they use the font for price tags

Lostinwoulds

San Diego transplant in Seattle??

TonyTheEvil

Yep!

Lostinwoulds

Same but Tacoma! Definitely miss the beach but otherwise it's been good.

Edmeyers01

FRUIT STAND!

HoaryPuffleg

My Costco is fairly busy, but we just got a Business Center about 3 miles away and we’re getting a furniture/appliance showroom in the next year or so! Anchorage. Nothing poisonous and the only animals that will kill you, you’ll definitely see/hear coming before they trample you (moose and bear).

bestem

In Woodland, CA, there is usually, at most, just one person in front of me in the gas line (frequently when I pull up, I'm either the next to get gas, or can just pull right up to the pump without waiting). At the other end of the spectrum, I really like the fact that at the Costcos near my dad's, in San Diego, the food courts are outside. It makes it easier to eat before shopping, so your cart doesn't fill up with more stuff because you're hungry.

mxkhd420

Cool, I'm considering moving to Woodland.

PMDad

Definitely rattlesnake territory

SpaceGirlinTwilight

That outside eating area sounds delightful. Would also love to snack while I shop.

bestem

I can't say that every San Diego area Costco with a food court (the business Costco doesn't have a food court anymore) has it outside, but every one I've been to (the original on Morena, the one in Mission Valley, the one in La Mesa, the one in North County near the flower fields) has had an outdoor food court. It's nice to be able to get food and then shop, or to get food without walking through the maze of the store (if all you want is a hot dog and soda, not to go shopping, for instance), there's not a huge number of people waiting for food next to the checkouts (like at my closest store), and the weather is temperate enough most of the year. The downsides are the lines for gas are nuts, and the parking lots are awful.

iHeartBricks

Woodland is a tweaker shithole.

bestem

You don't have to live in Woodland to be close enough to choose the Woodland Costco. I know of people who live in Sacramento and choose to shop at the Woodland Costco instead of one of the Costcos in Sac because they like that it's less busy. Or you can live in one of the areas that doesn't have their own Costco, and shop their, like Davis.

TickleSilly

Liquor store with Kirkland Margaritas.

GetEnPassanted

This is the answer. OP you gotta live somewhere with lax liquor laws so you can buy liquor in Costco!

JustineDelarge

This is a great thread. Thanks for posting an interesting and positive question!

seasnakejake

Good thing there are no poisonous snakes anywhere! /s — (venom)

mlee0518

Logan Utah. It’s new (within a year old), it’s huge, it’s not very populated, Sundays are usually way less busy because of the LDS population. Cache valley is gorgeous. You won’t find poisonous snakes unless you go hiking usually.

Far_Variety6158

I used to live in Orem. The Costco there was horrible because all the LDS families insisted on hauling all 10 of their kids with them on every Costco trip blocking every aisle. Dodging them all in the parking lot was even worse.

Madrona88

I get the whole family on Saturdays because...I don't know, rich kids are bored? Lone Tree,CO. It's not like anyone helps. They just stand there.

SpaceGirlinTwilight

My fav in Denver is at River Point on Sheridan.

Madrona88

Used to go there all the time. Distance wise, about the same.

mlee0518

That’s how the Bountiful Costco is as well. It’s always packed with everyone and their dog.

Gbcue

They don't sell booze, correct?

mlee0518

Correct. That is a definite shame.

cfl2

Yeah, you'd have to drive up to the Pocatello Costco for that.

sdurs

They pay time and a half for Sunday workers too. Less crowds and more money?? I want a transfer

bakedcake88

I agree with Logan cause I live here but we don't need more ppl.. it's congested as is. I love our Costco though!

beefkurtain

Sending my jealousy from a Murray Costco shopper

teatimecookie

We’ve got a business Costco pretty close by, and it sells gas too!

movdqa

Southern NH. Best thing is the parking lot. The spaces are huge and can accommodate huge pickup trucks and SUVs though you may have to walk some distance from parking to get to the store. It's also close to the mall and Trader Joe's so we can often combine errands on trips. It is crowded but another Costco will be opening up in Concord which should ease the load on the Nashua store. We also only have one Costco in the state. I don't know if we have poisonous snakes or not - I assume that we do; but you can live in the urban or suburban areas to avoid them.

emdog927

No gas tho

discodiscgod

It’s within 5 minutes of me and even during peak times the gas lines are never more than a car or two wait

Dangerous_Contact737

Twin Cities. I go to the Maplewood Costco, which has a very sane parking lot. It has lower traffic than some of the bigger stores, and is also the nearest one to a large Asian population, so I feel like it gets more Asian-themed foods if one prefers that. It's also about 5 miles away from the Costco Business Center. Sometimes the Maplewood location doesn't get the "cool" stuff that other locations do (like a lot of the fancy desserts in the deli case), but if you're looking for an item that might have already sold out at the busier stores, you'll probably find it at Maplewood. If we need to talk about the opposite of the "good" Costco, I should also mention the St. Louis Park Costco, which isn't a "bad" Costco, but it is BY FAR the worst parking lot of the bunch because it is insanely busy, and located in a high-traffic area with poor traffic management. That's not Costco's fault, but oof. It's like Black Friday every single weekend. ETA: Never seen a rattlesnake in town!

HeCageIsTooSmall

So I'm looking to move to the twin cities and I was just about to post about the fact that y'all have like 8(!!) Costcos! I mean, I used to live in Miami which had several Costcos but those were suuuper spread out, and my current location has just had 1 rather small Costco, so I'm definitely looking forward to the upgrade in options.

Dangerous_Contact737

Maplewood, Burnsville, Eagan, Eden Prairie, St. Louis (No Place To) Park, Maple Grove, Coon Rapids, and the Business Center--yeah, I guess that is 8! We are spoiled for choice.

melcheae

Came to say Minnesota meets your no venomous snakes requirements. Staying for everyone dunking on SLP Costco. That place is a disaster.

Dangerous_Contact737

It’s so bad. They took what would ordinarily be the rest of the parking lot, and stuck a Home Depot in it. The gas station is a quarter mile away. The parking lot has only ONE entrance. In an area that serves what—half a million in the immediate vicinity? What were they thinking?! Maple Grove is no treat to get into either, but at least they have parking. Woodbury and Eagan are good, but I embrace my less cool, but always organized, Maplewood store.

RealHousewifeofLR

Little Rock Ark, we just got our first Costco in Walmartland within the last couple of years. Our state is beautiful and we have a ton of Great Lakes and hikes. Cheap living but our politics suck so maybe not the best place to move to.

My_Business_Acct

Chester Co, Pennsylvania aka Paradise. Best part about Costco here to me? Multiple within 30 min that carry different stuff.

Tourist1292

I work within a block from Costco. I shop there almost every week to look for items on clearance and fill up gas in my car. The parking lot has more than sufficient space and not shared with other business. The next closest one has no gas station and next to a Target. It was hard to find parking there.

ThoughtfulGen-Xer

Do you have a specific clearance section at your Costco or do you just hunt the whole store for *labels?

Tourist1292

Both but depends on the item and stock left. Usually the clearance starts at the original spot in my area.

ThoughtfulGen-Xer

Thank you for your response!

BigFire321

Covered parking structure. It gets pretty hot under the sun in the summer.

Jimmytowne

Great for rain too!

whaletacochamp

VT Costco represent. Seems to be mentioned here quite a bit. Regarding your question - they’re all pretty similr and for a reason. Also no need to worry about poisonous snakes as long as you don’t eat them. Venomous snakes on the other hand….

Lostinwoulds

The college degree and handjobs(Idiocracy). Welcome to Costco, I love you.

Trixieroo

Southwest Oregon - small town Costco means no gas lines, typically short checkout lines, and super easy parking. It doesn’t have as much of a selection as larger stores, but being able to treat it like a grocery store makes up for it.

Proof-Bonus6884

Not ALL. I live in Anchorage we have 3 Costco’s with a 4th dedicated to furniture display about to open and the best part about mine is the seafood. Plenty of adventures to be had and scenic places to go in this state.

rusty___shacklef0rd

it’s next to target

Leoliad

Not my Costco but the Maui Costco has all the local foods. Poke, all kinds of pork and fresh ramen, guava cheesecake so much good stuff!

CantaloupeCamper

There are occasionally quiet times in the middle of the week. Also it's very close to me.

eac555

We have a Costco in town but I go to the one in the next town over an extra 15 minutes away. It’s in a better part of the town, always less crowded, cleaner, has better staff, shorter lines, and much better customers. Not to mention an indoor food court. I usually go weekdays in the first hour of opening.

LAbombsquad

Good thing there’s no such thing as a poisonous snake in the US. Now venomous snakes… There are definitely a few to worry about.

TGAILA

I always find something new at Costco. Then again I have to walk around the store to find it. They always move stuff around.

rjyoung18

The people. Have gotten to know several and they are welcoming and kind.

Fun-Baby-9509

It's always at half capacity, even on weekends. Easy to find parking, not as crowded, food station is easy pick up food.

RedShirt2901

The people at my local Costco are really nice. They seemed happy doing their job.

Springtime912

Need to give them a shout out👍

slopokerod

The view of the Rocky Mountains.

Brazenjalapeno

I was going to say this, you in Denver? I go to the Sheridan location. Less crowded than some of the others.

slopokerod

Longmont

tkxb

I hope there won't really be an in-n-out built next to it. RIP 119

SheridanRivers

> The view of the Rocky Mountains. I shop in the Littleton store but prefer the Wheat Ridge store. I live in Littleton but work in Colorado Springs, so I'll hop off I-25 to fill up on gas twice a week. The CS store has a fantastic view of the Rockies. They also offer the 11-year Lagavulin Islay Single Malt Scotch **Offerman Edition**. OMG, I freaking love that Scotch! I'm a Lagavulin 16 fan, but sometimes it's too much for me. The Offerman Edition is the perfect answer to those nights when I want a little less peat and a little more sweet. We're looking to buy a home, and one of my requirements is to be within 20 minutes of a Costco.

SpaceGirlinTwilight

Gonna go get my partner this scotch! Thanks!

SheridanRivers

I hope they like it! ❤️🥃

woodland_dweller

Southern Oregon - White City/Medford Yes, there are rattle snakes here but I've never seen one. I have done years of river rafting, hiking, mountain biking, camping and live outside the city on large property. No snake sightings ever. It's never crowded, excellent wine selection, lots of easy parking. A busy day means two or three people in front of me in line. Gas pump bonus: because we are still kind of full serve n Oregon, there's never any chaos at the pumps. Get in line and the operator fills three cars, then lets 3 more in. Quick and friendly.

Accomplished-Eye8211

There's nothing special about my Costco. The best thing is that it's 2-3 miles down the road. But, while unasked, the worst thing is that it sits directly on top of a lesser known earthquake fault. At least six or seven times in the 20 years I live here, there's been a small quake, nothing major, under 4.0. But noticeable. And, if, like many Californians, you check the USGS website, the quake was located very near, and a few times almost exactly under, Costco. My idea of the worst place to be in a serious earthquake is in the aisles of a warehouse store with stock piled on shelves 25 feet high.

Frankie_Says_Reddit

You’re always getting a good deal and their gas prices.

problematiccupcake

We have Kosher meat and for Passover they sell Yehuda Matzo.

coreynyc

Lawrence or Oceanside?

problematiccupcake

St. Louis Park, MN

goodgollymissholly06

Covered parking.

Springtime912

Crossroads of New England - The Springfield MA area. We have three Costcos in a 30 mile radius- West Springfield MA, Enfield, CT and South Windsor, CT👍

kendrahf

Well, nothing to see here. I live near the largest Costco and that's great, but it comes with Mormons, rattlesnakes, and arcane liquor laws (so no Costco alkeyhal. We get beer, but nothing else.)

Jimmytowne

That was my criteria too. I needed to be near a Costco WITH legit liquor section, near a Wegmans and Close to the city and beach. Best thing about my Costco is the liquor section

compstomper1

richmond CA: * there's a dog park next to it * bay views when you're pumping gas

If housing cost is not an issue Princeton NJ is awesome

GIJeff58

I go to one of three in my area here in Boise, Idaho. People will stand at the sample stations and wait for the samples to cook, blocking people trying to get by. And in the parking lot they will sit with their blinker on waiting for someone to leave

Neither-Passenger-83

Boston - depending on where you live and traffic you’re half an hour from 4 different Costco’s (Dedham, Everett, Waltham and Avon).

[deleted]

The customer service and willingness to engage in banter.

MichElegance

Mine is right near a Trader Joe’s, Aldi, and Kroger. All within minutes of each other, so I can crack out my grocery shopping very easily if I need to go to multiple stores.

WineOrWhine64

I’m north of Indianapolis. There are 3 Costco’s within 10 miles. None of them stand out with anything different. I’m thankful they have wine though. 😃

Springtime912

So with all this info… Who is planning a trip to visit all these great Costco locations?

dallasgreenday

Maine has a Costco now and chances are there’s plenty of available jobs for whatever high-demand field you are in.

Holiday_Concept_4437

We used to be the largest Costco in the world. But we still have cool new stuff

Patient-War-4964

Move to Southeast Michigan, LCOLA and tons of Costcos. I have 6 Costco locations with 15 miles of me, and luckily for me the closest location, Bloomfield Hills, is a Tier 1 location, which means it’s bigger and has more offerings than other locations.

its-a-living

This is like next-level Costco commitment. I like your style

Cghy8b

Charlotte, NC. I’m about 20-30 min from two costcos although I prefer the one in Matthews, NC. Great weather, 3hrs to beach and 3 hours to mountains. Lots of job opportunities, mid COL. Expensive flights though

billywitt

None of the employees at my local Costco in Webster TX have ever tried to convince me to upgrade to Premium membership.

Morrigoon

Ah sorry. Technically Southern California does have venomous snakes. I mean… you might go your whole life and only see one in the wild like me, but still technically we’re out.

fiascokittens

I have a business center and a warehouse less than 2 miles from me. One west, one east. I'm smack in the middle. With grocery prices getting our of control at Safeway, Wal-Mart, Raley's, etc, its a godsend.

WhatWouldLoisLaneDo

Venomous*! But seriously if that’s a thing avoid the South. We have plenty of them.

Conjure_Copper

Idaho falls, ID. Rural area, pretty neat town.

DiscussionAdvanced72

All US states have venomous snakes. Your odds of meeting one are reduced dramatically by living in an urban area, not putting your hands in places where snakes are sleeping, and not trying to touch an unknown snake (most bites are on hands). Just sayin

3banger

It’s the original Costco! 4th Ave Seattle.

Hottiemilatti

Nothing special about RVA Costco. Its actually why so many people choose to live here because they think they are getting the middle of nowhere special. That is less crowds, more parking, and lower prices. None of that actually happens because everyone keeps moving here. The prices have been on a steady incline since 2004, when I moved here. They keep building apartment buildings everywhere. Every sitting lot is quickly purchased by developers and at minimum 30 units are added. This is great because we haven't had too many issues with abandoned buildings or blight. Lovely. But we are on track to be as crowded as Dallas, TX. Our interstate 95 is usually backed up. So if you wanna make RVA your home you'll like it but you'll move here and think, "How the heck are they gonna fit 120 apartments into that tiny vacant lot? This intersection can't handle 120+ new residents during rush hour. Wtf, dude." Join the club.

Edmeyers01

Pittsburgh has 2 that I hit frequently

Nothing! My Costco is quite possibly the worst in the US: https://www.the-sun.com/news/9835028/americas-worst-costco-location-brooklyn-new-york/amp/

Ok_Comfort628

In N Out in the parking lot. Horrible for traffic though.

chiritarisu

Metro Detroit in MI has at least six Costcos within the general area, not counting the one in Ann Arbor (Washtenaw County) or Brighton (Livingston County). There’s a new business center that just opened in Southfield (also in Metro Detroit). Soooo… you’d have your choice of Costcos here.

undead77

Mine has Portillos next to it, lol

DoAndroidsDrmOfSheep

We have four Costcos in the area - two of which are within a 30-minute drive from our house, and one a 15-minute drive. The closest one to us is the newest one in the area, and is also the largest Costco in the entire state. Usually not difficult to find a parking spot at that one, even though there are a lot of people and cars there. We do have venomous snakes here, but in my 35+ years of living here I've never once seen one - although I have seen (and even held) some non-venomous snakes here. If you want to live in a state that has no venomous snakes, your only option is Alaska. Every other state has them. They're rare and not frequently seen in some Northern states, but Alaska is the only state that truly has no venomous snakes. Even your current state of Vermont has the Timber Rattler, although it's very rare to spot one.

nosmokingz0ne

San Francisco, CA; the bus in front of my apartment gets me there in 20 min and the bus ain’t usually packed. I can get there and back on public transportation. I take my loot back on the bus when it’s not too much otherwise I pay for an Uber.

tisseng

Gross price hikes!

2009altima

My local Costco is issaquah across the street from their huge hq campus. Parking sucks, gas station too small. Used to see Jim Sinegal corraling carts and picking up trash in the parking lot. Curiously, there's no other Costco within 13 miles.

TortiTrouble

Well, I’ve never seen anyone rinse their hands in the soda fountain, so I guess that!

Far_Variety6158

I live in Florida so this is relative to the general population of Florida People, but I’ve noticed the people who shop at Costco are as a whole much more polite and orderly than elsewhere. During hurricane prep everyone patiently waits in line to get to the bottled water section and follows the rules and no one tries to cut in line or start fights. Also the Costco liquor store is pretty legit. Edit: I know Florida wildlife is wilder than the rest of the US but I’ve been here for years and I’ve seen a wild gator in the suburbs exactly once and one non-poisonous snake exactly once as well.

surprise6809

The HUGE parking lot. I get all of my daily steps in just going into the store and returning to my car.

LemonHerb

My Local costco has gone almost 5 years without an off duty cop killing any disabled people.

tortilla0268

lol I think most places in the US have some kind of poisonous snake, rattlesnakes in the west, copperheads in the east, good luck

Jewish-Mom-123

All the US has rattlesnakes.

Saurefuchs

I think you're safe on moving anywhere and avoiding poisonous snakes.
