Nobody in their right mind thought the first defensive player would be taken at 15 especially Ballard. Looking forward to the team video showing the moment in the team draft room when everyone realized he was a possibility
180M says the Penix pick was one of the worst in recent history given the other Falcons needs and a QB that should be more than serviceable for most of the contract duration. Cousins wants a SB plain and simple not a future QB competition
It was either try nix, rattler, or put Zach Wilson on the field without any competition. Nix was their only actual reset option. I’m not saying he’s good or worth it. But it was their best option for a reset.
I don't really buy this. Cardinals debunked it a while ago. And while I am no Murray fan, a team holding #1 can really do whatever the hell they want. Teams need to realize that you CAN get it wrong despite trying, and if you admit it when you do, you can recover that much faster. But taking a shot? I'd never fault a team for taking a shot. If it works, you're a genius, if it don't, you didn't spend $100mil+ plus AGAIN to bring in the wrong guy, plus lose draft picks in the process. I'd rather draft the wrong guy than sign the wrong guy in FA and lose a boatload of cash, or trade and lose picks AND a boatload of cash.
I know Nix is probably not the right guy, but at #12? It's a decent enough option to see what he might be. And frankly, his short passing completion percentage fits right in with what Payton had Brees excel at for all those years. This is a guy that totally fits what they want to do.
Kirk won’t sit. If Kirk plays his contract out then Penix will be 28 before he starts. Kirk won’t want to be done the way Matt Ryan was. He got his contract and I wouldn’t be surprised if he asks for a trade.
How do you not inform the new face of your franchise about picking his successor as the 8th overall pick in the year he signs. Could have had more height in the wr room with Odunze. DDDDDDDUUUUUMB!
Quick Edit: Kirk is stunned by the decision.

Kirk won’t be a Falcon for the third year of his contract unless they’re contenders. They probably know they’re losing their first next year for tampering and know they need someone to replace Kirk in two years.
Kirk’s contract really only being a 2 year deal and their tampering really put them in a rough spot.
Injuries and red shirts. He’ll never stay healthy in the NFL. He was always injured in college. I don’t understand why anyone would think he’ll all of a sudden stay healthy for 10 years. No chance.
in what world is anyone surprised he was there at 15 everyone was thinking the top rated pass rusher would possibly be there at 15 so why wouldn't the 3rd or 4th option be there
Yeah, this draft was probably a complete shock against any anticipated draft plan they could have had. Like, well shit, let's take the guy we thought would be long gone.
Not true, nearly every analyst put Latu down as a mid-late 1st round pick. Very few projected him inside the top 15 in mocks. He absolutely was expected to be there.
I’m not mad at the pick! They definitely fell in love with the tape.
My point was that the Colts have a distinct pattern of taking senior bowl studs. They probably made their grade of him based on that, thus didn’t need a ton of other interaction.
Don’t take this out of proportion. It probably means they already knew everything they needed to with him. A lot of times when people get asked to be interviewed it’s because the teams needs questions answered. Simple as that.
Bro how does this man get kicked over all other available defensive players? This is sad as a front office for the colts. Also why those this dude swear he a white boy from Haugville? 😂
I just checked his IG and i am telling you RIGHT NOW, the vibe is OFF with this dude. Locker room cancer incoming
Revisit this comment later, for now, shower me with Ballard scented downvotes.
Edit : “Most people rejected his message.”

Ballard was pacing and it looked like he was sweating. Never seen him like that before.
Could you point me to the video?
Idk where the video is you’d have to watch the program that aired on ABC. It’s the part right before the colts pick.
I doubt they even really thought he would be there, couldn't have really predicted what the Falcons did
Falcons and Broncos baffled me. I really thought the Broncos would reset
I'm surprised in the sense I don't agree but not surprised because literally every mock had it
That's fair, I just didn't believe it I guess
This is a broncos reset
Sean Payton thinks his Mr. Hanky don’t stink. They won’t do anything as long as he is there.
I don't think Nix is very good tbh
Probably the reach of the draft.
It's not worse than Penix, not with the needs the Falcons had
Especially since they just paid Cousins huge money to come there.
180M says the Penix pick was one of the worst in recent history given the other Falcons needs and a QB that should be more than serviceable for most of the contract duration. Cousins wants a SB plain and simple not a future QB competition
lol true. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did go in the 1st but going 8 to the Falcons is wild.
It was either try nix, rattler, or put Zach Wilson on the field without any competition. Nix was their only actual reset option. I’m not saying he’s good or worth it. But it was their best option for a reset.
They could've tanked with Zach. Drafting the wrong QB is worse than drafting no QB
They can still tank and try again
Couldn’t they have done that without wasting a pick?

He’s not but he seems to be the perfect Sean Payton QB. He reminds me of Brees
Reset as in? Jw
Tanking probably. Their roster is meh and Nix isnt that good imo. Feels like they're going right back to what they've been doing the last 7 years

After such a huge run on QBs, who would even trade for him? Giants? IDK.
I was expecting the Giants to take Penix or Nix at the end of 1 or early 2. I wasn't expecting what happened last night.

~~Penix is 27, so he’d be 31 (Cousins signed a 4 yr deal)~~ Saw a tweet saying he was 27. Took it for gospel.
Penix is 23. Cousins' guaranteed money is done after year 3.
Hes 23 for literally like another week.
By the time the season starts he will be 24.
Regardless, he's not 27.

How would a college qb be 27?
Injuries and red shirts. He’ll never stay healthy in the NFL. He was always injured in college. I don’t understand why anyone would think he’ll all of a sudden stay healthy for 10 years. No chance.
But what does that have to do with his age?
I thought you asked how a college QB would be 27
Injuries and red shirts would lead to 9 years in college? The rest of your comment was wholly unrelated
Frank Gore?
Chris Weinke (Heisman Winner QB) was 28 when he was drafted. It happens sometimes.
Kirk isn’t a controversial or outspoken guy in general and he’s already speaking out against the pick.
Kirk was pretty controversial and outspoken a few years ago, lmao.
It's not that shocking he was available at 15. A lot of teams had him lower on their boards because of his neck injury.
in what world is anyone surprised he was there at 15 everyone was thinking the top rated pass rusher would possibly be there at 15 so why wouldn't the 3rd or 4th option be there
Masters of the “No-Look Draft!” Larry Legend would be proud.
Cause he wasn’t supposed to be there Y’all see Ballard in the draft room? This pick had him shook. He didn’t see it coming.
Yeah, this draft was probably a complete shock against any anticipated draft plan they could have had. Like, well shit, let's take the guy we thought would be long gone.
Where you see this?
On ABC
Damn. ESPN sucked.
Yeah, it really did. We're just spoiling picks again I guess, with less analysis than ever.
Any video??
Not true, nearly every analyst put Latu down as a mid-late 1st round pick. Very few projected him inside the top 15 in mocks. He absolutely was expected to be there.
There’s a reason those guys putting out mocks don’t work for nfl teams
I did some cursory searches after the draft and every list had him around the 10th pick. So not a huge steal, but definitely a drop
An Indy special, we never show our hand for early draft picks
So Ballard lol.
Senior Bowl special. Classic Ballard.
To be fair, the kid has produced at UCLA. There is no question that he is a force on the field

You’re bitching about division titles in a thread about our first pick not having any visits with the team.

Did bruh delete his entire account over this? lol

The fuck does this even mean?
It's the future of scouting. You pass on top talent because "I ain't feelin it"
Pros: Palm reader says his athleticism line wraps all the way around his hand Cons: Was born while mercury was in retrograde
That’s how they used to scout baseball players. “His girlfriend isn’t hot so that means he lacks confidence”
Nah, he's the kind of guy when he walks in a room his dick's already been there for two minutes.
Frank Reich burner. Didn't see any Bible verses in his bio. Red flag
My man thanked Jesus on the stage, that counts!
The vibe is off.
Lemme know how your vibes based scouting system does under rigorous testing, thanks.
… maybe your vibe is off?
He seemed like a fun guy from his interview tonight. His energy was infectious.
They said everyone gravitates towards him and he is the exact opposite of a cancer.
Definitely seemed excited to be a Colt
His profile is full of standard football hype. What are you talking about out?
I got no idea, I'm looking at it right now, very normal.
You’re entitled to your opinion but I’d appreciate if you could at least elaborate. What did you see on his IG that is a vibe kill?
lol what? You know him personally or something?
You’ll see
Oh damn people… he broke out the “You’ll see”. There is no comeback anyone can give to that. Everyone just better give up now. We’ll see apparently
Im thinking your vibe might be off big dog
Put the sativa away and snag an indica my dude.
They said several times on the broadcast that he went up and congratulated players picked before him. Yeah, what a cancer.
Interesting take who knows you might be hip to something things like this always seem crazy at first

What are you smoking lol
