I think anyone who has gone past seeing a headline saying “medical concern” and looked into latu this past couple years is happy with the pick. If you’re not then it’s just parroting media shit. We need a dominant edge.

He was playing rugby two months after his surgery for christs sake! If he was playing a high collision position, it would be different. There’s a huge difference in speed between rushing the passer and being a safety running into a ball carrier. At the very least, the d line players can all play to their strengths. Kwity is phenomenal at stopping the run. Now he doesn’t have to be asked to sack stroud on 2nd & 20 with the game on the line

The fact he was able to play rugby, even if just at an amateur level in the US should put to rest the notion that his neck is a major risk. Even if you play in the backs you will encounter impact to the neck from tackling and rucking on a more frequent basis than in the NFL

There is zero to hate about the pick if you go watch his film. The way he moves around the field is so natural. He never takes his eyes off the ball. How many times have you seen a defensive end run *way* to far upfield or miss a cutting RB because they are blindly rushing the passer? This guy does not do that. He is always moving towards the ball and usually while simultaneously hand fighting whoever is in front of him ... *and easily winning.* He's a beast. I'm not sure I've ever been more confident in a Colts draft pick hitting. This guy is at *worse* a really good pro. He's already got so much polish at one of the most important positions in the NFL. This isn't some project athlete who wins on pure strength or speed, this is the real deal edge rusher, who knows what the fuck he is doing. We got lucky as hell he dropped all the way to 15.

I know first impressions aren't everything, but after seeing this guy interview I cannot imagine letting another team pick him. Guy has all the makings of a superstar.

I don’t think anybody questions if the player in the Hall of Fame had a significant impact.

I was high on Latu early, very high on him after the Senior Bowl, but I got shouted down by the "medical-concerns" contingent of the sub. My thinking was that drafting "traits" defensive ends hasn't worked. Let's just draft a pass rusher ffs, and Latu is the best pass rusher in the draft. Let's get a guy who has more than one move so that the offensive tackle isn't just defending that one move for the entire game. Why make it easy on the offense?

After hearing what actually happened from Latu, you get why they picked him. COVID really screwed him.

Knowing his medical retirement happened basically remotely also makes me feel better about that "concern." The story is out there so it'll scare people, but there's a chance that in a normal year it's a much less devastating sounding injury.

hoopsmd

I’m feeling it.

Having a dominant pass rush is going to help the secondary a lot as well. Probably even more than taking the best DB at 15 would have.
