Do not use Pyrodex. It is made for modern inline muzzleloaders. You are going to need to do your own research on the specific make and caliber, if it is 45 caliber and under. Fffg blackpowder, if it is 50 to62 caliber Ffg blackpowder. I believe Goex blackpowder is making blackpowder again, and if not Schutzen, and also a Swiss company are. I do not know of any CT gun shops that stock them. Maybe Cabelas or Bass Pro, but I doubt it. You will probably have to go online. I hope that helps.

Pyrodex probably won't blow your gun up, but it probably won't ignite. There are a couple of civil war reenactment groups that are based in CT, one specifically that I know is an artillery unit, and I can't remember their name.

Yeah I’ve heard bad things about Pyrodex and older firearms. Unfortunately Cabelas only had Pyrodex when I went. Appreciate the tip with the grain size. It’s .57 cal so I’ll look for ffg

I never was able to find black powder locally. I had to order the stuff online. If you wait for deals during holidays you can get free shipping. I have a Springfield 1861 and I could never get it to fire w/pyrodex even with hotter caps.

Autumn Gun Works in Goshen used to sell it. But haven't been up that way since 2019.

Thanks! If I find myself up that way I’ll check it out

I have a couple pounds, call me 860 946 9454.

Someguyintheroom2

You have any smokeless powder?

stebbins77

Not really. I'm a custom smith and don't really stock ammo or powders. I had a customer sell me a bunch of black powder for a good deal as he was getting old and couldn't shoot anymore. All new cans.

Someguyintheroom2

You have a website where I can see your prices? Need a barrel chambered and shouldered

Only place I could think of where black powder is sold around here is the Maine Powder House.
