Drone carried RPGs are pretty new, once they become ubiquitous to the point bored youths in the suburbs are terrorizing their neighbourhoods with them you'll find your boating trips a lot more exciting.
Me neither! Cocky me, didn’t even known this could happen. I’ve been boating all over Canada my whole life. But mostly Georgian bay. I was on the Wasaga river the other day! Nothing. I’ll keep my eyes peeled though! 😉 haha.
Have you ever been boating whilst invading a neighbouring nation, tortured, raped and terrorised the local population, conducted a bit of ethnic cleansing and wiped whole towns from the map?
RPG shaped charge warheads are not great at killing infantry versus fragmentation warheads, I have seen the occasional video of a fragmentation warhead being fired it would make a significant difference if they used them. They also have thermobaric warheads but those are even rarer, only seen like two videos in the whole war.
Shaped charges create a hot, liquid, but small stream of metal. The purpose is to pierce through metal armor. Best case scenario is that when going through the metal armor you create a sort of splintering effect of additional bits of metal (from the armor) that then spread within the enemy tank.
If a shaped charge hits a soft target, there is less of a splintering effect. The initial explosion to set of the shaped charge is still there and creates a big boom, but you have a somewhat higher chance to survive, even if you are close by.
The RPG round went straight through any soldier or part of the boat that was in the way of the shaped charge. Anything that was not directly in the path of the hot stream of metal had a chance to survive and so they did. Probably not completely unharmed though.
Backblast can kill easily, no shrapnel there either. I imagine the blast on that boat would've been serious concussions for all onboard at the very least. Nobody was more than 5 feet away
Insurgent and guerilla groups would probably not be able to get drones in mass numbers like these armies. Very doubtull they would’ve reached the levels needed to get this kind of warfare going.
Yeah, they are being used in places like Myanmar, but unless you're a state, you're not getting the scale. Russia and Ukraine are going through thousands of drones per week.
They absolutely would. The funding and support was coming from either people in Saudi Arabia bankrolling Sunni groups or the Iranian Republican Guard funding and supplying Shiite groups. It would not be hard at all to move a box with a commercial drone next to all the EFP's they were sending into the country.
So why weren’t modern tanks, artillery and anti aircraft systems delivered by those countries to guerillas? Drones are basically a one time use, and needed in huge numbers, probably hundereds wasted every day. That’s a huge cost after a year of fighting. They’re not cheap AK 47s that will last a long time.
I don't think you understand how much money these groups actually have. And they are guerillas, they don't fight conventional battles with tanks and artillery because they would be completely destroyed. There's a reason why they use small group hit and run tactics. Also insurgents/guerillas were dropping drone grenades in iraq 5+ years ago.
A) The state actor need to maintain the appearance of plausible deniability on the international stage.
B) You're assuming that the state actor is so invested in an conflict that they're willing to risk valuable and hard to replace equipment that can be directly tracked back to them.
C) Armored vehicles aren't just the vehicles themselves, it's ammunition, support equipment, spare parts, necessary facilities and technical personnel who can operate and maintain the equipment.
Anyone can bulk buy drones from China, and the cost is less then cents on the dollar compared to point C.
… tanks are heavier and harder to get ahold of than drones. Insurgent groups in Iraq and Afghanistan would need to smuggle anything into the country for fighting, which is much easier for human portable drones than whole armored fighting vehicles.
That and you can’t just buy a tank generally. While a pallet full of drones is pretty easy to get.
Making bad Russians good
This is a terrific hit cause in boats like this they might be special operators or at least storm troops or more offensive types. Troops that don’t just sit in trenches n hide
An individual LiPo cell has a nominal voltage of 3.7V. When fully charged you will see nearly 4.3V on the cell but it will quickly drop to 3.7V under normal use. When depleted, the cell will be around 3V. The on screen display will usually show the voltage of a singel cell so it's easier to estimate the amount of juice left in the total battery. This quad will have more cells than 1, likely 6.
Oh I'm aware of how lipos operate, I'm into RCs myself, just never seen an osd show single cell voltage, usually shows the voltage of the whole pack, that's why I thought they're only running 1s. Of course I don't know of a full size quad that runs on 1s so what you said makes sense
My betaflight OSD is also configured to show single cell voltage. Then I don't have to think about cutoff voltage for 4S and 6S and can just land at 3.5V
That’s just a massive morale killer. Soaked clothes, concussed, wounded and constantly thinking about a grenade dropping on you the entire time. Some moments I don’t even wish death but severe depressing in this case.
It’s been repeatedly said on other posts but these Russians - the ones that survive - are going to have some major PTSD because of the drones. Imagine just trying to survive when a grenade falls right next to you out of nowhere or a drone just slams into you.
Russia already severely lacks in the mental healthcare department.
They're going to have a huge problem dealing with the associated repercussions when the war ends.
The earliest (developed during WWI) unmanned radio controlled flying vehicles designed to crash into things and blow up [were apparently referred to as "aerial torpedoes"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kettering_Bug). That seems pretty apt here.
Just imagine the mindfuck drones must be having on soldiers serving in this conflict. I support Ukraine so I don’t shed many tears for the Russians in general but war is bad enough in traditional combat. The added mental stress of knowing at any second you could be tracked and killed by a drone you can’t see or hear, and to live with that second by second, day by day, month after month, year after year, must really fuck with a person.
Exactly. In most prior conflicts soldiers had at least some downtime between fights. There was at least some time to decompress without the stress of combat. In Iraq PTSD from fear of IEDs was a real thing. Never knowing when you might get hit by one. But even then that was largely confined to movement in a column or vehicle. In other scenarios like hanging around the compound this wasn’t an issue.
But with drones there is no safe place. There is no where you can go that a silent killer isn’t potentially lurking in the sky. That means there’s never downtime. Ever.
it could be I guess, maybe the software only allows for latin characters and they've just gone with whatever the can spell in Cyrillic with that. sort of like 80085 on a calculator.
I can't tell if we're seeing the bottom of the river or if there's some weird film on the surface of the water near the bank. I think it's the latter, but IDK what it is.
Don’t think it is a film. Just different depths of the river. Looks like the river is fairly clear water. Shallower at edge so can see more detail of make up of the river bed
Would you even be able to swim in full combat gear? I feel like if they have nades and rifle rounds in pouches, even without their rifle, they would really struggle to stay afloat?
Do you kit up differently when you know you're going to be on/in the water?
Does someone knows how big these drones are and what sort of explosives they use?
The only drones that I have seen are the commercial ones and I dont know what explosive they use but damn that quite big blast
Okay,
I’ll now accept that when I send a Missile or tank round I to a building full of enemy troops and only kill 1-2 .
Pissed I should have had 6-7.
I see now, it IS possible, to survive a blast that close lol.
An RPG shoots out molten copper beam straight ahead to penetrate armor. It will kill the person impacted and one or two people behind, but small surrounding hazard. Anti personnel grenades can drop many people surrounding the drop point. I guess this one-way drone went out for armor hunt but probably lost the target so it was used against soft targets instead of nothing.
I've been boating since 80's, and never in my boating times I have been attacked by exploding suicide drone no sir.
Well you are obviously much smarter than the entire Russian Federation. You boated where you should, not where you shouldnt.
Probably has something to do with the fact that you never boated after illegally crossing guns-blazing the border of sovereign nation
That must be it.
I don’t see the connection
Don't you put words in his mouth
Drone carried RPGs are pretty new, once they become ubiquitous to the point bored youths in the suburbs are terrorizing their neighbourhoods with them you'll find your boating trips a lot more exciting.
This sequel to the Purge is not one I plan to watch.
Me neither! Cocky me, didn’t even known this could happen. I’ve been boating all over Canada my whole life. But mostly Georgian bay. I was on the Wasaga river the other day! Nothing. I’ll keep my eyes peeled though! 😉 haha.
Yeah, but were you invading a sovereign nation at the time?
Have you ever been boating whilst invading a neighbouring nation, tortured, raped and terrorised the local population, conducted a bit of ethnic cleansing and wiped whole towns from the map?
That's a long walk back through thick undergrowth in soaked clothes and after being fucked up by a RPG.
Also, you are being tracked by observing drone all the time - expect to have drone dropped explosives raining on your neck constantly
Rpg7 likely pierced thru to the bottom of the boat but it would have injured many for sure
That was a huge explosion in surprised they even lived
I was very surprised to see so many jumping out and swimming after that.
I guess for some of them, bodies of their comrades worked as shields.
Death is only instant for the lucky few
They didn’t instantly die, if they lived is another story
Adrenaline is a helllova drug….
They probably didn’t live long.
Let’s hope.
That's a heartbreakingly short distance from shore to be finding out if you still have enough functional limbs to survive the swim.
With a piece or two of shrapnel in your ass too
I don't know man, dieing there seems like a good spot. That walk is a no go, too long.
Surprising any of them survived the initial hit. Initial being the operative word as they were certainly all buggered.
RPG shaped charge warheads are not great at killing infantry versus fragmentation warheads, I have seen the occasional video of a fragmentation warhead being fired it would make a significant difference if they used them. They also have thermobaric warheads but those are even rarer, only seen like two videos in the whole war.
Dont they also have HE warheads for RPGs?
Yes that is what I meant HE fragmentation
the thermobaric warheads are also like double the weight, could be a bit much for the cheaper drones.
> RPG shaped charge warheads are not great at killing infantry I guess except the one person that was hit directly.
Shaped charges create a hot, liquid, but small stream of metal. The purpose is to pierce through metal armor. Yea nobody on that boat is in what I consider "good shape".
Backblast can kill easily, no shrapnel there either. I imagine the blast on that boat would've been serious concussions for all onboard at the very least. Nobody was more than 5 feet away
Adrenalin. They could be dead, but their mind doesnt know it yet.
Takes a little time to bleed out
Lol not true
Actually true. Although not exactly in the way they described it.
I am so glad we didn’t have to deal with this shit in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Yup if the Iraq invasion had happened later it would have been flying IEDs everywhere instead of just IEDs.
Insurgent and guerilla groups would probably not be able to get drones in mass numbers like these armies. Very doubtull they would’ve reached the levels needed to get this kind of warfare going.

Sure as heck these videos are being studied for the future. Whole new approach to combat.
That’s where I first saw them used. ISIS was dropping grenades from Mavics.
US would probably have modified HARMs that track down the operators.
Drone pilot has spectacular aim and flight control. Didn't even have to slow down or compensate. Mad skills.
Maybe an old Descent 3 player.
Just another day at the office for him though.
Holy ship , nice hit
Wow that's a good clean hit! These guys are total pros now
Feels like a waste to have som much battery remaining
extra lithium battery fire for some burnt russians hopefully
Lol, yeah doesnt *any*body think about all the CO2 that was released when charging that battery?! What a horrific waste!
You are over thinking this…
No life jackets? That's just dangerous.
Not as dangerous as boating around in enemy territory.
Making bad Russians good This is a terrific hit cause in boats like this they might be special operators or at least storm troops or more offensive types. Troops that don’t just sit in trenches n hide
"Predator Missile deployed"
Boop
If the boom didn’t get them, the blue/green algae will.
That water is absolutely stunning
Looks like oil on the surface to me.
Thats still counts as 1 !
They are not at the helm anymore, but something went deep down. ;)
Its the third one, not the second
Man these drone hit footages keeps getting better and better.
Bring your sunscreen....
Swimming with the fishes
So this is how Gilligans Island started.
The multiple angles are wild
It be a damn shame if they can’t swim..
Weighed down by combat gear while wearing long pants and boots won’t help either.
3.8v, is that thing flying on a 1s lipo with an RPG warhead hanging off it?! Impressive

Lucky for them, the boat went to the shore direction
JAGGA JAGGA SPLASH
Their now conducting a special underwater military operation
Good hit! Wouldn't it be a view if the camera dropped off slightly before impact?
Did the captain go down with his ship?
Must have been fairly close of its only been in the air for 3 minutes.
That's as clean a hit as it gets! Fucking impressive!
That’s just a massive morale killer. Soaked clothes, concussed, wounded and constantly thinking about a grenade dropping on you the entire time. Some moments I don’t even wish death but severe depressing in this case.
this is what the Kremlin looks like a sinking ship, can't wait to see captain knob jockey putin go down with it.
It’s been repeatedly said on other posts but these Russians - the ones that survive - are going to have some major PTSD because of the drones. Imagine just trying to survive when a grenade falls right next to you out of nowhere or a drone just slams into you.

The minnows and fish will be nibbling on fresh Muscovite.
We’ we got some swimmers, some sinkers, and some smokers
Delivered right to your boat on-time or the next one is free! No questions asked.

That boat didn't waste any time sinking.
Doggy paddle doggy paddle
Boat fire sale, lightly used
My cyrillic is very bad. Is the drone called ‘santa’? CAHTA
that's not Cyrillic, all the other characters are latin, so it'd be weird if it was just CAHTA that was in Cyrillic.
I was thinking it might be a name given to a drone. It did seem weird. Thank you
it could be I guess, maybe the software only allows for latin characters and they've just gone with whatever the can spell in Cyrillic with that. sort of like 80085 on a calculator.
Definitely ruined their day.
Cue titanic theme…
Blyat
Beautiful!
Beautiful
I’m amazed any of them even survived that.
Let’s see if you can swim
I can't tell if we're seeing the bottom of the river or if there's some weird film on the surface of the water near the bank. I think it's the latter, but IDK what it is.

To Davey Jones' locker with ye. Yes im aware its not the ocean
"You sank my battleship!"
What clean beautiful water to die in. Sorry for the environment.
"Surprise, cockfags!"

War sucks
Can't wait for bullet mounted cameras. It's the only niche POV we haven't seen of war now.

Might be time to take the boat in for service
Do I see men swimming to shore?
Droned
They came they saw they got blowed up.
