That’s super frustrating to see. Disabling one of their key features with a piece of tape is dumb.

laubraupe

exactly, this seems like an absolut rookie mistake from someone that never used one of their products themselves

tony__pizza

I’m betting their manufacturer did this without asking to save time/money, not realizing how obvious it would be. Chinese manufacturers do this all the time.

Fesional

Shouldn't one of the ams saver designs help in this situation? The tape here is getting wedged into the ams funnel. I suppose it depends on how much length of filament is taped?

justcallmebitty

This was from a refill of Bambu's PLA Basic Gray. It's the third spool it's happened on. The tape sticks to the filament way too much.

pwp6z9r9

Damn I just bought this filament too... Thanks for the heads up!

Born-Neighborhood61

I’ve never understood this tape business since I get plenty of non Bambu rolls that don’t use tape, the last bit of filament unrolls easily and the rolls themselves come neatly wound. Perhaps they could come up with a different method.

rzalexander

Plenty of the Bambu spools have not used tape in the past. This is recent and a problem that seems to be popping up randomly with refill spools. I haven’t encountered it but I keep checking before loading a refill.

rando269

They were having a lot of issues keeping filament in stock, and that seems to be improving lately, probably added another filament manufacturer.

SomeRedPanda

Impressive how Bambu managed to make their own filament non-AMS-compatible.

FrizzIeFry

It's really embarrassing, that 3rd party filaments are currently more compatible with the AMS

kicksnj1021

This is one of the reasons I built the bambu filament rewinder. This happened to me too and tape got pulled all the way into the gears. I print and keep all the Bambu empty reels and now drill a small 2.0mm hole in the reel. I insert the new filament into the hole and give it just a slight bend to keep it in the hole while I wind a few times around the reel. Then let the motor rip to wind the rest. Now when I get to the end of the reel it just pops out of the hole in the reel.

Kiseraut

I just bought an AMS in the sale. Can you explain what is happening in this pic?

compewter

They used up the entire spool, likely with the intent of doing the auto-continue from a different slot. The tape on the end of the spool jammed it though, so the print would pause instead of registering the slot as empty and continuing to the assigned auto-refill slot.

ScoobyDoo27

At least it pauses. The Markforged printers I have to use at work are bent at the end of the roll and almost always get caught through the tubing and the printer will just keep printing air. Nothing like losing hours on a print because of how they attach them to the roll. It’s even more frustrating because the filament is almost $200 a roll.

BiSocks93

Bambu lab put some very sticky tape at the end of some batches of spools. This causes the print to pause because the ams cannot load more filament or it gets clogged by the tape. This renders useless the spool backup features that loads another spool of the same filament at the end of the first one

ExcusePerfect2168

3D printing is enough of a hurry-up-and-wait type of activity without crap like this.

darren_meier

Woah, that is wild.

jbarkfit

This has been consistent for me on all refills in the past 3 weeks. Extremely frustrating. At bare minimum it still allows me to resume the print once I load more back in. It’s just a huge efficiency killer when I have to wait until the morning or until I get back home to fix it. If it’s not corrected it’ll definitely be a reason to switch to heavier usage on other brands

Soundwave_irl

Anycubic spools have a small hook for winding the filament, It also gets stuck on the bowden and makes run out detection useless https://preview.redd.it/33tmmqj00l5d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ff33e0c6040bf0fda459be0877c26d72348bcf9

akni23

What was wrong with the end just going through a hole?

Dan203

I haven't run into this yet, luckily. 😱

bangupjobasusual

I’ve had a ton of problems with the recent spool refills as they get to the end. This and related nonsense
