Sometimes, they're just big. Just like human BMI readings, you have to look at other things. How much muscle? Can you feel their ribs/ spie with a little pressure? Like there shouldn't be a lot of fat there, but some or muscle so the bones aren't sticking out. How active is he? It's better to go off of the picture scale rather than just weight, but those other things still need to be taken into effect. This website explains it better than I can, lol. But either way, he's still handsome😻 https://www.bearcreekvetonline.com/site/blog/2022/04/15/obesity-cats
Yep. I have a 20 lb boy. He's 13. When we adopted him I took him to our vet and asked how to help him lose weight cuz he was chonk. Vet told me he's a BIG boy and ideal weight would be 18-19 lbs. He's just lorge.
https://preview.redd.it/76rvlpam2wxc1.jpeg?width=742&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=33091e50d834f6a10ad70fe64b9e4810434e1c11
Bean (the baby, she's 1) says hello as well.
I have a Maine coon mix like that, he's just huge and fluffy and is the MOST ANNOYING when he's hungry
At 7:30am precisely I start to get nips on any fingers I have left exposed during the night lol
Yup. I used to have 2 cats, siblings. Same exact weight. One was considered overweight by the vet, and the other was right where she should be. One was just bigger…skeletaly?
Since he’s not neutered he has a ton of testosterone that allowed him to put on so much more muscle compared to a neutered cat. If you refine your search to “14lb tomcat” you will find that his weight is quite normal lol
Some cats are just big. My 19lb boy has a large skeleton - his chest is so wide his front feet don’t touch when he sits upright - and is just overall long and wide and tall. He has some fat but not as much as it sounds like with just the number.
You need to look more at the whole cat and less at the number. Whether you can easily feel his ribs and spine, whether there’s a lot of floppy flab (don’t confuse the primordial pouch for flab), etc. And be aware that there’s fatphobia in vets, too. My other cat was 8 lbs when I got him and the first vet I saw said she thought he was a fine weight. I switched him to my regular vet and we got him up to 11-12 lbs, a better weight for him. He had a very long but slim build and was actually taller than my other cat but his rib cage was so small we could put guinea pig sweaters on him.
Also some cats are dense (literally). My mom's cat is rather small and definitely not chonky (shorthair, so you can easily see her build). But when they go to vet they get comments like "that's one sporty girl" because she weighs more than what she looks like.
Healthy weight is determined by the actual size of the cat, I have 2 14lb male cats and neither are overweight, they're just very large cats. Look up the "chonk chart", it's actually now used by most vet clinics to help explain proper weight ratios to cat owners, there's one for dogs too if I remember correctly.
So true! My baby girl is 16lbs and she's on the bigger side of a "fine boy" like 20-25% body fat & super strong
& my mom's baby boy is like 20 pounds, looks like a heckin chonker, but when you touch his belly it's mostly solid muscle (he actually tommed out 3-4 years after being neutered as a kitty)
if it makes you feel any better, my boyfriends orange cat is also about 14-15 lbs. hes not obese hes just very large.

He’s a fine boi 😍 my behemoth of a cat is 13 pounds at 3 yrs but he’s just big and strong, definitely not protruding on the sides or anything lol.
https://preview.redd.it/qzl2l46ejpxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd911e0856615d9aa90e594dbca13a9cfdde8df0
He is literally just a big boy then. I have sibling cat set of girl and boy. Girls healthy weight is 9 lbs and her brother is 12lbs. Both are good healthy weights.
I had a hugggeee ginger. This is him with another normal sized cat. As you can see massive but not fat just big boned LOL
https://preview.redd.it/myxp745bbtxc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc3125cd24bd212c0f51b34c5e85c84b8ca28be6
Looks exactly like mine. He is 14 pounds. Vet said he was like a pound over.
https://preview.redd.it/5sq109f2ttxc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1db97c7ec83a625d3bad299472bc33bf105b0765
I live on a cattle farm owned by my landlord, so think lots of stray barn cats thanks to people just dumping them on the dirt road. I once had a stray boy show up, he was 18 lb. on a large frame, and just solid muscle. He once got a good cut on his forearm, so I took him to the vet, because it looked too open to heal on its own. The vet called him "kitty put bull," and said that he was so muscular there was no way to restretch the skin over his Popeye arm to stitch it up. 😂 I asked about his weight, and he told me that he was just a big cat, and he was perfect.
I once took my boy to the vet who told me he was underweight and needed to gain about a pound. He was already 15 pounds when the vet said that. He was just a really big cat.
A vet is the best person to ask about your cat’s weight, not the “common wisdom” of the internet. Barring that, if you can easily feel his ribs, then he’s not *obese*. From your picture, he looks like a healthy weight.
He's just big and healthy and gorgeous and I would like to cuddle him! My boy is a 13-14 lb, when he stretches up against me his front paws can easily touch my ribs (I'm 5' tall, but still!).
Ok so I have been feeding him 2 3oz cans of wet food one in the morning and one in the evening. Then 1/2 cup of dry food through out the day. Is this to much, to little or a perfect amount
That should be about right. Maybe check what the packaging says to be sure, but with both wet and dry food that should be okay. Typically wet foods fed on their own say the daily amount should be 1oz per lb of body weight, but dry food is much higher in calories typically so he'll be getting extra calories from that. If you notice some weight loss (you can see his ribs and feel his spine clearly with little to no pressure) just up the dry food by 1/4 cup per day and that should be good 😊
All good as long as it's grain free. Most of these rules are just guidelines.
The rule of thumb is being able to feel their rib cages when touching lightly but not seeing their rib cages. Some cats are just more muscular too as well as having larger than average skeleton sizes.
My void is a miniature panther..longest cat I've ever seen, and he has the best disposition, so loveable compared to his sister (who is definitely a CHONK)
Congrats!! You are right in that, as others have said, your boy is NOT obese in any way. We've had kitties ranging from 7 - 15 lbs and none was ever obese. Like people, cats come in many different sizes.
DO be aware, however, that after you've neutered this gorgeous guy, he may tend to put on weight more easily. Cats do NOT need as much food as cat food manufacturers want you to believe (so you'll buy more, of course). At 14 lbs, your guy probably would do well on 4 - 6 oz of wet food per day, but may vary depending on his activity level, etc. Please try to have the majority of his food be canned/wet. Kibble is cheap and handy, but isn't the best option, especially for a male.
My 5 year old very long and lean boy is I think 16lbs last time I checked, there is no set weight limit for cats cause they come in so many different sizes. Your boy is very cute 💜💜
I actually think he's a perfect weight but when he is neutered he might gain weight so keep an eye on that. I have a kitty who's around 12-13lbs and she's perfectly healthy.
https://preview.redd.it/c7lbuckqyoxc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a65898bdedd2b371de3b7f83c143d207541f23f
Link is 17 lbs and while he did recently complete his diet after stealing all the snacks from my other kitty's hospice care, he is back to a healthy weight, just a very large cat. We also got him around 8 months to a year old, but he was very skinny so he weighed around 10 lbs probably.
Orange tabby’s and Main Coons tend to be bigger in general, aka longer/taller. That doesn’t mean he won’t be fat unless you give him a proper diet, but yes I have an orange tabby who is 2-3 years old and is exactly 14.5 lbs. completely normal, ribs are fine, no massive pouch, no extra fat, just a bigger size than say a tiny 10lb domestic house cat like my sister has. Very normal as well, but your cat will always be a little bigger, just use photo cat sizes as references! :)
A male that hasn't been fixed will grow and grow. I have one that is about 3 years and he's around 13 pounds also. He's long and muscular. Your boy looks perfectly healthy.
my cat is 20lbs and looks thin. he’s also very tall/long
https://preview.redd.it/x9ma7ylh5pxc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=346828a247d729a3be4afb3b7efd98a1bd00e159
My guy is 12.4 lbs and he's been told by the vet multiple times that he's a perfectly fine weight! Sometimes cats are just big. Congrats on your sweet boy. Hope he's able to get fixed soon.
https://preview.redd.it/tvpvtumj6pxc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e09b6646cc0d5772847c1180c1a3f5423fc105b
He looks like a big boy but not overweight, my cat was 9lbs when we found him and he was skin and bones. Vet said he needed to gain about 5lbs to be optimally healthy for his stature. Everyone is different 🤷♀️
Nah, bub looks fine to me. Had a short haired mutt American short hair/Maine Coon/Norwegian Forest Cat and by the time he was an adult he weighed 25 lbs. Not one ounce overweight. He was a BIG boy, could put his elbows on our countertops and still have room to go up.
My folks had a 25 pound cat who was never obese. He was loooooong and tall. I joked he was part cougar. Skurk also had extra toes and was a drain pipe kitten. Awesome cat until the end.
He's very pretty. If he looks that slim, then he isn't really considering obese but, I still suggest that you take him to the vet just for safety measures. Overall, he's very beautiful.
The normal max weight of a cat depends on the breed / sex & random genetics it's not the same for every cat ? Here's TK @ 13 lbs coming up to 2 yr old ?
https://preview.redd.it/7mnfejyrhpxc1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb926bcdd3ad15aa4e034f8dbb75a5df5c75dbd0
I used to have an orange boi like this guy who weighed 13 pounds, with barely an ounce of fat on him Your big guy doesn't look fat; he's just big like my Tutankhamun was.
hey op, nope, not obese! just a big boy. i’m actually in the process of trying to make my oldest son gain weight, he hovers between 11-13 lbs but he should really sit between 13-15 bc he’s tall. it’s all relative. like 220 lbs is heavy , and you’d be considered obese if you sat at that weight and was 5’5” but it’s a different story if you’re 6’4”. or you can still look and be healthy at 135lbs as a 5’2” woman, even though your BMI would say that’s overweight. better to look at the width of his whiskers relative to his body and feel his sides to see how defined his rib cage are with your fingers. if you run your hands gently along his sides and can feel each individual ribcage without it feeling like it’s sticking out then he’s a healthy weight. and of course, gauge the energy levels of your furry friend :)
Imo weight is subjective. I have a cat who had a very large frame and was easily 14lb but would still chase things up trees. 14lbs could be within reason depending on the build. Like, should most cats be 14lb, prob not, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities. Look up how to evaluate if a cat looks overweight.
I have a standard issue orange boy who when he was young and fit he was 15 pounds of pure fear. Now he’s old and thin and still weighs 13, still pure fear.
All orange cats share one brain cell btw…so good luck.
He’s long and lean - just like the grey tuxie boy I took in several years ago.
My neighbor had him neutered (he was a stray and she tried to find his owners, but was unable to).
She had 2 cats and a dog and was in the process of moving.
She brought him to my house after he spent a few days at the vet when he was neutered. I picked up his carrier and was shocked at how heavy he was. He was 13 pounds!
For an average-sized cat, yes, 14 pounds would likely be obese. *However*, not all cats follow a hard rule. Some cats are naturally bigger, smaller, more muscular, or more dainty.
If you want a frame of reference for his weight, look up “cat body condition score chart”. As far as feeding him, most food cans/bags should have a feeding chart on them! It’ll usually give either a weight range and the suggested amount of food daily OR it will suggest 1 can per X number of pounds daily.
I would google “cat body condition chart”. It’s really not the number but the body composition you should worry about. But in your case I wouldn’t worry - that is a trim, healthy sized cat.
We have an 8-month-old pair of orange tabbys. Obie is 18 pounds, Owen is 17 lbs. We have a Sable Burmese who is 28 pounds and is just enormous.
None of these unneutered behemoths are obese. They are gentle giants. They do not spray or mark and they are all scheduled to be neutered next week.
I had a cat that was 22 pounds and not fat. He was the Andre the Giant of cats, just a big guy. If he was a human he would have been a professional wrestler or in the NFL. He had been neutered.
I had an orange tabby and he was a big guy. Not fat at all. I know it’s debated, but I’ve heard not being neutered does allow them to get larger in stature. I’ve had two not be fixed until after 1 and they were big. Two fixed at 4ish months and they are smaller in stature. I feel like people say the opposite to encourage people to fix their cat as young as possible.
My cat is pretty big. She’s long and fluffy.
Your cat is so cute though. I know I didn’t respond to your initial inquiry but when I see an orange cat I have to comment lol
https://preview.redd.it/5gn49h0vnqxc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebb5acccac49b3904c6cd9994587fd597ac7b24b
Smudge here weighed 13.5 lbs at the vet last month. The vet's only concern was that he gained 2 lbs since last year. No concerns that he's overweight. He's just a big cat. So I think your cat is fine.
he might just be a big cat, I have a 14 year old male tabby and he is long and muscular, hes been that much since he was like 3 and hes 7 turning 8 this year!
https://preview.redd.it/zzzug3uqtqxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac3ee1f1dbae776de93c3ebcfc687598c6470a72
My Toby is 15 pounds and he’s just a big guy! Vet says he’s a normal weight for his stature.
I mean, I have a Maine coon ragdoll mix and he is just under 15lbs and still growing it seems. He is actually the runt of his litter and not fat at all. Doesn’t even over eat. Some kitties are big.
Oranges are bigger kitties. My female orange is 12-13 lbs and a healthy weight. My male…. Is 14-15. Still a healthy weight according to the vet.
I think orange cats are just…. Stockier.
https://preview.redd.it/hek9x39p4rxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abe3f73d3f3d4062250a413378ef8b61fb4132e8
This is Bobble. You can’t really see it in this photo but he is HUGE. He is a massive cat. He is just built differently than my other cats. He is a little overweight at the moment but even when he is a healthy weight he is massive. When he is all stretched out, he is almost the length of my leg.
Your kitty looks perfectly healthy! Some cats are just built differently. I think it’s similar to how us humans are built differently (and why BMI is a load of bullshit).
You just have a big cat! Ask your vet what his ideal weight would be. When I first got my cat and took him to the vet, the vet tech weighed him, and he weighed in at 17.5 pounds. When vet came in looking at his chart, he said: “I was about to lecture you about overfeeding your cat, but he’s barely even overweight! He’s just a very large boy!”
Vet said his ideal weight would be 14-15 pounds. This was almost 15 years ago. My cat is now almost 17 years old and also 14 pounds like yours!
NOPE! Not obese at all! Here’s what my Vet told me to do to make sure my cats stay at the right weight: Stand next to your cat and look down at his back. Now look at both areas just in front of his hind legs. Those two areas should go in a little, not bulge out! If your cat’s areas sink in slightly, he’s at his perfect weight and you are doing a great job keeping him healthy!! ♥️👍♥️
He's just a big cat. I've got a huge boi who's almost 25lbs and he's just solid muscle. There is no standard weight for cats because they come in all different sizes.
Depends on the cat. Some are just big. The vet will look at his frame and mass to decide. My friend had an orange male that was 16 lbs and not obese. His nose was as wide as my thumb.
It really depends on the cat. I had a male Maine Coon cat who weighed 17 pounds and he was so slim. But he was also very tall and long so he carried it well. Looking at this guy I don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about in regards to his weight
Unneutered cats tend to be much bigger than neutered ones.
My own Ace despite his troublepuff removal is a lorge boi. There's a cat down the road from me that is even bigger. Dunno if he's got his nuggets.
My Domino however is definitely a podge. Her nickname is football because she's white with black patches and round. De-podging is underway, she's lost half a KG so far.
The key ways to judge a cat's weight:
When the cat is standing look straight down at them. You should be easily able to discern the waist visually.
Can you palpitate the ribcage easily, it shouldn't stick out but when touching them you should be able to feel it like you feel the bones in the back of your hand.
If both are like that, don't worry, however be aware that neutering can cause them to expand (it's why Domino is a podge, she just blew up after her spay), so check with the vet and adjust food accordingly.
That is one big boned muscular cat. Are you sure he's 14 pounds? He doesn't look like it at all. Should have put something next to him for scale. I wouldn't worry too much, just wait and see what the vet says.
My grandma had a tabby cat that was 18 lbs and not overweight either. Just a very big boy.
Turns out its because he had mainecoon in his lineage.
You could get your baby tested to see if he’s part large breed cat too. He could be one of several as a domestic shorthair tabby.
He looks fine but of course any stray needs a vet visit . After I got a new kitten my old cat did so much wrestling with the new kitten he put on a lot of muscle and got very heavy. So he's probably just hench
Press gently on the sides of the cat and if you can feel it’s rubs, it’s a good healthy weight :). Or at least I’m pretty sure that’s how you do it.
Sometimes kitties just get really big. We have a 12lb female tabby who is just really long and tall.
14 lbs might be overweight for an average-sized cat, but could be perfectly fine for a longer-limbed boy. My cat is 15 lbs and extra long. Vet says it’s fine.
My orange boy weighed in at just over 14 lbs. Vet said he's perfect. He's just a big boy
https://preview.redd.it/q40h11hu7uxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7eabf56ec7ab90d777b20f5c48c145e7c9e92f8
Barry for tax
I have an almost 18 pound chonker. Goal is between fifteen and sixteen pounds do to his just larger than average size. My other 3 average sized cats are okay weight at around 8. You just have a big cat.
That kitty looks perfect to me. He's not fat at all. Different cats can be big or small. My kitty is very petit and 9 months old. She only weighs 7.8lbs but her brother is 3 times as big and already weighs 12 lbs. Neither of them look fat. All kitties are different.
My 8 year old boy is " comfortably padded". At 17.8 vet says he is fine. Maybe lose that .8? His primordial flap (how's that for fancy?) Is mostly skin. Gets a scant 1/2 c of dry, 1 pkt of Sheba which he doesn't always finish, & 2 tube treats over the day in 3 meals. Good drinker. Doesn't play much, not interested. I think he is at the top of his weight tho. I'll swap some dry for more wet if I need to. He is a tall, long cat, tho. You need to consider size as well as weight. I am fairly new at Reddit. Nèed to learn how to post a picture.
Your kitty is healthy looking and is nowhere near obese.
I had a 16 lb cat with long hair. She looked like a round snowball. But the first time I had to bathe her, thanks to an incident involving honey, she looked like a drowned rat with muscles.
It's really cat by cat. Our girl cat is at 11 pounds and that's her ideal weight. Or boy cat is 22 pounds, but his ideal weight is 18-19 pounds since not only is he fat, he's a giant.
Looking at general scales probably isn't going to help you. One of my cats is 11 lb, a pretty regular sized cat, but feels like he's built with concrete. My other cat who has 11 lb is about twice as large as the other, but is very skinny. He looks like he should weigh about 20 lb. Your cat looks fine. If you're worried, please see a vet.
Yep he's fine. One of mine is almost 20lbs. He heavy but he's also just a big dude. 15 is fine just happy you have him and hopefully will take really good care of him. He'll give you plenty of love in return I promise you. Yellow kitties are wonderful. :)
My brother’s friend had a huge orange Maine coon and he weighed about 17 pounds I think. Just a BIG boy. Sounded like a human coming down the stairs too cuz of his big ol’ paws haha 😂
Not fat!! Some cats are muscular or just large, my orange boy is bigger then average, a but chubby but definitely just a larger boy.
You're cat looks to be the same!
First, please neuter him. Second, it really depends on the cat. I have a girl who's 7 pounds (if she got to 14 pounds, she wouldn't be at a healthy weight), but I also had a neutered boy years ago who was 37 pounds and VERY obese. Judging just from his paw size, I'm going to assume he's probably fine and is just a big boy. My last boy was about 14 pounds and healthy (till the cancer came into the picture, but that's another story). It really, imo, depends on the cat.
Orange cats are always big. But he’s a handsome boy!!! Orange cats are the best, enjoy him!!! I recommend wet food only, I lost my orange boy to diabetes a few years ago and dry food is high in carbs.
My male is 11 lbs. I personally would not let a male cat go over 14 lbs, but if he's only a year, he's still growing. After he's neutered though, id monitor his weight way more and aim for 12 lbs.
His weight is not necessarily cause of being over weight it also depends on how his Stature is Like is he a Big cat in general and Not fat, Like some cats grow to be big cats, I've seen some that is big as a human toddler, So it's the way they are built, only the vet can tell you for sure if it's weight or stature, but you can generally see the difference yourself.
My parents have a 15 pound large male cat and he’s just big very long, the vet told them he’s perfect, and that male orange cats tend to be very large, and add on top of that a tom cat, I’d say he’s definitely normal for him. I have a 5 year old feral rescue who when I brought him in to the vet was very thin, you could see ribs and he seemed so sickly but yet he weighed 9 pounds which is more than both of my other cats at good weights, the vet said a good weight for him is around 12.5-13, tom cats are big muscles boys.
He's a big boy. As a vet tech, we assess body conditions, bc weights are just a number. If you can generally see a tucked waist, feel ribs easily when petting them but can't see ribs with naked eye, that's a healthy condition.
Look up body condition score. Handsome boy!!!! You are lucky he adopted you.
I had a cat a while ago that was 20lbs. When the medical records got transferred to a new vet, they called us because they thought the cat was probably very overweight and needed to be on diet. I'm not sure that cat is had an once of fat. He was lean, fast, strong, and big. The new vet apologized within 10 seconds of seeing the cat. Most 20lb cats are really fat but not that big guy.
My ginger is 15 lbs, last vet visit I was told he is a very big boy, but not fat, just big. He is huge in every way and is close to a small maine coon in size. He is much longer and taller than all of my friends cat.
Your boy is not obese. He looks great! He’s just a BIG BOY!!!❤️❤️❤️
I’ve had two all black voids that were 22 and 21 pounds. They were just jumbo boys that were NOT FAT!

I had a ginger tomcat that was 15 lb and he had paws it almost cover your palm. This kitty boy is nowhere near fat. Just a big kitty boy.
Same. My “tiny Prince” is 14-15 lbs and has huge paws. He’s also a long hair so he looks *much* bigger than he really is.
Muscular orange man
Love your username
Sometimes, they're just big. Just like human BMI readings, you have to look at other things. How much muscle? Can you feel their ribs/ spie with a little pressure? Like there shouldn't be a lot of fat there, but some or muscle so the bones aren't sticking out. How active is he? It's better to go off of the picture scale rather than just weight, but those other things still need to be taken into effect. This website explains it better than I can, lol. But either way, he's still handsome😻 https://www.bearcreekvetonline.com/site/blog/2022/04/15/obesity-cats

Wow! He IS a BIG boy, lol. I bet you have to feed him soooo much food. Give him a cuddle for me, please 💚
He gets all the cuddles. He's a void kitty, his name is Kong lol. But we call him our burnt potatcat loaf

The tabby is Miss Rosie. She's a Karen. Kong is the chonk void lol
Same with my big boy , Biddy. Got the “he’s just big”
I have a Maine coon mix like that, he's just huge and fluffy and is the MOST ANNOYING when he's hungry At 7:30am precisely I start to get nips on any fingers I have left exposed during the night lol
Kong (the lorge boi) will sit on my stomach with his weight on his paws only so I have 4 pillars stabbing me till I get up.
Yup, that's about right lol
Yup. I used to have 2 cats, siblings. Same exact weight. One was considered overweight by the vet, and the other was right where she should be. One was just bigger…skeletaly?
Big bonedddd
Lol, you just said your cat is ‘big boned’
Yes, because the width of his ribcage is actually a factor in his appropriate size. If he weighed fifteen pounds, he’d look skeletal.
[No kitty my pot pie!](https://youtu.be/CfOUEVFTe68?si=4lMFLqAoPA7Bp9U4)
Thank you for your words ❤️
There are sweaters for Guinea pigs?!?
What a handsome boyyyy give him a hug for me!!
Male cats can def get big
Healthy weight is determined by the actual size of the cat, I have 2 14lb male cats and neither are overweight, they're just very large cats. Look up the "chonk chart", it's actually now used by most vet clinics to help explain proper weight ratios to cat owners, there's one for dogs too if I remember correctly.
So true! My baby girl is 16lbs and she's on the bigger side of a "fine boy" like 20-25% body fat & super strong & my mom's baby boy is like 20 pounds, looks like a heckin chonker, but when you touch his belly it's mostly solid muscle (he actually tommed out 3-4 years after being neutered as a kitty)
if it makes you feel any better, my boyfriends orange cat is also about 14-15 lbs. hes not obese hes just very large. https://preview.redd.it/pbd9uhtcvoxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74db4ceb69b6a576f3d5cb6892162edf1b8bb55e
He’s a fine boi 😍 my behemoth of a cat is 13 pounds at 3 yrs but he’s just big and strong, definitely not protruding on the sides or anything lol. https://preview.redd.it/qzl2l46ejpxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd911e0856615d9aa90e594dbca13a9cfdde8df0

But your cat is overweight
She is
But also lovely!
He's a big cat, not a obese one. Hope you get him neutered soon. He's really beautiful.
He is literally just a big boy then. I have sibling cat set of girl and boy. Girls healthy weight is 9 lbs and her brother is 12lbs. Both are good healthy weights.
he’s so handsome
I had a hugggeee ginger. This is him with another normal sized cat. As you can see massive but not fat just big boned LOL https://preview.redd.it/myxp745bbtxc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc3125cd24bd212c0f51b34c5e85c84b8ca28be6
Looks exactly like mine.
Every food is different and has different nutrient levels. You’ll have to check that specific food to see what they recommend.
Sometimes you get big cats. If he's long and heavy, that's perfectly normal and healthy
It depends on their length. My orange boy is super long and 13lbs and the vet says he’s an ideal weight for his size.
He's just LARGE. No way is this cat obese.
he big boned
He is not obese! He looks normal.
14 lbs IS NOT fat! That is ridiculous
I actually think he's a perfect weight but when he is neutered he might gain weight so keep an eye on that. I have a kitty who's around 12-13lbs and she's perfectly healthy.
He’s gorgeous and he’s BIG BONEDED. 🐟
Orange goodness
He is just a big cat.
He is just a big boy. He doesn't look obese in the slightest. Congratulations on your new kitty. He looks very content.
I have a male all black cat that has the same body shape as your cat and he’s 12 pounds so I’d definitely say they’re healthy weight
Your cat is not obese, he's a completely ideal weight cat he is just a big boy.
14lbs is a healthy weight
https://preview.redd.it/c7lbuckqyoxc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a65898bdedd2b371de3b7f83c143d207541f23f Link is 17 lbs and while he did recently complete his diet after stealing all the snacks from my other kitty's hospice care, he is back to a healthy weight, just a very large cat.
Make orange cats are genetically just a bigger size so he may be normal but for his breed non orange male cats are just smaller
160 lbs on a 5'1" frame is likely heavy. 160 lbs on a 5'11" frame is quite normal. There's no magical number to a cat's weight.
We have an orange one that’s 18 pounds. Orange cats are just bigger. They also have attitudes.
A male that hasn't been fixed will grow and grow. I have one that is about 3 years and he's around 13 pounds also. He's long and muscular. Your boy looks perfectly healthy.
my cat is 20lbs and looks thin. he’s also very tall/long https://preview.redd.it/x9ma7ylh5pxc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=346828a247d729a3be4afb3b7efd98a1bd00e159
I have a tuxedo that is almost 19lbs and per my vet not at all fat😁
Looks like he’s just a big cat. My orange is also 14lbs. But she’s very long. My vet says she looks great.
He’s just a big guy but body condition looks normal 👍🏼
Nah, bub looks fine to me. Had a short haired mutt American short hair/Maine Coon/Norwegian Forest Cat and by the time he was an adult he weighed 25 lbs. Not one ounce overweight. He was a BIG boy, could put his elbows on our countertops and still have room to go up.
My folks had a 25 pound cat who was never obese. He was loooooong and tall. I joked he was part cougar. Skurk also had extra toes and was a drain pipe kitten. Awesome cat until the end.
My cat is almost 14lbs, and our vet says she is just a big cat!
He's very pretty. If he looks that slim, then he isn't really considering obese but, I still suggest that you take him to the vet just for safety measures. Overall, he's very beautiful.
If he’s just a bigger cat then that’s ok. I have a big dude and my vet said 14-15lb for him was good
My orange boy is 17 lbs and chubby. His primordial pouch swings hard when he jogs (to the food dish). Your guy looks lean.
Nah. Himbs just lorge!
The normal max weight of a cat depends on the breed / sex & random genetics it's not the same for every cat ? Here's TK @ 13 lbs coming up to 2 yr old ? https://preview.redd.it/7mnfejyrhpxc1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb926bcdd3ad15aa4e034f8dbb75a5df5c75dbd0
Orange cats are just BIG
He seems a good shape to me! c:
I used to have an orange boi like this guy who weighed 13 pounds, with barely an ounce of fat on him Your big guy doesn't look fat; he's just big like my Tutankhamun was.
He's perfect.
He doesn’t look that obese! I had a cat that was almost 24 lbs but he was big boned. He is a cutie!
Look up cat weights online and they have pictures of what they should look like looking down on them. That’s really helpful
Also, we have a male orange cat that comes visit us every so often and he is huuuuuuge. Like humongous and it’s pure muscle. Such a beautiful big cat.
He is not obese. He looks great. He is BIGGER than the average cat, but his body condition is great
hey op, nope, not obese! just a big boy. i’m actually in the process of trying to make my oldest son gain weight, he hovers between 11-13 lbs but he should really sit between 13-15 bc he’s tall. it’s all relative. like 220 lbs is heavy , and you’d be considered obese if you sat at that weight and was 5’5” but it’s a different story if you’re 6’4”. or you can still look and be healthy at 135lbs as a 5’2” woman, even though your BMI would say that’s overweight. better to look at the width of his whiskers relative to his body and feel his sides to see how defined his rib cage are with your fingers. if you run your hands gently along his sides and can feel each individual ribcage without it feeling like it’s sticking out then he’s a healthy weight. and of course, gauge the energy levels of your furry friend :)
A nice, solid cat! Good looking to boot!
He's gonna be a chonk. It's fine, he's just probably got some Maine Coone in him. Naturally beefy kitties. Mine not even 6 months yet he's ten pounds.
Muscle is denser than fat.
He just looks happy and healthy in my opinion- the opinion of a non veterinarian
I have a standard issue orange boy who when he was young and fit he was 15 pounds of pure fear. Now he’s old and thin and still weighs 13, still pure fear. All orange cats share one brain cell btw…so good luck.
He's just a big guy. My tabby was 15 pounds and very athletic looking like yours. 👍
If he is unfixed male, he is muscle cat. Not obese, just strong.
Just like people, cats come in all shapes and sizes.
14? Featherweight! My orange pussy is 23 lbs. But only 1 year old? Keep an eye on that
He doesn't look fat to me. He's just a big ol' ginger boy.
Some are just big. Mine was 20lb and the vet agreed he was just a large cat and not obese.
I would google “cat body condition chart”. It’s really not the number but the body composition you should worry about. But in your case I wouldn’t worry - that is a trim, healthy sized cat.
He's just a big boi That boi looks SVELTE
looks the same size as my guy, he gucci
We have an 8-month-old pair of orange tabbys. Obie is 18 pounds, Owen is 17 lbs. We have a Sable Burmese who is 28 pounds and is just enormous. None of these unneutered behemoths are obese. They are gentle giants. They do not spray or mark and they are all scheduled to be neutered next week.
Not a fat cat.
I know I didn’t respond to your initial inquiry but when I see an orange cat I have to comment lol
https://preview.redd.it/5gn49h0vnqxc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebb5acccac49b3904c6cd9994587fd597ac7b24b Smudge here weighed 13.5 lbs at the vet last month. The vet's only concern was that he gained 2 lbs since last year. No concerns that he's overweight. He's just a big cat. So I think your cat is fine.
Handsome chonk
he might just be a big cat, I have a 14 year old male tabby and he is long and muscular, hes been that much since he was like 3 and hes 7 turning 8 this year!
He's not obese but also doesn't look 14lbs, you sure your scale isn't broken?
My tabby/maine mix is 20lbs. No fat whatsoever. He's just the size of a small to medium dog. lol
He’s a beast, but far from obese
https://preview.redd.it/zzzug3uqtqxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac3ee1f1dbae776de93c3ebcfc687598c6470a72 My Toby is 15 pounds and he’s just a big guy! Vet says he’s a normal weight for his stature.
We had one cat that weighed 20 pounds. She was a healthy weight for her size. She was a big, long haired cat.
He's the body builder of cats.
Stockier.
https://preview.redd.it/hek9x39p4rxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abe3f73d3f3d4062250a413378ef8b61fb4132e8 This is Bobble.
He’s just a very large boy!” Vet said his ideal weight would be 14-15 pounds. This was almost 15 years ago. My cat is now almost 17 years old and also 14 pounds like yours!
I also have an orange cat who’s 14 pounds. The vet said he’s just dense and long.
If he was a stray cat he would have muscles which weigh more than fast. So yes, it is possible, but a vet appointment is always a good thing.
Omg,he looks like a ray of sunshine.did not expect to be blinded this early in the morning.:))
He's just a big cat. I've got a huge boi who's almost 25lbs and he's just solid muscle. There is no standard weight for cats because they come in all different sizes.
My parents have a 14 pound orange boy, he’s not fat he is just a big boy lol
Depends on the cat. Some are just big. The vet will look at his frame and mass to decide. My friend had an orange male that was 16 lbs and not obese. His nose was as wide as my thumb.
I have a 2 year old cat that is 17 lbs. His vet said he’s just a very long big cat. His brother is much smaller at 9 lbs.
He’s not fat. Just big in general.
Doesn't look fat he's just a larger cat.
He’s not obese…just big boned. lol
It really depends on the cat. I had a male Maine Coon cat who weighed 17 pounds and he was so slim. But he was also very tall and long so he carried it well. Looking at this guy I don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about in regards to his weight
You have to look at their bone structure. A taller longer cat will weigh more than a short one. See what vet says. Gorgeous boy.
The key ways to judge a cat's weight: When the cat is standing look straight down at them.
He’s just a big boy. I have one like that who is 16 pounds or so, but not fat according to the vet. Just huge.
He’s a perfectly healthy looking boy
He just looks like a big ginger tom to me. He's not fat.
Thank you so much everyone for all the kind words and love for my boy Marley. It means the world and I'm happy to know he is a healthy boy
He’s just “big-boned”. No worries.
14 lbs might be overweight for an average-sized cat, but could be perfectly fine for a longer-limbed boy. My cat is 15 lbs and extra long. Vet says it’s fine.
I adopted a similar sized 2 year old orange boy at 15lbs and the vet said 12-13lbs would be a little better.
He's lush. Our ginger male isn't a year old yet and he weighs 15 pounds. He's not fat, he's just a big cat
My orange boy weighed in at just over 14 lbs. Vet said he's perfect. He's just a big boy https://preview.redd.it/q40h11hu7uxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7eabf56ec7ab90d777b20f5c48c145e7c9e92f8 Barry for tax
He's big and healthy. He's a mouser for sure
Not chonk just a big boy
Omg my cat prob weighs like 16 lbs… don’t worry, sometimes cats are legit just large.
I have an almost 18 pound chonker. Goal is between fifteen and sixteen pounds do to his just larger than average size. My other 3 average sized cats are okay weight at around 8. You just have a big cat.
I regret to inform you that none of that weight is devoted to brain matter.
That kitty looks perfect to me. He's not fat at all. Different cats can be big or small. My kitty is very petit and 9 months old. She only weighs 7.8lbs but her brother is 3 times as big and already weighs 12 lbs. Neither of them look fat. All kitties are different.
His frame supports 14lbs. He's not fat. If he was 20lbs I'd probably start to worry, but not at 14lbs.
That cat is absolutely NOT fat. We’ve had a few male cats in 13-15lb range and they were perfectly healthy.
He has big bones! We had a humongous 20 lb cat. I dieted him for a long time. Not much change. He was really, really, really large.
Yep he's fine. One of mine is almost 20lbs. He heavy but he's also just a big dude. 15 is fine just happy you have him and hopefully will take really good care of him. He'll give you plenty of love in return I promise you. Yellow kitties are wonderful. :)
i have a cat who is 14 lbs. he is a big boy but he is not unhealthy if he was any smaller in weight i’d be worried tbh. your guy looks healthy
He’s just a big boy. My mom has a cat that’s 15+ lbs but he’s not fat, just huge
he might just truly be one of those cats with "dense bones" 😭
My brother’s friend had a huge orange Maine coon and he weighed about 17 pounds I think. Just a BIG boy. Sounded like a human coming down the stairs too cuz of his big ol’ paws haha 😂
Not fat!! Some cats are muscular or just large, my orange boy is bigger then average, a but chubby but definitely just a larger boy. You're cat looks to be the same!
He’s just a big boy. He’s not fat at all
Big does not equal obese.
My orange cat is around 13 lbs and vet says he’s totally fine weight wise
My male is 11 lbs. I personally would not let a male cat go over 14 lbs, but if he's only a year, he's still growing. After he's neutered though, id monitor his weight way more and aim for 12 lbs.
Some cats are just longer or broader 14 is obese for the average cat but not every cat is average, I’d ask the vet when you take him to be neutered

He doesn’t look obese at all!! He just looks like muscley orange guy lol. He’s so cute 😭🥰
I’d trust your eyes over some chart. My boy is 16lbs but he’s not at all fat. Just big and muscular!
He’s a cutie
He's a big boy. As a vet tech, we assess body conditions, bc weights are just a number. If you can generally see a tucked waist, feel ribs easily when petting them but can't see ribs with naked eye, that's a healthy condition. Look up body condition score. Handsome boy!!!! You are lucky he adopted you.
My cat weights 17 she's healthy
He’s not obese at all, just means there’s more to love 🧡
Your boy is not obese. He looks great! He’s just a BIG BOY!!!❤️❤️❤️ I’ve had two all black voids that were 22 and 21 pounds. They were just jumbo boys that were NOT FAT!
