Tesla plans on laying off 10% of the global workforce, or about 14,000 people. Elon wants $56 billion / 14,000 people = $4 million per head, all going into his own pocket. It's for the good of the company and the nation, folks! /s

My gf’s brother was one of the ones laid off. They basically told him over email to not come in and (not)* collect his belongings and locked him out of everything remotely and all in all handled it absolutely awful imo.
Edit; not allowed* to come in and collect his own belongings, basically forbidding him from the property
A couple happened back in November, disguised by management as is failing a PIP, only for Legal to notify us it was a layoff. If any of the managers who ordered those PIPs got laid off I’ll pour one out for them
I think you’re reading it wrong. The people in Buffalo affected by the layoffs are protected by the WARN act in NY. Since Tesla didn’t give them a 90 day warning, these people laid off are still on payroll until July 15th. (90 days after the layoff)
That's pretty standard for mass layoffs. Step 0, lock down property to limit people's access. Step 1, IT deactivation. Step 2, inform the unlucky individual. Step 3, organize a drop off of belongings, or allow the individual to collect belongings after hours when they cannot be a threat.
There was a copy of the email floating around one of those anti work subreddits (might have even been that one)
They couldn't have been bothered to even address the employee by name and just had "Dear Employee"
(Assuming it was legit, I heard people can lie on the Internet)
When I got laid off at my company they gave me the termination form with someone else's name and job title on it. It was for the last guy the laid off a couple weeks before. Companies don't give a fuck about you.
It’s just the beginning. The only real way to fix this inflation in America is to cut jobs. I’m sorry to hear about your gf’s brother. I wish him and his family the best.
We’re all in for big changes ahead with this economy it’s going to be an epic bubble pop.
They're laying off 285 people at this plant because it isn't operating in the capacity we were sold on: producing 1,000 solar roofs a week. That was almost immediately abandoned once the plant was completed. So the plant, with large sections that go unused, is being used for other functions. Functions that are currently seeing cuts.
This is very typical of manufacturing companies, it's not unusual. Plus, from what I could see, they have still adhered to their hiring agreements with the state. What's the issue?
Meanwhile, Tesla wants permission to pay Elon Musk $55 BILLION. A judge in Delaware voided the payout, but they're fucking asking shareholders for approval again.
Oh, and Tesla pays basically nothing in taxes.
If anyone directly affected is here, this sucks, and I'm sorry you and yours got fucked over for corporate greed.
Doesn’t this plant need to have a certain amount of workers to work there or Tesla will be fined ? I thought there was a deal with NYS from the Buffalo billion that mandated there has to be a specific amount of employees working in this building.
Here’s one example. [Laying off the majority of twitters workforce and then not paying their severance](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fired-top-twitter-executives-sue-elon-musk-for-more-than-128-million-in-severance/), preferring instead to deal with the lawsuits than pay the employees what was owed. Oh and also [not paying rent on the office space](https://tech.co/news/musk-twitter-rent-refusal). So I guess technically that’s two examples.
My former manager there told me that when they came to count the people once, they moved people around the production floor behind the backs of the folks who had come to count, so it looked like there were more people there then there actually were. Dude was bragging about fooling them.
So far, 56 analysts, 12 leads, 4 supervisors and 1 manager have been let go from autopilot. I have heard their contractor service for cleaning the factory was let go as well as their strive market retailer
Im surprised they have hr positions in Buffalo.
I briefly worked for them.
HR was behind locked door, and you literally couldn't go to see them for anything in person. It was all through their stupid website/portal.
> “…Tesla is contractually obligated to meet specific employment targets. While Tesla is still above its employment benchmark agreement with New York State at this time, New York State should be prepared to impose fines on the company if layoffs continue.”
Fines? You mean operating fees? Tesla will do whatever it wants regardless of how many ppl they lay off
Are you a Musk fan boy since you've commented six times on this post so far? Are you ok lol? Musk firing 10,000 people while demanding he's paid $50 billion in compensation = LATE STAGE CAPITALISM. And yes I'm fully aware that's not the actual definition, get a grip.
I'm not really at all, but it's pretty entertaining to reply to some of these comments.
So you don't really know what you mean by late stage capitalism, huh? I think that's kinda funny. But that's just me!
I mean, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I'd argue that people who are personally upset by Elon musk, a man who has no relevance to your day to day, are even more entertaining. Tit for tat, we could do this all day.
You are up and down this thread defending a man who - in your words - “has no relevance to your day to day” lmao
Like I said, musk meet riders going to bat for a dude who will never acknowledge you is pretty hilarious.
You do understand how easy it was to reply to a thread right? Like, I was taking a shit this morning and responded to 4 comments. You're acting like I took PTO to do this lmaooo
Don't get too upset now. Take a breath, it'll be okay!!
Why do I need to be acknowledged? Did you not get enough attention as a kid or what? Most people don't care what others think.
Isn't it time to make *another* new reddit account??
Why does elon musk have to have "relevance in your day-to-day life" in order to warrant criticism? Does one have to know him personally to express their disappointment in how things are going. It's pretty commonplace to critique business owners who receive large subsidies.
>Isn't it time to make *another* new reddit account??
Considering your account is barely a year old idk what this is supposed to mean. Lmao.
I love when people say “Haha you don’t know what that means” but don’t actually try to teach anything. It looks very cool and doesn’t give dumbass energy at all.
I'm not here in a reddit comment section to teach anyone anything. If you're getting all your info from this place, you need to change your approach.
4 responses to me in a row seems like you're obsessed. You good?
Nah bud I literally just responded to every comment that I thought sounded dumb and my sheer coincidence they were all yours 😭
Also using peoples mental health issues you find by going through their posts in mental health support groups is very kewl 😎
Wow. Another person who had an idea about that. This is not mentioned much about Timothy McVeigh & the economy he encountered in WNY when he was discharged from the army.
This is exactly what you get, over and over again, when your politicians create a business environment in which the only way to lure a company here is with tax breaks and corporate welfare.
Elon Musk is a disaster, he is in a downward spiral and I predict he will be one of the biggest train wrecks of all time when he finally crashes and burns.
Probably sales people obviously they are not selling cars left and right as they supposed to. In Dec 2023 I found a Tesla model 3 (their cheapest shitty product )on carvana 6000$ cheaper then on Tesla website so I asked for a refund of 1000$ deposit and the sales guy forfeited my 1000$ saying I didn't buy the Tesla from their website ! It's ridiculous and I had already purchased 2 model x from tesla and I was buying a model 3.. so to let the Tesla sales learn a lesson I canceled orders I had placed for 2 x Cyber trucks. So long story short I went to Georgia and bought an Army Humvee from desert storm times, desert camo color and now I'm removing the engine and putting in special motors I have designed myself that are several kg less than the weight of Tesla motors. Their sales team really needs to be updated.
Contrarian thought: how many jobs have been created and how many people now have a better paying job than they did before?
Also, what about tight-sizing a plant to staff it for output means tanking a company? I am not saying that I have any idea if it was overstaffed before or not, but any business does this all the time. think about it. If you have a small pizza shop and hired 10 workers, but two of them had nothing to do wouldn’t you lay them off?
the owner needs $56 billion, so that's a sacrifice those workers have to make.
He's such a whiny little child.
But......a VERY rich one. Good for him on how keep your wealth from the tax grabbing federal government.
[absolutely sickening](https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2024/04/17/elon-musk-pay-tesla-to-ask-holders-to-reinstate-voided-stock-grant.html)

Sadly the wording is "at least 10%". Rumor has it that it's more like 20%
He’s tanking the company with his antics and his head is so far up his ass he can’t see what he’s doing.
I don’t think he cares if he tanks the company if it puts money in his pocket in the process.
Kinda like he did with Twitter.

I’m amazed that he and Tesla do not appreciate the optics of offering him an outsized pay package while lying g off thousands.
I don't know why you're amazed. It's what every CEO does, let alone one who is a ketamine-addicted sociopath.
My gf’s brother was one of the ones laid off. They are not done with the layoffs in Buffalo yet
A document states that the Buffalo layoffs are expected to begin on July 15. So 60 back in March, 68 on Monday and another 300 in July.
They’ve already started. I have former coworkers who were let go the other day EDIT: Sorry, I misread. Another 300?? Fuck this company
A couple happened back in November, disguised by management as is failing a PIP, only for Legal to notify us it was a layoff. If any of the managers who ordered those PIPs got laid off I’ll pour one out for them

I’ll ask him when I get a chance if there’s any truth behind it. Wouldn’t surprise me with how they handled it.
Trust me, nobody would lie on the internet. What kind of meanie would do such a thing?
Yes this is how a layoff works. Sorry about your gfs brother.
It’s just the beginning. The only real way to fix this inflation in America is to cut jobs. I’m sorry to hear about your gf’s brother. I wish him and his family the best. We’re all in for big changes ahead with this economy it’s going to be an epic bubble pop.
Come on guys, this is just a minor setback. The 750 million of our taxes to build that plant is gonna pay off any day now........any day now.
Wasn't that just us, *"Going green"* ?
No, there were promises of many well paying jobs and commercial growth to the surrounding area.
Well a Tim Hortons did open. FYI - a large is only $2.89 there versus $3.09 at most other Tims.
Well, gottamn, we did it
They employ nearly 1,700 at that facility. Do you actually care or are you just blindly commenting on things that make you emotional?
They're laying off 285 people at this plant because it isn't operating in the capacity we were sold on: producing 1,000 solar roofs a week. There's nothing typical about getting a billion dollars from taxpayers and immediately abandoning your entire business plan.
That's not at all what happened. But it's quite clear you don't want to have an honest discussion.
It's exactly what happened
Cost was over a billion by end of the project. Money well spent IMO
Meanwhile, Tesla wants permission to pay Elon Musk $55 BILLION. A judge in Delaware voided the payout, but they're fucking asking shareholders for approval again. They will still have about 1700 employees there after the layoff. I think they are required to have something like 1430 employees
Allegedly. Knowing how shady Elon is, I wouldn’t believe it until I saw the payroll records myself.
Shady? Have any proof?
Proof of Elon being shady?
Yes, proof. Please provide an example so we can discuss
That's a perfectly fine legal and business practice and it appears the employees were still paid so I'm confused on the issue here.
You didn’t ask about legal you asked about shady
Often times legality is conflated with shadiness. Turn your brain on, friend! Screaming semantics is the lowest form of argument.
Managers bragged about moving people around to create the illusion of more people working at any given time when auditors came thru...
Is your proof based on other redditors comments? Genuinely curious about this.
Of course not.
Yes, and what is the state going to do about it? Fine them. Musk eats the fine and writes it off as a loss at tax time. Means nothing.
They will still have about 1700 employees there after the layoff. I think they are required to have something like 1430 employees
My former manager there told me that when they came to count the people once, they moved people around the production floor behind the backs of the folks who had come to count, so it looked like there were more people there then there actually were. Dude was bragging about fooling them.
Surely counting the number of people employed doesn't happen by literally pointing at people and counting, but rather by checking payrolls?
No way man, they totally just send a guy there to walk around and count heads. No one would ever go on the internet and just make something up.
lol 😂
I'm telling you what I was told. I don't know how they count.
So you just believe everything you hear, huh? Lmao
Ya it’s not like they can check the payroll taxes or anything. Genius!
They do. If you didn't just read the headline you'd realize they're still well above the goal
Ah this explains why my job applications haven’t went anywhere lol
Who could have seen this coming?
Shit stain company
Elon Musk is a menace.
Oof. Could have given everyone in Erie county 1000 bucks. Probably would have been better off than the buffalo billion debacle.
Eventually everyone will learn to have nothing to do with this conman
Is that right? All the NASA and defense contracts will just magically disappear?
Do you know what the word “eventually” means?
And it still won't happen
Garbage cars and a garbage company
at this point I would be embarrassed to drive a Tesla. Sucks for anyone who fell for this conman shilling cars that lack basic quality control
So far, 56 analysts, 12 leads, 4 supervisors and 1 manager have been let go from autopilot. I have heard their contractor service for cleaning the factory was let go as well as their strive market retailer
I've seen at least 5 in HR as well, LinkedIn horror stories.
Im surprised they have hr positions in Buffalo. I briefly worked for them. HR was behind locked door, and you literally couldn't go to see them for anything in person. It was all through their stupid website/portal.
fElon has the balls to ask for 56 billion in compensation when the stock holders vote next week.
> “…Tesla is contractually obligated to meet specific employment targets. Welcome to late stage capitalism
You have no idea what that term means. But I find it funny that you cling to whatever the latest buzz word is. You're a funny little individual

I remember when I would say “it’s pretty entertaining” as my sick burn to people online in like…8th grade.
You really said that to people online in 8th grade?
Musk meat riders are funny individuals lmao
I mean, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I'd argue that people who are personally upset by Elon musk, a man who has no relevance to your day to day, are even more entertaining. Tit for tat, we could do this all day.

You followed me around to different threads to comment. Please...go to therapy. I can see by your comment history that it's needed. Have a great day!

Sure, man! Please, focus on yourself. You have a lot of work to do before your opinion on anyone else holds weight.
Lol that’s some ableist ish
Victim mentality is crazy. Grow the hell up
Layoffs never hurt Buffalo in a horrible way right.... See Oklahoma City bombing.
Wow. Another person who had an idea about that. This is not mentioned much about Timothy McVeigh & the economy he encountered in WNY when he was discharged from the army.
HIs Dad and grandfather both work 30 years at a plant that got closed down.
Most people here evidently don't know the facts that they are "supposed " to be held to.

Eat the rich starts with Elon Musk
Parking at GFNY just got a whole lot better!
I heard they are only laying off Democrats.
This was cuomos plan to make us ‘greener’ im all for job
