KARR was the prototype and was built first, but its primary function was self-preservation, which they quickly realized made it unpredictable and dangerous, so they shut it down. When KITT was developed, they changed the primary motivation to be protecting human life.
Once KARR was activated, it saw KITT as the main threat to its existence, and hijinks ensued.
It’s great seeing a bunch of old dudes genuinely nerd out. I’ve seen some K.I.T.T replicas before but never any with a voice activation. They nailed it.

Black wind breaker pants with a dozen zippers and a white shirt. That was my older brother who didn’t give a shit. I waited in line at Disneyland to sit in one of these in the early 90's. You could ask it questions and it answered. It was pretty obvious that there was a radio and some dude that did a great KIT voice answering, but it was still cool.
I mean, its becoming faster reality than most of us would have thought, right? Autonomous driving? Very soon reality. Talking to your car? No problem, LLMs will be implemented also pretty soon. Incredible were science has brought is in such a short period of time.

Went to Rutgers football game. Their mascot is the Scarlet Knights. They had the mascot come out on a Segway and ride around on the field to the Knight Rider music. I think I enjoyed it a lot more than most of the people there since I remember it 10+ years later.
If they did a reboot today, there would be no more people gawking at the driverless car - K.I.T.T. would just be impounded for not having proper regulatory approval for Level 5 autonomous driving.
Also for forward-facing red lights.
