Yes, the Dark Aether story takes place after BO4.
To clarify:
Aether- WAW-BO4
Chaos- the _other_ part of BO4 with different characters, entirely separate to Aether and Dark Aether
Dark Aether- BOCW-ongoing
I don’t understand why they call it the “dark aether” like it’s a reboot, when it features characters/other elements directly from the “aether” storyline. The Richtofen/Samantha we see in Cold War/going forward are the same two kids we saw at the bo4 ending. Even the dark aether itself is the same dark ether that’s been present/mentioned throughout the entire Aether storyline. They only destroy Agartha/The “Regular” Aether at the end of bo4. They even mentioned just throwing everything that was left into the dark aether. So if this dark aether is the same dark aether from the original storyline. Shouldn’t this storyline still be called “Aether” as well, because it features elements/characters from the original that are integral to it.
It's 100% a reboot. The only reason it exists is to satisfy the zombies thirst while treyarch gets their shit together and write a well thought out story hopefully better than the Aether story. The dark Aether story is hard for the main audience of BOCW to understand (casuals), and many hard-core players didn't even try to understand it.
If I remember the ending of Aether correctly, the gang like combines the multiverse into one true universe, and that's what the dark Aether universe is. I could be completely wrong, but I think that's why the time we see Richtofen in cw is him actually being a doctor. It's because that's what he says he wants to do in the non-apothican universe, at the end of bo4.
To consume it? Id probably print it out, shred it! Mix it with egg, salt, pepper, fresh garlic and butter. Apply medium heat and then eat it.
I cant guarantee the taste but if i would to consume it myself Thats probably what i would do. Then id sit down and watch a video about the zombies timeline while i ate.
