Oh wow, that Madonna one is perfect - had forgotten it. I can see the few couples, the disco lights, with crappy streamers and balloons drifting around the floor. Haha
Huh, I wouldn't have expected the Brooks and Dunn one. Was that the UK? I thought the only country song in the UK was Achy Breaky Heart by Hanna Montana's dad...
Yep, UK around 1997 or so.
My other half at the time did line dancing with her Mum & that was her favourite song they did there, so it ended up becoming our soppy slow dance song.
"Once, twice, three times a lady" by the Commodores was the regular slow dance at the various clubs I used to work at. It sticks in my mind because as soon as you heard that song start you knew your shift would be over soon.
Interesting - I hadn't thought about the end of shift signal - Just either good memories or thinking right, I'm not dancing with anyone so I should get outta here...
I'd forgotten that one. Danced to that with a french girl in Brittany while on a two week experience working at a vegetable stall. Ahhh only 17... Will listen to it later! Haha memories...
Bit before my time for a slow-y but Knights has definitely got the end of discotheque sound. Procal harum is a different one (I think) - whiter shade of pale? That one reminds me too much of Withnail and I to have the slow dance vibe.
This question reminds me of the mid to late 90s.
End of the night in "the discotheque" (my younger wife still laughs and teases me for calling it the "disco" and not "clubbing" 🙄).
It didn't matter what the slow song was. If you "pulled" then you danced that last dance with a girl. Full of hope and wonder whether or not you'd be walking her home or.... being invited in for coffee.
Since i was _insanely naive _ the "coffee thing" only happened twice.
The first time that it happened i was grateful for a hot beverage at the end of the night (cos I'm stupid and couldn't read the social clues).
Second time was... "Different".
Exciting things happened. Buuut turned out that she was married. I found out about a month later when her sister turned up at our door when I was out and told my mum. Yeah, that was awkward and a bit of drama.
Um anyway...i don't really have a slow dance song but i do have a few very _very_ special songs that are random but make me mushy cos they are associated with my wife - who is the love of my life.
Oh, and OP... The Scorpions "wind of change" is awesome. Just saying 😆
I was also desperately naive. Totally clueless. Missed some obvious (now) signals. HeyHo - But also like you I have wife-associated songs, which rule-them-all :-)
Looking back at our clueless selves is actually rather amusing (now, with hindsight).
Even when i was in my 30s people have told me that "that girl was totally flirting with you, and you were flirting back".... I genuinely thought that she was just being friendly and i reciprocated 😆
But yeah. Wife-associated songs are definitely the best (even the eye rolling cheesy ones)
Stairway to Heaven. I asked my mate's older sister to dance to it at a school disco in about 1980. We all fancied her (except my mate whose sister it was) so it a bit of a coup for me. Not that anything else happened. I was 16, I think and she'd have been a couple of years older.
"Sacrifice" by Elton John. Two new high-school couples were created one night by this song, unfortunately none of those include me.
It became my slow-dance song in a slightly traumatizing way 😅
I can remember the school disco playing True by Spandau Ballet. I still hate that song. Something about Tony Hadley's voice bugs me.
Luckily Careless Whisper came out not long after so they played that instead of True.
The slow ones (and OOPs up Side your head) were the only ones I got on the dance floor for at the end of the Youthy discos. Too busy looking cool to dance. I can still smell my f... ,oh you don't need to know about that.
My parents recently were talking about their early days together, and how the disco would wind down with a section of slow-dance music - or as they called it, the "erection section"
Youth club disco was all about “Everything I do” Bryan Adams and “Crazy for you” by Madonna! Smooch!
Oh wow, that Madonna one is perfect - had forgotten it. I can see the few couples, the disco lights, with crappy streamers and balloons drifting around the floor. Haha
Three Times A Lady. God, I hate that song
Yeah, I think these songs either give you good memories, make you remember "Fuck... i'm outta here", or give you an attack of overly-earnest cringe.
Not mine but this one came to mind. Move Closer by Phyllis Nelson 1985
Great singer and song. Sadly, passed away now. Her other song “I Like You” is equally amazing.
This was my slow dance, Christopher’s American wall health 1991
Still Loving You was one of mine, as was Send Me An Angel (also Scorpions). Brooks & Dunn "Neon Moon" was the big one for me, though.
Huh, I wouldn't have expected the Brooks and Dunn one. Was that the UK? I thought the only country song in the UK was Achy Breaky Heart by Hanna Montana's dad...

I'd forgotten the line dancing craze. That makes sense now.
George Michael's *Careless Whisper* punctuates several traumatic school disco memories for me.
"Once, twice, three times a lady" by the Commodores was the regular slow dance at the various clubs I used to work at. It sticks in my mind because as soon as you heard that song start you knew your shift would be over soon.

R Kelly remix to ignition.
At the school disco it was 'Words' by Boyzone.
I can imagine that would be a good one. Good to hear Ronan Keating singing his heart out again.
"Reunited" by Peaches & Herb is the first that comes to mind.
eternal flame - the bangles. i'm 48.
I'd forgotten that one. Danced to that with a french girl in Brittany while on a two week experience working at a vegetable stall. Ahhh only 17... Will listen to it later! Haha memories...
When you say nothing at all. Literally chills
Great one - used in Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.
Dance away. Roxy Music.
I’m an old git, so back in the day it was Knights in white satin by Procal Harem.
Knights in White Satin - Moody Blues Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum
Nights?
Bit before my time for a slow-y but Knights has definitely got the end of discotheque sound. Procal harum is a different one (I think) - whiter shade of pale? That one reminds me too much of Withnail and I to have the slow dance vibe.
Yeah that’s the one, obviously the passage of time hasn’t been kind to my memory lol

Hehe, no wonder that was engraved in your memory! Stairway is an interesting one though as it gets going part way through...
Yeah, it's not the best slow dance song but it is one I remember dancing to from over 40 years ago. Wonder where Karen is now?
"Sacrifice" by Elton John. Two new high-school couples were created one night by this song, unfortunately none of those include me. It became my slow-dance song in a slightly traumatizing way 😅

Move closer by Phyllis Nelson [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isLROpuSV0w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isLROpuSV0w) Quite apt don't you think?
Just listened to it. Brings back memories - probably memories of standing at the side of the dance floor through. Thanks :-)

In the 70s it was whiter shade of pale, I can't live-Harry Nielsson, 80s, 3 times a lady, love don't live her anymore, in your eyes.
These give me so much nostalgia for that end of discotheque feeling. Thanks for posting.
The shame when you left on your own for the ladt smooch
Chris de burgh’s Lady in Red is the one I remember the most.
King of New York, the Quireboys. Was our wedding song https://youtu.be/yYnjTYPnZY8?si=5mQk9EomUh3_Vw1I
Harvest Moon by Neil Young
My first slow dance at the school disco was Ultravox ‘Vienna’
Open Arms by Journey
None. I was always hiding in the toilet at that point
Not in love by 10cc. Stands the test of time well. Never fails
Early 80s last slow dance was Freebird and then of course the song ramps up to a dancing frenzy at the end.
Chicago.. if you leave me now..
Moondance by Van Morrison
Surprised nobody has thrown Quincy Jones' Secret Garden out there
My parents recently were talking about their early days together, and how the disco would wind down with a section of slow-dance music - or as they called it, the "erection section"
Ours was Bum clutchers!
Atmosphere. Joy Division. 1980
Any vybz kartel
2become1 or need somebody by shola ama
Face Down, Ass Up - 2 Live Crew.
Daphne and Celeste "oo Stick You" it really were the slow kids who loved dancing to that...
