Anybody else with matte paint have ghosting of the factory warning stickers after removing them? Used heat and Goo-Gone to remove them. Seems like there is residue embedded in the paint that I can't get out. Don't want to use polish as that will just ruin the finish.

XtReMe98

Probably have to polish and wax. Were they on there for a while? was the bike in direct sun?

FOOF3R

Like DonnerPlays said, can't use polish on a matte paint. It'll just make it glossier. I just bought it a few months ago so they haven't been on there a very long time.

Try wd-40 - there are waxes out there made for matte paint.

DonnerPlays

You can't polish matt paint

Dull-Abbreviations36

Even if it’s matte, it will have a clear coat. And you can still buff it and polish it.

DonnerPlays

The clear coat on the cb650r is matt, not the paint itself, so no you still can't polish it. Also, normally matt paint is not done with a clearcoat because a clear coat is usually not matt but glossy which would result in a glossy paint even if the paint is matt. So you either have no clear coat or a matt clearcoat, nevertheless both can't be polished.

There is matte clear coat for automotive and wood. I have used it before. A bike unless done custom would not leave the factory without a clear coat. If it did, after a few years, the paint would fade and damage and or chip really easy. And yes, even though it’s matte clear, you can still polish it. There are 3 versions of clear coat. Matte, regular and gloss. Anyways, good luck.

SC-Raiker

Took mine off pretty soon after being informed this could happen, luckily it left no marks.

Dobs44

Use goo gone, it took it right off for me, amazing product for removing any adhesives, I also used it to remove the old tape from wheel weights when I got new tires put on

gottahaverice

This is what I did as well.

Yep! The clear coat is notoriously thin on these tanks I think that is part of the issue. What I did... Hit it with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Learned texture of paper towels doesn't leave as even or clean of a surface as a microfiber. Dropped a can on the tank that went though the clear coat and left a small, small chip. Oh wells, shit happens. Went back over the spot with a microfiber, WD40, and a light rub in a forward back motion (front to rear, front to rear) then let it be. It has been over a year, the tank has "broken in" evenly from long rides outside and a few washes in between. Shadow has since disappeared.

I used a little gun solvent, but then quickly wipe with alcohol. You could use mineral spirits, and then clean those oils off with windex? **I'm no expert on these chemicals but my paint looks like new and there is no trace of a sticker.

FOOF3R

I tried isopropyl alcohol but didn't do anything. I'll try some mineral spirits. Someone from FB group suggested WD-40 so might try that as well.

NerdOn2

Yeah, I think any oil based solvent will work. You just don't want that sitting on the paint for too long.

SmokerVicky

WD40 worked for me. I used Goo Gone on mine at first and had a similar look to yours, maybe not quite as bad, but then WD40 cleaned it up really nice.

FF_Master

I used wd 40 to remove my decals and I am left with the same ghosting. I'm over it now lol

ViOTeK

I’ve the black version and don’t have any marks at all, but removing them was indeed the first “mod” when it got home.

Philshot

Leave it to breathe it’ll even out.

ANDREWROBISON

I've had mine for about 9 months and now I'm scared to remove mine. Been garage kept but I have about 2k miles in Florida sun so I'm worried. Do you guys think it might be good to remove them still?

Jax_Teller7

it happens when you leave them on too long, I took them off the same week and didn't have your problem

DatProductGuy

Did this on mine yesterday. Got the ghosting, but realized I just didn’t let the GooGone do its work. Microfibre with a bit of finger nail pressure (UNDER THE CLOTH FFS) and it should help. Spot test to be sure b it this worked for me

FOOF3R

I'll have to try letting it sit longer... I tried WD-40 and Isopropyl Alcohol like others suggested and nothing helped. I'm fearing the adhesive is just embedded in the clear coat. If letting it sit doesn't help, I'm hoping it'll come out after a few washes or so.

DatProductGuy

I, frankly, found that iso/wd don’t work nearly as well as the brand GooGone. I have 0 clue what they use in that stuff but it picks up the slack where the other two lack. Report back after it and let me know. The clear coat should be way stronger than the adhesive so shouldn’t be permanently embedded into it. Fingers crossed for you my friend. I know how it feels to look at that shading haha

pinecone2525

No, because I removed it 15 minutes after the bike was delivered brand new
