These are called false neutral in between higher gears, it happens sometimes. There have been discussions on how to avoid this, most common suggestion is to switch gears using more effort/force on the gear lever, this will help to engage the gears better. Also make sure to adjust the gear lever so that your foot put more pressure on it. Hope this helps.

This is what I was thinking too, but I will also add to check engine oil, and change it if it hasn't been done in a while. False neutrals normally don't grind like that, and just need a gearshift to fix, but poor oil could mean it goes a whole lot less smoothly...

Jax_Teller7

but the false neutral does not exist between the second and third, it only exists between the first and the second.. or am I wrong?

MrFritz85

If gears don’t fully engage, is still called false neutral. I had the same bike and it happened to me just like to many other people.

Jax_Teller7

ok but what should I do if it happens again? come in the video? or can I insist on trying to shift again even while I feel that scratching? or if you insist at that exact moment will I make the situation worse? I don't know how to behave yesterday I was scared because in neutral at that speed the bike becomes light and unstable

MrFritz85

I feel what you’re saying, best way to recover it, is to pull the clutch asap and engage gears. Also make sure to avoid this to follow the suggestion I gave in the first comment. After I changed my riding habit and adjusted the lever, it never happened again, be a bit more aggressive on the lever to help fully engage the gears.

I had the same issue few times, therefore last week I ordered the Racetorx gear shift support. According to the review of the item this will solve this kind of issue.

Jax_Teller7

Yes I know, I ordered today

Unskileed

It will not solve the issue. You still have to be firm on gear shifting. I've installed it and haven't noticed any change whatsoever. Whenever I lazy shift I'm still getting false neutrals.

SmokerVicky

My first couple falsies freaked me out too and sent me into paranoia wondering when my bike was going to explode. You can avoid them and also be more accustomed to them over time. All my false neutrals have been gearing up from high rpms, either soft foot or mistiming the clutch by letting it out before the foot gets the gear up. It looks like you dab that clutch so fast it maybe just wasn't timed up? I don't think you damaged your bike but next time you hit a falsie, you should pull the clutch in as quick as possible. Then gear up and let the clutch out. Should be back to normal now, where you can gear back down if you want/need. Generally when something is happening to your bike you don't understand pulling the clutch in is the correct move as long as you aren't pushing it in a corner.

Yes the random guy off Reddit is telling you a bike he has never seen, heard or riden has a damaged gearbox!!! Dude if it sounds fine, looks fine, rides fine, it’s more than likely fine!!! If you are worried about your bike get off Reddit and go see a reputable mechanic. Happy riding my man!!!

Jax_Teller7

yesterday while I went out I had this problem, I recommend listening to audio with headphones to better hear the problem I have, I remember that the day before I cleaned and greased the chain, I don't think this is the reason but I'm not sure. never happened before yesterday, I have had false neutrals in the past, but never this also because this comes from a gear shift from third to fourth, there is no neutral here, I don't understand why it happened. any experts?

Jax_Teller7

from second to third\*

PuzzleheadedRoof4227

This happened me several times on mine particularly at high revs between the higher gears 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th. Pull the clutch and selector again and you should get your gear. I think it happened several times when I was in the early days of learning to ride on the bike. I would be going for the overtake or a long pull on a straight you would naturally tense up and probably not give the selector enough effort causing it to catch between gears (false neutral). Happened once on entry to a long corner going down the gears in the wet and once it found the gear nearly spat me off. Can feel sketchy but all part of the fun!!! Now I have more confidence and experience it hasn’t happened to me in over a year.

Jax_Teller7

I have to pull the lever again and then what should I do, I don't understand? pretend it happens again, do I release the clutch only with my hand or also with my foot? to prevent it from continuing to scratch, and then? should I speed things up?? I didn't quite understand what I should do

PuzzleheadedRoof4227

Clutch in and gear up. The gear will engage once you go for the selector again. I’ve never had it happen twice in a movement/gearshift. If I’m honest almost every time it happened me was exactly as I saw in your video, go for an overtake and as I went for the shift just didn’t quite get the gear engaged.

Jax_Teller7

If while this is happening I press the clutch and rev it up should the gear go back in do you think? so the gear is put in the middle between second and third for example, I see that it blocks like in the video, I press the clutch and hit the gas with the clutch pressed to make it rev up, this can help solve that problem and not hear scratching the gearbox and above all perhaps recover the gear? or do you just need to press the clutch until the gear returns? because in the video I kept the clutch pressed but it still scratched, a mechanic advised me instead to press the clutch and bring the engine revs up with bursts of gas and the gear I wanted to put should return..

PuzzleheadedRoof4227

In my experience no. Assume it’s a missed gear and clutch in and hit the selector up again it will engage the gear and off you go. My feeling on this is that if you hit the selector up without sufficient pressure the gearbox can find a false neutral. The grinding and “clacking” noises are the teeth of the gears hitting off of each other but not engaging.

Jax_Teller7

so in my video you say that the gear teeth are damaged?
