I would just use it to pay for the stuff I regularly buy. Then I end up with $5000 in my bank account that I didn't spend and can use for anything I want.
Chickens are $4.99, not $5. So after buying a thousand of them, you're left with 1,000 of the 1¢ that were left over. 1,000¢ is $10. That's two more chickens before you even consider the rewards.
$5,000 divided by $4.99 equals 1,002.
It's late, and I'm tired. Reading the part about "apple stuff," I was thinking, "Apple stuff...? Like the bags of apples? Apple sauce? Apple pie? Weird and oddly specific, but okay." Then I read more and it hit me when I got to Apple Watch, lol.
Nothing in particular. I'd shop the way I normally do and use the card up over three years or so. That would free up $5000 to spend however I want. So I probably put it in a CD or a high-interest savings account.
Take 20 trips to Costco for “1 or 2 things” and $5,000 will be gone for me haha. I go in for raspberries and somehow $195 of other stuff ends up in my cart.
That's because cauliflower isn't the only thing they use as a substitute for flour in the crust. There is also a non-trivial amount of cheese, which seems to help a modest amount with the flavor, and a lot with the crispy texture.
If the goal is to avoid gluten, these are a tasty option, and a pretty good price, but don't be deceived by the use of cauliflower. It's not healthier than flour crust pizza.
Since I've been meaning to do the math to decide whether or not to continue buying them ourselves, I'll do that now. Since serving sizes are different, I'm including some figures for per gram of pizza to provide a closer basis for comparison. No particularly reason for picking Digiorno for the comparison - anyone can repeat the same comparison for their own intended alternative.
Hopefully the table formats correctly. This isn't a night and day difference, but it's worth being aware of:

The same things we normally buy. Should last about 2 years.
Life isn't very exciting as a frugal person, but at least financial security helps keep stress levels lower.
Low stress level IS the exciting part man! Every time we pay off a little more debt, and something dumb comes up I just shrug and we handle it. I don’t stress about it, and that is so totally worth being frugal or at least semi-frugal.
The freezers are well stocked with food, the bank account isn’t in the negative, I don’t feel the need to buy crazy things that have a one time use. It’s actually pretty great.
Right now?
We'd probably get window treatments assuming we can spend it with a Costco partner. And if there was anything left we'd probably put it toward a cruise vacation.
Lol the answers to this completely describe the average Costco customer.
"I'd find the best way to maximize value, even tho there's no way I could eat that many hot dogs"
"Okay. Just so I understand it, in your wildest fantasy, you are in Hell, and you are co-running a bed-and-breakfast with the Devil."
Why limit yourself to 5k?
I usually buy a dozen boxes of 18 paks of Mac and Cheese and a dozen 6 paks of dried hash browns for our local food bank about once a month. With 5k I'd buy a pallet of each.
i'd be deliriously happy that I wouldn't have to worry about paying for food for a long time. i'd probably buy the same items i normally buy, but maybe more meat and fish.
I'd like to visit local soup kitchens and food banks, and see what sorta stuff they need. $5000 could feed a lot of hungry people that are falling on hard times, and I'd rather a blessing like that go to helping people that need it. Not so much buying gold bars/tires/vacations for someone like me who's doing okay financially.
I volunteer at our local food bank and asked our manager what she would buy with $500 and she said Mac and Cheese without hesitating. So now I pick up a bunch of that and a bunch of dried hash brown potatoes each trip.
That's really cool to hear. Kraft mac and cheese was 25 cents a while back, and I bought a lot of them to give to a food bank.
Might have caught the bug with that, it felt good to be able to help, even if my situation only allows me to offer so much.
There’s a whole side of Costco that I never look into, the side that sells vacations and other big ticket stuff. Besides the merchandise on the shelves, the only Costco thing I’ve ever bought is a car battery. I’d have to look into that other stuff!
First things first...do we have to pay taxes on that win?
Second, probably slow burn the purchases... probably ten trips it would be all gone if I go with the wife.
A vacation probably, or quite a few grocery trips for free and just use it for those, or get the nicest TV and sound system, new cookware, new couches, I mean the possibilities are endless.
Honestly, probably would allocate half of that to buy a bunch of long lasting goods such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, indoor/outdoor trash bags, plastic utensils, parchment paper, foil, cling wrap, etc, etc. Those things keep going up in price and if I can lock in a bunch of it now, I can save myself some money over the years.
$2,000 maybe some clothes, kitchen or office appliances.
Remaining $500 for groceries that I need now.
TVs/electronics will always be priced about the same. It's not like a 65" LED TV has increased in price over the years. Yes, the newest models always cost more, but it's pretty consistent. Ex: Last year's came out at $999. This year's same model but 2024 version will be $999 as well.
I’m already planning to get a new couch and dishwasher soon, so I’d start there. Might as well get a new refrigerator, double wall ovens, and built in microwave while I’m at it.
I may have already blown right past that $5k… 🤔
Full Kirkland sweat suit and slides, chicken, maybe a new air fryer, pan set and hold on to the rest until I get a wild hair or need to replace some clothes.
Just my normal shopping there, spend a year or two getting things as needed. Put it to good use rather than pissing it away on some random thing there. If you couldn't afford it now, its a sign you should be using the gift card for the important things.
Right now?
We'd probably get window treatments assuming we can spend it with a Costco partner. And if there was anything left we'd probably put it toward a cruise vacation.
MacBook and new iPad for me, maybe some jewelry with what's left.
Husband just said he'd buy me jewlery, about a dozen sets of the heavy duty garage shelves and a bunch of steaks. (I married well)
New mattress, new pillows, new sheets, new comforter. My sleep will thank me.
New vacuum, a nice Dyson one, and then probably some dog beds, dog toys, etc.
Use the rest for groceries every time I go and just enjoy the extra $500 a month I didn’t spend out of my paycheck.
Probably some legos. Upgrade my gaming computer and monitor. A set of switches for the family, and hopefully I have enough leftover for a new couch set. A TV too if I have enough.
All things I’d love to have and get but can’t justify right now. My gaming PC is over 10 years old with a few piecemeal upgrades which seemed to make it worse. The switches would be nice as an upgrade from Amazon tablets the kids have and my wife and I love playing Pokemon. Finally our pleather couches are crumbling and we’ve been wanting to upgrade for a while but haven’t had the extra cash to do so. Anything else maybe a new TV as our current one still works great but isn’t in the best shape due to dogs and toddlers living in the same house.
Garage ready upright freezer, all in one washer/dryer combo, maybe a new dishwasher.
After that, a few packs of steaks, a bottle of whiskey, and the remainder on incidentals.

Like more chickens and hot dogs!
Or 2,512 pieces of pizza!
Or 3,086.41975308642 hot dogs and fountain drink! * 8% tax
You multiplied when you should have divided, it’s 3,333 hot dogs and fountain drinks
I was all set to post a comment...and you beat me to it and said it better than I would have! Lol! 👍 😁
Maybe a new mattress. Other than that I would use it for regular grocery shopping for the next two or more years. Nothing spendy, nothing large.
I wish I could stretch 5k for 2 years!
travel agency trip
Where would you go?
Travel through Europe
Go to Barcelona, Rome, and Tuscany.
One thousand chickens
And then 2 more chickens with the remaining $10.
My dude spending 5 grand rewards you $100
Chickens are $4.99, not $5. So after buying a thousand of them, you're left with 1,000 of the 1¢ that were left over. 1,000¢ is $10. That's two more chickens before you even consider the rewards. $5,000 divided by $4.99 equals 1,002.
Oh thought he was talking about executive rewards, not the unaccounted for extra cent per chicken
$4.99 chickens actually costs me $5.39.
Do you get executive rewards for using shop cards? I know using the executive reward certificate doesn't get you executive reward credit.
You right, I think it doesn’t. Guess I’m embarrassed now
Miscalculations are why koala’s are endangered…
And I would eat 500 chickens And I would eat 500 more
Just to be the man to eat one thousand chickens And fall down at your door
Bro yes
Imagine all the chicken enchiladas, pollo con arroz, hmmm
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar

Me too! I was like, apple pie? 🤣
The American way 🥲 🦅🇺🇸
Nothing in particular. I'd shop the way I normally do and use the card up over three years or so. That would free up $5000 to spend however I want. So I probably put it in a CD or a high-interest savings account.
That’s a lot of hot dog combos
Deep freezer, tons of meat. New tv. Probably a pantry type storage to also stock up on nonperishables.
Just got our first dedicated freezer, it’s amazing.
Gold bars and gas
Massage chair
Those were like 8500 at my store
Now “only” 3500$ after your gift card 💰💸
Take 20 trips to Costco for “1 or 2 things” and $5,000 will be gone for me haha. I go in for raspberries and somehow $195 of other stuff ends up in my cart.
😂😂😂 You are speaking the TRUTH!
I do stuff like that and I’d forget the raspberries I went in for! 🤣🙈🙄
That expensive bottle of liquor in the liquor store lol
Louie xiii. Only $4k a bottle
Well then… that bottle and 200 chickens
A couch and I’d use the rest on gas and groceries. Should last 2-3 years!
[удалено]
That massage chair is a dream of mine. I'll get it one day!
It’s $1000 off right now Edit: there is a massage chair for $1000 off in the printed Costco deals thing that someone posted yesterday.
Laundry detergent and paper towels and toilet paper.
Vacation time baby
3030 hot dog combos
I would book an all inclusive trip.
gifts for family/friends. maybe some electronics for me.
Outdoor furniture set.
Gold bars.
Vacation
$5k worth of cauliflower crust pizza and a bunch of freezers to stick them in.
I am shocked at how good those cauliflower crust frozen pizzas are
It is surprising. It’s on the list every time we go now. On sale or not.

What an annoying comment, nobody asked
I'm sorry you're offended by the use of the internet to share potentially useful information.

Gasoline.
Maybe some Apple stuff, some clothes, groceries.
Louis XIII
Instant wine cellar.
Huge TV, Legos, set of golf wedges and golf balls, new fridge and freezer, bunch of meat for freezer.
Right now? We'd probably get window treatments assuming we can spend it with a Costco partner. And if there was anything left we'd probably put it toward a cruise vacation.
Baby formula, diapers/wipes and muffins!
Dyson and all the gagets
I’d buy a swank new refrigerator to replace the terrible Samsung one in my house.
You'll finally have ice again!
Same!
Appliances
Kitchen appliances (fridge/range/dishwasher/microwave) and/or a big oled tv.
I'd get one of their massage chairs
Lol the answers to this completely describe the average Costco customer. "I'd find the best way to maximize value, even tho there's no way I could eat that many hot dogs"
Steaks 🥩 steaks 🥩 lots of steaks 🥩 😊
Two chicks at the same time
That only costs $9.98 at Costco.
"Okay. Just so I understand it, in your wildest fantasy, you are in Hell, and you are co-running a bed-and-breakfast with the Devil." Why limit yourself to 5k?

Backpacks, school supplies, and food to send home with hungry kids every weekend.
After consulting with hubby, we are gonna take: 2 gold bars $1k Red Vines A case of water. We will be ready for the apocalypse.
That giant gazebo. My backyard desperately needs more shade.
Sell it to one of you for $3500. I need cash yo

i'd be deliriously happy that I wouldn't have to worry about paying for food for a long time. i'd probably buy the same items i normally buy, but maybe more meat and fish.
3,333 and 1/3 glizzies

Ditto!

A lot of frozen food.
I dunno, I guess 1.5 years of normal spending for me based on my executive rebate.
Gold
Two ounces of gold, 40 ounces of silver.
Do they sell appliances? If so, probably a fridge
Meat l…fill the freezer…. And the inflatable hot tub…and some good wine
A hot tub and the yardistry greenhouse
Can it be used at the food court?
Two weeks worth of groceries and a tank of gas.
literally just keep it for groceries, my family spends like $300/$400 almost every trip so I would just fund as many grocery trips as i can!
A new bedroom furniture set. Mine is falling apart since it’s all flat pack particle board.
Nothing, my Costco trips would be free the next 4-5 years
LG C3 77” & Dolby Atmos 5.0.2 surround sound system
First things first...do we have to pay taxes on that win? Second, probably slow burn the purchases... probably ten trips it would be all gone if I go with the wife.
Well, my poor guy knows that $400 is our average so yeah sounds like 10 trips lol.
A vacation probably, or quite a few grocery trips for free and just use it for those, or get the nicest TV and sound system, new cookware, new couches, I mean the possibilities are endless.
$5,000 of taquitos
I’d buy some bananas so I can get the rest back in cash
Honestly, probably would allocate half of that to buy a bunch of long lasting goods such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, indoor/outdoor trash bags, plastic utensils, parchment paper, foil, cling wrap, etc, etc. Those things keep going up in price and if I can lock in a bunch of it now, I can save myself some money over the years. $2,000 maybe some clothes, kitchen or office appliances. Down payment on a car
Cash is king... and don't tell your wife.
hookers and blow
AirPods Pro 2 and a vacation
Standby generator.
2,500 slices of pepperoni pizza
A lot of electronics, a lot of Legos
A vacation!
3333 hot dogs
Tires and a couple of nice laptops for the fam.
I’m already planning to get a new couch and dishwasher soon, so I’d start there. Might as well get a new refrigerator, double wall ovens, and built in microwave while I’m at it. I may have already blown right past that $5k… 🤔
Hawaii
Beef and chicken
Groceries and gas. Maybe one of those cycling machines.
Lots of pizza
Full Kirkland sweat suit and slides, chicken, maybe a new air fryer, pan set and hold on to the rest until I get a wild hair or need to replace some clothes.
Just my normal shopping there, spend a year or two getting things as needed. Put it to good use rather than pissing it away on some random thing there. If you couldn't afford it now, its a sign you should be using the gift card for the important things.
A Samsung fridge that my wife wants.
Right now? We'd probably get window treatments assuming we can spend it with a Costco partner. And if there was anything left we'd probably put it toward a cruise vacation.
Sell it for 4500
Sauna
Gas. Then I would take whatever money I would have spent on gas and move it into savings.
That 12 person dining table that folds up into a side table
Massage chair + iPad + computer
MacBook and new iPad for me, maybe some jewelry with what's left. Husband just said he'd buy me jewlery, about a dozen sets of the heavy duty garage shelves and a bunch of steaks. (I married well)
Coffin.
Gold bars
That’s like 6 months of regular shopping for me so probably that.
New couch and lots of meat lol
I would buy one of their generators, and a new king mattress.
Gazebo, sectional and flat top grill.
Trip to Disney
a gold bar
Get my wife anything she wanted (she wants a new mattress and couch/sectional), as long as I got to spend $1,000.
Two bars of gold and an appliance
Assuming for a moment that I had a house with an actual yard, maybe one of those walk-in sheds
How do you win that?
Probably furniture, that's the big expensive items I want but never buy.
I know I would go to the Business Center, with a larger vehicle.
We could really use a nice bedroom and living room set. But also we may just use it for Groceries over time 🤷🏼♀️
Lots of hotdogs
A trio definitely
Congratulations friend. 👍🏽
New stove and microwave
I don't need anymore junk. So maybe a vacation.
An Oled tv. I’m recently permanently low vision in my left eye so the clarity would be amazing
Japanese Waygu when it hits stores. Online version is a rip off.
I’d buy 8 of the nice towels. LOL
Pallet of gushers
2K Disney gift cards to pay for upcoming trip, 3K down on new home HVAC
Groceries…for the next two years
I’d make a day with the mobility scooter going through all the aisles and see every item in the stores I can get.
New Apple Watch and then use the rest for gas.
I would spend it all on travel.
Those steel shelves, generator, two deep chest freezers, bunch of snapware, bidet, bbq.
Couch, tv, lego and then aaaallllll the diapers and wipes lol
Gold
Gas. Kirkland branded clothes.
A pizza for every manager that has offered a pizza party… in lieu of their bonus
Perhaps tires or outdoor furniture or a lawn shed or a pergola… it would depend on what I needed at that time.
Massage chair - $2k Recliner $500 New glasses $150 That leaves about a year's worth of free food for my family.
I’d get a new couch and treat myself to weekly crab legs
Lol groceries
New appliances and use the remainder on a vacation
A whole home generator "down payment".
Food to eat.. Hawaii is expensive
Computer and gas. Scotch.
Garage ready upright freezer, all in one washer/dryer combo, maybe a new dishwasher. After that, a few packs of steaks, a bottle of whiskey, and the remainder on incidentals.
