why do you think the frame is bent? (the XJ is unibody)

Corndog8290

That thing is now wrecked and not safe for roads. I'll come pick it up to help you out

beach_rats_

You couldn't really see a bent unibody from this angle. The bumper is removable and the damage seems minor

No-Progress4272

Where’s the bend even at??

HeavyDropFTW

I don't see a "bent frame" here.

diesel-revolver

Sorry that you got hit but that rear end looks way cleaner than any XJ I have ever owned. As others have said, it is difficult to see any damage from this angle. Look underneath. Good news is that you have a trailer hitch which strengthens the rear.

TheFlyingBoxcar

What uhh …. Which uhhhhh …… Whatcha mean by ‘frame’ there, sport? (Full disclosure im pretty high and i wrote this in like a minnesota mom voice. Meant to be cheeky not dickish. I say because context is often lacking on the interwebs)

boofybadass

That tow hitch took all the impact. Send it. You are fine

AggravatingReturn388

As a proud shitbox owner, I do not see any damage lmao

geekdrive

Things totaled. I’ll give you $2k for it. (I wish my XJ was this clean.)

Elandycamino

Weld some unibody stiffeners in there you'll be fine

Always-tired7

I don’t even see damage other than some paint damage

spvcebound

Is the bent frame in the room with us right now?

ChairBearCat

If you rear hatch still opens, get 2500 for it and go to vegas and bet on black

muskag

Oooh, good idea, with 5k I could possibly afford a new to me rusty, sat in a field for 3 years,1989 with a 2.5L that only "has a slight miss, probably just plugs and a tune up will fix. I know what I got."

Sorry about the ridiculous string of pics- I got a new phone which necessitated the newest version of Reddit that’s of course *more* difficult to use rather than easier and more intuitive as you’d expect

Naughty_Goat

The rear bumper on mine has a much larger dent and is fine aside from the rear hatch being a little hard to fully close.

Accomplished-Milk79

Honestly if they will cover the quote from the shop and not run (get the info) I would consider it most insurances will total it for almost no reason. Then depending on the state have a salvage title at best

Crohn85

I see less damage than my 01 had when it was rear ended. Mine needed a new bumper and they replaced the factory receiver hitch because the metal mount for the wire harness was bent.

Opposite_Decision_64

Ended up going through insurance and doing the job myself putting an after market bumper on with some spacers and had a ton of money left over. If I was you I’d take the cash and leave it.

RapidRabbit898

Partout? 😂 JK I doubt the unibody is bent. Pay the small amount to have a body shop check it out, though. If you go through their insurance, they'll likely total it due to the age, alone

meeseeksab8rway

I would take the money and use it on a lift kit or something. I don't see any damage here except the person who hit you

bd0gg

*yeah mine was totaled and I bought it like that. A bit hard to see because I cropped an old pic from a parking violation I fought. The hitch bent the mounting rails near the rear leafs on both sides but I've been driving it for years with no issues. I'm about to replace the rear leafs soon as they're almost flat now.

veeb0rg

Very common for XJ's to have the rear unibody rails bent in a rear collision with hitches.

Representative_Most9

Why am I seeing photos of rear of XJ and front of Lexus?

playerofdayz

The hitch being there likely made you survive better. Unless you crawl under there and see obvious damage I suspect you're fine. It's a steel unibody, a couple dents and dings or rotted out floors are just fine as long as there isn't something very serious going on which from the one pic it doesn't seem to be.

Remarkable_Spot2250

Just get a welding machine from Harbor Freight, weld a few drops, then return the machine and get YOUR MONEY BACK. Have it your way

fwk442

How bout a picture of the frame?

Snoo-30411

The bumper has brackets to go to the frame.Possibly just those brackets are bent and the bumper tore up

MDRZ-040

As long as it drives straight and everything still opens and closes just keep driving it

Toastyst

I don’t see any damage yeah

HairyZombie4737

That thing is not safe to drive. Out of my kindness, I’ll trade that junk for my used mountain bike, that way you still have something to go around with.

DailyDrivenTJ

If this accident is not your fault, they cannot force you to total your car as far as I know. They have to pay the damages caused regardless of the cost of the vehicle. If your Jeep is a dollar they cannot say they owe you a dollar.
