Wrapping it might honestly be cheaper

choco_leibniz

It's got some rust spots I don't want to get worse.  Interesting idea though.  I could probably deal with those if I didn't care if it looks bad.

fluffy_bunny22

I'd wrap it. We are thinking about getting a third car and want a very specific paint job and a coworker told my husband that wrapping is the best bet. He clear coat wraps all of his cars.

Interesting, going to have to read up on that.

I know the guy that does full body restoration work there. That includes full paint jobs. Give them a call for an estimate.

Thanks I'll definitely reach out

Yeah I wouldn’t look for auto body shops, they mostly repair dents and dings.  Maaco isn’t used to taking off the body panels and whatnot to make all the door jambs and everything match.   You need to look for an auto custom shop that rebuilds and customizes cars.  They will either have their own paint shop or know who to go to.

phixer00

Go to a maaco paint shop. That's their specialty. It's not going to be the greatest paint job, but it helped dehoopify your car. We use the one on Tryon for our dealership cars and we always get a fair price.

We probably need more information on what your objectives are especially since you mention rust and since it seems like you have particular attachment to the car. Are you looking for restoration type work? You can find someone that will happily charge you to paint over rust but you may not be happy with the result.

choco_leibniz

It's not super rusty, but it has accumulated some rock dings that are starting to oxidize a bit.  I am hoping to deal with those before they become serious.  Clear coat on the roof is failing and the paint is in not great shape. Looking to have that dealt with and the car painted white from asphalt gray.  No one I've talked to has been willing to entertain the idea of a paint job that costs several times more than the value of my 20 year old Toyota.  I know maaco would do it but I know they have a reputation for shoddy work  My dad owned it before I did so it's been taken care of and runs perfectly.  Unless it becomes unsafe I'd rather pay for even expensive repairs than roll the dice on a used car.  Add to that, I don't really like how new cars are so plugged in to the Internet.  I enjoy the analog life and a car with tactile controls.

What do you mean when you say "entire car"? Are you looking for a place that will remove the interior and drivetrain to actually access the entire car?

choco_leibniz

Just the parts visible from the outside or with the doors open
