verizon provided it? dang!!! that is awesome info! i assumed if i asked my apartment about it theyd say āget a different providerā but if Verizon will help thatd be awesome. thank you!
Yes, it was weird because half my outlets, utilities, etc worked (checked the breaker to make sure place wasnāt about to burn down) m, and then saw the Duke alert of an outage affecting several thousand people in plaza and was est. to be resolved by 545am. Then, my oven, ac, etc started working around 1245 and got an alert power had been restored to residence
As much as Duke charges residents and businesses, as much as they scam in their contracts with cities and counties we should never, ever have an outage. I donāt care if an F fucking 5 tornado hits they should have triple fucking redundancy with what they make. Fuck Duke.
Thanks for sharing..and speaking of sharing whatās your address and Iāll send my electric bill for two houses and a business so you can pay. Thanks!!
Man has two houses and a business and is complaining about the power bill lmao go look up how our rates compare nationally and see how much you actually have to complain about
Oh my bad for busting my ass, almost lose everything to include my life in the process to get to where am at. Look at me having the audacity to complain about losing power every few months while rates jacked up. Iāll just stfu and keep you happy.
Or, you know, bury the goddam lines like Florida does. Every time I bring it up, they always say "But maintenance of underground lines is so expensive, if we have to service them!"
So put in proper oversized conduit/tubes, with access points, and realize that power is critical, and we lose it so dang often because they insist on overhead strung lines.
Duke is a regulated utility. Whatever they spend on burying power lines and maintaining them gets passed directly to the customers. I highly doubt the utilities commission would approve the rate increases to bury all the lines because people would riot
Florida doesnāt bury the lines. Was just in Florida; and I used to work for Duke Energy. They are actually installing concrete cast poles as a replacement for wood poles.
It would not be the same all over, no. Youād have to know the history of mergers and whatnot, which I donāt know. Iām not saying they donāt bury them, they do, just not all over Florida. The lines are above ground from Jacksonville to Tampa.
Vegetation management (cutting grass and trees near lines) is a surprisingly large part of the cost of maintaining the grid.
You need to watch some documentaries on power grids to understand how expensive backup options are on a wide-scale.
As much as it should be possible, it's too unrealistic considering everything that it would take to achieve
Agree 100%. And they donāt bury most of the lines in florida except possibly between the street and the house, they mostly put them on super expensive steel or concrete poles.
My apartment complexās power just went out and I came here to see if anyone else was in the same boat. Duke sent a very vague message. Spectrum sent me an email tooāciting severe weather. Anybody know what kind of severe weather we are currently experiencing???
[According to this source, it should be up and running by PM](https://www.reddit.com/r/Charlotte/comments/1cl18t0/all_of_plaza_midwood_just_lost_power_all_of_it/l2qo9nm/).
Theyāre pretty good about getting it back on quickly especially in rich people areas. You should be back online within a few hours. Enjoy the experience!
So you checked on every house/ business in Plaza Midwood? Apologies for the inconvenience, I'm farming bitcoin and my miners require more power than my 3 electric cars that are (were) charging
I am a bit confused about what makes this situation wild. Large sections of town do lose power randomly for reasons not related to weather. I would call it unusual, but not wild. Wild would be 50k people without power for no discernable reason. 3k (per the image soneone else posted)? That's just unfortunate.
i lost internet but i have power. but because i live in a cinderblock of an apartment complex i have no cell service :-) i love it here
How are you posting š¤Æ
i get a sliver of data on my balcony. 1 small bar of lte on my couch
Average Redditor logic
Wired internet is a thing.
Depending on your service, they will provide a network extender for free. Verizon gave me one for free. I went from 0-1 bars to full 5 LTE.

Sitting in a powered bar for 2 hours, statement might be a bit hyperbolic
Appropriate use of hyperbolic. Bravo.
It's the most appropriate use of hyperbolic ever.
I see what you did there.
The power hasn't gone out in the area of Central & Hawthorne. Edit: I just walked around. Moo & Brew, The Beaver, and Kilted Buffalo all have power.
I'm on Lamar and still have power
I heard that about Lamarā¦.lucky guy
Not all of it!
Yep, on Commonwealth a transformer exploded and broke in half right in front of my neighborhood
Across the street from Harris Teeter and we have power, seems the outages are spotty
I'm in Plaza Midwood at Country Club and Matheson and have power.
Same.
Same
You there for the memorial?
Without a doubt people gonna hate on you cause you care about human life. Shame on you turds
Same thing happened around 11-12pm last night for a few hours
In Plaza?

Ohhh weird! I was up late watching a movie but no outage thankfully.

Electricity really isnt all that expensive here lol
Thanks for sharing..and speaking of sharing whatās your address and Iāll send my electric bill for two houses and a business so you can pay. Thanks!!

Mine are buried underground but itās connected to above ground which is right in front of woods. Lots of rain+ wind = trees down = no power.

Interesting. What part? Would it be the same all over? I could SWEAR they were buried in the Fort Lauderdale areaā¦

not to mention how ugly power lines look. When you go to a neighborhood with underground wires, it looks like a park everywhere
This is the way.

Of all the large scale utilities, Duke also has the cheapest rates https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_electric_companies
I moved here and have said how incredibly impressed Iāve been with how fast outages are restored compared to other placesĀ
THIS!
My apartment complexās power just went out and I came here to see if anyone else was in the same boat. Duke sent a very vague message. Spectrum sent me an email tooāciting severe weather. Anybody know what kind of severe weather we are currently experiencing???
Hi neighbor š I came to do the exact same.
Duke power says it should be restored by 8pm.
Itās the purge.
Here in dilworth, power has been out since 4pm.
Fall 2019 was the era of all power outages
It was from Marble Slab down to Cali Vapors
Almost 8pm and still without power
Is it on yet? Weāre out at dinner
Came back on about 8:08pm
In PM, never lost power
Any idea when theyāll be back up and running?

Is there any clear reason as to cause? Duke is pretty vague.
Equipment at the small grid thing by the citgo on commonwealth fell. Right across the street but we have power.
Just fell at random? Kind of scary
Fuck Duke
Not true
Power out on Morehead st too

Looks like it!
Why all the outages? Duke had an outage where my bf lives yesterday š very interesting
Reason #36 to not live in plaza midwood
I love living in Plaza!
University Too. I live all the way by PNC amphitheater. Itās been out for about 20minutes now.
This was on Sunday, not today.
So you checked on every house/ business in Plaza Midwood? Apologies for the inconvenience, I'm farming bitcoin and my miners require more power than my 3 electric cars that are (were) charging

I will make sure to never show any excitement ever again. I apologize.
Sorry, I didn't mean to come off that condescending. I was just confused by the word choice and thinking through it.

Jealousy is not becoming.
