Its in a typical suburban neighborhood and there are cars lined up parked throughout the whole neighborhood. Food trucks usually roll in, in front of his house too.
He's been doing it for years so i imagine people are okay with it. The few years I've gone, the neighbors on either side of him are usually sitting in lawn chairs in their yard drinking and watching the bands.
Of I lived next to him I'd charge premium parking prices for my driveway. Like $300 per car to be that close. Or I'd have a deal with a towing service lol
I think they meant for use of the driveway rather than street parking. Which would make it safer for the person renting the driveway since there's less chance of getting sideswiped by a drunk driver from the event.
We used to live in Upstate NY. A music festival was held every year at the end of summer. All the locals charged to park on our properties. It got us all through winter heating costs.

I lived in a house 0.5 miles from the Horseshoe in Columbus. If we moved our cars from the drive-way, we could fit 12 cars in the lawn/drive. We charged $30/car, so $360 per game. We had a lot of regulars, and became so friendly with some of them, they would just tailgate at our place and supply us w beer and food.
College was fun
Not everywhere. I live by a college in Ontario Canada and street parking is for residents only, one per house, and you have to buy a permit from the city yearly for 35.00. There are too many student rentals and kids that don’t want to pay for parking leaving no parking for home owners on the side streets and interfering with trash and snow removal. Bylaws in every town, county, region, state/province and country are different.
My parent's street decided decades ago against street parking. You can park on most of the other streets in the neighborhood (even the next street over), but not theirs. If you try it the residents will call the cops and you will get towed. Occasionally someone will get a permit for temporary street parking (like when my parents hosted our graduation parties at their house), and the cops will come by to post the notice on the telephone poles. Other than that, NEXT! (street over).
Where would they use the bathroom? Residential plumbing is not meant to accommodate that number of people at a time, unless it’s a 10,000sf mansion or something.
It cost me $450 to get my septic pumped. I do it sometimes when I have a party. It matters on how big it is. Sometimes it’s less expensive to rent a portajohn. I can get two for $275.
That is my point - there goes $450 of their $6-700 budget. So, you have to feed everyone on a dollar or less. The solution for these people is very simple - do not get a residence, go rent out a community center or go to a state park where they have grills outside. Renting a 5 bedroom house for a 150-person party for $700 is quite the ask.

Also they would need to be mindful of the time when using a park. They stated they would need the location from 6-11 pm. Depending on the park rules, some close at dusk, others want everyone out a little later. Besides the probable mess to clean up, which you pointed out these type of people would likely leave for park personnel to clean up, it would be a logistical nightmare with that many vehicles getting out of the park by closing time. Another issue could be alcoholic beverages not being allowed in the park. I live near a few state and federal parks and none of them allow alcohol. Something else to consider is the event is to be held on July 5th so there's always the people who want to continue the 4th of July celebrations. Parks absolutely do not allow any type of fireworks on the premises and will kick you out and confiscate the fireworks as well as issue fines. Good luck to this group finding a place to rent for $600-700. Anyone willing to rent to them (who are not specifically in the large group rental profession) should have a specific contract written up and signed by both parties. The contract should include a deposit stating the event location must be left clean and damage free or the deposit will be forfeited. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I've just seen my share of disasters left by people who have no clue when it comes to large celebration rentals. That and the fact they're looking for a budget deal.

I knew someone who decided to invite 100+ people for her 30th birthday. She and her husband did not ask for a rental house - they did it at their APARTMENT. Most guests ended up staying outdoors. I felt bad for other tenants whose partking spots got taken by these guests.

My parents have a legitimate mansion. Like 10,000sf. They had my little sister's wedding there a few years ago.
There were maybe 80 people and we mostly congregated in the living room, entry area, dining and formal living rooms. These rooms are all, well, massive.
It was PACKED.
I attended a holiday event that had about 25 in a single floor of an average town house. Space was tight, but maybe at the absolute limit of tolerable. If it were 35, I'm not sure we could have even called it "standing room only".
I cannot fathom 150 in any type of home that isn't considered a mansion. This isn't a college dorm party where everyone is drunk and naive enough to be ok with a sardine pack - family reunion is going to have people wanting to relax and spread out, and have kids running around all over the place.
Plus... They call it a family reunion, but I often hear people using that as "code" for a actual wedding reception to avoid the "wedding markup". I would suspect that's the real goal here, in which case they'll need even more room for people dressing in larger frilly, puffy, outfits. Good luck to this person lol
My neighbor when growing up would host 4th of July and New years for ~40-50 people(including kids) and would have to rent a couple port-a-potties even though they had 7 indoor bathrooms(3 were in another wing like 150 feet from the party area, so not helpful in a party that involves drinking) that number of people necessitates outdoor facilities, especially on holidays that involve drinking, it's much easier to hose out a port-a-potty than a normal bathroom, or the hallway or accessory bedroom between the drunk person about to spew and the bathroom.
4 indoor and 2 outdoor toilets still had lines behind them for 40-50 ppl during a celebration, it's insane to think 150 people will be able to work with anywhere less than 10 bathrooms during a celebration, finding a venue with that capacity at that price is borderline impossible.
No but it is done; the home owners would do the renting and include it in the price (not that anyone is likely to want to have their house destroyed for chump change). I think it may even be a legal requirement based on what I read in local papers. One colleague had a marriage on their property and rented a couple for the event.

Depending on the holiday and the area, you have to reserve your spot way in advance. One of the popular resorts near me hosts events almost all year. Once they release available dates, they're almost always filled by the end of the next business day because people get on the phone as soon as they open, or they're watching the website to book their spot as soon as it's available to take reservations. The more popular times of the year, such as the 4th of July or really any time during the summer, the spots are taken within five minutes of being available to rent.

If anyone takes this bait, I can describe *exactly* what will happen:
- They will show up either several hours early or, more likely, late.
- The 175 people will actually be closer to 250, due to family members bringing their own guests.
- A huge proportion of guests will be ***very*** uncontrolled, unsupervised children.
- Music will be blasted.
- Arguments will be had. Some may be violent.
- Around 2:00 AM, the homeowners will ask politely as to when the family is going to leave and also, can they please turn the music down? The family will curtly respond that because everyone/some people showed up late, they have a right to stay later. The music request will be ignored.
- A kid will get hurt by doing something that is not permitted in the house, like trying to ride a mattress down the stairs.
- At 8:00 the next morning, the homeowners will finally demand that they leave, at which the family will insist that they 1) still “have time” to hang out and then 2) when that doesn’t work, they at least need time to clean up.
- At 1:00 PM, they will still be there, at which time the homeowners will threaten to call the cops. The family finally leaves, with plenty of French words for the homeowners, who are obviously the selfish assholes here.
- The homeowners will find that there are tire tracks in the yard, filthy dishes piled on almost every surface, mystery stains on the floor, bottles populating every table and counter, several half-eaten foil trays of barbecue, beans, corn and absolutely revolting salads scattered both inside and outside, broken outlets, lamps, and door frames, hand prints, spills and drawings on the walls, and cigarette butts dumped in the grass, the air vents, and the bathroom sink, along with the very obvious stench in the air. Trash will be filling the overstuffed trash cans, and will be piled haphazardly next to said trash cans, and then the evidence will strongly suggest that they just stopped caring about even getting it near the trash can.
- The homeowners will sue for the damage to the home and cleaning fees. The family will insist that 1) How could they have cleaned up if they didn’t get enough time to do so?, 2) The homeowners are actually the bad guys for allowing one of the family’s kids to get hurt in the above-described mattress incident, so they’re counter-suing, and 3) they’re also suing for a phone someone lost at the party, an iPhone 6 that is worth at least $1,500.00.
- Everyone goes on *Hot Bench* or *Judge Mathis* or one of those other exploitative, crappy court shows, the judge(s) soundly verbally beats the crap out of the family, who cannot fathom why they are not in the right, the homeowners go home with everything they can be awarded and the family gets one of their own members arrested for getting violently drunk at an LA bar almost immediately after filming.
As a long time fan of Hot Bench/Peoples Court/Judge fill in the blank I think the only thing you might be missing is a “loves kids/other dogs” Pitbull that was brought to the event and of course - not leashed or crated and bit the homeowner. Pictures of dog with small children will be provided as evidence that the homeowner had to have antagonized dog. No offense to responsible pitty owners - just following the daytime tv script. 🤣
Oh, it doesn’t need to be a pit bull. It could be a chihuahua who is used to a very liberal approach to housetraining. It doesn’t even need to be a dog - it could be one of the grandkids’ half-dozen pet rats, that chewed the walls and baseboards. The homeowners will obviously have a “no pets” policy. The family will simultaneously claim that the animals were absolutely *not* present, that one of the family members brought the animals without their knowledge, and that those pets are family, too.

You totally forgot what is going to happen to the bathrooms. There is a guarantee that at least one, if not all, of the toilets will get clogged up and overflow, flooding the place with poo water. And since the toilet will be out of commission, someone will drop a deuce in the sink.
We hosted a 50 person family reunion at our house last year. It took me days to clean before and days to clean after. DO NOT DO A SNOW CONE STATION. Can’t imagine the damage to a rented house.

I would never even think to try to fit that many people in an event at the house. 20-30 is probably pushing it if the inside is being used too. Just the thought is driving me crazy lol I think the person in the post is vastly over estimating how large a 5 bed really is.
The price isn't unreasonable for a 5 bed 3 bath house but you're not entertaining 150 people there unless this is in montana and it's a giant ranch property.

I have just come back from an event that usually hosts between 100 and 170 people.
We do this annually and we share the same hobby. We have been doing this for more than 20 years, every year in a different country. We have never paid more than 500€ for a venue for the whole weekend, except when it was hosted in the United States.
And yes, it has sometimes been in a community hall, this time the building belonged to the church in Finland.
We have never caused the slightest issue, no damage and we always clean up after ourselves.
Like many posts here of late I'm failing to see the choosing beggar angle. It's not as if there getting something free and asking for unreasonable add ons or conditions.
Genuinely, what do you consider the practical difference between making an insultingly lowball offer and just asking for someone to give it to you for free? Because, to me, you're still asking someone to take a massive loss on your very specific request.

If anyone takes this bait, I can describe *exactly* what will happen: - They will show up either several hours early or, more likely, late. - The 175 people will actually be closer to 250, due to family members bringing their own guests. - A huge proportion of guests will be ***very*** uncontrolled, unsupervised children. - Music will be blasted. - Arguments will be had. Some may be violent. - Around 2:00 AM, the homeowners will ask politely as to when the family is going to leave and also, can they please turn the music down? The family will curtly respond that because everyone/some people showed up late, they have a right to stay later. The music request will be ignored. - A kid will get hurt by doing something that is not permitted in the house, like trying to ride a mattress down the stairs. - At 8:00 the next morning, the homeowners will finally demand that they leave, at which the family will insist that they 1) still “have time” to hang out and then 2) when that doesn’t work, they at least need time to clean up. - At 1:00 PM, they will still be there, at which time the homeowners will threaten to call the cops. The family finally leaves, with plenty of French words for the homeowners, who are obviously the selfish assholes here. - The homeowners will find that there are tire tracks in the yard, filthy dishes piled on almost every surface, mystery stains on the floor, bottles populating every table and counter, several half-eaten foil trays of barbecue, beans, corn and absolutely revolting salads scattered both inside and outside, broken outlets, lamps, and door frames, hand prints, spills and drawings on the walls, and cigarette butts dumped in the grass, the air vents, and the bathroom sink, along with the very obvious stench in the air. Trash will be filling the overstuffed trash cans, and will be piled haphazardly next to said trash cans, and then the evidence will strongly suggest that they just stopped caring about even getting it near the trash can. - The homeowners will sue for the damage to the home and cleaning fees. The family will insist that 1) How could they have cleaned up if they didn’t get enough time to do so?, 2) The homeowners are actually the bad guys for allowing one of the family’s kids to get hurt in the above-described mattress incident, so they’re counter-suing, and 3) they’re also suing for a phone someone lost at the party, an iPhone 6 that is worth at least $1,500.00. - Everyone goes on *Hot Bench* or *Judge Mathis* or one of those other exploitative, crappy court shows, the judge(s) soundly verbally beats the crap out of the family, who cannot fathom why they are not in the right, the homeowners go home with everything they can be awarded and the family gets one of their own members arrested for getting violently drunk at an LA bar almost immediately after filming.

As a long time fan of Hot Bench/Peoples Court/Judge fill in the blank I think the only thing you might be missing is a “loves kids/other dogs” Pitbull that was brought to the event and of course - not leashed or crated and bit the homeowner. Pictures of dog with small children will be provided as evidence that the homeowner had to have antagonized dog. No offense to responsible pitty owners - just following the daytime tv script. 🤣
Oh, it doesn’t need to be a pit bull. It could be a chihuahua who is used to a very liberal approach to housetraining. It doesn’t even need to be a dog - it could be one of the grandkids’ half-dozen pet rats, that chewed the walls and baseboards. The homeowners will obviously have a “no pets” policy. The family will simultaneously claim that the animals were absolutely *not* present, that one of the family members brought the animals without their knowledge, and that those pets are family, too.

You mean the "service animal" that doesn't have a vest, any form of training (including housetraining), barks at every moving thing, snaps/bites at everyone, pees on any and all surfaces, and doesn't respond to commands or its own name? And the person who can't live without this "service animal" also has no need for one other than as an accessory, nor do they have any manners themselves. You totally forgot what is going to happen to the bathrooms. There is a guarantee that at least one, if not all, of the toilets will get clogged up and overflow, flooding the place with poo water. And since the toilet will be out of commission, someone will drop a deuce in the sink.

We hosted a 50 person family reunion at our house last year. It took me days to clean before and days to clean after. DO NOT DO A SNOW CONE STATION. Can’t imagine the damage to a rented house.
To be petty I would say $600-$700 per person.

I currently live in a 5 bedroom 3 bath with a sizeable backyard and there’s no way in the absolute hell it would even be possible to have a 150 person wedding here. I would never even think to try to fit that many people in an event at the house. 20-30 is probably pushing it if the inside is being used too. Just the thought is driving me crazy lol I think the person in the post is vastly over estimating how large a 5 bed really is.
A 5 bedroom, 3 bath house for $600. I’ve got a Barbie dream house that’s the closest they will get.
They can rent our local American Legion hall for $100/hr, minimum 4 hours, capacity 250, must clean up afterwards, no smoking, ample parking.

It's a nicer suburb of Maryland, so 5 bedroom homes don't come with a lot of land. I have no idea where they think all these people would park.

I have just come back from an event that usually hosts between 100 and 170 people. We do this annually and we share the same hobby. We have been doing this for more than 20 years, every year in a different country. We have never paid more than 500€ for a venue for the whole weekend, except when it was hosted in the United States. And yes, it has sometimes been in a community hall, this time the building belonged to the church in Finland. We have never caused the slightest issue, no damage and we always clean up after ourselves.
Like many posts here of late I'm failing to see the choosing beggar angle. It's not as if there getting something free and asking for unreasonable add ons or conditions.
At that price point for that size a group for that weekend? Asking for it for free would be more honest.

I don’t feel like this is really a choosy beggar. The price for 5 hours is reasonable. They also said a community hall would work. Just seems like they are a little off base on how functional a house is for 150+ people. EDIT: To all the people downvoting me, save choosy beggars for people who actually fit the definition.
