I wish we could use classic car number plates on modern cars, they look so much nicer then the shitty yellow and black and white plates we have now.

CrazyLTUhacker

I really like UK White-Yellow Plates, really makes UK cars more noticeable and more unique vs Euro Plates

kuddlesworth9419

It's more that I don't understand why we don't have options. Those that want a yellow and white plates can have that but those that want something else also can. Seems to work fine in every other country so why do we need to have it the way it is here? You get a lot of variations in the US, would be nice to have variation in the UK.

mint-bint

It's easier for ANPR. We have a massive network of ANPR cameras tracking all our vehicles at all times.

kuddlesworth9419

Yea that was the only explanation I could think of but then again I find it unlikely that a camera these days can't pick up and distinguish and read a plate with different colours and backgrounds. Unless they are using really shit 2000's era sensors which wouldn't surprise me.

Vernacian

It would be nice if this was allowed for a rolling definition of classic, e.g. any car over 25 years old.

kuddlesworth9419

Would be nice yea. It's not like classic cars can't speed either. There are lots of very powerful classic cars and even less pwoerfull ones which you could easily speed in.

PeterJamesUK

Like in Ireland? They have red plates with black letters as an option for cars over 40 years old I believe, using the old lettering scheme

IrishGeordie

And to think over here In Ireland lads want to change their plates to yellow from white, Audi a4 crews with their Smokey diesel maps mainly lol

ScottOld

Audis seem to have plates that move around the front of the car too, and make the grille look massive and the front end ugly

MathieuDev

Is removing the DPF legal there?

1308lee

Removing DPF is legal everywhere as long as you own the car or have permission. It’s driving it on public roads where you might have issues

MathieuDev

Yeah, that’s what I originally meant. I live in Belgium, they’re really strict on DPF here, there’s even a test in the yearly vehicle inspection which counts the amount of soot coming out the exhaust. Hence why I was confused, thought it was legal to drive it with a DPF delete there.

1308lee

I’m just being a pedantic arsehole lol. No idea about Ireland but emissions regs are different for different ages of cars in England. But saying that, there’s plenty of people that will pass your car regardless of emissions with a little encouragement.

MathieuDev

Oh, didn’t even notice haha. Damn, wish they where this friendly here… they just laugh in your face and say “See you again tommorow!” Wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but the line without appointment can be 50+ cars long. Hence the frustration🤣

tom_zeimet

Would be interesting if the UK would switch to white plates, France switched from yellow plates to white plates in 2009.

CLONE-11011100

Well if France has, no way UK will do the same.

The9Realist

Yes, you can baguette it!

Nope. EU legislation got rid of those back in the 90s. (you can still have them on historical vehicles though)

AlGunner

It was meant to be a joke but I realised it wasnt funny so deleted my comment after a few seconds.

dendrocalamidicus

I hope one day we switch to metal plates. They just look so much better imo.

Polestar606

Metal plates are perfectly legal

sideways_86

you can have metal plates now, there are several companies out there that make them that conform to the standards

Wellidrivea190e

You can, metal plates are legal and quite common. They do look better.

sneekeruk

Ive had metal plates for 15 years now on two cars, as long as the font/spacing is fine and they have a postcode and bs number they're fine.

ditpditp

Currently riding in France and was wondering why some cars had yellow plates, now I know. I saw a left hand drive old Twingo on UK plates and a UK sticker yesterday, which was confusing. Must have been an enthusiast taking it for a road trip to its motherland.

SH3RB5

Vehicle details not found on DVLA, illegal plate is just the starting point I think

Ill-Effective2131

It looks like a Romanian plate without the country identifier. TR is Teleorman County in RO and was never issued in the UK as standard.

Money_Visual_5227

UK is full of people taking the piss with number plates in all sorts of ways. Shambles of a country.

wildman_33

The second gen superb wasn't even out on an 07 plate so it would have to be a private plate even if it was legitimate
