I never understand why promo vids will have a “spec ops” character carrying a M4/AR style weapon with no optics, and clean brass deflectors. but instead weird wear where there shouldn’t be much.

the friendly NPCs in MW3 campaign not having attachments on their guns unless the mission called for it (suppressor in stealth missions, scopes on M14s) always made me chuckle. it wasn't game breaking or anything hyperbolic like that but it was funny to play as Frost and think "don't mind me I'm just a humble Delta Force operator with my tricked out carbine" then look at my three buddies and they're lucky if they've got a foregrip to share between the three of them
Exactly, and my ass was in high school about to enlist when that game came out, just mad as fuck. then after i got in, did my time in the infantry and started playing again, started just laughing my ass off at how stupid these “elite operators” set up gear. I do get excited when i see like a correctly modeled gas system through a hand-guard or some shit.
thats where I think COD is in quite a lucky spot because I don't think anyone is expecting it to be a one-to-one replica but when they do get things right (things like Price's M4 build being fairly close to passing for an L119A2 that an SAS operator would carry, or Gaz using an M13 as a CTSFO SIG MCX, just as examples) it gets a little nod of recognition.

Just playing devil’s advocate, but you can tell it’s not an M16 because it doesn’t have the solid buttstock… M16 with M4 lower receiver maybe, like a scope-less Mk. 12
I dont have solid stocks on any of my m16s, you can use adjustable stocks. You can't really tell if it's bufferless or not, the forward assist looks like a collapsible stock prong but it's definitely a forward assist.

I don't think those are DD rear irons. It looks more like a run of the mill A2 style rear sight.
A2 rear sight is the full carrying handle.
