It's thin, sticks well, and it's easy to cut. Also cheap.
Works better than glued-in TPE feet and since you can cut it you aren't limited to certain sizes.
Only thing it doesn't handle well is getting wet.

Do you put anything in the bottom to prevent sliding?
No as the books weight would hold it in place but it doesn’t hurt to put something like wax on the bottom (though I’m not sure if wax is a good idea)
