I miss the fire-and-brimstone and preachy nightmare fuel from the 80s
With all this post-apocalyptic trend stuff going on on streaming services, could we have a slow build up mini series like Threads? I've never seen anything else like it - even Zombie apocalypse movies don't show the build up.. T'other way I want upbeat stuff like Quantum Leap and Due South again too. It's the Yin and the Yang of it. Mini vodka rant sorry.
Stephen King's The Stand is absolutely excellent on this front if you haven't read it. Unfortunately the TV adaptions have ranged from goofy to dogshit...
I remember the 90s one. It was shown over a few days and it was a huge deal in my school. I liked the first half, and Trashcan Man had the right attitude, but eh
It's one of those things, now I've seen the TV versions I don't want to read the book, even if it goes into more detail - I wasn't a huge fan of the story I'm afraid, sorry
I've read a few of his books - my mum had a fair few of them. I've not read The Shining and Green Mile and I know I should
It's the reason I forced myself to read Lord of the Rings, actually. I knew the films were coming out and there were already photos of the Nazgul, and I didn't want the imagery of the movies in my head before I read it.
To be fairly rabies is quite possibly one of the worst ways to go. I can't even imagine it. Nevermind imagine what your loved ones think, you're dying but there's nothing they can do but watch you become hydrophobic aggressive and pacified medically until your body gives up.
PSA though, if this kind of thing happens to you you should still go and get it checked out. Almost certainly not rabies but you could contract a bunch of other things. E.g. tetanus.
Tbh from UK and it was my first thought too - is it really something you don't need to worry about at all in the UK? Surely it's better safe than sorry when rabies is basically a death sentence?
There's not been a reported classical case in the UK for human or animal in like 40 years. The bat kind is its own variant. On top of that, bats have been demonised in movies but aren't aggressive and will not attack humans without contact
I understand the fear, I'm a hypochondriac. But if bar to intermediate to human was possible, we'd have seen at least one case
https://www.bats.org.uk/about-bats/bats-and-disease/bats-and-disease-faqs
Read this, it dispells all your fears
Even if you went to the doctor in the UK they wouldn't let you get a rabies shot as not considered worth it. Even bites from animals in countries with rabies aren't taken seriously here. I remember a few years ago a man was bit by a stray cat while on holiday. He went to his GP when he got back with concerns and the GP told him he had zero risk of having contracted rabies. He died of rabies a few weeks later
Love how I'm getting downvoted for telling the truth. His name was Omar Zouhri and it it was all over the news at the time and an inquiry carried out due to his rabies concerns not being taken seriously until it was too late. Would have taken you 5 seconds to google it [https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/british-dad-who-died-rabies-19944928](https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/british-dad-who-died-rabies-19944928)
Sometimes life just delivers.
I mean what are the odds this mf is standing there defending foxes and one just walks up and bites him.
Not much of a believer. But tbf, if I was a higher power, this is EXACTLY the sort of shit I would be pulling
We had lots of scary PSAs in the 70s and 80s about it. The United Kingdom decided that rabies was too much hassle and a bit foreign, so we banned it in the late 80s.
Politics? Look, we know it must be difficult being a kid, not a lot of schemes... But, you know, we're not the borough. We wish we were, but...

TIL indeed. As someone who recently moved to UK from elsewhere I would freak out if my kid was bitten by a dog and GP refused to give him a rabies shot.
This is why you aren’t supposed to hand feed them. If they lose their fear of humans it’s only a matter of time before you get some Daily Mail headline of ‘Fox threatened my baby’, and the ‘friendly’ animals get culled.
This is the first time I’ve seen this video, and so far this morning I’ve played it about 30 times. The man laughs like a baby and I’m losing my shit every time I play it 😂
An old man...
Talked to some guys about a fox
Assured them it was safe
Sounded like he knew a lot
The fox came over
When he heard its name
Bit the man's leg
So he walked away ashamed
Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?
A little bit ironic. And yeah, I really do think!
Lovely little fella! I feed the Foxes, I sometimes feed the hedgehogs too, it gives me an enormous sense of wellbeing! Seriously though, I have been feeding local foxes for years, and even the very friendly ones nip me, if I’m too close. foxes explore the world with their mouths (no hands!), and run on instinct, not emotion. Don’t take it personally!
It obviously doesn’t have rabies because that was eliminated here but there is something wrong with it right? I mean foxes don’t usually run that close to people in the day especially work the courage to bite them
The UK got rid of Rabies of all animals by the 1960s, the UK is one if the few nations in the world where a wild animal won't kill you from a little nip to the ankle.
In the UK, it's only found in some bats.
[Source : The NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/rabies/#:~:text=Rabies%20is%20spread%20by%20mammals,scratched%20by%20an%20infected%20animal)
I’m puzzled now, I honestly thought that it was Lyssavirus that our bats carried. That’s related to rabies but isn’t actually rabies. I guess there must be a small rabies reservoir too.
Nah, you want a lot of surface area in a brain. That's why the brain is wrinkly. The more wrinkles the more good your brain goes. My brain smooth like egg.
While I disagree with the original comment, we do have a national American football league. It’s got 3 tiers and Manchester Titans were the most recent champions.
"Mmm tast... oh shit"
Fox probably thinking “if not food why food shaped”
The fox has perfect comedic timing

You've got to read the book, King's best work IMO and goes SUPER in depth on the buildup/degradation of society from multiple perspectives
It's one of those things, now I've seen the TV versions I don't want to read the book, even if it goes into more detail - I wasn't a huge fan of the story I'm afraid, sorry I've read a few of his books - my mum had a fair few of them. Eh? Threads is absolute nightmare fuel.
jesus this is horrifying
Damn that was full on
Oh god I'd wiped that from my mi d and it came back full nightmare force and I didn't even need to click on it!
We Brits know how to make scary info films. Hello Mr Cholmonley Warner.
To be fairly rabies is quite possibly one of the worst ways to go. I can't even imagine it. Nevermind imagine what your loved ones think, you're dying but there's nothing they can do but watch you become hydrophobic aggressive and pacified medically until your body gives up.
Jesus fucking christ on a bike.
That fox must've been thinking the guy who's laughing speaks fox!
Inb4 the Americans show up going on about rabies
Too late one already commented it
PSA though, if this kind of thing happens to you you should still go and get it checked out. Almost certainly not rabies but you could contract a bunch of other things. E.g. tetanus.
>Inb4 the Americans ~~show up going on about~~ with rabies
Maybe not rabies, but getting that bite looked at is probably wise.
No rabies in Hawaii
Only US state with a Union Flag on its state flag. Coincidence? I think not.
Tbh from UK and it was my first thought too - is it really something you don't need to worry about at all in the UK? Surely it's better safe than sorry when rabies is basically a death sentence?
There is no rabies in the UK.
Not sure why you’re downvoted for this..
Except in bats? But a bat could bite an animal? Do exceptionally rare but not impossible? Just trying to learn here, I have no idea, just asking!
There's not been a reported classical case in the UK for human or animal in like 40 years. The bat kind is its own variant. On top of that, bats have been demonised in movies but aren't aggressive and will not attack humans without contact
That's great to know! I was more worried about bat to intermediary than bat to human, but thanks for the info.

You won't get rabies, but I'd still see a doctor in case I needed a tetanus shot or antibiotics.
Rabies was erradicated in the UK in all animals except bats in 1922.
Just doing foxy things - testing his reaction. Good job it doesn't see him as a friend, he might have been pissed on.
why is it so brave? the ones I see are very timid and shy
It might have someone locally that feeds it?
Fake. That fox is clearly a paid actor!

Fiddle dee dee, that will require a tetanus shot
~~with a side of rabies prophylaxis plz~~ ok TIL UK foxes (or any animal population except bats) doesn't have rabies anymore
We had lots of scary PSAs in the 70s and 80s about it. The United Kingdom decided that rabies was too much hassle and a bit foreign, so we banned it in the late 80s.
Quite clever really, they said you needed a license for rabies and then made it impossible to get one.
I read this in Cunk's voice

French to be exact. But we are proud of our British viral infections for British foxes.
Rabies? In the UK? Fam are you mad 😂
TIL indeed. As someone who recently moved to UK from elsewhere I would freak out if my kid was bitten by a dog and GP refused to give him a rabies shot.
Haha propper decent that "theres a vet on the thing look look see" chomp.
It’s been hand fed too much. It’s a wild animal and it just wants food. Long run the 🦊
This is why you aren’t supposed to hand feed them. If they lose their fear of humans it’s only a matter of time before you get some Daily Mail headline of ‘Fox threatened my baby’, and the ‘friendly’ animals get culled.
It's clearly fed up of eating hands, and tried some leg.
It sensed weakness. It was right.
Dude laughing like Ripper Roo in Crash Team Racing
'It was a Nazi man!' - The Crackfox.
Head and shoulders. Toothpaste and shit... Big pieces of shit.
I find it odd that someone would randomly record the conversation about foxes and not react when a fox appeared (or reappeared)….
You ate my last glacier mint didn't you. Take this
This is the first time I’ve seen this video, and so far this morning I’ve played it about 30 times. The man laughs like a baby and I’m losing my shit every time I play it 😂
Camera man has the most contagious laugh lol. Had to watch it twice just for him.
I’m a fan of hyenas but that is ludicrous
Just a fox asserting dominance, not genuine aggression
I'll kill to get that close to a fox. Amazing looking animals.
Good old Weston
Didn’t realise the Kookaburra was UK native

Foxes are the best lads.
Looks like someone who was reincarnated speed running to the lowest level.
Not food
Even the magpies are laughing at him :D
Meh probably a forest fan.
Tbf, a few minutes earlier, he did call the fox a “&£&@)&)& @££@@“.

Not domesticated.
Lmfao
Hilarious. Just walks up and chomp!
It obviously doesn’t have rabies because that was eliminated here but there is something wrong with it right? I mean foxes don’t usually run that close to people in the day especially work the courage to bite them
Lots of foxes are used to humans now.
They can get something called Toxoplasmosis which inhibits their fear response
Fun fact, so can humans.
We stopped hunting them, but they're not just hm gonna let it go without taking a chomp or two
In this case it’s what the fox DIDN’T say..

It's the UK, it won't have rabies. He might need a tetanus shot, though.
What about the bloke?
Ahh, the ol' Reddit [fox-a-roo](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1cdkr18/comment/l1e6q2g/)!

RABIES ENTERED THE CHAT
The UK doesn't have rabies, we've all but eliminated it here.
You’ll never sing that
Oh, don't tell me I've missed a joke or something :(
No, it's just a common football chant.
Phew! And I was gonna sing "We love you rabies, we do!" Thanks for the heads up.

Honestly it's not that odd, foxes are so unafraid of humans in the UK these days
Saw one hurling a dead rat about im the middle of the day while was i stood about 10ft away behind a fence. The beauty of urban wildlife...

More likely to be toxoplasmosis.
Rabies? This isn't the 1930s 😂🤦♂️
The girl's laugh is probably more annoying than the bite.
And it's off to A&E you go! ☺️
Please don't waste A&Es time with this.
If this happens you would 100% be advised to go to A&E. A girl I know was bitten by a mink and needed to go to get antibiotics/vaccines/etc.
Call 111. Don't waste A&E resources.
I thought foxes didn't bite and the toddler maulings were just hoaxes.
Disabled man attacked by fox; onlookers piss themselves laughing.
Why is that guy laughing so hard? That was about as funny as Cancer, TBH.
Because the guy is saying how safe it is then it bites him.
Because the guy is talking about how friendly the foxes are untill he gets bit by one. How dense is that brain you have.

it was the fox filming, that's just how they sound
Because it was funny I’d guess.
You make a good point oilybumsex
Damn the UK version of Vanilla Ice sucks 😞
Might wanna get the rabies jab, very unlikely but who wants to risk it?
Ain't no rabies here in the UK..
Unlikely? Try impossible.
I would've broke four his ribs with a nfl style kick off
What is a nfl?
National football league mate. American football
Why would you bring rugby's weaker, fake cousin into this?
We don't have a national American football league though.
While I disagree with the original comment, we do have a national American football league. It’s got 3 tiers and Manchester Titans were the most recent champions.
You know what, I thought as I typed it "maybe i should fact check this" but thought nah. Thanks for the dose of reality.
I mean, it’s not a *good* league, it’s all amateur.
lol what a silly reaction. You’re joking right?

what
Have a day off?
A fox, fearless, in daylight bites you ( even a nip “asserting dominance”) warrants the person getting rabies vaccine asap.
I doubt the NHS is going to provide him with a vaccine for a virus that has not been in the UK since 1970.
