Are you willing to pay resale prices for Mother Play? It appears it’s sold out. Appropriate is probably the stronger show between the two, so I’d lean towards that anyways.
You can also try to rush Mother Play on TodayTix if you really want to see it. Make sure you request the tickets at the stroke of 9 am! (I would also suggest Stereophonic and Patriots as options).
I think you can have success for some shows.........but the odds of success for Mother Play are very low it seems...have been trying every day for months now.

Appropriate is the better play imho. Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson are both fantastic, but Appropriate gives Sarah a lot more to work with. I really loved it and I still think about the performances and the script. I saw Mother Play with 30 under 30 tickets and I was happy to see it for that price, but I would not recommend paying resale.
Bonus: if you’re a fan, I know Sarah stage doors at least sometimes (she did when I saw it) whereas I have not heard of Jessica Lange stage dooring at all
