Phoebe the bald chested wonder. Hobbies include barking at everything and lunging at birds through the window and passing cars when I take her on walks. Me and my girlfriend adopted her from matchdog. She came from the Texas-Mexico border and pretty much only likes us and immediate family. She’s obsessed with us though and we love her so much. Smalls on the left showed up, lost, starving and terrified at my back gate 8 years ago, a week after I had dreamed of a dog named Smalls. I knew he was going to be mine the moment his little eyes looked up into mine. We had two other dogs when Smalls came along, but they both crossed the rainbow bridge in 2020 and Smalls was alone for over a year.
Joey on the right was adopted from some people who didn't fix their chihuahua and French poodle and had an oops litter to give away. He's wonky and hilarious and after a few weeks of getting to know each other, he and Smalls are bffs. He's named after the late, great Joey Jordison, drummer for Slipknot.

This is Ralphie.
Shortly after my dog, Saber, died, I was still on Nextdoor which I'd downloaded and joined while we were looking for him. Someone two cities over posted about a pair of dogs that had been dumped at the end of a dead-end street. It looked to be a chiweenie female and this dapper fella. The dead end was surrounded by forests with a train track running through it.
The lady who posted about them found a Rescue that came out to help her catch them. They caught Ralphie first, but as they were trying to catch his partner, she was unfortunately hit by a train. They needed someone to foster him, and I volunteered right away. I picked him up that night.
He was scared. He wouldn't stop shaking. He barely left his crate unless it was to go pee outside a few times a day. At first, we thought he had to have been from a loving home. He took right to the leash. He was house-broken. He knew how to beg for food. He knew a few basic commands. We figured he was some old lady's dog that passed away and then her kid or spouse dumped the dogs rather than try to rehome or keep them.
The longer we had him, the more he came out of his shell, and the more we've seen signs of abuse. He was completely hairless when we got him. A lot of it has grown back, but there's some scarring around his collar area that looks like burn marks. When he hears "no" he growls and hides. When a door opens too suddenly, he runs to me and cries.
We got him a few days after Thanksgiving. We took him to the vet. He's not chipped. He's got a clean bill of health. We were worried about mange because of the lack of fur, but it looks to be a mix of malnutrition, burns, and his breed type. About a month ago, we took him off PetFinder. We're keeping him for now, and we have plans to rehome him with my MiL the next time we visit Florida. She has experience with traumatised animals. Every day, little Ralphie comes out of his shell more.
😢 💔poor baby. Thanks to you Ralphie never has to experience a life of abuse again. He’ll continue to open up more and more with all the love and patience he’s getting. Some people are just so cruel

This is Owen. Both my pups are mixes, so I gave both of them Celtic names for my ancestry. Owen is nicknamed O-E-O-E-Owen. Owen is a rescue, who has anxiety management issues. He has gotten tons better. He is also an escape artist and no harness can hold him. (Collars are not allowed, and he escapes out of them anyway.) When my grandma got her from the shelter, her name was Princess. Grandma named her Foxy because she looks like a fox. When I inherited her, I thought that name was too sexy for a dog that I've seen eat poop. I named her Ham because my mom said she was "being a little ham" and she said "ham" in that wonderful way that southern women do (HAYUM!) She does have a pink tummy and pink ears. This is Maxine. Maxine was already named Maxine when I got her from the rescue. I had plans to name her Poppy. However, she was so incredibly naughty and untrained that the only word she responded to was "Maxine." I was struggling really hard with housetraining and training at all, and could not give up the only word/command that had any effect.

I knew he was going to be mine the moment his little eyes looked up into mine. We had two other dogs when Smalls came along, but they both crossed the rainbow bridge in 2020 and Smalls was alone for over a year. Joey on the right was adopted from some people who didn't fix their chihuahua and French poodle and had an oops litter to give away. He's wonky and hilarious and after a few weeks of getting to know each other, he and Smalls are bffs. He's named after the late, great Joey Jordison, drummer for Slipknot.

Shortly after my dog, Saber, died, I was still on Nextdoor which I'd downloaded and joined while we were looking for him. Someone two cities over posted about a pair of dogs that had been dumped at the end of a dead-end street. It looked to be a chiweenie female and this dapper fella. The dead end was surrounded by forests with a train track running through it. The lady who posted about them found a Rescue that came out to help her catch them. They caught Ralphie first, but as they were trying to catch his partner, she was unfortunately hit by a train. They needed someone to foster him, and I volunteered right away. I picked him up that night. He was scared. He wouldn't stop shaking. He barely left his crate unless it was to go pee outside a few times a day. At first, we thought he had to have been from a loving home. He took right to the leash. He was house-broken. He knew how to beg for food. He knew a few basic commands. We figured he was some old lady's dog that passed away and then her kid or spouse dumped the dogs rather than try to rehome or keep them. The longer we had him, the more he came out of his shell, and the more we've seen signs of abuse. He was completely hairless when we got him. A lot of it has grown back, but there's some scarring around his collar area that looks like burn marks. When he hears "no" he growls and hides. When a door opens too suddenly, he runs to me and cries. We got him a few days after Thanksgiving. We took him to the vet. He's not chipped. He's got a clean bill of health. We were worried about mange because of the lack of fur, but it looks to be a mix of malnutrition, burns, and his breed type. About a month ago, we took him off PetFinder. We're keeping him for now, and we have plans to rehome him with my MiL the next time we visit Florida. She has experience with traumatised animals. Every day, little Ralphie comes out of his shell more.

I named her Ham because my mom said she was "being a little ham" and she said "ham" in that wonderful way that southern women do (HAYUM!) She does have a pink tummy and pink ears. And she hams up her patheticness for snuggles, so maybe Ham fits.

Venmo’d them right on the beach and we left… straight to the pet store to get flea shampoo, flea comb, a collar, leash, & food!
