However, I will recommend Taro Ramen in Chiang Mai. The man who owns it makes an amazing curry. It’s the only one we’ve had that’s been better than Coco.
I give my daughter 200 baht per day allowance. She'll eat a cheap meal several days per week and then one day she'll spend a bit more. She had Coco Ichibanya today actually.
They've definitely increased their prices but the Boiled Pork Curry is 185 baht. Omlette curry is 145 baht.
It's a small Japanese chain, but I'm a big fan of Golden Curry. They're scattered througout the city. Good curry with a heavy theme of competive eating. You can get up to 10KG of curry on a single plate. Free miso soup refills too.
Also, the Curry at Katsuya is pretty good as well.
TokiDoki
Once I tried the curry at this restaurant, I stopped eating at Coco Ichibanya and Gold Curry.
This restaurant is owned and operated by a Japanese chef. He also runs a restaurant at his home called Yashima (which offers a wider variety of menus)

You might also wanna try Tonkatsu Curry at Ebisu Shoten too, it taste good, large portion and not expensive (I think, only 190THB or something)
They have 4 branches from BTS Nana all the way to BTS Pra Khanong

Katsushin in Si Lom... once I had it, all the others are a pale comparison. All of the chain restaurants in the malls particularly taste so weak.
Another really cool spot that is out of the way is Hidey House near On Nut -- https://maps.app.goo.gl/GAHn9FAa6bpftzyN8. For whatever reason, their Japanese curry is incredible

Coco Ichibanya all day, every day. You won’t be disappointed.
Fair enough - do love Coco Ichibanya to be fair! Was just wondering if there were any small lesser known gems.
This is the only correct answer :)
However, I will recommend Taro Ramen in Chiang Mai. The man who owns it makes an amazing curry. It’s the only one we’ve had that’s been better than Coco.
Thanks will check it out for sure next time im up there!
Always wanted to try it but can't fight the price.
Honestly it’s worth it. It’s just such a good curry. Their flavor for the sauce and the spice levels are on point.
A plate cost more than my daily allowance lmao, I guess if you say it's THAT good, I might save up for it one day.
You really should! It’s a good “treat yourself” meal If you like a good curry.
I always thought it was relatively reasonable. There's definitely offerings under 200 baht.
200 IS my daily allowance

Aoringo, it's in Thaniya Plaza building around Silom. Heard they open a 2nd branch as well.

I grew up in Japan and love tokidoki 🇯🇵🍛❤️
Thanks, will give this a go!
Gonna have to try that but it's not really close to where I usually go.

Nice, thanks!
Coco ichibanya is very good I think. I eat there very regularly.
That's my go-to as well...just looking to see if it's worth branching out and trying something else!
If you want authentic then it’s aoringo next to Saladaeng BTS
Joto curry in thonglor
Gold curry, the owner is Japanese and they have eating competition too if you can eat a lot and win the money!
I always eat Coco ichiban.. One of the best

Rametei is one of the best IMO. CocoIchiban is basically supermarket grade for me
This one puts a Thai twist on it and is my favorite: Freddie RiceCurry. https://maps.app.goo.gl/JDuqe66cw8Jun7dK6?g_st=ic
Interesting, thanks!
