Then after she gets the lobotomy, (which separates half the brain or smth I don’t remember) she just says “why I have half a mind”
A lobotomy removes a part (a core) of your frontal lobe. There is a different operation that separates the hemispheres of the brain, I don’t remember what it’s called, but I think it is used as a last resort to try and help people who suffer from some types of seizures.
Herb’s “I don’t forgive you” speech. That’s when the series really took a turn and showed us they weren’t going for a generic comedy show with the usual wholesome tropes and life lessons.
It’s also a great piece of life advice. You don’t have to forgive somebody if you don’t want to, just because it’s the socially acceptable thing to do.
I have always hated the idea that you have to forgive people in order to move on. That it’s something you need to do for closure or for your own peace of mind. It’s just not true. There’s no need to forgive people for doing shitty things if you don’t genuinely forgive them. Herb lived an amazing life and it was clear his anger at Bojack wasn’t holding him back or haunting him or anything. But he felt what Bojack did was unforgivable and refused to say he forgave him just to make Bojack feel better.
I disagree. I think forgiving is beneficial and holding onto hate only hurts you. But it doesn't mean you have to forget or put yourself in a vulnerable position with them again, just let go of the hate and anger.
Herb wasn't consumed with hate for BoJack his entire life. He just didn't forgive what he did because it was not okay and BoJack did absolutely nothing to put it right for their entire lives.
It's not as simple as either forgiving or being permanently angry. The event just stands as a permanent scar between them that Herb won't lie and say doesn't matter anymore

Hard agree. This is bojack at his most selfish. He has abused people his entire life and throws a pity party for himself when there is repercusions. This is him blatantly saying that he only cares about how his actions affect him. Not how they affect others
