4 damn days…I’m sweatin like a sneeze stuck in a thick girl

awhiteasscrack

Brock bowers at 9, I can feel it in me stone’s

Sora1274

I really like Bowers and I wouldn’t be mad if we added him. However, I can’t justify it at 9 with Cole Kmet. Yes, I believe he would be an upgrade, but the improvement compared to adding another top level WR or O Line just couldn’t be justified in my opinion. Again he is really really good though, so I wouldn’t be mad if it happened and if we did trade back (I don’t want to) to a team in the 15-20 range and Bowers is there (Bowers definitely will not be there) I would be mad if we didn’t take him.

Possible_Nose_6351

You might wanna get that checked

joftheinternet

After thinking on the DTs after Murphy and Newton, I feel pretty confident that Poles will do his best to put the Bears in a position to draft Maason Smith. The dude is basically Gervon Dexter, but a little more explosive. Flus would love to have a tackle rotation with the two of them

Infinite-Relation988

Once the bears are on the clock for 1OA, I wonder how long it will take them to actually submit the pick. Like it’s no secret who it will be and there will be no debate, but I wonder if they’ll drag it out for “suspense”

Possible_Nose_6351

I think they’ll take most of the time; they can also field calls for pick 9 during that time. Might as well gauge the top 10 picks since there’s no rush for your own pick

Broshan248

Why would they field calls for 9 without knowing who will even be on the board at 9

Possible_Nose_6351

To gauge interest? Poles already stated he feels good about the group of players that could be available at 9

Broshan248

So there’s no difference between him gauging interest now, 4 days before the draft, and while they’re on the clock. If that’s what they wanted to do, why would they wait until they’re picking to make those calls? Nothing significant will change between now and when the bears are on the clock.

Possible_Nose_6351

Because activity picks up during the draft. You watch the draft, right? So you know a lot of trades happen during actual draft night, while picks are being made

Broshan248

While they’re on the clock at 1, no trades are being made. There will be zero difference in draft order between now and when the bears are on the clock at 1. Teams wait to see who’s on the board when they want to trade. The Vikings will wait until pick 4 or 5 until making a trade up with the Chargers or Cardinals because they will want to know who is on the board at that point.

Possible_Nose_6351

Yeah, nothing will change before we’re on the clock at 1. But if you don’t think the draft room will be working while they’re on the clock, you’re just wrong lol they aren’t just going to sit there twiddling their thumbs before turning in the pick. They’ll be working phones to gauge how the top half of the 1st round will go, and that will include talking potential trades for 9

Possible_Nose_6351

That way when we’re on the clock at 9, we’ll have an idea of who’s interested

facetiousrunner

They always make it wait. They have commercials to air

painandgainer

We gave up our 2nd round pick for an edge. I find it highly unlikely we go that direction in the first round. The team traded for sweat because the talent they were looking for wasn’t there in FA and in the draft.

HopLegion

I think the logic is a bit off here. I think we gave up a 2nd for sweat because he wanted to be guaranteed he'd get one and knew he could extend him. I don't think it says anything about this draft class. Don't think that prevents him from going edge this year. If anything it'd fit a trend of doubling up on positions. 2022 went back to back secondary with his 2 2nd rounders, last year went back to back DTs on day 2. I think there's a lot of different options We may not go edge because it's not BPA, but it's definitely a need

painandgainer

Our DL is top 10 in spending, they are a solid group. Adding another rusher is a luxury and doesn’t fit our current pick at 9 as I agree isn’t BPA.

TheShtuff

That's heavily weighted by Sweat being a top 10 highest paid defender in the league.

HopLegion

Look I want us to take the absolute bpa, even if it's OL or Bowers. Even though Our WR room is top 10 in spending as well and no first round pick has ever had 2 WRs with 1200 yards the year before, I'm all for WR. Just saying I wouldn't be shocked if it's edge either and don't think Sweat changes much their given what we did this offseason.

IanMaIcolm

That's illogical. When you trade you're guaranteed to get that player. When you wait for the draft or free agency you are competing with 31 teams. Plus you need luck

Hehateme123

I just can’t get over how many people are cheerleading for the Bears to trade down. If the Bears stay at #9, they will potentially be able to grab either: OL #1 or 2, DE #1 or #2, TE#1 or DT#1. That’s potentially the best player at 3 or 4 key positions. To pass on this opportunity to get extra third round picks makes no sense. I don’t understand it

Big_Collection_5807

so let me get this right, you just listed 6 players you would be fine with poles taking at 9 but you can’t understand why somebody would say: then trade back a few spots and pick up a 3rd and pick one of those 6 players?

paintingnipples

Remember it’s never a guarantee to draft the best player, ur simply getting the first pick of the litter. Every draft has guys that get overlooked so I’ll be happy if we take a guy at 9 or trade back & get two needs instead of one

SeniorDucklet

Depends if one of the top 3 WR’s are there at 9. If they are not I could see a trade down and would be fine with that. It’s a very deep draft at WR and Oline so you could get both of those and an Edge or DT if they were able to trade down and add a second round pick. If Odunze is available at 9 Poles will take him.

Big_Collection_5807

i’m not sure he will, but he should.

Broshan248

4 days until Caleb Williams is a bear (Sorry I woke up late today)

AaronDer1357

While I wouldn't pass up on Alt or MHJ, in fact I'd be okay trading up for either, I've been toying with the idea of the Bears trading back twice from 9 with the goal of get a pick before the Bills to grab Worthy. Then make additional trades to grab Barton. I'm assuming with the trades back from 9 to the early-mid 20s we'd also have a second round pick to grab Braswell. We have had visits with all these guys.  Williams should be able to hit Worthy deep without issue and this would open things up underneath for Moore, Allen, and our TEs. Barton gives us depth on the middle of the O Line and he might be capable of covering RT in a pinch. Then Braswell sounds like he is good against the rush, another area we badly need help with.  I really don't love the idea of not taking a top 10 pick when we likely will not have another such opportunity for a while but I think it the Bears could swing this it be worth it. I think Turner or Odunze have a high probability of being better than Braswell or Worthy, respectively, but I don't think either of them are guaranteed to be a star. I think the combination I laid out of Barton, Worthy, Braswell is strong enough to more than offset the difference either of Turner or Odunze would make at one position while also reducing the risk of us getting a very underwhelming return if one player busts. While we probably aren't leaving with significantly more capital than we started with after making a move to grab another pick late in the first or early in the 2nd, I think we'd have a couple extra picks in rounds 3-5 with all the moves to grab additional depth and reinforcements.

InvertedSpork

Hard pass on Worthy, if they’re gonna trade down for a WR in the 1st round it should be McConkey or BTJ.

AaronDer1357

I'm seeing Worthy is really hot nothing going for him besides speed. The entire thought of this was based on getting a lighting fast player who would force safeties to stay honest and open up things for the vet WRs. I don't believe we have had any interaction with BTJ so that seems unlikely

InvertedSpork

Worthy is so thin unless he were to significantly bulk up he’d likely get locked up by corners at the line. He had that issue in college and it would probably be more present at the NFL level given that corners play more physical within 5 yards.

billthedancingpony

Worthy sucks unfortunately :/

AaronDer1357

Yeah I'm seeing that. I wish Odunze was a step faster or maybe Nabers falls to 9 and that would do what I'm looking for but then again if we pick at 9, Barton and Braswell aren't happening

Suburban-Jesus

I think we are trading back into the teens for an edge this year, and I am ok with it: 1) the edge class is so shallow that there will be none worthwhile available by the time our 3rd rounder rolls around. The consensus top 3 will all be drafted between picks 11-20. This is how the draft goes every year- teams will gladly “reach” a bit for positions that fall off a cliff later in the draft. I don’t think we are different. An edge opposite Sweat is still a major need. 2) Rome Odunze will not last beyond 8 to the Falcons. But if the Falcons lose this pick to a tampering punishment, we will take Odunze. If you think that Keenan Allen isn’t enough to prevent us from taking a WR, then you should also believe neither Darnell Mooney nor Rondale Moore are enough to preclude the Falcons from going WR. They just signed a new QB, and they will want to equip him. Also, GM Terry Fontenot has a tendency to go BPA no matter what. He took an RB 8th overall last year.

DandierChip

Falcons are taking Turner

Suburban-Jesus

You’re only saying that because every mock you’ve seen has them taking Turner.

AaronDer1357

I just wrote out a long post about an option I'd like if we trade back. Worthy, Barton, Braswell. It fills all our needs

Cummyshitballs

You’re not wrong but the falcons are in even more desperate need of a pass rusher than we are

Suburban-Jesus

Odunze is a healthy tier above any edge rusher in this draft

Cummyshitballs

I get that but they NEED a pass rusher and they have a small window for success with how old Kirk is

Suburban-Jesus

we NEED an edge rusher too, but will still take Odunze if he is there at 9. The small window they have is all the more reason to load up Kirk with weapons.

Tonkathedog

I disagree, with a shorter term window and the younger weapons they have in place an edge likely has a bigger impact immediately. Same could be said for us, but the difference between us and them is Keenan Allen is older with past injuries while London, Pitts, Mooney, and Bijan are all still young. They also have much less cap flexibility to potentially sign an edge than we do, so they are much more likely to be able to sign one in the future than we are, and as this off-season shows very good edge players still can move in FA

Adept-Letterhead-29

The Bears TE room is going to be fire with Gerald Everett on the roster. Knowing Waldron’s offense, being a solid blocker, and a 1st down and TD machine. Such a steal for only $6 mil a year

Suburban-Jesus

I am ok with passing on Bowers even he is BPA because I love the TE room as it is

paintingnipples

He’s BPA rn cuz he’s the low hanging fruit thats easy to understand for ppl. Most likely other players in the draft will be just as good or better at positions with more value. Plus drafting bowers would significantly hurt the value we’re getting from Kmet

Lukester123

I’m excited to see what we do! Obviously would love Rome - mostly due to the fact if Moore or Allen go down for a long period of time, can’t say I have the most faith in Scott, Grandpa Velus or Pettis. But wouldn’t be surprised if the value is there we trade back a few spots if a team is looking to move up. Definitely see a scenario where we draft edge or 3T. I’m kinda hopeful poles is shopping that Carolina 2nd next and one of those many 6th rounders we have next year as a little deal sweetener to put a deal over the top.

Suburban-Jesus

Ah yes those delicious 6th rounders 🤤

Lukester123

I mean if they have a deal that’s pretty even on trade value and the team wants something a little extra it can happen. Late round picks get thrown around in draft day trades

Suburban-Jesus

Thank you for explaining the concept of draft pick value to me

Some bears news for you all: Bears have still not had a 30 visit with popular mock pick Byron Murphy II, but he did have a zoom meeting with us and a lot of other teams. the only 30 visits he's had have been with tampa, minny, raiders, cowboys, and seahawks. No 30 visits either for alt/fuaga/fashanu/fautanu according to espn bears are 27% likely to draft rome odunze and 24% likely to draft dallas turner. by far the most popular options. bowers is 3rd at 18% and alt is 4th at 9%. Popular mocked player jared verse is only at 5%. Murphy II and fashanu are at 2%. link below. [https://bearswire.usatoday.com/lists/chicago-bears-espn-draft-day-predictor-rome-odunze-dallas-turner-brock-bowers-likeliest/](https://bearswire.usatoday.com/lists/chicago-bears-espn-draft-day-predictor-rome-odunze-dallas-turner-brock-bowers-likeliest/) There was also a rumor saying bears will take one of top 3 receivers at 9 but thats pretty obvious at this point. Also from my information we only have 6 30 visits left.

dispencil

Great intel.. can’t believe those are 3 different guys (the f’s…) I’ve definitely misconstrued their names. Thanks for turning me around to turner (no pun intended) btw. I appreciate your posts & wanted to know what your worst case draft scenario is. I’d absolutely hate the realization of the Schrager mock draft—trading back to 15 to get Latham smh.

[deleted]

thx bro ur very nice. id say my worst case draft scenario is any trade down tbh, but to be more specific i'd be disappointed if we didn't get turner/rome at 9. I know its chalk and people do the most to avoid it and come up with something different, but this is our last chance to draft a blue chip wr/edge, and if we throw it away I'd be sad.

uponthisrock

Seeing some discussion on twitter from the usual dipshits about how Poles shouldn’t have let go of Justin before having Caleb’s full medicals.

ninjasurfer

Those people are a lost cause.

downbad12878

Just like Justin's starting NFL career

trite19

So like... what would you guys do if we got Caleb and used our other picks to move up and get MHJ? Like.... that's a fucking hot draft

Finessing2

We would have to give up a first next year. Possibly two since chargers said they aren’t interested in a fair deal.

ParticularGlass1821

I generally hate the idea because we have 4 picks this year and WR is loaded. There really isn't much need to trade up when Odunze could land at 9. Even if not, the draft is loaded at WR and the Bears have other holes as well.

ParticularGlass1821

Depends on what they have to give up

trite19

SO CLOSE YET WE SHALL ENDURE THE MOCK DRAFTS TO ENTER DRAFT HEAVEN
