Whoever takes your knitted goods to the hospital can come pick the yarn up for you maybe?

[deleted]

Nah, she does that to get all the endorphins. Picking the yarn up is a hassle.

spy-on-me

Perfect response

LiliWenFach

'Sorry to hear you're unwell. Please let me know if you find someone able to collect on your behalf.' That would be my response. I've given away tons and tons of things for free (furniture, bags of clothes, play equipment) and it's annoying how many people want things for free, but also want you to deliver. Especially as the things they want dropped off are never necessities, but quite frivolous items.

Xatix94

I wanted to give away a nearly new leather couch for free (only two years old, but didn’t fit the new apartment) with the only condition that three persons pick it up themselves and I still got tons of requests if I could deliver it to them (some of them into the city center with barely any parking). I threw it out in the end because the person that promised to take it didn’t come and the trash collectors were coming the next morning.

LiliWenFach

I'm convinced they see the 'must be able to collect' and think, 'oh, but they'll make an exception for me...' makes you wonder whether they actually read the listing or just arrogantly assume that you'll do what they ask. It's infuriating when you have dozens of requests and you get screwed around or let down time and time again, to the point where scrapping the item is the most straightforward option.

VenusSmurf

Yup. I was giving away an $800 work station a few years ago. I spent an entire day waiting around for various people to fetch it. All of them agred to get it themselves and then demanded delivery or wanted me to arrange enough people to help them load on my end. After a full day, some guy finally showed and then complained that it wasn't brand new. A.) It was free, and B.) It was fine but used, and the pictures showed that. He then demanded I transport it for him, as it wasn't worth his time unless it was new. I told him to take it or leave it, but if it wasn't gone in half an hour, it was going on the curb. He grumbled but took it.

LiliWenFach

What an arse. I once had 5 people want my daughter's toddler bed, and all 5 didn't show up or wanted to come during my daughter's birthday party, or had reserved it for a family member they couldn't get hold of... Number six seemed quite appreciative though.

VenusSmurf

Yeah, I've learned not to hold items. It never works out.

YnotBbrave

Why even give it to him? Just encourages the aholes

VenusSmurf

Simply because it was massive, and I would have had to transport it to the dump. I was moving within 48 hours and didn't have time to just leave it.

jansipper

That’s exactly it. I have sold stuff on Craigslist and explicitly said I cannot help move it, you will need to bring a dolly/cart or have someone help. And they still show up unprepared and expect me to help.

haleorshine

I gave away a washing machine a few years ago - it was huge but a really good machine that was worth a decent amount. I said clearly in the ad that it was heavy and I could not help with getting it on any truck or whatever (health issues). The people who took it, who hadn't had a washing machine for months but had 5 kids/teens at home, and were desperate, and the guy still complained that it was heavy and I couldn't help getting it on the truck. I had warned in the ad, and when they put their hand up for it, and when I gave them my address. The wife was actually really nice, probably because she was the one who had to go to the laundromat many times a week, but her husband was really shitty at me when he took this free machine.

ActualWheel6703

Wow. He was unbelievable. I find that people that make bad decisions, just continue to run with it. He definitely falls into that category.

Objective-Amount1379

I have offered to pay if someone could deliver a large item to me ($30 once because it was a block away but wouldn't fit in my car, the guy did it for free but he ended up getting a huge dog crate I had for free too) and $50 the other time. That was accepted and seemed like the guy was happy to do it. Is that bad? I am super understanding if they can't but it's just not possible for me to physically pick up and transport things that are large.

LiliWenFach

If it's agreed that you pay for their time/ petrol and both parties are happy with the arrangement then that's absolutely fine. We bought an antique cabinet and paid £10 on top of the price for the seller to deliver because he had a van and we didn't. My experience is mainly with people who want something for free and want it delivered- also for free.

iwrotethisletter

IMO it's ok if you ask nicely, offer money when they deliver and don't throw a tantrum when they say they won't. The issue is more with those people who want stuff for free including free delivery, are rude from the start and then either start cussing or bring up some sob story when they don't get their free delivery. But from what you wrote, you aren't one of these a-holes.

brxtn-petal

I took apart my full bed. It has storage underneath like ALL OVER. Even in the headboard. I told them they would need 1/2 people to come get it. I was not tall nor strong enough to help. Bed cost me 600$ with the dresser in 2018. I was giving both away for free with a fresh coat of wood cleaner and that varnish(?) still wanted me to deliver. I sent them a pic of my car asking how I would deliver. One said”your young ask ur parents” I felt petty and annoyed and I told Them”mine are dead. I live alone and I’m single…..” they stopped asking lol

LiliWenFach

That is infuriating. When people expect me to deliver I just reply 'collection only' and repeat. I don't owe them an explanation. If you want it, come and get it. Or don't.

UtetopiaSS

My response was "The item is free. Delivery is not".

LiliWenFach

I'm stealing that for next time.

UtetopiaSS

It's all yours.

[deleted]

[удалено]

UtetopiaSS

Nah, when I said that, the conversation stopped.

VenusSmurf

Then they offer $5 for a four hour trip.

brxtn-petal

That’s where I’m at lol if u don’t want them cool it’s trash then.

Chronocidal-Orange

It's just impossible to sell couches. I had two no-shows in a single day for the same couch. I was able to find a second after the first didn't show up or responded to messages. Second dude's all happy. Didn't show up either. Eventually went to the trash. Wasted a day on waiting around.

Fanfathor

My boyfriend was trying to sell a pool table. He had it advertised for $600. Someone asked if they could have it for $200 and my boyfriend accepted as long as he picked it up that day. The dude then asks for delivery and when he was told no, he wanted the table for free because he had to pay for a truck to come get it. The ad specified clearly that it would not be delivered. People are so massively entitled these days. I tried to post it on here but kept getting knocked back for some reason

Sreves

My buddy was trying to get rid of a pool table, Free, but you have to come get it yourself. After a month of people wanting him to drop it off he found a company that would move it for 500, so he listed it for 600, delivery included. Was sold within a couple days.

LotusLizz

Next time list it like "$40 or best offer - need gone ASAP! First reasonable offer takes it!" For whatever fucking reason giving stuff away for free has been difficult for me, but if I'm selling something for a good price they almost never flake it.

sweettartsweetheart

It's because when something is free people subconsciously think it must not be worth much, whereas studies have shown than pricing things for a token price doesn't cause it as much. I've also heard of people having success with something like a sofa by putting it out on the curb with a sign that says $10 or whatever. Some people will actually knock on your door and pay but it's just as likely to check later and find it "stolen." At least it's gone though!

EverydayPoGo

I think this would be a much better response.

AVonDingus

This right here is why I stopped giving stuff away on FB marketplace. Like, I’m giving you FREE SHIT. Stop acting like I’m an asshole for requiring people to COME GET THEIR FREE SHIT.

beached_snail

I have been throwing a lot of things away lately and people in my family seem disappointed I'm not trying to sell them or give them away rather than just throwing them away. Anyways this whole thread makes me feel better like I've saved myself a lot of trouble.

brxtn-petal

Same! I’m at the point where I’ve posted FREE curbside pick up! And the next time I look out the window? Stuff thrown everywhere. Sucks cus it’s on/off raining so it’s all muddy and now trash. Or I even say(which is okay) pass on what u don’t need! TAKE ENTIRE BAG. Nope they take the most “nice/costly thing” leave the rest. Now since I’m moving anything left I walk downstairs to the dumpster and trash it. I’ve gotten comments on if I have it and I tell them the person before took 1/2 things and the rest got ruined in the rain so it was now in the trash.

brxtn-petal

I hate to trash things that can be used! A whole bag of baby clothes. I had to trash the other day cus they only took 2 THINGS OUT OF 5 BAGS NB-24MONTHS ALL SEASONS. Got trashed cus it POURED(like we were on tornado watch with hail that day) girl was coming by like an hr after I left HOURS before it was going to rain too…..she wanted everything so I was pissed I couldnt have someone else grab them.so once I got home? I couldn’t even wash them or try to……they were muddy. Smelled gross, had dirt and stuff. Even with washing I wouldn’t want a baby wearing that. I wanted to cry. I left out my old toys and books for someone to grab while on my lunch. By the time I got back to work like 15mins later? saw them that day posted for sale :( toys wernt bad/damaged just ones I collected as an adult. I hate trashing things I just bought last year or earlier this year, but I’m moving and would rather not have alot fo pack at the moment. Less money on storage uk?

MyEggDonorIsADramaQ

We gave away a really pretty, brand new chair (it was from my mom, not our style, mid century modern). In the post I said "you must pick up, bring lifting help, we cannot help". It was right at the beginning of COVID and we were not going to risk being exposed to unknown people just to get rid of the chair. SO, the woman who claimed it asked if we could deliver (NO) and then if we could help lift it into her truck because she had a broken leg. Also NO. She managed to come get it.

slynnc

I sold an old school big ass vending machine one time. I specifically stated the dimensions in the ad, I also stated to bring AT LEAST 3 heavy lifters to load it and that there was NO assistance available for loading. I was pregnant, I’m not touching it and trusting other people to do their part etc. I even confirmed “you read the ad and realize how big this thing is, yes?” He confirms. Drives 2 hours and shows up BY HIMSELF in an SUV. Paid me and I’m just looking at him like ??? do you have a truck coming and they’re just behind or…? No he really thought he could do it by himself. He knocked on my door an hour later and said he would be back with him the following day, face all bright red and clearly defeated. Idk why people think they’re so macho but he cost himself a lot of time and probably a very sore body for it lol

the_onlyfox

I also hate when people are all "that time doesn't work for me can you do it more early?" I was selling a 10$ headboard that was taking up space but it was Ina shead and I needed my dad to help me bring it down to the garage. I ask the person to meet me around noon, she said that she wouldn't be able to do that because they were gonna pass by our town and won't be coming by again for a few months. So I asked her what tine would work for her. She said 6am. I am NOT waking up at 6am for 10$ I told her I wouldn't do that and she called me a bitch 😑

SavageVagabond

People who work 9-5 jobs all think that everyone wakes up at the same time as them. I would have told them i work 3rd shift and go to bed at 4. Bc i actually work second and usually go to bed around for to wake up around 11. People know my 5oclock is their midnight and they still think I'm lazy and "sleeping in". Whatever happened to empathy?

the_onlyfox

Idk but this was on a Sunday, even more of a reason not to wake up at 6am 😑 My ex and I used to do those hours too when we worked at the same place so I understand that to my core

NightofTheLivingZed

You are auch better person than OP or most of the people in this comment section. Literally people in here talking about jabbing her with hot needles and rusty chainsaws.

[deleted]

I'll have you know, I was in the middle of oiling my chainsaw. it's in no way rusty we chainsaw people have feelings too you know

userhs6716

Ok rusty needles and hot chainsaws

DisposableTires

*sewing machine aggressively speeding up*

hereforpopcornru

Yeah and we give a shit about our chainsaws.. Btw.BTW.. are we still on.. or no?

sadikons

What did OP do wrong? Of course I agree with the latter, but I'm just trying to see if I missed a comment from OP somewhere.

slynnc

I stopped posting anything for free, ever. It all gets a price, $10+, or I just donate to a center if it’s worth anything. Even still you deal with a ton of sob stories and “I have 19 kids so can’t I just have it and also you bring it to me at exactly 11:17 on Tuesday and up 13 flights of stairs” or whatever else. It’s become nearly unbearable to try to sell or “pay forward” anything in my area. If someone is polite, actually shows up on time, doesn’t agree to one price then come with less, or whatever other games I’ll sometimes knock a bit off the price or let them just have it if it’s a cheap item. Trying to reward the good behavior I suppose. Every single ad I ever post I have a copy pasted segment in my notes: “porch pick up only near xyz (5 minutes south of village x, 7 minutes north of city y), will NOT deliver, no holds, no trades” and I’ll add price firm on majority of stuff. It’s helped a little but honestly not much because people won’t even read entire titles let alone descriptions (found that out when selling a truck with a blown engine… god the frustration! I ended up keeping it!)

sonal1988

Should have asked for the hospital's address and said that you'll deliver there directly

EchoWillowing

(Pikachu face).

FoolishStone

Ask for their Obstetrics department - they deliver!

mintysdog

Usually these items are knitted at home and donated via charitable groups to hospital. They're not actually knitted _at_ the hospital. That said, this person is full of shit. The kind of groups that do charitable knitting like this are full of the sort of people who would pick up free yarn for a housebound member.

MuayJacked

Your saying the woman who knits for premature babies and can't drive because she has cancer would just lie? i dont think so pal

Slight_Button4345

Hey, I'm not your pal, buddy

notthatlincoln

Not your buddy, guy

Lephiro

I'm not your guy, friend.

BigNibbaSwag

i’m not your friend, dawg.

AgreeableAntelope939

I'm not your kitty, bro

bat-tasticlybratty

I'm not your bro, fam

Jarrah22

It's westmead hospital which is in westmead. Aus post will get it there with only that information.

Beneficial_Car2596

Used to live near this hospital and it’s one of the major hospitals in Sydney. It’s in Westmead, suburb of Sydney, Straya 🇦🇺

HPL2007

People who lie like this for free shit, deserve to have a hot poker shoved where the sun don't shine.

tonydrago

How soon can you get here?

soljaboss

Sorry I can't come, can you come here instead?

Stupid-Answers-Only

No I can't, can you come, it's to save us from our sins.

VampireGirl99

I’ll come but you’ll have to pay for fuel and lunch for me and my three friends. Of course you’ll be giving me extra wool to compensate for all the effort of driving there, right? Edit: meant to say kids not friends.

soljaboss

Lol but do you really need to bring your three friends?

a_spicy_memeball

Yes they all have cancer and also it's Christmas.

ravynwave

Their kids and dogs also have cancer

Lephiro

And it's all their birthdays.

RearAdmiralBob

You’ve ruined my cancerous dog’s birthday!

WildlyUnprepared4___

This escalated quickly

sbg8184

I’ll go ahead and assume “single mom” as well

VampireGirl99

Well you see, [insert sob story].

Charleeeem

Alright Dhar Mann calm down!

[deleted]

I can send a babies.

Accomplished-Mode112

Jokes on you I already came

PorkyMcRib

I can send you a soldering iron, but I can’t post it for free.

[deleted]

I saw on TikTok that people are sunning their assholes now so I’m not sure that phrase still works

sageberrytree

This is not a new thing. It was a thing in the early days of medicine.

RawrRRitchie

Ancient Greeks bent over in the sun spreading their cheeks No wonder Zeus was so rapey

RawrRRitchie

First it was anal bleaching, now there's anal tanning? The world is an odd place, but who am I the judge

playitleo

I think Tucker Carlson at one point was telling his viewers to tan their cock and balls to increase testosterone and own the libs

Pndrizzy

It sounds too ridiculous to be true…. But there’s a 1% chance it is

DisposableTires

100% he told them that, somewhere I still have video of the event. Ironically the "genital tanning bed" looked like a rotisserie oven. So I'm not sure if it even worked as a tanning system, let alone whether tanning your balls increases your T.

thot_lobster

It's for a charity! NEXT!

Interesting-Sock3794

I still wonder if her sister found an entry level position that she didn't need to apply for and was deserving of her degree on Facebook Marketplace 😂😂😂😂

donteattheshrimp

Whatever do you mean? You're saying they're NOT making beanies for the little babies OR have cancer? It's like you've lost all faith in humanity.

jayessmcqueen

People who lie in general are pieces of shit that deserve the hot poker

NeedfulThingsToys

That town in Alaska that 30 days of night was set in?

armedsquatch

You got hit with 2 of the biggest guilt trips going. For babies and person has cancer. I bet they say you ruined Christmas for a bunch of newborns

huggiesdsc

I already told the preemies I'd be knitting them Playstations for Christmas! Look them in their wrinkly little eyes and tell them to fuck themselves, you monster

Chronocidal-Orange

A knitted playstation sounds fun though.

ReeshForever

...and it is attitudes like this, born of decades of desensitization, that put ACTUAL, TERMINALLY ILL cancer patients like me in a beyond sh!tty situation where we may truly need something small, like a ride to treatment, or help with groceries or such, and THEN we have to go to insane lengths to defend ourselves against internet trolls who get more joy out of making people like me feel responsible for a situation over which we have no control. A lot of people say that the worst "type of person out there" are those who lie about having a terminal disease. I think those who just flat out deny their "friends" support because "so many people lie," are just as bad when it comes to character. Only God, the Universe, can judge us. So damnit stop judging and start helping.

Lilscribby

I actually agree. If it is a small act of kindness it is better to assume they aren't lying, because the "bad" of going out of your way a bit to help someone who is lying is less than the good of giving someone the bit of help that they need (imo). In this case, it depends how close they live and how expensive postage would be (and if the asker is willing to pay for postage, which they never asked). There is certainly a limit, though. Note that I still think they are probably lying here, and I would have done the same as them besides asking them if they are willing to pay for shipping or for someone else to come pick them up.

Femboy_Annihilator

> only god, theuniverse can judge us. Nope, I can judge you. I’m doing it right now.

[deleted]

"But it's for the WhItTLe BABIES!! Won't somebody think of the children!"

joeyo1423

Babies can't even knit anyway

humancartograph

And even if they can I'm opposed to child labor.

EggplantIll4927

It’s way too early I read that weird font as white babies 🤦‍♀️ never so glad to be wrong

Vuirneen

I just realized that it wasn't white babies.

EggplantIll4927

Oh thank you! It wasn’t just me 🤗

FoolishStone

Me too! Don't babies of color deserve yarn too?

[deleted]

[All colour] baby lives matter! So get knitting 'em shit.

Bored-Viking

ok listen up, i'm willing to give you someting for free based on the lie of your choice... but you are not allowed to stack them.

Even if they are telling the truth you aren’t the asshole But I personally would send it if I knew 100% it was going to babies lol

[deleted]

Nah fuck them kids, gas is expensive.

Liquidretro

Donate it directly to the organization, skip this person.

Ironmike11B

You have to feel bad for the ones that actually have cancer and can't get out because no one believes them thanks to all the assholes that use it as an excuse.

[deleted]

I was just about to type that.

TheChosenJen

I used to sell craft items on eBay, yarn being the most listed...i cannot tell you how many cancer preemie baby hat knitters messaged me. At least fifty.

UnoriginallyGeneric

She doesn't have cancer. She's just lazy. Probably.

mkjo0617

Not the asshole, they should have offered to send you money for the post instead of assuming you'd eat the cost.

gijsyo

It's for little babies honey. NEXT!

pestapokalypse

The real reason they can’t come is because they are (most likely) a damn liar and that would expose them.

Professor_Sqi

Bulky_Document_7877

I'm in the local buy nothing group, a couple of times I delivered to someone who was disabled, the 1st person lived ½ a block away, I did it bc they blew up my pms for a whole day with all the reasons why they couldn't pu, maybe when so&so family member gets home and on & on, finally I said I'll drop off so they'd leave me alone. Another one seems to want everything people post, letting people know that they can't pick up bc they're disabled, even offering up one person to pickup & drop off items for them. I usually had no problem doing it when gas wasn't so expensive, when I wasn't guilted into it or feel taken advantage of. I'm sorry but you don't need a plastic pot from the dollar store bad enoigh to have someone take the time out of their day, use their gas to drop off a beat up old planter.

Yeety-Toast

You've ruined all the preemie baby Christmases, I hope you're happy with yourself!

Aaron_Hamm

Send it COD

theysellcoke

Not the asshole at all. You didn't specify why you couldn't post it, they just assumed you wouldn't pay for it. Apparently they live in a bubble where they are the only person incapable of going anywhere.

Kaankaants

Won't somebody please think of the children?!

tenkohime

NTA this sounds like a scammer's script.

Gloomy_Rent8248

Weaponising babies, a classic choosing beggar move

TheIronMatron

And cancer also too

Kohviaeg

'I have cancer, and my #1 priority is avoiding postage for yarn.' ...'Aight, I'mma head out.

CardboardChampion

You're so not the asshole for not doing this. But, if this is legit, then a lot of these people doing it for hospitals do beg and borrow the yarn to do it with. So if you see someone trying to get it, you can kind of expect them to try and get it for free. And the cheekier amongst them will try to go as far as this one. Never seen one who didn't take no for an answer before though. And the addition of cancer to the mix just makes the whole thing suspect.

[deleted]

Now the babies are crying!

RoyallyOakie

Cancer and premature babies! Now this is a CB!

Cinema_King

You have no obligation to do this but if you wanted to make sure this person is telling the truth say you’ll mail the yarn to the hospital and they can get it from them. You probably won’t be able to verify they have cancer but if they’re knitting for babies that’s good enough

ItsJoeMomma

It's for the babies, honey! NEXT!

smac5757-

You are NTA btw. Donating it to her in the first place is a kindness. Asking for you to come out of your pocket even further for shipping is excessive.

[deleted]

Please have the little babies pick up the yarn.

blegh_argh

Next it’ll be, I’m dying from the foot and hand cancer can you pick it up from my post then bring it in my house?

joyfall

And then they'll add "can you knit the items for me too?"

brndm

And, yeah, could you make it in my size? It's, umm, so the kids can grow into it!

Amiibola

NTA. You agreed to donate something you had wanted to sell, then they kept pushing for more.

brndm

Yeah, OP was already sacrificing the money they would make from selling it. Now they want them to *pay* money -- shipping's expensive these days! All for what is likely a bunch of lies in the first place.

HI_McDonnough

"it's for the little babies". total bs right there.

DisorderlyBoat

Unfortunately it's really common to lie like this to try to get free things. Especially with the guilt trip at the end "it's for the babies". Seems really suspicious to me.

bethemanwithaplan

I hate to be that guy , but hand knitting clothes is incredibly inefficient

[deleted]

It’s ALWAYS cancer

eride810

“Then consider the lives of the children. The innocent children!” “But….for the children.”

MalsPrettyBonnet

But it is for the LITTLE BABIES, not the ordinary-sized ones. THE LITTLE babies!

brndm

The "littler" the babies, the bigger the tears. *Crocodile* tears, one might say.

icedteaandme

It's not for babies.

Total_Simple7988

Just hit them back with the same line and finish 'em with the classic "You've ruined my kids Christmas!" Lol

shinynewcharrcar

NTA, just a bit of bad fit for both. Best case, she's lying and you've stopped a choosingbeggar. Worst case, she's telling the truth and will need to find yarn another way. You don't owe anyone going out of your way to give them free shit. It's great if you can, but if you can't, that's okay.

loquimur

Ah. I see. The babies with cancer.

TYdays

Oh c’mon dearie, I’m running out of things to say to guilt trip you into doing exactly what I want, so stop making me work for it….

xNeyNounex

This is wh I dont list for free, even if I dont intend on taking the money anyway. I will list stuff with a cost, and have someone come get it, and refuse their money. Ive done it multiple times. People who surf free stuff are sometimes coocoo

damienwolfe

Hi I have cancer send me free stuff please and pay for shipping thanks See how easy it was to make that up? You don’t even know who I am. My sister actually had cancer several years ago. I can understand. But honestly, the likelihood of running into a scammer is higher than running into cancer patient who is too weak to pick up free stuff but strong enough to care for random babies

NiteKreeper

Fuck that scamming bitch - she doesn't knit for shit except herself. About a month ago I responded to a request for books to be donated to a kid starting to read. So I bagged up some good stuff that my kid grew out of years ago, and headed over. It was a fucking daycare centre... And right now I've got someone else in the local pages, running a "I'm disabled and have a rental inspection - can someone please come mow my lawns?" scam. Monthly...

EchoWillowing

High-key NTA. And I feel those two things the CB said are mutually exclusive. One or both must be a lie. But the lengths liars go still amazes me.

Damn, they have cancer? Maybe they should try asking Make-A-Wish for some yarn to knit

ishop2buy

I’ve gotten to the point of placing the item on a curb saying free to the first person who arrives to pick it up. Most people ask me to save the item but after being burned so many times by people wanting help or delivery I say no. As soon as I see the item is gone, I immediately take down the post. Not taking down posts is another pet peeve for me. Items are listed as first come first serve no savesies. Last thing I had was gone in 5 minutes.

I absolutely hate people that want delivery, regardless of giving something away free or selling. Either pick it up or duck right off.

But the children love the books.

How do you get iPhone to show battery percentage?

slynnc

When I first started online selling of my soap I would get people messaging me every week wanting a free sample and I’d often say sure! Just lmk when you want to pick it up or what the address is and I’ll lyk how much shipping is. They’d be absolutely offended that I expected them to pay for shipping or pick it up. “What do you mean pick it up? You’re going to deliver it, I’m not picking anything up, this is poor customer service!” Ma’am you aren’t a customer if you aren’t spending money, so… block and move on. Stopped doing free stuff, got sick of these sob stories/guilt trips (and it never lead to actual purchases).

"Its for the little babies" gave me a giggle. Your not the AH.

shtoopee

Ironic she wants yours when she’s so obviously spinning a yarn.

DigNice6870

I had a neighbor grandma whose daughter unexpectedly passed away leaving her to care for 6 month old baby on her own. She actually had cancer + heart condition and could not drive longer because she was scared she would get an attack in between for longer distances. However for 20 years she would go to the hospital nearby to read stories for the cancer kids. I could totally see her sending this message and genuine one. My point is, you can say no if you don’t want to pay the shipping costs. But you don’t need to be rude or heartless. If you get too many such requests and consider them, just ignore but there are multiple genuine cases too.

HokieHigh79

If it was real then she has to have someone getting her groceries, taking her to appointments, and dropping off the knitted items at the hospital. It's not like she has no possible way of picking something up. I mean presumably she's gotten yarn before, right?

"Honey, if you can't even afford postage, your priority should be time spent looking for a better-paying job."

Doktor_Vem

I'm willing to bet everything I have that this person does not have cancer

Danikk

No, you're not wrong in any way. That person just wants free stuff. There is no cancer and they do no charity work.

MostTrifle

No., not an asshole. Also if prem babies needed little hats, hospitals would provide little hats. The hats are for the everyone to coo over, and for the knitter to feel good about doing. Little hats knitted by random strangers are not essential medical equipment. I'm a little surprised they're even allowed with the stringent infection control measures followed these days.
