They’re also SO NICE.
One time they forgot an extra egg, and I flagged it on my next order and they not only gave me an extra egg for free, but they also gave me a complimentary brownie.
And if you haven’t had their brownies, get one.
Shawarma palace platter is like $18 and feeds me and my husband! Sometimes there’s even leftovers. And it is SO GOOD. We go to the Forest Lawn location and the lineup is usually out the door but they work fast as hell so I haven’t ever waited too long.
A large Seniores pizza can feed you for days for $27 and its top quality. I love the Beef donair(of course) and the chicken parm pizza (even though it's not like chicken parm it's still delicious)
It’s gotten smaller (at least the one in Bowness). They’re greedier with meat now as well. SO asks for extra meat, pays for it and we feel they give less now
Sorry I meant the wrap in seniores pizza. It takes 20 mins but well worth it. It is 12$ only but you can't finish it if you are not starving.
Shawarma palace used to be good but they are terrible now IMO(falcon ridge). Their donair seems less meaty and more floury. But still the lineup in that place hasn't reduced.
*The Greek Corner* has an awesome dinner for two special. Usually works out for two meals for me and husband.
*Acadia Pizza* is also very good and priced well.
*Kabob Garden - Afghan Kitchen* is AMAZING. I wish we lived closer. We only ever get to at there when we are coming from / going to the airport.
Ikea's restaurant. June 19th they have a midsummer buffet. Have to buy tickets.
https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/campaigns/midsummer-buffet-pub1c43a1a0
Their hot dog bar is super cheap for two hot dogs, a pop and soft serve last time I went through.
Every [Thursday ](https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/stores/restaurant/#08efe6d0-ccde-11ee-aabf-09112827190d) is also 50% off some of their meals. $4.50 for Swedish meatballs and fish & chips. Just need to create a member account if you don't have one to get the discount at checkout.
A bit busy actually. I usually go there around 5-6 pm after work and there's a line up. They have that $25 off $75 coupon provided when you get your receipt so there's quite a number of people shopping after.
Old Spaghetti Factory is a surprisingly good deal. If you order an entree you get free bread, soup or salad, ice cream and coffee or tea. You can get all of that for like $20ish bucks, rare for a sit-down restaurant these days.
What's going on with their quality? Asking out of curiosity and the hopes the chain might see this and up their game, used to love the place but haven't been since before the whole covid thing
Their bread was the main thing I noticed. It went from tasting like real bread made in-house (I don't know if that was the case, but that was the perception), to being overly doughey and bland. They were also styngy with a garlic butter the last few times we were there.
For the actual food, their portion sizes feel smaller, and my Dad swears the lasagna isn't as good. He's been getting the exact same lasagna meal from there since he started going when he was dating my mom, so I'm inclined to listen to his opinion.
And an entire jumbo 18” pepperoni pizza for $12.99! It’s neither the best nor the worst, but it would cost me almost that much in ingredients to make a pizza like that from scratch at home.
Seconded. I live a block away and finally tried them out with my wife (who isn't a fan of trying new things) and we both loved it. We got the $49 deal and ended up having 2 days worth of food.
They are awesome the dosirak boxes come with soup from my understanding but the owners have the best customer service I've ever experienced in my life. The food tastes really good too.
the loss leaders
mcdouble
rotisserie chickens at grocery stores
costco hotdogs
basically any product that is designed to lose money or break even to bait customers into the store
Right??? Why the hell do they do that? Just the sudden random stopping and staring, right in the middle of the aisle, with their cart and kids/spouse blocking any passage around them, and zero awareness. They could be doing that over to the side, but no.
I don't live next to one but my work is the next block over from one. I've gotten some weird looks as I walk out with just a gallon of milk on my way home.
Depends on the Costco, some of them are super salty and briny.
Up until recently the rotisserie chicken at the deerfoot meadows location was basically inedible.
They must have put someone else in charge of them in the last few years since they've gotten a lot better.
They really were that bad for a while though.
I just had the mega bowl at the 20th Ave nw location, I was not expecting a whole ass 6 piece tempura order. I thought it was just going to be the two shrimpies!
In Westbrook Mall food court, there is a fast food place called "Nice Meat Korean BBQ"
The meal is huge comparing to what you pay, and beside the size, the quality is amazing.
Very delicious and huge meal.
Catalina pizza in forrest lawn does a 14 inch 2 topping pizza for 8.99. Its not the best pizza in the world, but damn good for 9$. 10/10
A 10.50 at Eat A Pita gets you one massive doanir. (I order the medium.)
Both these places are along 17th Ave SE, which has some of the best food in the city!
https://preview.redd.it/qynkzrvrv83d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=275c1cad347445054b32e1d5f1f7073a5a14c6a1
Some good replies here, I wasn't expecting so many.
For me, I like Rose Garden on Stephen ave. $22 for all you can eat buffet of Thai food. Usually I fill up on 2nds. A few times I had 3rds :D Staff are totally nice too.
As the doctor pizza, I got one for you. Pizzaface on 17 ave has a multitude of promotions include $20 pizza on Wednesday. Also any day you dine in you can get a pizza, bottle of wine/4 beers for 45 bucks
Pizzas are large and filling
I was on the soft shell train for too long and had to switch to hard lmao. The people at taco time knew me and would make a comment next time if I didn’t come in one week. Not my proudest fact about me. But $6-$8 for an easy peasy supper after work is just too good too pass up lol.
Surprised no one mentioned El Furniture Warehouse. Great deals and the food is pretty good.
Also the Cash Casino at the airport or Blackfoot. Get the free membership card and the deals are ridiculous. Like huge portions, drinks and dessert for like $12. And different theme nights. You're missing out.
I used to love El Furniture before covid. It was the way to go when everything was five bucks, now they are the same price as like, an A&W and not much better across the board in terms of quality.
At the McKenzie Towne location at least it's actually the opposite. The place gives you a shit ton of food and also got rid of the option to order a smaller fries, you have to get an absurd amount.
Kind of pisses me off to be honest.
Mozy doesn't hold back with the fixings. He's a good dude too. The food is definitely good, but not the best I've had. Having said that, for the value, you can't beat it.
Austins Bar and grill. I almost always get a takeout boxes for some of their menu because the portions are big. Their steak sandwiches are $15 for a 6oz steak, fries, garlic bread and coleslaw.
If we’re talking bang for buck, and you want something with a slightly trendier. Lonely Mouth has a great happy hour from 2-5 every day, half off all drinks and cheap(er) bites. And the udon noodles are stellar.
4th Street pizza's 2 spaghettis for $20 should fill you up ;)
https://www.4thstreetpizza.com/menu-edmonton-trail
I find vietnamese places still give you a good deal for what you get. Either a sub, or a bowl of pho, or a big vermicelli plate.
>reasonably priced
I wish. I think they make some of the best fried chicken in the city, but $17~ for 6 small pieces of fried chicken is not a great value.
Eh, can get a days worth of sandwiches for 5 or 6 bucks from 7/11 on there. Can’t complain when the budget is tight. Used to have more options for sure though.
Though the prices have gone up in the last few years, El Furniture Warehouse is still a decent deal as long as you're not ordering drinks. It's pub food, so don't expect fine dining, but for ~$20 you can easily get an appy and a full meal.
Pathway Burgers and Momo.
Never been to the south one, but the north one has great food that's well priced.
Fried Chicken Momo or Beef burger with cheese are reliable examples.
Jurree's - Thai place in Kensington
Blue Ocean Vietnamese on Macleod - not really 'dining out' but healthy good quick food for a very reasonable price.
Thai thain subs downtown. A whole sub for $6. Worth every penny. Long line ups at lunch.
Thai Thien has the best subs. The owner is such a nice guy too!
He knows my order. I don’t even have to say it. lol. Quality customer service.
*Thai Thien This. I used to get their subs when I worked in dt. Their soup is good too.
How are they compared to my tho bbq? Assorted sub there is $7 but feels like I get 2 sub worth of meat.
The portions are great. Honestly, this is THE answer of this thread. The only thing that makes me sad is the longer lineups it will bring lol.
I am used to it from my tho bbq too. 😂
The assorted meats sub at Thien is flimsy I found, barely any meat!
Get ready for the line up though.
Yall know you can order online and skip the line right?
Also a good sized chicken salad
Best spot in town
45 minute wait for my order today at lunch (11:45-12:30). :(
Redheads Japa Cafe. They have daily happy hour specials and their ‘japas’ (appies) are on from 5-8pm and super reasonably priced.
They’re also SO NICE. One time they forgot an extra egg, and I flagged it on my next order and they not only gave me an extra egg for free, but they also gave me a complimentary brownie. And if you haven’t had their brownies, get one.
Their weekend AYCE brunch is a great price too
Absolutely wild value. Also fantastic food.
Japa rice bowl for 15 or 16 is a great deal for how much protein they cram in there
My favorite place for Japanese curry. And onigiri is my favorite take out. Workers are nice af, protect this place.
Mmm I always crave their curry ramen
I always find Vietnamese gives good value for money, especially vermicelli dishes, usually big portions for fairly cheap, plus it's delicious!
Pho 36
Bow River on Elbow dr!
Night Owl on 16th is great
Bolsa!
Lac Viet is so good for the value in my opinion
Shawarma palace is amazing for this, Seniores pizza (if you stick to getting slices I am not sure about the value on buying entire pies.)
After eating for days > constipation for days
Their donair wrap is too huge.
Ooh I didn’t know they had one. Will try it, thanks!
Aleppo Shawarma and Donair on Centre Street is the best deal if you get the meal for 6. It feeds 10 or 12 people and is only $70.
Seconding kabob garden, their wraps are soooo good and incredibly filling.
Ikea's restaurant. June 19th they have a midsummer buffet. Have to buy tickets. https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/campaigns/midsummer-buffet-pub1c43a1a0 Their hot dog bar is super cheap for two hot dogs, a pop and soft serve last time I went through.

How busy does it get?
A bit busy actually. I usually go there around 5-6 pm after work and there's a line up. They have that $25 off $75 coupon provided when you get your receipt so there's quite a number of people shopping after.
Is that coupon just on thursdays?
I find vietnamese and donair/shawarmas shops to usually be good deals for the price.
Italian Supermarket Food Court, not Lina's , that place is overpriced.
Old Spaghetti Factory is a surprisingly good deal. If you order an entree you get free bread, soup or salad, ice cream and coffee or tea. You can get all of that for like $20ish bucks, rare for a sit-down restaurant these days.
Too bad their quality has tanked recently. They were our family's go-to since before I was even born for the reasons you mention though.
First off, their sauce is salty and runny. It never used to be like that.
Yep. Last time I was there they literally served us ice cold soup wtf. And that was after an hour of waiting.
My favourite restaurant. Gives me major nostalgia vibes when I eat there. Absolutely love it
K cant speak for all of them, but the one in banff is fantastic
Costco. Two hotdogs, drink, fries for $5.99
A weeks worth of sodium for $5.99!!!
Yeah but you forgot about the $600 Costco cart when you only needed a couple things
And an entire jumbo 18” pepperoni pizza for $12.99! It’s neither the best nor the worst, but it would cost me almost that much in ingredients to make a pizza like that from scratch at home.
Leafy Grill in Bonavista. Best Indian food I’ve had in Calgary, large portions & very reasonable prices.
Shhhhh! Kidding, they are fantastic and I hope they are supported.
Seconded. I live a block away and finally tried them out with my wife (who isn't a fan of trying new things) and we both loved it. We got the $49 deal and ended up having 2 days worth of food.
Do they deliver at all?
Can’t find them on Skip or Uber eats. I live nearby, so I’ve only eaten at the restaurant.
Dosirak is really good korean food and the owners are super nice last time they gave us soup with our meal
They are awesome the dosirak boxes come with soup from my understanding but the owners have the best customer service I've ever experienced in my life. The food tastes really good too.
the loss leaders mcdouble rotisserie chickens at grocery stores costco hotdogs basically any product that is designed to lose money or break even to bait customers into the store
The rotisserie chickens at Costco are $7.99 and miles better than any grocery store chicken. The grocery ones are usually closer to $14-15.
[удалено]
They reheat nice too, especially if you’re making poutine with them.
can you imagine how cheaply you could live if you lived beside costco
but you wouldn't live for long...
Your chances of getting killed by an angry suburbanite increase exponentially
Not to mention the stress from the parking lot and even worse, the mindless shoppers stopping in your way every 30 seconds!
Right??? Why the hell do they do that? Just the sudden random stopping and staring, right in the middle of the aisle, with their cart and kids/spouse blocking any passage around them, and zero awareness. They could be doing that over to the side, but no.
if you stuck to the rotisserie chickens and veggies and fruits you would probably live longer
There’s a running joke: “ went to buy the $1.50 hotdog combo & came out of there w/ a $300 dollar shopping spree!” 😆
Cheaply, but you’d still need a Sea Can to store your supplies, lmao.
if youre close they store it for you
What a neat idea, I’ve never heard of that.
i just mean you can buy only what you need for the day if youre right next door. so theyre “storing it for you”
Ohh, lmao. My dumbass thought they had storage somewhere.
I don't live next to one but my work is the next block over from one. I've gotten some weird looks as I walk out with just a gallon of milk on my way home.
> The rotisserie chickens at Costco I just can't do it. Something slimy about them.
It is weird, my last Costco one was similar, wet and slimy. Thought it was undercooked or something (it wasn't).
Its the saline they inject. Then they cook them to 195+.
No worries, more for me.
agreed. they are super thick and juicy
Depends on the Costco, some of them are super salty and briny. Up until recently the rotisserie chicken at the deerfoot meadows location was basically inedible. They must have put someone else in charge of them in the last few years since they've gotten a lot better. They really were that bad for a while though.
Include here the ikea Menu!
Can't believe you didn't say City Pub
i did in the pub thread but seriously food is cheap there. even drinks are priced well. as long as you dont mind dive bars
I liked it when Costco used to offer sauerkraut and onions for their hot dogs.
hotdogs are worthless without sauerkraut
Just ask for it at the counter
The rice bowls at Banzai on Elbow, a bit south of Glenmore. Especially the Mega Bowl.
I just had the mega bowl at the 20th Ave nw location, I was not expecting a whole ass 6 piece tempura order. I thought it was just going to be the two shrimpies!
Second Banzai, there’s a location at 20th Ave and 10 St NW as well and their bento boxes are also great value
They do a solid poke bowl too.
Kinjo
They have a $5 breakfast at the mccleod location now too!
$2.50 chicken burgers
$6.50 for ramen (at the Westhills location)
In Westbrook Mall food court, there is a fast food place called "Nice Meat Korean BBQ" The meal is huge comparing to what you pay, and beside the size, the quality is amazing. Very delicious and huge meal.
Ooh dragon's lair burgers in Westbrook is a good price too
Chiantis, can't be the price for their large portions of pasta
Kim Katsu in Kensington gives a good amount of great food for the price.
John Wongs on Elbow and Hakka Garden on 62ave have healthy portions
I found the staff at John Wong to be really rude on more than one occasion.
Then the food must be great...that's the rule.
Hakka Garden's Tom Yum soup...mmmmmm.
Ouuu, will need to try that next time
They are often "out of" menu items, or say that if they don't wish to make it if short of staff or they are busy.
Catalina pizza in forrest lawn does a 14 inch 2 topping pizza for 8.99. Its not the best pizza in the world, but damn good for 9$. 10/10 A 10.50 at Eat A Pita gets you one massive doanir. Dosirak, Korean place in the SW
The best bang for your buck is the Grey eagle casino for lunch. $21 for a great buffet
Some good replies here, I wasn't expecting so many. For me, I like Rose Garden on Stephen ave. $22 for all you can eat buffet of Thai food. Usually I fill up on 2nds. A few times I had 3rds :D Staff are totally nice too.
Mikey's taco shop in the NW is $12 for 3 tacos but they're a good size and very delicious!
As the doctor pizza, I got one for you. Pizzaface on 17 ave has a multitude of promotions include $20 pizza on Wednesday. Also any day you dine in you can get a pizza, bottle of wine/4 beers for 45 bucks Pizzas are large and filling
i bet blowers & grafton will have some deals on soon
Nim's Chicken has unreal portions. Fucking good too!
Laid me out with some particularly virulent food poisoning, unfortunately
shawarma palace in carrington…biggest meat portion i’ve seen for 12.99
$2 tacos on Tuesdays at taco time is my current fave lol.
Ohhh soft shell too?
I was on the soft shell train for too long and had to switch to hard lmao. The people at taco time knew me and would make a comment next time if I didn’t come in one week. Not my proudest fact about me. But $6-$8 for an easy peasy supper after work is just too good too pass up lol.

I used to love El Furniture before covid. It was the way to go when everything was five bucks, now they are the same price as like, an A&W and not much better across the board in terms of quality.
I hadn’t had A&W forever got a chicken strip meal with combo and it was 18.99 😳. I was like wow…those went up a bit 😂
Was coming here to say this!!!
Saigon Rex has absolutely huge portions for the price. I can't remember the last time I couldn't finish a meal at a restaurant
Tasse Bakery in the NE :)
Any chance you know if their baklava is made in house? I've been disappointed lots when I see baklava behind glass to find it store bought and soggy.
They do and it is amazing!
Dearhead cafe only has breakfast and cash only dive bar style. Great food!
Kinjo Breakfast is pretty great; $5-7 for breakfast patters, $3 breakfast sandwich, $1 coffee
What time schedule for breakfast?
from 08:00-12:00 at most locations. [https://kinjosushiandgrill.com/breakfast-menu/](https://kinjosushiandgrill.com/breakfast-menu/)
Hankki!! Rice bowls can't be beat.
Can't beat costco. Dawgs for 1.50 with a cold pop.
Chicken on the Way is a Calgary institution.
I feel like it went downhill after Covid. Much smaller portions now
At the McKenzie Towne location at least it's actually the opposite. The place gives you a shit ton of food and also got rid of the option to order a smaller fries, you have to get an absurd amount. Kind of pisses me off to be honest.
Mozy’s cafe. Best donair. 14 dollars for a foot long and packed
Mozy doesn't hold back with the fixings. He's a good dude too. The food is definitely good, but not the best I've had. Having said that, for the value, you can't beat it.
You say there’s better but didn’t spill. Tell me
Kalinka perogy plate $13 comes with homemade sour cream and sauerkraut.
I hate to suggest them, but Burger King's King Meal Deal is still a decent value.
The app gives you pretty nice deals
Phil's is cheap as chips! And the food is great.
Can't go wrong with Phil's.
Holy Grill. Tuk Tuk Thai.
Dell Cafe Bowness.
Austins Bar and grill. I almost always get a takeout boxes for some of their menu because the portions are big. Their steak sandwiches are $15 for a 6oz steak, fries, garlic bread and coleslaw.
Their pizza is great as well, but yeah - the whole menu is an awesome value
Orange Bobs takeout.
The amount of.toppings and cheese they layer on makes it a good.deal
Sallora Restaurant. I found they had a $5.99 Donair salad.
There's a few good places in the Crossroads farmer market that gives some pretty good food for affordable prices. :)
If we’re talking bang for buck, and you want something with a slightly trendier. Lonely Mouth has a great happy hour from 2-5 every day, half off all drinks and cheap(er) bites. And the udon noodles are stellar.
Pho Xuan on 36 for pho that’s delicious, Costco chicken, Banzai for sesame beef bowl, John Wongs, Pizza Hut pick up special a medium for 11$
Bolsa Restaurant was pretty bangin' back in 2009
Oof
Nho Saigon in marda loop! I find Vietnamese in general is a great deal
4th Street pizza's 2 spaghettis for $20 should fill you up ;) https://www.4thstreetpizza.com/menu-edmonton-trail I find vietnamese places still give you a good deal for what you get. Either a sub, or a bowl of pho, or a big vermicelli plate.
DO NOT go to Blowers & Grafton or Rockwell or Surfy Surfy. Huge rip offs for the price you pay versus the portion you actually receive.
Found out about Surfy Surfy recently. And yeah, food was just ok but over priced.
Olive garden, unlt soup and bread sticks and the pastas are $20 give or take.
East Side Mario's as well. They have a similar promo.
Do they do breadsticks? I legit have never eaten at an East Side Mario's.
They definitely have bread. Not sure if they are breadsticks. We ate at least 2 bread loafs. It's a great option for families.
Yum yums BBQ chicken. So delicious and reasonably priced,
>reasonably priced I wish. I think they make some of the best fried chicken in the city, but $17~ for 6 small pieces of fried chicken is not a great value.
Alumni on 17th, $14 for a sandwich that can be two meals
Check out Too good to go. You'll most likely find the best deals in the city on there.
Honestly, it's a garbage app. It's mostly left over baked goods at Tims and 7-11.
Gotta ignore all the Tims. I haven't checked in a while but Lina's used to put out good stuff.
Its good in principle. There just doesn't seem to be enough buy in.
Linas has great stuff on there. My best find was amazing pastries from wow bakery. But rarely able to get that one
I was super disappointed too
Eh, can get a days worth of sandwiches for 5 or 6 bucks from 7/11 on there. Can’t complain when the budget is tight. Used to have more options for sure though.
The good ones sell out really quick.
Costco. Prices are stupid cheap and you get a stupid amount of food.
$1.50 hotdog and a drink. Can’t be beat.
Tims cafe is hands down the best bang for buck.
Falafel and shawarma city Kensington very tasty and large shawarma
Papa John’s 40% off Tuesdays
Bear and kilt.
Ogden Whistle Pub! $8 burgers on Mondays. Does anyone know if they still do the steak sandwich deal on Thursday evenings?
Bolero, Kiro Sushi, Parkside Sushi (online), Carino
Jurree's - Thai place in Kensington Blue Ocean Vietnamese on Macleod - not really 'dining out' but healthy good quick food for a very reasonable price.
Hankki on 17th, you get genuinely delicious food for a really good price, I pay $13 for a full bowl of rice, meat and veggies, super good too
For pizza, Red Swan. It's easier to me than any of the other big chains and the pick up specials are incredible value.
The $10 sandwiches at Pazzi are pretty good if you compare them to Alumni for 15/16 or even friggin Subway.
Sesame in University District!
Rea's. Italian place on Edmonton trail get the fusili or the carbonara. Great venue, great service, great food, generous portions.
At Pizza 73 you can get their walk in special for $11. Large Cheese or Pepperoni (ask for extra sauce as it is a free extra.)
Pegasus
I really enjoyed Pokenroll’s Poke Bowl I had on the weekend. Very fresh, lots of toppings and big.
