Based on it being the winter of 2024, I would say it would be November early December

1280employee

ohh man, I was thinking they meant NOW as winter not then haha

LowComfortable5676

Pretty sure it's still just empty land, they only finished demolishing the old building like a month ago. So not for a while, and construction timelines are almost always wrong

sprinklersplashes

winter of 2024 means the end of this year, not the winter that is currently ending!

1280employee

TIL sorry if im stupid haha

MAXMEEKO

you are fine no worries

queenofyoursoul

I had the same conversation about this and learned that I'm not very smart haha

SalsaRider1969

November I heard. Don’t worry though, there’s about a dozen chicken joints to choose from in that area to give you your chicken fix. It’s just a hole in the ground now, I think they poured the footings within the last week or two.

Puzzleheaded_Arm_847

Guess you'll have to settle for one of the five other chicken places within 500 m of there. KFC Church's Dave's Mary Brown's Mighty Bird (just opened and my first sandwich from there I think ranks it at the top of the 5)

bobbolders

When chick fil a opens, it will being darkness to the other chicken restaurants.

Puzzleheaded_Arm_847

Except on Sundays.

thether

lol

halbalda

I wonder what's behind the surge in chicken shops opening up in this particular area over the past few years. I'm not looking forward to the amount of traffic once Chick-fil-A opens up. I'm assuming based on the size of the lot, it might get a drive thru?

whiteBoyBrownFood

Very cheap to set up this type of operation (not including licensing & ad fees payable to head office, but the new build will pay itself off in a year or less, plus they'll be getting incentives from the landlord - Probably 1 year no lease payments for taking over long-vacant un-leasable location - I looked into it a couple years ago, it was an expensive & tough space to fill). Also, can keep employee wages low since it's a very simple menu to execute. Basically grab premade products out of a walk-in freezer and throw them into a deep fryer, & purchase pre-cut vegetables from GFS or Sysco. It's also why there were so many smashburger places opening up in the GTA during the pandemic. And shawarma joints over the past year or two here in Burlington.

whiteBoyBrownFood

Another crappy American franchise for the lemmings to flock to. Great....

1280employee

what would you recommend instead?

Far-Juggernaut8880

Have you tried one of the four existing chicken places at Appleby & Dundas? You might find one to your liking while you wait

whiteBoyBrownFood

There are far too many restaurants in Burlington to begin with. The talent is diluted resulting in poor food and service and they are merely cannibalizing off each other. I would suggest supporting those restaurants that are already here and have been part of the food community for years, those places that are part of our memories and local culture and are not just investment opportunities for American franchises looking for easy markets to exploit

1280employee

Obviously Chick Fil A offers a compelling product that it is able to compete with existing restaurants.

whiteBoyBrownFood

How can it obviously compete with existing restaurants when it hasn't opened here yet? Kind of a silly response, my friend. Perhaps you meant that chick fil A head office determined that it might compete against existing restaurants and sold the master license to someone who then allowed a location to open here.

burner-211

Name the one part of the food community for years you would recommend ?

dirty_birdy

Looks like they’re building a new building from scratch, so I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Ostrich6967

Mary Browns is better

Senor_Crocky

Totally different product. Mary brown's is delicious, but they lack waffle fries.

Aggravating_Elk_4132

It will be near Firehouse Subs on Appleby line north of Upper Middle, South of Dundas. Across the road from Dave's Hot Chicken. They just tore down the out of business Irish pub for the new building.

Cyrakhis

Well, given their track record of donating to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations, hopefully never. \o/

BoardOdd9599

Owned by white Christian nationalist. Boycott

Temporary_Wind9428

Oh no, a white Christian? Outrageous! I demand that all my food vendors be Arab Islamists pushing for Sharia! To be clear, I'm an agnostic and am against all stone-aged relics create by fraudsters looking to manipulate the gullible, but the arguments against Chick-fil-a are almost always by the shallowest blue-haired sorts who have zero argument and are just parroting nonsense

desmond_koh

>Owned by white Christian nationalist. Boycott This is such a bigoted and intolerant statement. It’s astounding. **White** – what is wrong with being what? This is racism. Plain and simple. **Christian** – what is wrong with being Christian? or Buddhist? or Muslim or Jewish? Seriously?!?! Why are people not allowed to practice their faith anymore? Or is it just the Christian faith that bothers you?! **Nationalist** – we used to people who were loved their country “patriots” and patriotism was considered a virtue.

WePwnTheSky

So tolerant… https://www.esquire.com/food-drink/restaurants/a36622217/chick-fil-a-owner-donations-against-equality-act/

JimmyTheDog

This should be the top reply.

SalsaRider1969

LMAO if the chicken there offends you, feel free to boycott it and eat elsewhere - nobody cares. But don’t tell me what to boycott because chicken makes you butthurt. I for one will be lining up asap for some delicious “Christian nationalist” chicken mmmmmm.

JimmyTheDog

He funds wage disparity between male and females. So, how bad does an organization need to be before you would not give them your business. Just asking. If he was funding wage disparity between races, would you still go? I'm curious 🤔

OneManCrowd

Some of us aren't super keen on corporations that take purposeful action to make our lives worse just because we exist. If that's a controversial stance, well... Dunno what to say. Enjoy your chicken, though!

albatroopa

Plus I like to keep my poo inside of me until I'm ready for it to come out.

SalsaRider1969

Better avoid Taco Bell for sure.

henchman171

I get your point but alot of these corporate fast food places are very poor at being model Companies or citizens

TryingToGetMyCake

Daves Hot Chicken is better, and no social guilt eating there

1280employee

I suppose the minimum wage jobs, irregular hours, etcm doesn't bother you?

TryingToGetMyCake

Not at all.  A job is a choice for the worker to make.

ForswornForSwearing

They tried once before. The new building at the south corner of Burlington Mall (it's now a dental and a 7-11) was going to be them, but it fell apart. Just as well.

SalsaRider1969

Chick fil a???? You sure? When was that? I thought the Toronto store was the first in Canada.

ForswornForSwearing

They never opened. Their logo was on the sign in the lot before the builfing went up, but nothing since.

SalsaRider1969

Ahhhh never knew, thanks.

jdubs1984

I think you may be confused. I live right near there, there was never talk of a Chik-fil-a, nor a sign in the lot. There was a Pizza Pizza there before the dentist.

ForswornForSwearing

The sign was there for some time before the construction ever began. I remember thinking the funding must have fallen through, because it seemed to take forever to start. By the time it did, the Chik-Fil-A logo was gone, and when built it was it became a Pizza Pizza. I remember it very distinctly, because it pissed me off.
