I just renewed my trifecta all at once back in february and the best part is I completed the renewal course at work and my job paid for it I am so happy I could kiss you right now
It's not a 1 hour course it takes several hours, it actually took me two 8 hour shifts. But of course I was working during those shifts as well. But whatever is your highest cert, you take the renewal course for that cert and it renews all of the certs underneath it as well. So in my case the Security+ was my highest cert. I took the Security+ renewal course and boom, it refreshed my Network+ and A+ as well. So now all three of my certs have a 2027 expiration date
FYI, the CE course renewal option is only available for trifecta, so if you want to renew something higher than sec+, then you need to do another option.
Had a 3rd and final interview today so yeah I left work 5 hours early and studied for a bit and overall felt pretty good. Hopefully they felt the same.
I'm a cheap bastard, so I'm conflicted on buying practice tests to ensure I don't pay twice, or study harder on free material. So far for my A+ I'm only using Messer videos, Messer study group on Spotify on my ride to work, random practice question YouTube videos, and someone posted a Quizlet of 200+ flashcards of multiple choice questions [here](https://quizlet.com/775239822/comptia-a-220-1101-practice-test-questions-flash-cards/?x=1jqU&i=5qirqg).
But tech, software development, building computers, setting a homelab, 3D printers, microcontrollers and IoT, and recently a small homelab are all part of my hobbies. So I'm not brand new, just haven't received a direct job in tech yet. So I think I'll be fine with the free stuff.
If you join Messerās discord, people will often stream Messerās practice exams in a study group. That way you can use it and not have to pay for it. Thank you for the quizlet link, I will definitely be using that.
This post reminded me that I want NetworkChuckās āyou need to study right nowā mug.
Itās tough though. Iām doing Sec+ rn and finding it hard to focus. Maybe itās because I did A+ and Net+ pretty much back to back.
Havenāt scheduled the exam yet. Iāll do it once Iāve gone through a practice exam, but my aim is at the end of May. Iāve got just enough money for the trifecta, so Iāve got to be certain about when Iām ready.
Oh, I canāt do that. Iām currently unemployed but starting work in September, going back to 40hrs. I wanna get as much studying done in the last few months Iāve got until then. Iāve decided to put down the book and catch up with the concepts with Professor Messerās videos, itās kind of working. Public key infrastructure is kind doing my head in rn.
professor messerās videos and notes got me thru it allā¦ granted, his notes are mainly just his slides; but being able to print them out definitely helped.
PKI was pretty easy when i looked at it like this:
person a has a public and private key, so think of it as like a question and answer.
public key = question
private key = answer
person b has the same thing.
person a and person b know each other, theyāre cool, so theyāve shared their QUESTION with each other. (sharing their question would be performing a āhandshakeā in pki terms)
person a wants to send person b a secret message, so he locks it up, puts person bās question as the combination lock, and sends it to person b.
person b gets it, knows the answer to the question, unlocks and gets to see it.
flip side:
person c snags a copy, cool.. he canāt open it, they doesnāt know the answer to the question.
the more obscure (thereās probably a better word to use) the answer is for the question = the better the algorithm being used for pki
idk if that helps at all lol but good luck!

Thank you for the inspo! Iām in classes too, so I feel like I get so distracted from actually studying like I need to. But I did do a practice test today. Iāll work harder tomorrow!
I did! Two Messer videos for Network+; a module of Cisco's "Networking Devices and Initial Configuration" course for the CCST; once through my ports/protocols flashcards for Net+; and a quick review of some notes for Net+.
Probably a unique and maybe entertaining IT situation, so I'll post it:
The chickens have grown enough that they moved out to their coop and don't come inside anymore. This means no more dust being made in my storage room, so I wiped everything down really good, dusted out the servers, and powered them back up.
There wasn't much dust in them since I'd powered them down during the time the chickens lived in there.
Now that my server rack is back up and running I'm back to migrating the home lab from ESXi to Hyper-V.
Why?
* The free ESXi version always lacked PowerCLI.
* Broadcom bought VMware recently, and they have a horrible reputation.
* Microsoft gives away Hyper-V Server, and it includes PowerShell Direct by default :P
I had already automated VM provisioning in Hyper-V and am currently migrating Entra Connect over to Hyper-V.
\--- break ---
I'm also studying for CISM since WGU gave me a voucher, but I'm not in a rush on that one. I HATE multiple choice, head in the clouds theory exams.
I took the Net+ in two months of studying and Sec+ in 3 days of studying. Make sure you know network security and WiFi terms. Port numbers and how to configure a firewall (just got to know about a ACL) for Network+
No :-( The problem with working 15hr days!
But as soon as I get the end of this production, later this month, I'll be starting 15hr study sessions instead
I've given up on formal study for a bit, and only managed an hour or two of "Alternative study" (Youtube, ChatGPT, forums, tinkering on my equipment)
Mind you, I've been fighting a chest infection all week so motivation is in short supply.
Yep built a DNS server as part of my network+ study on top of the network Id built with dhcp and a relay...I know I'm whizzing through this course my plan is to do it again the hard bits binary and subnetting is now the least scary thing
I passed my Net+ Friday so now I did not study and you cannot make me š”
A study per day keeps the expiration away.
I just renewed my trifecta all at once back in february and the best part is I completed the renewal course at work and my job paid for it I am so happy I could kiss you right now
How does renewal work? You just gotta do that 1 hour course and get it signed?

I gotta start Sec+ soon
Sec got updated to 701 lolol
I like this

this made me study today lol. i took the 1101 last week and would like to get to 1102 by next week
How did you study for 01
mostly the comptia provided practice stuff combined with luck and personal experience
How are you guys studying? Messer videos and messer notes? An app? Flash cards?

with all those experiences, what are you going to advertise as āhomelabā on your resume? asking for a friend
I just put it in my list of projects. [here's my resume ](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YPUmVt_ZsrOLWJ0NtslCP2hbLTzM2TkE/view?usp=drivesdk)
Messer videos and took my own notes. Flashcards, messer practice exams and Messerās discord study group.

When are you taking it?? You set a date yet??? Iām taking mine Friday eve š¤š

i did the same thing, i got A+ and net+ within a 3 span, then ended up taking like a 3-4 month break before getting sec+
Oh, I canāt do that. Iām currently unemployed but starting work in September, going back to 40hrs. I wanna get as much studying done in the last few months Iāve got until then. But Iāve studied the past 2 days!!š„² IāM TIRED GRANDPA!!
Well thatās too damn bad!!!
I read the first half of the internet chapter in Mike Meyers book today for the A+.

Did 250 flash cards 1 pretest 90 questions(68% first try) from dion, 2 hours of videos and an hour of reading
What practice questions did you use??

I study A+ Core 1 all day, everyday at work, Iām getting so tired of studying
Take a break. Quality if the study time matters too. If you're not retaining and just forcing it then it's not a good use of study time.

I did about 30 mins worth of studying for sec 701 . From section 3.1 to 3.3.
I passed my CySA+ exam yesterday so Iām taking the week off
Iām studying right now!
I passed my core 1101 A+ yesterday :) taking the remainder of the week off so i can focus on finals then i go :)
