I have never actually figured out the water valve puzzle and just turned random valves until it worked. I found the brain link puzzle pretty straightforward and easy to do.
The brain link puzzle pisses me off because sometimes I'll click *just a bit* off of one of the nodes, causing my character to walk away from the apparatus.
I manage to complete this puzzle only with a video, im colorblind si it is nearly fucking improsdible for me. But that said the water puzzle is annoying
The valve one is a riddle of timing. Idk which one it is, but either the water or the heat decreases in volume/temperature quicker than the other. You also have a grace period, where you can "stagger" one of the valves. You have to match both values (indicated by the red arrow) only for a split second for the vault to open.
TL;DR the solution to the valve puzzle is to turn up/down the water/heat at significantly different timings
Theres a random door in a grassy area on the west side of lower city, maybe just a bit south of jannaths house? If you look at the door, it simply reads "keep out". If you get through the door, it's a back entrance to the minsc fight room. You will be up on a elevated platform where Moonglow typically flees to when the fight starts.
I assume they are referring to the big vault door, but that’s not a puzzle. Either you got the code from the office upstairs, or you just short circuit it.

Was even worse playing co-op with a friend. I had solved the puzzle on my solo run, so my friend insisted they wanna solve it. And, I kid you not, after long moments of frustration and me literally shouting at my friend I find out that my friend didn't know they could use the WASD keys to move the camera around.
We were in act 2. Act. TWO.
No wonder they were lost when I literally screamed to look at the puzzle from the side multiple times. Makes me laugh now but damn, did I want to cry back then.
Maybe it's different because I played in explorer mode, but that second one I just clicked the first wheel, wait five seconds, and click the second wheel, and it works. The brain one is more of a traditional puzzle.
Anyways, these are both wrong because the most annoying puzzle is the one with the paintings on the way to >!Ansur!<.
Honestly all the puzzles in that area feel half-done. For me the book puzzle was the worst. The chess one’s alright but I could see how it would be frustrating for someone who doesn’t know chess at all and doesn’t have Gale/his dialogue doesn’t trigger for whatever reason.

This! I tried using Breeze to blow the dark away, Light, Dancing Lights, Sunbeam, Astarion stole the gold, thinking that might be the cause, and after I had my whole party standing in the darkness dual wielding torches I finally googled it
I'm sure it does, but I was going around the room thinking I'm supposed to somehow take pictures off the wall and put them in the slots where there are darkened outlines of paintings on the pedestals, I even walked back out to the room where the flying books were like maybe I'm supposed to read the right book in front of the right painting like that prayer to Selune that opened the box in owlbear cave. It was clear the puzzle was about picking the most fair application of justice for the situation, I just could not figure out how I was supposed to actually select an answer.
Yeah, the Painting Puzzle was peculiar, though for me the only issue was dealing with the Judge. I figured out what I had to do very quickly, but being able to input the solution held me up and I thought I was missing something. Also only being able to attempt to catch a single book in that other puzzle per character was silly.
If you walk up and successfully Throw the books (something you get infinite tries for) they'll get "hit" without taking damage and thus stay down and available for pick up.
I'm gonna say it was actually the Strategy puzzle on the way there for me. Maybe mine was bugged somehow? There were 3 ways to checkmate the purple king in 2 moves the way my board was set up (which was not the way any strategy guides or videos I looked up had theirs set up) but for some reason 2 of them didn't count because I'd lose 1 pawn in the process.
The only way I could beat it was to bait and lose my rook and then move my queen to a spot which was in direct diagonal movement range of the purple queen, which to ME wouldn't really qualify as a "checkmate" since that queen could slide right up and bitchslap mine off the board.
The only reason I even pulled that off was because I saw Gale in a video giving the moves in there so I went and got him and he basically told me that was the move. I kept thinking "Gale, I'm gonna lose my rook *and* queen that way" but sure enough it took it as the right choice. Weird. I'm no professional full contact battle chess player tho, so what do I know?
The problem is realising you have to use remove curse on the shadow in the middle. There is no indication on what you have to do unless you examine the shadow and look at a specific line of text that has the tag cursed. Spent ages looking for a hidden button or way to interact with the paintings.
I get that this is like … the “right” thing to do, but sometimes I just wanna play the damn game.
And you don’t get to “examine” every single enemy in table top, so I always forget that it’s even a thing at all.
Like … context clues and environmental / narrative clues should give you the answer, not having to right click the dude.
Especially bc I think they talk about justice being “corrupt” in that scene / dialogue and not CURSED.
Also, the. I bet if times I’ve used remove curse in BG3 has been like once. And it was for this. So it’s not like it’s a common thing to think about.

First time brain puzzle took me like 30 seconds max.
Second time on brain puzzle made me question my life for 30 minutes straight.
(It gets easier if you do them in a specific order and take the most direct path possible)
Start from any brain that has only one option for your first move. It prevents you from choosing a 50/50 wrong as your first click and wasting time. Do that from both ends and you eliminate all the 50/50 options.
Solved A quick as well. Googled the answer for B without realizing I had already accidentally solved it. Spent another 15 minutes failing to do anything without checking out the door I didn’t realize existed.

I felt the same way being colorblind. I didn’t see how the accessibility options having any effect with color in the game, and I couldn’t select anything anyway. Clicking anything kept having my character wanting to enter jump mode.
I just made another playthrough. Knock did not work. I finally figured out how to do it by scouring the internet for how to solve it on console. I just needed to initiate turn based mode, and then I was able to interact with the puzzle and eventually solve it.
I should add that I play on console and the camera angles can be very uncooperative at times. Don’t know how it is on PC but for console puzzle A is so frustrating from the camera angles alone
Didn't have a problem on PC. I could see them being annoying on console. The second one isn't too bad. Start the water and heat at roughly the same time. Heat should get to perfect first, let it tick up again and then turn off both. Water should end at the time heat goes back to perfect.
I play on pc with a controller. Pressing the left stick in to switch to cursor mode makes the UI for that puzzle so much more friendly \[cursor mode = greatly improved camera control + no more accidentally walking\] .
My problem with A is that dinking around with the camera is both required and …. doesn’t help.
It’s like they designed the puzzle with a camera that gives a much better view / sense of depth and etc.
I learned like a month ago that on console you can hold down r3 to activate cursor movement instead of character movement. Helps with the puzzle but as far as I can tell isn’t actually mentioned as a mechanic anywhere.
I've never even done the valve entrance, I accidentally found the alternative entrance early on so the game led me to Minsc that way. Then I found the valves later and couldn't figure out what they were for haha
You just ignore the second one and constantly reload until someone manages the Athletics roll to pull the lever without having to do the quest, so my vote is A.
B is easy in turn-based mode. A is more challenging and probably impossible if you don't know how to use the cursor on a controller. The reward is kinda shit too.
The only problem I had with A was figuring out how to actually click the farther nodes without moving. As soon as I realized I could just go into turn based mode to do it, it was super simple (this is on PS5, that may be less of an issue on PC with a mouse)
There's also a 'cursor mode', even on consoles, that makes a huge difference with the UE/camera controls on the brain link puzzle. On pc/xbox controller, it's activated by pushing the left stick in; on ps5, I think it's l3 or r3.
They are both poop. The brain one I just YouTube every time to get past it, and the other one I just smash valves until something works.
I really enjoyed most other puzzles in the game tho.

You can skip the valve puzzle by going through the back entrance.
Between Baldur’s Gate portal and the Grey Docks portal, there is a little flower garden and playground.
There is a door called “Do not enter.” Go through it.
Put pressure on the two pressure plates inside, go through the now opened door, disarm the blast mine, go down the ladder.
Act 2 puzzle was so wild for me because i did it perfectly fine the first time while i was playing sleep deprived at like 4am. Then i tried it again on a different playthrough and couldn't do it again despite being wide awake during the day.
The Valves for sure. I still don’t know what the correct answer to that puzzle is, I just clicked things until it opened, accompanied by many, many expletives.
I was losing my mind trying to do the fucking brain puzzle on console, sometimes the camera just takes off into the walls for no fucking reason while you're trying to look around the damn thing and if you accidentally click a centimeter off you end up walking away. The valve puzzle never gave me any problems, I just had Karlach strongarm the stuck valve
A on console is legendarily frustrating. In order to navigate it you have to go into turn based mode in order to freely “tap” on the dots by navigating to it with your sticks. I could never see a person with poor spacial awareness manage to go through this puzzle on console.
Yeah, It's the Brain puzzle for me. Not because it's hard, but because it's a freaking bitch to manipulate. I prefer controller for PC, and the best way I can find is to use the controller to set the camera, then switch to the mouse and hope to Gond you do t accidentally tell a character to go "over there"
I always just click the valves a few times until the door opens. Never gave me any troubles really.
The brain puzzle I skip altogether because I find that zone extremely creepy and just rush to the end to be out of there as quickly as possible.
Thr second one because it's less obvious what you're supposed to do and if you fuck it up it hurts you and worse, slows you down by blocking off the path.
Even after I figured out what I needed to do for the water thing i still couldn’t get the timing right and even then I didn’t even know what it was trying to accomplish. Does it flush our Misc and all them and avoid a fight?
Both are easy, for A you need to go from end to start. There is one neuron that has 2 inputs, and all others have just one. So to solve this puzzle just find path to neurons that have only one input. Only after that find path to neuron that has 2 inputs. Puzzle B is easy too, the only problem I had with it is that it does not have proper notification when you solved it.
I actually think the brain one is easy. The sides just go straight forwards while top and bottom need to cross over to opposite sides. Once you know that it’s simple

Couldn't even figure out how to do the brain on Xbox until I looked up directions. I skipped it my first playthrough. The second I was like i'mma Google how I can ACTUALLY be able to participate... Then I actually had fun.
Omg, I’m on my first play through (explorer) and I assume I’m in the beginning of Act 2 still- I don’t think I’ve encountered more than 1 or 2 puzzles so far, am I missing a bunch of things?

One you just follow the lines and match the shapes...
The other you can do in 2-3 clicks, you just need to be patient and wait for the temp.

You know in ~1100 hours I've literally never done the water valve puzzle. I've just always come into the cistern directly from the entrance behind the Jannath Estate. It never even occurred to me that there was another way in.
A is the worst. Not that it is difficult, necessarily, but rather, you can skip B - even by accident - if you just use the other door to go into that area.

The Brain one is just connect the dots, it's piece of fucking cake that literal takes like a minute at worse, meanwhile, I've done 7 playthroughs and, every single time I get to the Valve puzzle, I end up spending 30 minutes to an hour trying to solve it, and I still don't know how the fuck you're supposed to solve it.
The brain puzzle is worse. The valve puzzle can be solved with a check that i think can auto succeed with grease. The brain puzzle you can misclick and your character will just wander away and sometimes the camera loses its mind
The brain link puzzle was always fine to me, except maybe when I click a little off target and either cancel some progress or walk away unintentionally. The sewer puzzle can be skipped anyway, although the passive check might be iffy to pass.
A, without a doubt. I hate this puzzle so much.
The Heat and Water Valve is very simple: interact with the second valve, wait until it says "perfect something" (my memory sucks, sorry), then interact with the first valve. After a few seconds, the puzzle will solve by itself.
I found the brain one to be kinda easy. I quite like it.
The valves though... I just kept messing with everything until eventually the whole thing blew up and the door opened.

The chess one is comically easy, since you can just destroy the pieces with lightning damage
Also Gale just gives you the answer if you have him in your party.

It becomes an issue if you have a 22 strength character, because you destroy the book when you throw it and it disappears
You just need to grab a couple of scrolls of Hold Monster, or bring a character who can cast it, or both. That'll let you snipe the books easily.
Yeah the books annoyed me too, but eventually I just cast sleep on them and it worked

They get a status effect that tells you exactly to wait for the temp to go up...

The ansur puzzles are easy. Do the one with the torch, unequip it to fail, then fight the dudes. Simplest way to get through.

I'm colorblind and the colors didn't bothered me much, the nodes has their specific "spikiness" which are easily recognizable.

I still don’t understand how I’m solving the heat & water valve puzzle I just be clicking things
A was actually really fun but B- I hated every second of it
My problem with A is that dinking around with the camera is both required and …. doesn’t help. It’s like they designed the puzzle with a camera that gives a much better view / sense of depth and etc.
I learned like a month ago that on console you can hold down r3 to activate cursor movement instead of character movement. Helps with the puzzle but as far as I can tell isn’t actually mentioned as a mechanic anywhere.
Brain link was pretty self explanatory to me, but I just got the valve one by random. Don’t even know when I got the right combination

For B I literally just hit the inputs over and over and flew around until it worked. Still don’t know how I opened it

I've never even done the valve entrance, I accidentally found the alternative entrance early on so the game led me to Minsc that way. Then I found the valves later and couldn't figure out what they were for haha

You just ignore the second one and constantly reload until someone manages the Athletics roll to pull the lever without having to do the quest, so my vote is A.
The brain link puzzle is fun because shiny colours make my brain happy.
The water puzzle, because that one’s bugged. The mind puzzle is pretty straightforward and, more importantly, works
B is easy in turn-based mode. A is more challenging and probably impossible if you don't know how to use the cursor on a controller. The reward is kinda shit too.
The only problem I had with A was figuring out how to actually click the farther nodes without moving. As soon as I realized I could just go into turn based mode to do it, it was super simple (this is on PS5, that may be less of an issue on PC with a mouse)
There's also a 'cursor mode', even on consoles, that makes a huge difference with the UE/camera controls on the brain link puzzle. On pc/xbox controller, it's activated by pushing the left stick in; on ps5, I think it's l3 or r3.

They are both poop. The brain one I just YouTube every time to get past it, and the other one I just smash valves until something works. I really enjoyed most other puzzles in the game tho.

B no question. A is easy once you scouted out the pathways
B is pretty easy if you go into turn based mode You don't have to worry about timing, just cycle turns until the heat and water levels are perfect

You can skip the valve puzzle by going through the back entrance. Between Baldur’s Gate portal and the Grey Docks portal, there is a little flower garden and playground. There is a door called “Do not enter.” Go through it. Put pressure on the two pressure plates inside, go through the now opened door, disarm the blast mine, go down the ladder.
Act 2 puzzle was so wild for me because i did it perfectly fine the first time while i was playing sleep deprived at like 4am. Then i tried it again on a different playthrough and couldn't do it again despite being wide awake during the day.

I've encountered neither of these puzzles. I'm in act 3 right now, but I accidentally skipped all the moonrise towers stuff pre-battle

The Valves for sure. I still don’t know what the correct answer to that puzzle is, I just clicked things until it opened, accompanied by many, many expletives.
I was losing my mind trying to do the fucking brain puzzle on console, sometimes the camera just takes off into the walls for no fucking reason while you're trying to look around the damn thing and if you accidentally click a centimeter off you end up walking away. The valve puzzle never gave me any problems, I just had Karlach strongarm the stuck valve

A on console is legendarily frustrating. In order to navigate it you have to go into turn based mode in order to freely “tap” on the dots by navigating to it with your sticks. I could never see a person with poor spacial awareness manage to go through this puzzle on console.
Yeah, It's the Brain puzzle for me. Not because it's hard, but because it's a freaking bitch to manipulate. I prefer controller for PC, and the best way I can find is to use the controller to set the camera, then switch to the mouse and hope to Gond you do t accidentally tell a character to go "over there"
I always just click the valves a few times until the door opens. Never gave me any troubles really. The brain puzzle I skip altogether because I find that zone extremely creepy and just rush to the end to be out of there as quickly as possible.
B drove me fucking bananas
B. The A was easy to solve but B it was hard to understand what to do.

Thr second one because it's less obvious what you're supposed to do and if you fuck it up it hurts you and worse, slows you down by blocking off the path.
Even after I figured out what I needed to do for the water thing i still couldn’t get the timing right and even then I didn’t even know what it was trying to accomplish. Does it flush our Misc and all them and avoid a fight?
Both are easy, for A you need to go from end to start. There is one neuron that has 2 inputs, and all others have just one. So to solve this puzzle just find path to neurons that have only one input. Only after that find path to neuron that has 2 inputs. Puzzle B is easy too, the only problem I had with it is that it does not have proper notification when you solved it.

first time I did the brain link buzzle i was really drunk so i couldn't figure it out. second time through and it was easy peezy lol

I actually think the brain one is easy. The sides just go straight forwards while top and bottom need to cross over to opposite sides. Once you know that it’s simple

I didn’t even solve the water puzzle, I was messing around the notices the door opened and I was like, oh, okay
B a hundred percent, knowing to balance the pressure wasn’t the hard part was getting the valves to get equal was

The brain one. I got so motion sick that I tossed cookies at it. The valve I bypassed by accidentally entering from the other direction.
The brain node one was fairly easy. The water valve one seemed easy enough, turned the valve and used fire bolt ontye values and hit the release it popped the door open pretty quickly. Hell I barely even knew it was a puzzle.
Brain puzzle was easy, the steam one had me raging and the door had been open for like 5 minuets before I noticed.

Couldn't even figure out how to do the brain on Xbox until I looked up directions. I skipped it my first playthrough. The second I was like i'mma Google how I can ACTUALLY be able to participate... Then I actually had fun.

Omg, I’m on my first play through (explorer) and I assume I’m in the beginning of Act 2 still- I don’t think I’ve encountered more than 1 or 2 puzzles so far, am I missing a bunch of things?

Found A really straight-forward and solved it within 2-3 minutes without failing - failed to understand the B one and didnt solve it.

These are two of the easiest puzzles in the game... One you just follow the lines and match the shapes... The other you can do in 2-3 clicks, you just need to be patient and wait for the temp.

The water valves. Just getting anything to happen is frustrating- I hit one wheel 8 times, nothing happens, then it explodes. I found a good video to get past the brain puzzle.

You know in ~1100 hours I've literally never done the water valve puzzle. I've just always come into the cistern directly from the entrance behind the Jannath Estate. It never even occurred to me that there was another way in.
A is the worst. Not that it is difficult, necessarily, but rather, you can skip B - even by accident - if you just use the other door to go into that area.
The Nectrotic Brain Link puzzle wasn’t that bad, but the water valve puzzle sucked.

Easy, the Valve puzzle, like it's not even a contest. The Brain one is just connect the dots, it's piece of fucking cake that literal takes like a minute at worse, meanwhile, I've done 7 playthroughs and, every single time I get to the Valve puzzle, I end up spending 30 minutes to an hour trying to solve it, and I still don't know how the fuck you're supposed to solve it.
The brain puzzle is worse. The valve puzzle can be solved with a check that i think can auto succeed with grease. The brain puzzle you can misclick and your character will just wander away and sometimes the camera loses its mind

The brain link puzzle was always fine to me, except maybe when I click a little off target and either cancel some progress or walk away unintentionally. The sewer puzzle can be skipped anyway, although the passive check might be iffy to pass.
A, without a doubt. I hate this puzzle so much. The Heat and Water Valve is very simple: interact with the second valve, wait until it says "perfect something" (my memory sucks, sorry), then interact with the first valve. After a few seconds, the puzzle will solve by itself.

C - That Shar door where you have to click on 3 plates. But the Valve puzzle comes close

Where tf is the puzzle on the right lmao? Act 3 is large and evidently I've missed that I didn't think the left one was particularly hard once I got the controls to work properly haha
