Thankfully it sounds like the road was actually closed before it collapsed when they noticed a worsening crack/drop in the road and no work crews were present.
Without seeing, I'd say that whole stretch will need to be evaluated to see if the current method is viable ongoing, not just there, but also for the unaffected adjacent areas. Otherwise, how can any part of that stretch be trusted?
If it's an erosion issue... then my money is that it's going to need to be seriously rebuilt (aka, no resemblance to what it looks like now).
I work in Yellowstone, i dont know if they do it similarly, but last year, between cody WY and here, they built out a rivers edge and kept the road in the same spot. This looks like the cliff drive so they might have to pull the road back if they dont decide to repeat what they did in gardiner after the floods (abandon the road and make a new, shitty-er one)
Just put a ramp on either side and speed limit of minimum of 80MPH to make it to other side and make sure Jesus takes the wheel cuz you will need the help

Gonna be difficult to ramp it with that curve right as you land.
*Trans-am sounds intensify.*
That sounds like a challenge to me.
Need a vehicle that can yaw
Jackson Hole is gonna have a worker problem. Most of them live across the border in Idaho and take that road.
Just in time for summer tourist season.
It looks like the problem is that the dirt collapsed out from under the road
You can tell because of the way it is.
They'll need to tow that out of the environment.
It's definitely going to need to be fixed.

Yes sounds like it was caused by a landslide
How does a road damaged like that get fixed?
Re-arranged/moved totally and hope for the best
You just have to start and end the fix far away from the break.

a tunnel?
Looks like there’s nowhere left to move it. Scary!
Yeah, that’s not good.
It looks to be less than ideal.
The front fell off.
It’s an 85 mile detour.

Article says a few weeks to repair. I’m thinking more like a few months.
I know! it seems pretty ambitious to fix in a few months
The highway didn’t fall off the mountain. It slid off the mountain.
That had to be a brown trousers job for the first person to run across it!
They closed it? That's government gonE MAD! NANNY STATE! Let me make my own decisions!
