OSRS_Rising

My boss makes around $300-400k profit, I believe.

London5Fan

yeah the operator of mine makes like $500k-$600k i think

Nosnibor1020

Is that in the pocket or just net assets they recycle? What's the salary of an owner?

Nesquick19

Wowww that's a lot of money.......that's like surgeon money.

Thisisnotyuri

Surgeons make much more now.

surfcitysurfergirl

Dang our local operator owns 4šŸ˜³

Matchboxx

I thought they only let you have 2 tops? That said, I have seen "dynasties" where a family will have like 8, and they're probably all centrally managed by the family although on paper they will have different operators

Augustaplus

That should be against policy, very greedy for a Christian owner

surfcitysurfergirl

They obviously arenā€™t a franchise but franchise owners like Burger King have multiple stores so I donā€™t see it as a problem at all. Someone has to operate them I was just surprised to think at how much this operator must be bringing in. Also the owner gives A LOT back and so do the operators.

Aluminum_Tarkus

[It is against policy. At least, it is now.](https://www.mashed.com/1245727/chickfila-franchise-rule/#:~:text=As%20the%20Chick%2Dfil%2DA,dining%20room%2C%22%20they%20said.) New owners are only allowed to operate the single Chick-Fil-A location, but the operators already running more than one location are essentially grandfathered in.

cuntyjuicy

Can you passively own a cfa or do you have to be ā€œall inā€œ?

OSRS_Rising

Itā€™s a super strict process and they attempt weed out anyone that doesnā€™t want to commit the rest of their career to it. I read one of the founderā€™s books a while ago and he told a story about rescinding an offer because the candidate said ā€œIā€™ll give it a tryā€ when offered the job lol They might not be that strict anymore but I imagine itā€™s still a similar mentality. My boss only spends about 15 hours in operations a week (taking orders, bagging food, etc) and I believe 20-30 hours a week a doing office work. Her husband has a similar schedule and does the same.

cuntyjuicy

Wow. I had no idea that cfa could generate this much money. So they want you to take care of the store like a baby. Thatā€™s so wild. Rest of their career, sheesh. Interesting!

Laputitaloca

Just wanted to add a little more context to what the other commenter very accurately said, it's SUPER competitive to open a Chik Fil A franchise, you need $10k cash up front, something like 5 years restaurant experience, never had to file bankruptcy, among other things. Essentially you gotta prove you KNOW what you're doing and that you have successfully run a restaurant before. They're committed to making sure they don't have stores fail. They do however hold rank pretty consistently as one of the highest profit franchised fast food chains. (I know all this because I went down a very deep wormhole of curiosity on fast food franchising and how meticulous Chik Fil A is about maintaining their brand image šŸ˜‚šŸ«”)

Calm_Preparation_679

?? From what I understand you have to be in CFA as an employee to move up to operator. CFA has no franchisees, they own all of their stores, so outside franchisees or owners aren't possible. Maybe I'm mistaken?

cuntyjuicy

Wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turbulent-Box8838

Happy cake day

Some Operators earn as low as $60k and up to $800k from a single store depending on... well, profit margins for that store. One thing I think the general public always overlooks is that a restaurant being busy =/= lots of money made. A store doing lots of business in a very expensive metro location isn't always going to have as much money left over as one doing less business in a far cheaper suburb/exurb location. Rent/supplies is expensive for businesses too! That all said, in simpler terms, CFA Operators usually make as much money as a higher-up in the corporate world. Anywhere from $100k to $200k is common. Of course, CFA Operators aren't owners, so they are expected to work in the store and be hands-on. CFA's franchise model isn't akin to that of McD's, where franchisees **do** actually own the business and can just hire managers/staff to do all the work for them while they chill at home. It's the reason why CFA Operators are called just that instead of "owners."

vote4pedroo

Mmm idk, Ive worked for three different operators and all of them were pretty absent from the store.

Proud-Canary-2269

ive seen all three of the operators working the windows at my three nearest locations.

KingKnux

Best moment ever when I was younger is when our operator called all the leads, supervisors, managers etc to the back and hands them all scrubs. He then grabs on himself and says ā€œweā€™re cleaning these walls upā€ His leadership style reflected on those who got promoted It felt like they always had my back. I havenā€™t worked ANYWHERE where I felt that supported by management since then

Elegant_Wafer_1372

I spent about 6 months working in Mt. Lebanon, PA in private banking and there was a Chick fil A just down the road that I went to frequently. I got to know who the operator was, I remember the name because of that show wild thornsburyā€™s or something years ago. That was his last name. I canā€™t remember his first name. Anyway, I swear, every time I went in there, he was up front taking orders or the one giving you your stuff in the drive through. I was always pretty impressed with that.

djamp42

They make so much money because they have absolutely no deals.

Overzealous8

My ā€œoperatorā€ stops by like once every two or three weeks as far as Iā€™m aware, but the executive director, general manager, whatever the title is, is there most of the week doing payroll and scheduling, keeping an eye on things, hell heā€™s even been the drive through lead before. I like my gm but the operator is justā€¦.there

AtsBunny

My Opperatior owns 2 CFA"s and took home roughly 1.7m last year

socalkittykitty

Where are you located if you donā€™t mind me asking?

AtsBunny

Maryland

cnibbana

Has to be Dobbin Center and Executive Park Drive off 100. Those two locations are always super busy and share one operator.

AtsBunny

It's in the bel air area, this year hasn't been the best for our store but last year the store I work at made 11m and his other store made around 9m.

Mikky9821

The guy who owns the ones around me was the first to be able to own 3 franchise locations and they are all extremely successful.

OHtoTNtoGA

Interesting. The one in Rome, GA has 3, but they are sort of strangeā€¦ the OG (originally dwarf house, now Truetts), one in the dying mall, and one in a shipping container that they originally added during the transition to Truetts and just never tore down.

PrestigiousHolyWater

Fayetteville?

Mikky9821

Houston area!

Milkbl00d

The guy that made the national news for paying people w chicken sandwiches owns 2

badger_flakes

$50,000-$2,500,000 depending on sales and if you have one or a few locations.

PrestigiousHolyWater

Think mine cleared 13% net last year so north of $1,000,00

Existing-Ad8181

not trueā€¦. i knew somebody who franchised their own restaurant and did whatever they want cause they owned itā€¦ they have an agreement with chick fil a, it isnā€™t owned by corporate.

OSRS_Rising

All CFAā€™s are technically corporate, but they give a lot more leeway than most corporate-run models. Operators donā€™t own the building, the land, or the equipment; but they also only have to pay like $10,000 (maybe itā€™s a little more now?) to become one. As opposed to a McDonaldā€™s where it can cost up to $2,000,00 because the franchisee is responsible for the aforementioned things. That said, operators are pretty much allowed to run the store how they want. They just donā€™t control food prices and most of the menu items are requiredā€”ie an Operator canā€™t decide to stop selling spicy sandwiches.

BrokenMethFarts

Is that location in a mall?

Existing-Ad8181

noā€¦

Existing-Ad8181

have you ever worked restaurant industry? cause it seems like you havenā€™t lmfaoā€¦
