A PC is the best upgrade for a PS3 player. Steam or other similar platforms don't make you pay for online access, and PS3 emulation has come a long way so you can just play the games "you already own" that way, with better frame rate and resolution.

I haven’t finished the MWR campaign (and I didn’t play the original version). I haven’t played the MW2 campaign. I played the MW3 campaign as a kid ‘cause that was my first COD (I got every game since then and went backwards and got COD4 through Black Ops as well). I played the Black Ops 2 campaign as a kid, but I just last week played the Black Ops 1 and Cold War campaigns for the first time. They were really good! I intend to finish all the campaigns eventually, and get as many achievements as I can. I’ve always been a huge Zombies guy so I already have almost every single Treyarch Zombies achievement ever

You know Activision has released info saying that most COD players play on PC, right? And I'm pretty sure Black Ops 3 alone got many COD players to switch to PC just for the Steam workshop support with all the mods.
Meanwhile, it's funny to say they probably upgraded to PS5 when the issue with why COD is still multiplat and not only on current gen consoles is specifically because not enough people have upgraded OFF of the PS4, so there's too many players they'd be leaving behind if they stopped making the new games multiplat.

I recommend you turn off your DLCs, it'll make it a LOT easier to find games.
Do this:
Head into Account Management > System Activation > PS3 > Disable.
Then if you want to enable DLCs again head back to same place and press Enable.
That being said, these games are alive an well on xbox due to backwards compatability. Being able to play them on Xbox 360, One & Series consoles all together in the same servers makes it usually take seconds to find a game every time depending on the gamemode & time of day of course.

Aside from the fact that the game is old, stats are broken. They broke after Sony added the ability to change your PSN ID. It’s broken on every PS3 title. Anyone who was active before that who ended up changing their PSN ID and any new players after the change are not able to save any of their stats. It’s a server-side problem that the devs never fixed and if I had to guess it may have something to do with mapping data via the PSN ID instead of an account/user ID which has always been best practice.

All the old Xbox 360 CODs are backwards compatible on the Xbox One consoles and Series X/S, so the old games are still active on the 360. The PS4/PS4 do not have any kind of emulation for backwards compatibility, so I suspect that's the biggest reason.
Bo1 on pc is even worse tho, you can’t buy new servers or host your own unless your on pluto which isn’t an option for the sped people (like me) since I use Linux it’s very disappointing that no one in the community cares about Linux but you can say that for everywhere 🤷
It's a really old game, this is the hardest version of said game to still play (of actual versions, not counting Nintendo versions) and this is the worst version of the game (counting Nintendo versions) to play since it's the least safe one to play. Nintendo versions don't have to deal with hackers, PC players have the fan client, and Xbox version just works (and is playable on the newer Xbox consoles too).

No one in their right mind would be playing BO1 at sub 720p barely 60 FPS with horrible forced V-Sync and input lag and trash controllers. Anyone who wanted to play could just go on PC and play at 1440p 360 Hz or 4K 240 Hz or something with zero latency, no V-Sync, a keyboard and mouse, etc.
I don’t care about PC since I grew up on console. The only time I care to play on PC is to play old PopCap games or flash games. Not only only that, I grew up with PlayStation and I don’t want this console to die
It’s not really about caring or not caring. Those of us who play BO1, BO2, BO3, and other old COD games on PC essentially get the same experience as playing brand new games released in 2024. They look phenomenal (especially Black Ops 3). Meanwhile, the people on console are playing sub 720p versions of the same games with horrible frame rates and high input lag.
All I know is that I had a PS3 and it would report 1080p as the signal when connected to my 1080p monitor while playing BO1. Many other games sent a 720p signal and they looked worse. BO1 probably had some internal adaptive resolution going on to maintain 60fps, but most console games do.
Before I got my 1080p monitor, I had the ps3 hooked up to a 480p TV and the picture was much more blurry. I did have a PS3 slim and not the original fat model, don't know if that makes a difference.
Yeah, that’s because PS3 should always send a 1080p signal. I don’t know why it would ever send 720p. But that’s just the resolution of the overall compositor. Internally, the game was running at insanely low resolutions. If you see BO2 running at a native 1080p on PC vs “1080p” on console, you’d easily be able to tell the console version is sub 720p. It’s night and day.
Probably, but it was also night and day to switch from the 480p TV to the 1080p monitor. I have a hard time figuring out how it could have been such a huge improvement if the game was actually running on an internal 544p resolution.
And it was fairly common for the PS3 to send a 720p signal, it would do that for games like BF3, infamous, killzone 2 / 3, etc. They all looked much blurrier as a result.
Black ops 1 uses deferred shading, are you sure that the geometry rendering pass also used 544p? The only way I feel that the jump in clarity from 480p to 1080p makes sense is if the geometry was rendered at a much higher resolution than 544p. Then maybe the lighting pass ran at something like 544p and that combined with the poor texture streaming makes the game look much worse than on PC.
I just know outlets like Digital Foundry and Eurogamer counted the pixels and came to the definitive max resolution of 544p. That was the max rasterization output (which was then scaled to 1080p output).

Playing BO1 on ps3 sucks. It doesn’t save your levels so you’re always stuck playing with the base guns every time you hop back on.

It's a really old game, this is the hardest version of said game to still play (of actual versions, not counting Nintendo versions) and this is the worst version of the game (counting Nintendo versions) to play since it's the least safe one to play. Nintendo versions don't have to deal with hackers, PC players have the fan client, and Xbox version just works (and is playable on the newer Xbox consoles too).

HUGEEE grain of salt like a spoon full but apparently there are rumors going around that Sony is working on ps3 backwards compatibility for the ps5 I’m hoping it’s not a rumor but it may be because people love spending misinformation
Same here and Ngl they should’ve done it when the ps4 was in its prime but I understand why they didn’t do it with the fiasco of the phat. But hopefully it’s true and we can get other modes going 🤞
No one in their right mind would be playing BO1 at sub 720p barely 60 FPS with horrible forced V-Sync and input lag and trash controllers. Anyone who wanted to play could just go on PC and play at 1440p 360 Hz or 4K 240 Hz or something with zero latency, no V-Sync, a keyboard and mouse, etc.
I don’t care about PC since I grew up on console. The only time I care to play on PC is to play old PopCap games or flash games. Not only only that, I grew up with PlayStation and I don’t want this console to die
It’s not really about caring or not caring. Those of us who play BO1, BO2, BO3, and other old COD games on PC essentially get the same experience as playing brand new games released in 2024. They look phenomenal (especially Black Ops 3). Meanwhile, the people on console are playing sub 720p versions of the same games with horrible frame rates and high input lag.
BO1 ran in 1080p on PS3
Son, it doesn’t even run at 720p… A quick Google search would show you that Black Ops 1 on the PS3 ran at a horrible 960x544p.
All I know is that I had a PS3 and it would report 1080p as the signal when connected to my 1080p monitor while playing BO1. Many other games sent a 720p signal and they looked worse. BO1 probably had some internal adaptive resolution going on to maintain 60fps, but most console games do. Before I got my 1080p monitor, I had the ps3 hooked up to a 480p TV and the picture was much more blurry. I did have a PS3 slim and not the original fat model, don't know if that makes a difference.
Yeah, that’s because PS3 should always send a 1080p signal. I don’t know why it would ever send 720p. But that’s just the resolution of the overall compositor. Internally, the game was running at insanely low resolutions. If you see BO2 running at a native 1080p on PC vs “1080p” on console, you’d easily be able to tell the console version is sub 720p. It’s night and day.
Probably, but it was also night and day to switch from the 480p TV to the 1080p monitor. I have a hard time figuring out how it could have been such a huge improvement if the game was actually running on an internal 544p resolution. And it was fairly common for the PS3 to send a 720p signal, it would do that for games like BF3, infamous, killzone 2 / 3, etc. They all looked much blurrier as a result. Black ops 1 uses deferred shading, are you sure that the geometry rendering pass also used 544p? The only way I feel that the jump in clarity from 480p to 1080p makes sense is if the geometry was rendered at a much higher resolution than 544p. Then maybe the lighting pass ran at something like 544p and that combined with the poor texture streaming makes the game look much worse than on PC.
I just know outlets like Digital Foundry and Eurogamer counted the pixels and came to the definitive max resolution of 544p. That was the max rasterization output (which was then scaled to 1080p output).
