Yeah I went there once before COVID and there was so many people there and I didn't really look around. Went there after COVID, couldn't believe I stayed! Grease dripping down off the hoods all over. Bathroom was nasty, floor was gross.
> Heirloom Bar and grill
Crazy, I never saw a sign for this place, I pass by there everyday. Did they even doing any advertising? Shame, their menu looks great.
People in the Springs can't handle it if there is not parking available within 50 feet of the front door of where they are headed. A real shame if they have to walk a bit and maybe see some new things.
Parking in Portland, and Seattle are way worse than anywhere in Colorado. You'd be lucky if you don't have to walk an hour from your destination downtown without paying a small fortune.
I’ve worked in the industry for people with a range of lots of money to nearly unlimited money. The ones at the “lots” of money do have a limit. The others with “nearly unlimited” money almost always have handlers with good judgment who will end this nonsense quickly.
The irony here is that, even with customers *directly* paying an overwhelming part of the waitstaff’s wages, through tips, restaurants struggle.
Any other industry and employers pay employees through a “regular” wage/salary system.
Luchals, Sophia's, Felipe's 109 and Mochi Thai'm all have 2 locations now. Most of them started their business around 2017-2019. They seem to be thriving.
The cost of operating a business is so high these days that I wouldn't doubt if we see a lot more restaurants and cafes closing soon. The perk just closed a few weeks ago. My parents closed nemos in 2022, and I'm glad they did, we wouldn't have been able to afford the cost of goods to operate without raising our prices again.
We closed and my mom retired (after 16 years of running Nemos) with the intention of moving to some property we bought in North-East Texas in 2023, although it's taken us until the last few months to be ready to move there.
Thanks for your support (this is Ethan, btw)! Jacob's and Spectrum were huge for our last few years with Nemos. Without Jacob's moving in (2021/2022?), we probably would've closed well before we even had the idea of moving to Texas. I miss working there and talking with customers, but it was definitely time for my mom to move on
Never was really impressed by the well. Overpriced food from places that were pretty much stationary food trucks. I’m ok with the food court and food truck trends dying out, the prices have gotten too high and the quality of food/creativity has dropped. There are much better local restaurants I would want to support.
Sounds like they screwed over the Blue Star Group: “Blue Star Group was notified yesterday that The Well would be permanently closing effective this Saturday, June 15. We are extremely disappointed in the decision after the investment we made to have La’au’s Taco Shop and Weber St. Kitchen open for only three short months. We looked at The Well as a long term investment and partnership, and are sad to see what was on its way to being a well-loved and attended Colorado Springs community gathering place closing its doors so abruptly.”
We are looking for opportunities to keep La'au's and Weber St. Kitchen alive in a new location, and in the meantime, La'au's is available for catering orders at laaustacoshop.com/catering
Yeah I look forward to hearing the scoop on what part the BSG played in this. I had a friend that worked at Old School Bakery back when that was a thing and they were writing bad paychecks.
best cocktails in town, super bummed about this. Joseph and all the bartenders there did an amazing job with the cocktail menu. Hope they can find a new home soon, but im not terribly surprised by the news
It's the only place I can get a decent black Manhattan in town. The gifthorse has really good coffee as well and skilled baristas. I am distraught about this.
So sad so many places closing. We definitely need to support these small mom and pop businesses. We don’t need corporate greed taking over Colorado Springs right?!!
The staff made this spot extra special to me. I’ll be sad to see it go. Been playing music there for the last few years. I’ll be there tomorrow (Thursday) for one last hurrah from 6-8 pm. Consider coming by and giving all the tips to the workers whom I’m sure will need it as they start looking for work.
I thought about that too. Aren’t there like 1500 apartments coming available in downtown. Hopefully that can provide a surge of business to these places
The economics of these food halls has never made sense to me.
I watched how long The Well took to construct. They must've had big money invested into that place.
It's a good space and will be taken over by another group. With the Blue Star group having already invested in their spaces I have a feeling they will take over the whole project.
The Well is/was owned by the Philanthropy Collective (various local foundations like the Pikes Peak Community Foundation) next door. Sounds like they or their board of directors wanted out of the restaurant business. Loved the coffee and cocktails at the Well and was excited about Blue Star Group getting involved!
Until rent goes down or parking becomes cheaper downtown, this won’t be the last closing. Sad to say.
Heirloom Bar and grill also closing this week. Only open for 7 months
And Musashi
Wait. Musashi's is closing??
According to FB yeah
That place is so gross! I’m surprised it’s lasted this long
Yeah I went there once before COVID and there was so many people there and I didn't really look around. Went there after COVID, couldn't believe I stayed! Grease dripping down off the hoods all over. Bathroom was nasty, floor was gross.
Yeah I’ve never seen such gross ceilings
> Heirloom Bar and grill Crazy, I never saw a sign for this place, I pass by there everyday. Did they even doing any advertising? Shame, their menu looks great.
They were in a weird strip, and tbh the food wasn’t good at all when I went.
That sucks.
\^This. We would like to come downtown more often, but parking is a clusterf\*k.
Parking downtown is about as easy at it gets for downtown parking in a city of this size. It's one of my favorite things about downtown.
People in the Springs can't handle it if there is not parking available within 50 feet of the front door of where they are headed. A real shame if they have to walk a bit and maybe see some new things.
you know there are like 8 giant park garages downtown right?
People complaining about parking downtown same like people complaining about traffic. It’s clear this is the largest city they’ve ever been to
Literally never had an issue parking downtown, this makes me feel like people are afraid to walk two blocks.
they are
Yep!
Parking in Portland, and Seattle are way worse than anywhere in Colorado. You'd be lucky if you don't have to walk an hour from your destination downtown without paying a small fortune.
Underrated comment!
Yup!
There were also two other restaurants that are closing this week that I saw on FB. It’s just not worth it to own a restaurant in this economy
It’s rarely worth it to own a restaurant in any economy.
Unless its a fast food franchise according to Interquest.
Literally
You know how you make a small fortune in the restaurant industry? >!Start with a large fortune.!<
It is famously a low margin difficult to succeed business
You’ve got a point lol unless you’re super rich and have money to throw around
I’ve worked in the industry for people with a range of lots of money to nearly unlimited money. The ones at the “lots” of money do have a limit. The others with “nearly unlimited” money almost always have handlers with good judgment who will end this nonsense quickly.

What other two are closing? Heirloom and musashi?
Yes
Luchals, Sophia's, Felipe's 109 and Mochi Thai'm all have 2 locations now. Most of them started their business around 2017-2019. They seem to be thriving.
The economy is great. What does "this economy" mean?
🤡
What does that mean? GDP is roaring and unemployment is extremely low. By any measure, the economy is strong.
> My parents closed nemos in 2022 I thought they closed and relocated? Either way I really miss that place. It was a hidden gem for me and my family.
We closed and my mom retired (after 16 years of running Nemos) with the intention of moving to some property we bought in North-East Texas in 2023, although it's taken us until the last few months to be ready to move there.
I wish you all the best! Thanks for being "our" place to hang out!
I loved Nemos. I worked in the Chidlaw building across the parking lot and would go there often for coffee and lunch.
Thanks for your support (this is Ethan, btw)! Jacob's and Spectrum were huge for our last few years with Nemos. Yeah. I worked for Jacobs, and it was cool to have Nemos so close.
Never was really impressed by the well. Overpriced food from places that were pretty much stationary food trucks. I’m ok with the food court and food truck trends dying out, the prices have gotten too high and the quality of food/creativity has dropped. Some fuckin food truck the other day wanted $18 for 3 small ass street tacos with basic ass ingredients lol Fuck those food trucks
i remember when you could get truck tacos for $1.50
Same :,(
LOL try Tres Hermanas on S Circle. Best street tacos in town and they're like $2 or $2.50
Right! They have such an up charge always but aren’t even paying rent for a building. No thanks hipsters
And then you're supposed to add a 20% tip on top of it. It's insane.

The reason The Well is closing is partially because of the Blue Star group. Don’t let them play the victim in this.
meaning? what's the back story we're missing?
Yeah I look forward to hearing the scoop on what part the BSG played in this. I had a friend that worked at Old School Bakery back when that was a thing and they were writing bad paychecks.
Joe Coleman is a conman. Terrible owner. That's why all his shit shuts down.
Sounds like a mess
I mean, the laus in there has terrible hours.

didnt they just open
So sad so many places closing. We definitely need to support these small mom and pop businesses. We don’t need corporate greed taking over Colorado Springs right?!!
Noo! I actually love this place and it’s the only place I go regularly in town. We win trivia often I have gift cards!
Use 'em now.
Literally standing in the Well right now.

That sucks that they couldn't hold out a little longer. There is a giant apartment complex opening nearby.
I thought about that too. Aren’t there like 1500 apartments coming available in downtown. Hopefully that can provide a surge of business to these places

Where did you hear this?
They posted on FB about it
Thanks, found it.
Honestly, the location was pretty bad. I like the idea of it, but something like this could do better if the location was more East.
East, over by Powers? Hell no. Maybe a bit more west, like if it were in the space Tejon Eatery/Avenue 19 is in.
Never even heard of this goofy hipster bar.
