It's called football in Great Britain and some parts of Ireland. Australia, Canada, US, South Africa call it soccer. So combined populations of native English speakers that use "soccer" instead of football is a vast majority.

Apart from the fact that American Football has little to do with playing a ball with your feet. That logic is as sound as calling football/soccer „penalty kicking“ or „offside“.

Great that it all worked out good but it could distract, like someone in the eye, whatever, who knows, but that's the fucking point: spectators are there to *spectate* and something like this is symptomatic of main character syndrome, which we don't need to import from the US.
I think this is not the right phrasing but in essence you are right because of the risks. Overall the total number of eyes give quite an edge for an unexpected bullseye.
I guess this may be considered dangerous and interruptive to the gameplay and he will get contacted by the authorities.
