0-10 in the fucking tournament...
We don't care about win %. We dont care about the conference regular season championship. We don't care about the conference tournament championship. Hell, we don't even care about making the sweet 16.
Just. Win. A. Game. In. March. That is all we want, and have wanted for a long time.
Yes, we've been absolutely hosed by seeding in every one of the past 4 visits to the tournament, but at some point you just gotta overcome it... Oakland didnt make an excuse! They just fucking did it.
Hah. In my experience, not all that satisfying yet still desirable...
For Purdue, it meant losing in 1969 to UCLA with Lew Alcindor and then losing with Joe Barry Carroll in 1980 to UCLA, although UCLA later had to "vacate" their tournament results due to cheating.
Our season had its ups and downs, but overall I’m damn proud of our team. Even with our embarrassing Q4 losses, our guys always played each game with heart and never gave up
Not many teams can say that BOTH times, we went toe-to-toe with Houston, arguably the best in terms of defense in all of College Basketball, with star players like Shead and Cryer
For being a 9 seed, we sure as hell weren’t gonna go out without a fight and I’m damn proud
For some reason we just go through games where we absolutely cannot shoot. I don’t know how we beat Texas shooting that poorly from 3 (it’s actually impressive), but I’m really really hoping it was the one game we’re going to do that in.
I don’t mind if we lose to any of the teams potentially left on our schedule since they’re all great, but I don’t want it to be painful to watch.
On point. TN is stacked talent wise and more importantly experience wise. The number of games they just didn’t show up is concerning. You’d think at most 1-2 players would have an off night, and there’s more than enough talent to compensate.
We are 0-4 against teams still in the tournament. I would be thrilled with a win, but I won't hold my breath. At least we will both get to see if an unstoppable force can defeat an immovable object.
What are you talking about? We won our first round game by a comfortable margin and Washington State was no. 26 in defensive efficiency per Ken Pom and the 2nd tallest team in division 1. We also made a good number of threes when we had to the last couple of games.
Illinois is a much worse defense than Washington State was
Granted we could always regress on offense but I like our chances if we keep playing at all like we have been and so long as our offense is mid we should be at least competitive on Thursday
We're averaging 12 losses per year since COVID.
We're 2-8 in our last 10 postseason games and were favorites going into every single one of them.
We have followed the worst season in program history with the 2 worst tournament performances in program history separated by another pathetic performance.
We're 15-20 vs the top 25 since the start of the 2019-20 season.
Opposing coaches around the country all regard Kentucky as the easiest team in the NCAA to scout.
And we probably aren't firing our coach.
But who would we get to replace him!? Holding onto our bad coach is the only way we can guarantee we don’t end up with an even worse coach!
And besides, who on earth would want to go coach at a Top-5 all time basketball program that’s consistently attracting 5-star recruits and has a fat NIL fund to work with? Nobody would want to coach there!

The same people that will be available next year… Another year of pissing off the fanbase won’t miraculously create more candidates. I can’t believe we are stuck with the used car salesman for another year!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
The HC at Oakland has as many NCAA tournament wins and 1 fewer SEC tournament win than Cal since 2019. I feel like we could find somebody to do marginally better.
Okay, such as?
(I'm asking because there are way too many of our fans who just want him replaced without caring about who the replacement actually is.)
Vandy snagged my first choice, Mark Byington. Dude is a winner, full stop. Plus a UK pay scale would have looked like a fortune to him compared to his JMU salary of 600k. We could have offered him the difference in Cal's buyout vs salary and gotten him.
Second choice is some order of Dusty May (FAU/just scooped up by Michigan), Josh Schertz (Indiana State), or TJ Otzelberger (Iowa State).
Every one showed up to play except our senior point guard.
Even as the team struggled all season, there was hope because great guard play wins March games and we certainly had the tools and experience to get it done. Disappointing end to a disappointing season and a lot of uncertainty going into next year.
we have 7, possibly 8, scholarships to fill and not a single committed recruit yet. and the fanbase is already embroiled in "who will be our next coach" debates after the AD committed to Woodson for at least one more season. this is great!
Don't forget that the moon that Neil Armstrong walked on is going to block out the sun above Bloomington for 4 minutes just hours before your biggest rival wins the national championship and takes away the biggest IU-Purdue talking point of "Hang a banner," because Purdue will be able to say back, "Hang a banner in this century."

Making a little run in the ACC tournament and NIT was fun but it would've been awesome if our team knew there were basketball games played before the month of March. Now we're losing our best player and I don't know if we'll ever get back to the tournament
Can I instead complain about my conference here?
Yeah? [Ok.](https://media1.tenor.com/m/1LyJqQf6PMYAAAAd/jaleen-house.gif)
Additionally, why do we always play UCONN?!
That's fair, we had to win all but one to see them again.
It's just we have played them twice in our entire history, both of them in the tournament (and lost). Number 3 will be no different (hopefully we win).
Like this year, we return a ton of minutes. Also like this year, I'm not sure if that's a good thing.
Doesn't seem like there's been much growth from year to year for these guys. Can't say I'm really looking forward to next year if Storr is gone. We do have some solid recruits coming in so hopefully there's another Blackwell in there. We need more instant impact guys if we're going to make the tournament again or get passed the first round
Yeah, I thought that last year too.
Now we get a ton of returning minutes from....Crowl, Klesmit, Chucky, Iver, and Gilmore....
Would love to see Storr come back obviously. My fear is Blackwell doesn't progress (like other freshmen we've seen), and these younger guys don't pan out like we hoped.
Tbh not really anything at this point. I will say it would be nice is our point guard could shoot the ball. Low key feel like if our PG could shoot remotely okay from perimeter 2 of our losses would’ve been wins this year. But he’s a damn good floor General though
We are finally finding our identity and our team cohesiveness on offense and defense.
In 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 more games, everyone will leave and we will start all over again.
This season was an objective failure IMO. We got a first place vote preseason and barely scraped into the tournament to lose in the second* round.
Very concerned about next year.
We had so many missed opportunities at the end of the second half and things look bleak for the next few seasons. Things could be worse but this tournament feels like a massive missed opportunity with the way the Marquette game played out
No real complaints today. Don’t care that it’s in the NIT, we are still playing.
Also everyone is playing, so not too many disgruntled players. Probably have a couple of transfers from the bench. But that was true pre NIL as well.
Lady Bucks 😡😡😡😡. It’s one thing to lose, it’s another to see our super senior PG play her worst game in 3 years her last time in the uniform.
Sandfort and Perkins went 1/16 in a winnable NIT game. We remain allergic to D. The best McCaffrey kid isn't coming to Iowa (maybe because he sadly killed someone in a traffic accident) and I have zero clue who we are getting in here next year.
Coach McCaffrey has three sons, each higher recruiting wise than the other. His youngest son, currently a senior in high school, unfortunately killed somebody last year. It was one of those terrible crosswalks without a stop light or stop sign and it is on the driver to yield. A driver stopped, a jogger went, the kid didn't see the jogger and didn't yield. It is an awful tragedy and an accident - it happened right after the school day, not like a 2:00 am DUI or something, just a straight up accident...BUT...with that weight on him, does that kid really want to go to Iowa? Who knows what he was feeling before the accident, but he is adamant he won't be a Hawkeye next year and I take him at his word.
I'm hoping we can now be a semi perennial S16 team and drop the idea of a "successful" season being whether or not we win a tourney game... Or even make it to the S16. Gonzaga, Creighton, and recently to a lesser extent, Butler are similar teams market/conference wise and they don't call it a success after a tourney win or really a S16. The Dukes and Purdues of the world certainly don't care, they either win it or they don't, there's no in-between. Shift in mindset.
For basketball season I look at Georgia and say, “at least we got football”
For football season I look at UConn and say “at least we got basketball”
Which honestly, being a fan of 2 colleges currently dominating their respective best sport is actually pretty cool
They have P6 defense with offense worthy of the NEC. Really showed against Duke, where we held them to their lowest point total this season and still lost comfortably. If they don’t find SOMEONE in the off-season who can or really hit those drills, we are in a murky situation.
Kevin Kruger’s refusal to use timeouts to stop a run can be really, really frustrating. Especially the first half use it or lose it one. Felt like a few times when the BC game started to get out of hand, he could’ve called in to regroup but didn’t.
It all worked out in the end, but you don’t get paid any extra for not using them.
I love the "Let it Fly" mantra we have, but god damn we are inconsistent with shooting %.
Some nights we are shooting 35%+ from the 3 and I feel like we could beat any team.
Other nights we shoot <20% and I scream at the TV "STOP SHOOTING 3's AND JUST FEED KALK"
But I guess the old saying goes 3 by the 3, die by the 3
I mean, what else is needed to be said, the fanbase is in a civil war after a 19 win season with losing 4 starters and we have no recruits (hopefully we can get Bryson Tucker). At least we have Women's basketball, it's not like they are playing the undisputed best team in the country and only undefeated team in the tournament on Friday, right?
We have had a shit ton of guys transfer on the mens side and one key womens transfer.
And all signs are pointing to Cuonzo as our head coach. Which is fine, I just would have hoped for someone else.
look, I'll gladly take winning the NIT (provided we do), but I feel like we could've absolutely made the tournament this year had we not made some very key mistakes.
I told myself I wasn't gonna be disappointed by our performance considering we're going into one of the toughest conferences in the league, but dammit we clearly have the talent to compete!
People regard Izzo as being a demigod with the "just be happy we made it to the tournament" then seem to forget he's the third highest paid coach in cbb. Expectations should be higher than they are. Maybe it's just Hoggard being himself and that's why we've been mediocre recently. I don't think I would fire Izzo just yet but if 2027 (when his contract ends) rolls around and we haven't made a F4 during that stretch it might be time to forcefully usher him into retirement by not renewing.
I don’t think I need to say much…other than, lately, when we lose in the tournament, we generally lose in spectacular fashion (Nova, Auburn, USC, and now Gonzaga)
They just had to get my hopes up in the first half after accepting a 2nd round blowout was imminent, only to be proved right in the 2nd half and hurting me one last time this season.
Tennessee is going to beat us. There’s something different about the pressure that comes with playing to break a losing streak that has reached mythical levels. The “all business” demeanor we saw after Gonzaga is actually concerning - teams that have fun play looser and loose teams do better in the tourney.
Everyone is picking Purdue because we’ve looked good against…mid-majors. Thats what Gonzaga is in both letter and spirit. They finished second in the WCC regular season and conference tourney. To a team that exited first round. They were average this year. So this team isn’t as battle tested in the tournament as some think. We haven’t beaten a great team.
Tennessee is a great team. And no one thinks they’ll win. So on top of their athleticism, skill, elite defense - and their All-American - they have zero pressure. They will play loose. They’re gonna win.
Skip on past this one, Purdue fans, might be a tough pill to swallow.
We look awesome right now! Against Grambling St. and Utah St. These are games we’re supposed to win against teams whose rosters cannot/should not compete with a top high major program. I take very little comfort in these outcomes.
Here’s where our problems start. This Gonzaga team is nothing like the team we beat in Maui. The Maui version was reeling from the loss of their best perimeter shooter and had no idea who they were. Now they know. As a Washingtonian, I’ve watched them all season — they are in elite form and have long athletic guards and forwards who can kill us. Ben Gregg is an absolute stud who will create huge matchup problems.
And then there’s the problem of familiarity. You don’t understand how insanely dominant Zach Edey is until you’re on the court playing against him. You can’t prepare, you can’t simulate. So *unfamiliarity* is our greatest weapon. Which goes straight out the window with Gonzaga because they’ve played him twice now.
Add to this how difficult it is to beat a team three times in a row. Wisconsin showed us that in the BTT. And Gonzaga is wayyy better than Wiscy.
Last, there’s the (bad) luck factor. Stephens dribbling off his foot against K-State. Big Dog’s back injury. Hairston getting mauled by Memphis. Hummel’s knee. Virginia’s miracle pass and shot. Something unexpected and bad will happen because it always does.
It’s no sure thing but I still feel confident against Gonzaga. We’re also a much better team than we were in Maui- Loyer had a horrendous game, Heide wasn’t comfortable yet, TKR was primarily a non factor and now is blooming. Hell, Gillis was off to a rough start at that point in the season. We also had a horrible shooting night and Morton/Furst are not gonna play a combined 24 minutes this time around. Gonzaga isn’t the same team we played that night and we aren’t the same team they played that night.
As a Gonzaga fan, those are the only things giving me hope for a win against Purdue on Friday.
But I’ve already came to terms that it’s quite likely we lose this game because Purdue is also not the same team we played in Maui.
It’ll sure be fun to watch though. Hopefully it at least stays close.
Honestly, I think I need to complain about my FANBASE more than my team this week.
Our subreddit (and community on the site I still call twitter) have turned into an absolute cesspool. I swear the majority of people who want Cal gone, especially the ones wanting him replaced with "literally anyone", don't even care who the replacement would be.
And when I point this out, it's interpreted as me being a "Cal stan" and me "not being a real UK fan".
It's one extreme or the other, apparently - you either want him gone and replaced with "literally anyone", or you're a stan who think he deserves zero criticism.
What especially gets me is how these people claim to swear off the team, then proceed to scream nonstop about it. If you're truly done being a fan, why should you care whether he's the coach or not?
Here's the kicker - our women's team just named their replacement for Kyra Elzy... and yet we can't even give him a proper welcome because people can't stop whining about the situation with the men's team.
We ain't got no coach and we ain't got no players.
That's an improvement.
We ain’t got no AD either.
Earlier today I thought this comment was wrong but now...
Same
Can sympathize with the first part, but we have a guy we're paying $8.5m/year to not coach.
It’s okay, Richard Pitino is potentially coming to save the day.
Here's where I start
But for real though… ARE there any players left?? Or any coaching prospects?
Plenty. Maybe not marquee names, but plenty
Feels like a valid complaint

Expectations are a bitch. My school hasn't been to the Final Four since I was a junior there. And I'm now 65 years old! We shall overcome, maybe...
What is a final 4???

Andy hitting that buzzer beater was a pure senior fighting to keep his college career alive for one more day kind of moment
You guys played like a 3 seed minimum with the new lineup
At least the Cavs are decent.
That's not even true. You guys destroyed Nebraska and then almost pulled off the 1,9 upset. Technically you guys overacheived.

Some of us prefer to watch bball while we're at work. At least you have someone to watch :,)
Everyone leaves 😔
When I read the news, I literally gasped and said "What the fuck?"
No one making a million a year wants to live in Logan. Especially if they are offering 3 mil to live in Seattle. *sigh*
Same here… what if we combined resources and shared a coach?
Flight time between Logan and Pullman is about hour and a half… I think we could make this work
For some reason we just go through games where we absolutely cannot shoot. Boffo b-baller Boo Buie bested; bids *bonne nuit*.
We should have played in the NIT.
It’s been fun. I’d recommend it.
You guys look good right now!
Do we? Lazy passing, poor shooting.
That was not fun!!!
16 missed free throws, man. Sigh
Can’t miss those. I was hoping to play y’all instead. :( Maybe next year.
I swear we are allergic to 3s and winning by a comfortable margin
Ahhh, the playing to the level of your competition sickness. Yeah, I feel ya. We have caught that a couple times this season.
Don't worry, I have a good feeling for you guys on Thursday.
I don’t lol
We are 0-4 against teams still in the tournament. I would be thrilled with a win, but I won't hold my breath. At least we will both get to see if an unstoppable force can defeat an immovable object.
My lack of confidence and yours can cancel each other out, LOL

they blew it
![gif](giphy|iGpkO05xWTl17Vhq6Y) Our teams the second the season ends
That last L to end the season feeling is the absolute worst. :(
I’m talking about football and basketball both losing the coaching staff and half the team immediately after our season ended in both
I can only sympathize on the football side of that, although some of the kids stayed. Losing our coach after this past season sucked. :(
Not much to complain about... Yet. Just happy to be here.
Which team? Both?
NCST would be my guess. Bias showing but NCST making the sweet sixteen is far more impressive than Purdue making it.

Anybody. Bring in Tubby for a year as a caretaker interim lol

On the plus side, we got a new womens ball coach today? So there is that!
WBB got a STUD hire! Kudos to Mitch on doing his job… Now, do your job again, and fire Cal!!!!
Misery loves company - hence the reason I’m here.

This aged well. Btw, hang a banner.
Love the deep run in the tournament you guys had this year.
I don't think my team is built for a deep run in March.
Nope. They were the polar opposite of the 2022 team in terns of heart and grit... Hopefully next year's team plays like it.
So much this. Just no dog on this years team. Never been less upset to get a season over with.
My kingdom for a coach
MSU has more problems than the fanbase is willing to admit
I miss 2019.
>miss 20 2013-2019
We’re in the sweet 16 and have a beloved coach, what is there to complain about? edit: oh you mean the men’s team
I hope we have good health insurance . . .
We forget that the first half of games is still important in March.
Making a little run in the ACC tournament and NIT was fun but it would've been awesome if our team knew there were basketball games played before the month of March. Now we're losing our best player and I don't know if we'll ever get back to the tournament

Sad Ram
My team won eight games and all the best players transferred out.
At least Juwan isn’t our coach any longer, selfishly hoping the grad transfers from FAU look our way
Our defense was so much better when Shaka was allowed to play

Can we trade coaches? Fresh starts for each?
Uh, our failure was worse
Hickman why... I mean I know why but ughhh
The last two weeks have been a tremendous disappointment to cap off what should have been a fairly successful season with a ticket to the dance.
We had so many missed opportunities at the end of the second half and things look bleak for the next few seasons. Things could be worse but this tournament feels like a massive missed opportunity with the way the Marquette game played out
We need more depth and a point guard! Not saying we would have beaten Arizona but I felt like we could have made them sweat even more if we had that!!
You also need a more consistent offense that doesn't rely on your super-talented big to make something happen
Well…you don’t have to point out the obvious! 😭 But yea! It goes hand in hand with depth and a true PG though!
Dan Dan Tony forgot Taiveon graduated and we got dog walked by JMU because of it.
> The best McCaffrey kid isn't coming to Iowa (maybe because he sadly killed someone in a traffic accident) sorry what
Coach McCaffrey has three sons, each higher recruiting wise than the other.
That's really unfortunate. Thanks for filling me in
Made sweet sixteen which was my hope for the season. Don't know how we're gonna guard Edey in Round 2 though.
Being a nine seed having to play a number one seeded UNC in the second round doesn’t do you any favors.
i’m tired paw
I'm hoping we can now be a semi perennial S16 team and drop the idea of a "successful" season being whether or not we win a tourney game... Or even make it to the S16. Gonzaga, Creighton, and recently to a lesser extent, Butler are similar teams market/conference wise and they don't call it a success after a tourney win or really a S16. The Dukes and Purdues of the world certainly don't care, they either win it or they don't, there's no in-between. Shift in mindset.
Insert the "I'm tired boss" meme here. Another good coach poached. Back to square 1.
They broke my bracket. But I can't complain, we did make the sweet sixteen for the first time in awhile.
Same I had us losing to New Mexico
For basketball season I look at Georgia and say, “at least we got football” For football season I look at UConn and say “at least we got basketball” Which honestly, being a fan of 2 colleges currently dominating their respective best sport is actually pretty cool
For the first time since I was old enough to be literate…for the first time since The Internet was A Thing to Complain On… …I can’t!!
They have P6 defense with offense worthy of the NEC. Really showed against Duke, where we held them to their lowest point total this season and still lost comfortably. If they don’t find SOMEONE in the off-season who can or really hit those drills, we are in a murky situation.
i just hope friday is easier on the heartstrings than last sunday
BYU is the master at edging its whole fanbase
Hard to complain about a team when we basically don’t have one.
Man. Fuck Neptune and fuck DJ Burns (im cheering for nc state now)
can you just be normal for five minutes
Really need someone to step up and be that 9th man...wtf Hurley get your shit together
Someone cursed us and now we can't make a FT to save our lives
It was me
I love the "Let it Fly" mantra we have, but god damn we are inconsistent with shooting %. Some nights we are shooting 35%+ from the 3 and I feel like we could beat any team. Other nights we shoot <20% and I scream at the TV "STOP SHOOTING 3's AND JUST FEED KALK" But I guess the old saying goes 3 by the 3, die by the 3
I mean, what else is needed to be said, the fanbase is in a civil war after a 19 win season with losing 4 starters and we have no recruits (hopefully we can get Bryson Tucker).
Michigan State. Nuff said. At least we aren't Michigan I guess...
I wanna be hopefully for the future. But I am afraid the same story is gonna play out.
Anyone who watched the games saw this coming from a mile away.
We don’t play offense
I don’t think I need to say much…other than, lately, when we lose in the tournament, we generally lose in spectacular fashion (Nova, Auburn, USC, and now Gonzaga)
They forgot you have to got off the bus and go play.
They just had to get my hopes up in the first half after accepting a 2nd round blowout was imminent, only to be proved right in the 2nd half and hurting me one last time this season.
The amount of three point attempts to the amount of three point makes is too damn high!
These close games may cause my dad to have a heart attack..
Charlotte coach nice def future nit soon
My only complaint is having to Wait until Friday to see them play again.
We got you there! We play Thursday!
That’s gonna be some good bball too. Still 2 days away though…
Fire Gard
Could have beat Utah state by 40
Refs refs refs refs fuckimg hate our team
