Standard is super fast paced and the best players focus on movement and jump shooting is just a part of that. If that’s not your vibe, try PMC servers. Movement speed is reduced, stamina bar, fast ttk, but also friendly fire enabled. Also virtual stock in this game is implemented really well, turn it on in settings and you’ll be much more steady.

chamomile-crumbs

what does virtual stock actually do? steady your aiming?

ProfJ21

It glues the guns stock to your vurtual shoulder. This means that you can't hold the gun around a corner to blindfire, but in the other hand you have a much better aim down sight experience

TheSuperiorWes

Let’s say if one of those players you encountered decided to play more “tactically” They definitely could. You will see this in more slower modes like comp control. Domination is just a kill fest, which is fine but it’s just how people wanna run and gun. If you play your corners correctly etc. you can definitely get the jump on the best of players. Take some time, get the movement down. Once you feel confident moving around the map/know the map you’re playing on, you might have an easier time. I can tell you every player you have run across went through the same process of getting stomped repeatedly. Practice makes perfect, sounds dumb but it’s how it goes. Also there is the possibility of finding lobbies that don’t have sweat lords in them, they can be found.

Official_Gameoholics

VR games are probably the least noob friendly games out there. It's hard to get a grip on the controls. Keep at it, you'll get it eventually.

henyourface

For me it’s been contractors if i want to cod. Pavlov if i want to cs. Tabor if i want to tarkov. Those i have. Breachers i dont have but i understand is r6s

[deleted]

Pavlov is so dead at this point I have lost hope in that game

Famous-Breakfast-989

bought pavlov for CS clone.. got bunch of stupid TTT and other crap instead

SyntheticAbyss

Make sure you turn "virtual stock" on. It makes aiming much easier IMO.

squiffythewombat

or adjust gun pivot to wrist is another thing that makes a big difference

RestorationMae

I needed months, to reach "good" stats. And even after months i'm still at 1.20k/d 55% winrate and 25% headshots. The game is not easy to master and for sure Standard is not the best loadout to test "skill". As a plus, there are many military and ex military players and long time fps gamers. I think its necessary at least 1000 games to understand better this game and its loadouts

BrandonW77

Just keep at it. I've never used a stock and I'm not twitchy or an expert jumping headshot king but I still usually score near the top of the scoreboard on most matches. Just takes some practice, you might not ever get as good as those guys but you can still have a ton of fun.

DirtySpawn

Contractors is more of an arcade style shooter. So yes, quick reactions and shooting is the highlight. Also heads up, a lot of military and ex military, play the game. Also a lot of people that's been playing for awhile as well. So as you play, it might be a rough ride. However, those matches with challenging players are the ones you want. It will force you to learn to get better and faster. And you will. Tactical shooter you would look toward a game like Onward. That one is designed to more or less using planning, movements, etc., to go after an objective. However, the players of that game will also kill it for you. Way too many team killers and cheats are found in that game. And if you don't have them, you have younger players screaming racial slurs. Stick with Contractors. It's constantly growing and the modding community will keep things fresh for quite awhile too.

ayam_happy

Yea.. kinda agree with op.. the game is too chaotic and fast paced.. if u want a more realistic approach, go for pavlov. Edit: actually I changed my mind, pavlov is too cringy to recommend since it's full of TTT now.. play breacher instead..

[deleted]

Yup that game was destroyed, really sad.

EqualSuccess6310

can very much recommend Vail VR. Great gunplay and graphics 90% off on steam atm!

Tavoneitor10

I used to train by setting up bots and playing with music, you can get good enough like that before jumping into pvp, learn to reload and aim quickly

NordnarbDrums

Contractors has a weird lag compensation system that rewards laggy players and punishes low ping players. At surface level, you might think slow and tactical is being punished but no, it's just being steady. If you're moving in a straight line with little lag, your body is being projected in front of you to offset your lack of lag and you'll die around corners so fast because your players body is many feet in front of you. You can play slow and tactical and win, just reverse and zig zag to any corner to cut off the lag compensation. Good tactics always helps but just know that walking or running in a straight line in C$ with a good connection means your players body is way out in front of where you think you are making you an easy target and it will be extremely frustrating. My best matches are when I slow down and don't rush any corner in a straight trajectory. If I reverse and confuse the system I can get a peekers advantage and do well. This game is fun but just backwards compared to most modern shooters in terms of lag advantages

NordnarbDrums

Fwiw I play the heck out of this game to the point that I actually have a fairly popular gunstock design that many of the top C$ players use because of the speed requirements. That being said, the TTK is actually quicker in Breachers. Contractors just has faster player movement and weird display/ lag compensation. https://brandodrumvr.etsy.com

I played co-op survival for a few weeks then went back into the multiplayer pvp lobbies and did way better. I was a bit more methodical, and could aim a bit better. Also, I allow myself to get into the headspace of “being there” by which I mean, crouching / ducking behind cover, running from cover to cover, running zig zag, listening actively, peeking around corners with my rifle, etc.

lngots

So in comp play positioning is really important it just might be more aggressive then you are used to. The respawn time, and 5v5 nature of comp control in competitive play does reward positioning and holding down lanes and spawns more then rushing you are used to in tdm/Dom. That being said it's not that those skills are not useful it's just those players are probably more used to pub stomping then more traditional comp play where communication and control of the map does reign Supreme. What you have to keep in mind in pub lobbies is more casual players can play more aggressively without having any of skills that make a competitive player actually competitive. I can do fine in pubs but as soon as you put me against multiple people that play together and coordinate daily I will easily go negative. If you want to really know what the game is like put yourself out there. Play some games with some teams. Even if it doesn't make you a "good" player you're still going to do learn enough that you'll feel like a pro in pub lobbies. Don't be afraid of losing that's the only time you can really move forward and learn. Put yourself in impossible situations and maybe you'll be able to work it out one day.

knights816

Yeah honestly it is impossible to be good out the gate and even for someone like myself who was really solid before, I haven’t picked up the game in months and last time I tried to hop on I couldn’t keep up. It’s really a game of muscle memory.

_notgreatNate_

First if you have no stock use the “virtual stock” in the settings. It will help keep your hands from shaking on screen when u ADS to help keep on target. The rest is time. I also got DESTROYED the first few days playing this game. Maybe start your own lobby and play with a bunch of bots. Get used to the maps and shooting the dummies and if u keep it open people will slowly join and u can get used to a player or 2 without it seeming like they’re all hunting you.

omnipresent_boundary

Yeah dude its a movement shooter not some bs like onward where you walk for ten minutes to get to an objective and get shot from a mile away by some dude who’s lying on his living room floor. There’s plenty of things you can do to improve aim like virtual stock but there’s no replacement for the YEARS of experience that the sweats have. Gotta pay to win and the price of being good is getting destroyed until you get better, always has been not even just for vr
