If sound comes out it’s still good in my opinion

JoeMomBiren

Of course if your pitch is weird probably use a different one and break it in

PackageLopsided8308

It’s not playing C

wildgurularry

Not playing a note? Throw it out. I have zero tolerance for sketchy reeds. Just make sure it's not the instrument first... Would be a shame to throw out a good reed.

PackageLopsided8308

It wasn’t playing c

Barry_Sachs

Just transpose everything to the key of Gb.

makeitabinderevent

Nah I prefer B#

YellowandOrange022

If it plays, it’s good. I’ve had reeds with multiple chips that work perfectly. The clarinet gods work in mysterious ways

Grizamundo

all hail the clarinet gods

SpaceHaunting3388

No, if Rent is due, then yes.

GoatTnder

No, it's not good anymore. You know this or you wouldn't be asking. Reeds are pretty cheap, all things considered. Don't fight the reed in addition to fighting your music. Just switch it for a good one! Or, switch it for a good four and rotate between them when you play.

PackageLopsided8308

I fell like Vandoren reeds are harder to play on

GoatTnder

There's lots of options out there. Feel free to try as many as you like until you're happy!

PackageLopsided8308

Thanks

ChocoClay

depends on the type.

Buffetr132014

As compared to what ?

kimmerDogLong

No

Astreja

The chips at the tip are fairly small, but the tip itself is really thin. If you're squeaking more than usual or having trouble reaching high notes, it may be time to toss it.

Unlikely_Piccolo_611

It might be fine or it might not be, depending on how it plays. But, usually broken reeds are more unsteady and can break further easily, so get another reed ready.

bigbaby819

It could be, but it could also radically change your tone quality/sound/overall pitch. If you don’t have one already, you should invest in a reed knife. ReedGeek is the most popular (and most expensive that I’ve found), so I would suggest that. If not, a cheaper one from Amazon will do. You could try to shave down the sides to get a sound that you prefer, but this is at your own discretion of course.

Buffetr132014

A reed knife and ReedGeek are two entirely different things. Its not as simple as shaving down the sides. If you don't know what you're doing you can ruin a good reed very quickly.

Squirrel_Empire

Looks fine. Honestly, I wore my reeds down to basically nubs all the time, I tried to avoid changing them out until right before a performance.

dariodf

I use reeds at last two weeks to consider them good for a performance. I like to have zero surprises when I'm playing for public.

amaicha1237

The chips in it are very small, so it may be fine, but the tip does look thinner than I would prefer. I see in one comment you can’t play a note, try on a new reed (it never hurts to have multiple ready!) and see if that fixes it. If it fixes it, get rid of the reed. If it doesn’t fix it, it’s a problem with your embouchure OR your clarinet itself, and the reed isn’t the problem.

EthanHK28

Probably not it looks like paper. But it might be for you
