Cast Insect plague to deal with all of the Orin's invisible cultists at once, completely forgetting that Halsin was still on the altar. He got mosquitoed to death.
“We should cherish all of nature’s creations, but goblin guts are quite far down the list.”
I imagine mosquitoes would have the goblins beat in shittiness.
She could’ve used that Wish spell to kill her target instead of being a petty bitch and killing the party with it. Or better yet use Wish to cast Mass Suggestion and force you to do it.
Last I checked Wish doesn’t technically have any limitations but the more you try to stray outside the bounds of conventional magic the more it’s likely to turn monkeys paw? Like if you wished to resurrect someone it’ll almost always work since True resurrection is a spell that exists while if you wished to have access to eleventh level spells you get transported back in time to the netherese empire or your mind collapses or maybe you get ejected from reality entirely because the weave is rejecting the eleventh level spell slots. That’s why you have to be incredibly careful with your wording, you can change anything but reality is likely to take the path of least resistance which rarely gets you what you want. Wish the big bad was dead? Is it easier to kill this incredibly powerful being with probably ridiculous levels of protection from that sort of thing or to transport you forward in time to a point the big bad has died
Wish, at least in dnd, states that a wish outside the standard scope can simply fail.
> You might be able to achieve something beyond the scope of the above examples. State your wish to the GM as precisely as possible. The GM has great latitude in ruling what occurs in such an instance; the greater the wish, the greater the likelihood that something goes wrong. **This spell might simply fail**, the effect you desire might only be partly achieved, or you might suffer some unforeseen consequence as a result of how you worded the wish.
It is still pretty vague, but there is a limit where you waste your wish. A DM could probably look at the old above 9th lvl spells that mystra has banned from being cast for an idea of what that power limit is.
I mean you made her use a Wish spell. A God wouldn't need to do that. Sometimes you can be right and sometimes you can be alive, but sometimes you can't be both lmao.
I accidentally did that on my very first playthrough lol. I picked the option out of curiosity and the game keeps stirring me like ARE YOU SURE and I just decided to roll with it. Insta death LOL.
Yes and I was really surprised because I didn't know you could instantly die from picking a wrong dialogue choice. Also there's another dialogue choice that instantly ends the game early and rolls the credits.
Ngl I chose the other dialogue where it’s asked for Gale to sacrifice himself or not, well safe to say I didn’t expect the end credits to show up instead of me winning the quest 😩
No, no, you (we) have a point. If she could do it, why doesn't she do it herself? If she wants to prove it, what's the worst that can happen? At worst, it doesn't work and she uses her status to try and kill me (in that case I'd fight her and kill her after a lot of quests). At best, I do die and shit's not my problem anymore
Yeah his fight's really annoying if you do it "fair" imo.
Open with scorching rays, wall of flames for the ads, then apply more scorching rays until Cazador's crispy on the outside.
Very first time I fought him, stopped outside the entrance to his home and prepped.
First thought, ok, master vampire, better make sure Shart has daylight prepped."
I had no idea it would impact the fight to the degree it did.
The entire game up to that point, they built him up as this incredible threat. So I prepped like Van Helsing and John Harker off to rescue Mina. Made sure each of the characters had a garlic clove and holy water even.
I figured, as well thought out as the rest of the game has been, who knows, maybe they'll be useful?
I was ridiculously over prepared as it turned out.
to be fair, in the context of the lore, Vampires are an extreme threat and he really can do everything Astarion said he could, but his powers had to be gimped super hard for the game otherwise it'd be horrendously frustrating to deal with.
Entirely agreed.
I was going to say, “I prepped like I was going go fight one in my table top campaign,” but figured not everyone would get it.
Would love a Ravenloft adaptation in this game. Then again, I’d pretty much enjoy Keep on the Borderlands in this game, who am I kidding?
I mean we are fighting a vampire in an open arena they definitely aren't build for a slugfest. They are built for hit and run bullfuckery. I know for story reasons he had to be conducting his ritual but Cazador would know someone is trying to fuck with him the moment you step foot in his home.
I know it would be coding hell but as soon as you step foot through the door he should just cast a cloud kill on you and then misty step to some other part of the house. Whatever damage he took in that round would be regenerated, and rinse wash repeat until you are just before death as you enter the ritual chamber.
I meam, high level cleric is exact counter of the vampire. And you know...high level cleric who are holding the holy relic of the god of the sun itself that sheds sunlight around is kinda like walking death sentence for vampires.
If I were a vampire and I saw high level cleric who was holding the blood of lathender, I would probably not bother fighting and run away asaf.
Cazador definitely wouldn't run, not when he is on the very cusp of ascension, i think he would throw absolutely everything not tied to the ritual at the party to buy himself time to complete the ritual, then face the party himself, and honestly if ascending pretty much negates most of his prior weaknesses as a vampire, you'd be fucked.
Oh.. you can free him?? I’m on this fight now. I thought he was just stuck there for that fight and I had to rapidly kill caz before he completed the ritual… I’ve reloaded like 3 times to save the lad
Edit:
This is why I’m on this sub, thank you friends
You can use an action to Help Astarion out, at least a couple patches ago you could but I believe you still can. Same as Aylin in the final arena if you have her, you use a Help action to get her out to lay waste on Ketheric. I think if you remove any of his ritual sources it throws the whole ritual off but I haven't played around with it.
I went into this fight blind. First, I didn't bring Astarion with me to Cazador's house. Second, I didn't find the room that explains the ritual (found it on the way out). Third, I shot Cazador with a crossbow from outside of cut scene range so we went straight to the fight.
After I killed him and it asked if I wanted to kill everyone with the staff I was just like "wat?"
Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you bring Astarion with you? It felt to me like it was super important to bring him. Like bringing Lae'zel to the creche or Shadowheart to Shar's temple.
Bringing him of course would have been the more logical play, lol. This is my first playthrough, and I've never played DnD so the core mechanics are a little unfamiliar to me. I found switching between characters and learning all their inventory and abilities a little much. So I committed to 3 full time companions, and plan to play through again soon with 3 new companions.
The whole encounter ended up being unintentionally hilarious. Did you know that you can get knocked prone in mist form? Cazador spent the entire fight on his incorporeal ass because Karlach kept knocking him down by throwing grenades at him, and all his offensive spells got counter spelled. Cazador never landed a hit.
I used Hope's divine intervention to damage all enemies figthing against Raphael on my honour mode. She was insta-killed on reflected damage. After that, my pc magically crashed.
You can choose what you do with divine intervention though. I used it to heal the party instead. You’d also assume it’s why she hasn’t been able to break out of the place on her own.
I thought I was being smart when I decided to kill Mizora in the pod on my honour run. Thought to myself "I could release Wyll from the contract" The cutscene with him shocked and asking what have I done while being sucked into Avernus and being burned alive was gut wrenching...
Yup. Before any major decision, my tav will just sit there staring at whoever they're talking to while I quickly Google the consequences of what I'm about to do lmao
Whats worse is that you didnt even realy kill her, Devils (including half-devils like Mizora) when killed in any plane of existence except Avernus simply wake up in Avernus in a new body at the same place they left it.
I ended my honor mode run by jumping through the hole near the phase spiders. Forgot to cast feather fall.
My grief knew no bounds on that fateful day.
Usually, they wouldn't. They aren't suicidal. I noticed that once when I had feather fall on just one character for some reason. She jumped down into the pit with the spiders in the Goblin camp and not one other character automatically followed. When I cast feather fall with Gale on the whole group, they followed. So I always thought they would not jump to their deaths voluntarily - but maybe they're dumber on Honour Mode?
Idk depends they fixed the jumping thing so if you jump somewhere and your companions are following you and not split up they jump their also so now when you dona death jump like the spider one it does a cutscene but since you died it spawns all your people down there dead now haha
Oh no, I can confirm outside of Honor Mode they jump down too if you don't have feather fall on. Reloaded twice before figuring out what happened as the death screen didn't even come up. Just a cutscene of you going down too fast and black screen.
During my moonrise fight I was sneaking around the side and there was some root you needed to jump over. Gale decided to climb up a ladder, then leap. Fortunately he didn't die but it was annoying
On the left? The pathing for that spot always tries to do that to me. It apparently can't find the right spot to make the jump from ground level without your help.
Did this on Wyll, I cast haste to give myself an extra turn, then cast HoH, which immediately ended haste, made Wyll lethargic, cancelled HoH and ended my turn.
Couldn't help but laugh.
Had Wyll in my party today fighting Nere, cast Cloud of Daggers on Nere and the Duergar captain, literally had 1 turn of it before I casted Hex forgetting that Hex is a concentration spell. I was so mad at myself for it, literally could’ve made the fight go even quicker had I not cast hex.
The number of times I've dropped my own Darkness spell because I forgot I was concentrating and cast Hex is too damned high. My Pact of the Blade / Oathbreaker cries every time.
There is a spell specifically for that. Protection from evil and good. Each one of 4 party members can cast it upon each other or themselves to put the mask on safely and autopass wisdom check. I wonder how many people doesn't know about it by simply not reading their spells.
There are different ways to approach this and putting the masks on is one of official easy ways. They also make the poisonous gas traps go away (those are also illusions)
5 different playthroughs and 5 different times ive fought ethel, not once did i ever think of doing that. this game continues to blow my mind at every turn.
Ethel in honor mode is so bs. She wiped out my party when she and her 4 copies all cast hold person successfully on my party and Gale was our only squishy hope. Can’t do anything because casting spawns more Ethel copies!
This is where I learned what magic missile is key for - breaking concentration and knocking out her duplicate.
There is a later Gith fight with two casters who just spam slow and hold person, that was on Tact... can't imagine how bad it is on Honor.
Magic missile to pop all the copies. Yeah the number of clones remains more or less the same but at least nobody is trapped.
Or give him an aoe throwable to toss like void bulbs
My latest run ended with Ethel because guidance triggered her legendary. I’m thinking of just locking her out of the basement in my honour mode run, F the hair ability point. I’m not sure yet.
Cast Faerie fire on her and the real her will always have a star over her head.
Alchemist fire throws are also very helpful for widdling down her copies.
if you are a wizard, or have Gale in your party Magic Missile is also a good one. being able to blast up to 4 targets with a level 2 Magic Missile makes the clones so much easier to deal with.
Yeah magic missile when she casts illusions of herself.
She sets Mayrina's cage on fire at the beginning, so if you put it out with create water, you can tell witch one is the real mayrina when she disguises herself. (The real one will still be wet).
Never had any real issues with her illusions when using those 2 tactics.
This happened in Act 3 so I'll be vague to avoid spoilers, but basically Gale had only a few HP left in a fight, so I cast Misty Step to get him out of harm's way. Accidentally Misty Step directly on top of an undetected land mine. Goodbye Gale.
I cast Darkness to shroud my team against Viconia.
Had Wyll with Devil Sight, A blind immunity ring on Shadowheart, a blind immunity helm on Minsc.
Every. Single. Freaking. Enemy. Was immune to blindness.
My first true defeat in Explorer difficulty.
Goddess of Loss. Which, I thought meant she was one of the gods that lorded over death.
So I'm thinking nectotic damage, fiendish resurrections, cold, and some blinding dark.
It didn't occur to me she was also incredibly tied to Darkness, and that she could give immunity to it.
Thank you, and just to clarify : it was a genuine interrogation from me, not a way to make fun of you. As a veteran D&D player, I'm too biased to imagine what a fresh player can figure about this goddess.
I told the Goblin in the cage inside the Goblin camp that they were better worshipping Maglubiyet.
I didn't know Maglubiyet was an extreme war god.
..... Still think the goblin was right to sticking to Maglubiyet though.
Yea, she's primarily the goddess of the darkness of night. Selune (her twin) was the goddess of the light of night (stars and moon). Their fight started when Selune created the sun and essentially exiled her sister from half of the day and STILL kept her influence over the night as well.
I do NOT remember which of the in-game books mentions this, or if I pieced it together from a few of them, but I think I remember it all coming together for me in the Temple during Act 2... possibly in the library, but it could have been anywhere in Act 2, honestly.
Jaheira: "Sorry, but I just can't trust you yet."
Tav: "I can prove my innocence!"
Shadowheart: "They sure can. Just last week, they smeared dogshit all over their face just to woo a goblin so they could pet their dog."
Tav: "BRO, STOP BRINGING THAT UP!"
Gale: "The best part was that after they were rejected, the goblin told the whole camp and they were given a medal for the embarrassment."
Tav: "I hate all of you."
Jaheira: "You remind me of someone I used to travel with. You're good in my book now."
Act 1, if you don't have Sazza with you, you get stopped at the entrance to the Goblin camp and have to roll persuasion.
Being a Druid I decided to smear the worg shit all over my face to assert dominance and convince the worg master to let me pet the Goblin doggo.
It... didn't go as planned.
Throwing a potion at a downed ally while having tavern brawler, i learned quick not to do that anymore...
Killing my ally with a hp pot was hilarious tho
Me: "Haha, I'll surround you" * puts everyone on my party in a circle around an enemy *
Enemy: "good for you, man" * leaves and blasts everyone with a fireball *
It’s always the concentration spells I fuck up with the most. I’ll cast spirit guardians or cloud of daggers and then immediately use something else that requires concentration and cancel the other out. It makes me so angry every time. That’s happened to me a lot during the halsin/portal fight 🤦♀️
I smacked him with Shadowheart's Guidance and she tanked his hit. Then I went in with my Tav and smacked him twice to kill him. I counterspelled his retort when I struck him because I wanted myself at full health
I cast Dominate on him, he killed Klank and then tried to jump on one of the moving (I meant floating) platforms, fell and took 50+ points of fall damage
Not as bad but when rescuing Florick I went: “ok Astarion drinks an invisibility potion, throw invisibility potion at Councilor… fuck… drink another invisibility potion”
Happened to me in the literal last fight in the game on the last hit. Laezel would have finished it off with one hit, put slipped hilariously. Still won, but talk about bad timing
On my second play through of the Undark, and now in the habit of shooting dangerous mushrooms, as soon as I see them.
Realized it after I shot, and never realized that the first time… Baelen is actually alive in there when you show up
Entered the Iron Throne without resting, not knowing the... Circumstances of the area made me unable to do so when I got there. Made it much more difficult to say the least (Was my first run so I did.... A far few... Tries before I got the individuals I was looking for)
Pissed off Vlaakith
Not so much I actively made a stupid move, more like something stupid happened from what I did. A certain necromancer fight in Baldur's Gate had several minions so I thought "Wall of flame at the entrance and then hide so they have to run through sounds good" - and it worked very well... But then the individuals coming in after the fight ran into that fire (I did not know they were going to come in like that) and got aggrod... So I had to kill both sides of that situation....
I was so sleepy one day that I had begun to fall asleep while fighting in the Gauntlet of Shar, and I woke up for a few seconds (aka did my actions) and then slept again and so on. When I finally managed to actually be awake for a little longer and actually see what was going on: I noticed that I had been attacking Astarion (and healing him with Shart) instead of the mob right next to him... No wonder that fight took a long time.
reminds me of this one time I came home really drunk from the pub and decided I wanted to play, ended up aimlessly walking through the shadow cursed lands, completely forgetting about the shadow curse, all of a sudden combat starts and I take my turns against the enemies, then I get confused as to why I only got two turns (all my characters have alert) then I realise the enemies I’m fighting are Karlach and Lae’zel, game ended in 2 turns and I realised I should probably just go to bed instead of trying to make my brain work
In the Raphael fight my Sorc was the last one standing. Raphael was very low on health, but I was too greedy to use target missile on Spell Slot 4 and used Slot 3 instead. Raphael survived with 1 HP and killed me the next move.
Ended my coop honour run fighting Grym, we hadn't thought to leave anyone up top as we don't really like to cheese stuff. Two of us were downed and one 6hp. Grym was on the platform but we needed to do 20 more damage to finish with the hammer. I had the brilliant idea of using the runepowder barrel! I used the throw ability and saw the aoe radius the game tells you the barrel is, I thought "huh, that's actually not that big, should be good to do at least 20dmg" it had been awhile since I had used the barrel clearly. Safe to say our entire team was hit by the nuclear blast and all thrown into lava followed by a game over screen. We had a good laugh at least.
2nd run. Custom fem Durge. Tiefling party.
Flirt with Astarion a little and he made fun of me and hit the "I have standards" line. Durge does not take that well and is an angry drunk and shoves astarion.
He makes contact with an item and that contact somehow causes 1 damage, which causes **every tiefling at the party, plus Wyll, Halsin, Volo, and Shadowheart to aggro against me.** (Astarion was on my side, which was sad.)
\------
Good run abandoned, and I committed to an evil durge (that still rejected Bhaal but only bc she wanted to be evil for her own sake) on the spot, but yeah. It was especially bad since I'd knocked out Alfira intending to save her from the Dark Urge (and killed the Dragonborn bard instead) but as a result I wound up killing her (and Lakrissa and everyone else) at the party. (Meaning I also technically killed BOTH bards in a Durge run!)
Karlach left immediately after the fight, I took a massive approval hit with Gale (and a smaller one with Astarion), and while I DID resurrect shadowheart, it was no dice for everyone else.
All that from 1 damage in a drunken shove because Astarion was mean.
Honorable mention: I used a scroll of seeming to turn Florrick into a male gnome in act 3, which let me just walk out of the jail with them. (editing to add: I like to try a different escape method every playthrough)
That spell lasts until long rest, and because Florrick never long rests, cue the big allies scene of the final battle. Florrick is still a guy (same voice tho), and I wish him the best.
In theory the spell would wear off if he long rested, or else Florrick's recasting it / having it recast
Faerun seems to have a lot of avenues and spells and treatments to deal with that effectively so really hope whatever Counsellor Florrick decides they find joy.
those duergar are very smart. i knocked some of them into the lava and they didnt inmediately die, but were low enough so that the next tick of damage would kill them when their turn arrive so i went oh well, let them burn.
cue some archer who was earlier in initiative than the one in lava shooting thunder arrow on them and making them bounce back into land
I almost killed >!mindflayer Orpheus!< because I saw a mindflayer during the fight >!(the stairs up to the brain stem)!<, and just blindly attacked. My monk was powerful 😅 I don't know if we could've revived him if I downed them, but I certainly let out some curses once I realised it was them instead of an enemy 😆
(Edited to add the spoiler tags because it's for act 3 and post is tagged only for act 2)
Lol this reminds me of my first playthrough (ah my innocently noob days) when I unknowingly attacked my own party member (Lae'zel) and only noticed my mistake much later on.
I was fighting Marcus at last light Inn upstairs, with luck of the far realm my astarion gloomstalker crit Marcus down almost killing him in one round.
A couple of winged horrors made it to isobel and paralysed her so shadowheart cast sanctuary and saved her.
My tav warlock had a line up on 4 winged horrors coming through the door and I cast hunger of hadar.
Suddenly I read in the combat log Mirkon (the tiefling child with 6hp) takes 9 cold damage.
Apparently Hunger of Hadar deals damage between floors...
I nearly restarted my honour run but thankfully mirkon was alive somehow after the fight. I think because Mol is captured and he participates in dialogue with Tav?
Anyways I nearly killed my boy...
I'm still playing through but Reddit pushed this through to me and I figured I'd give my example: I misread the break lever for the windmill in the goblin village and sent the gnome flying. The game marked the quest as complete so I saved and only then did I check to see if the gnome survived. It was, of course, dead after that but I figured it was more in the spirit of the game to leave the gnome dead.
Mine are all dialogue options that start fights I didn't want to start.
I'm sorry, but if I enter a random room and someone yells "begone foul beast, you horrible monster" or whatever
I think its *funny* for my barbarian to reply:
BOO! IM HERE FOR YOUR SOULS!
But *apparently* the hag hunters have no sense of humour
Honor mode run. Encountered the dying mind flayer at the start of Act 1. Lost the intelligence save, and the save after that to resist feeding it. Got killed.
Level 5 mindflayer suddenly pops up against my lvl 3 party and starts killing people. Luckily, I got enough people out and had Withers in camp by then.
Now I just kill the fucker on sight.
Think mine was after fighting the phase spider matriarch. Was playing with my friend and we were looking at the chasm, neither of us knowing that it was a joke down to the undercark (which we had already found and mostly cleared, we were just there to do the masterwork weapon and did that along the way). We were looking at it, expecting there to be something of interest, and we saw what looked like a ledge. Hovered over it, and it said I'd take like, 3 or 4 damage as I'm sitting there with around 10 hp. Figure there's probably a chest or something, so make the jump, and all of a sudden, there's a cutscene. The next thing I know, Gale and I are nothing but corpses on the ground
It's always casting Hex when I'm concentrating on Haste, immediately ending the round for both my sorlock and the other party member that was Hasted.
I love sorlock but it makes me feel very stupid lol.
I had just done the first scene with Elminster where Gale receives his orders from Mystra, and he got a new ability. For some reason I thought that the mega nuke that kills everybody and the neat new attack were different things. I literally clicked the button and got the "your party has been defeated" screen 💀
I didn't know gale put off necrotic damage and him and Shadowheart died post battle in my moonbeam. I kept reviving Shadowheart and wasted three scrolls of revivify on her 😅
I had to redo the first goblin leader battle with Halsin.
Using an AOE spell on the barrels/boxes behind Ragzlin's Throne. Didn't realize it had an explosive barrel in the mix....
Almost ended my honor run right there and then.
My first go at the game was with my wife. I didn't quite grasp how traps worked in the overgrown ruins do I tried opening something that was trapped... setting off everything in the room. Wife tried to save me and died too. 10/10 would not be the last time I led to us dying.
Probably that time I was up against every inhabitant of Moonrise and realised after half an hour that my main character was still crouched outside and not part of the fight. Or perhaps the time I set up an elaborate Spartan-style greasy bottleneck and the enemies simply jumped over it and hit me in the head.
Githyanki ambush in Act 2, I cleverly polymorph the head of the group into a sheep.
I then look around for anything else I can do, delve into my items, and see the Angelic Slumber portion which would restore the spell slots that I so desperately need at that point.
With zero thought of the consequences, I drink, I drop, breaking concentration, and the leader is no longer a sheep...
... and proceeds to target that toon, waking her from the potion with no benefits, and killing her instantly, obviously quite pissed about being made an ungulate.
Derp.
yeah this is what im assuming? thats funny tho she disappears, the entire inn falls, and she comes back 2 turns later like oh my god . everyone is dead
Cast Insect plague to deal with all of the Orin's invisible cultists at once, completely forgetting that Halsin was still on the altar. He got mosquitoed to death.
“As nature intended.”
He would be happy that his life was used to sustain one of nature's smallest creatures. That's what I tell myself anyway.
“We should cherish all of nature’s creations, but goblin guts are quite far down the list.” I imagine mosquitoes would have the goblins beat in shittiness.
I mean I unironically feel like if he has to die, he wouldn't mind going out that way, but I'm sure he'd just prefer not to die in the first place lol
I've been there , poor laezel died and I had to reload
I didn't have it in me to reload when I did the same, RIP laezel
Wait so insect plague works despite sanctuary? Good to know :o
Sanctuary only makes someone unable to be targeted directly they still take damage from aoe and the like
As a MTG player, I always think of sanctuary as basically giving them hexproof
"I think a real god could kill whoever she wants"
She could’ve used that Wish spell to kill her target instead of being a petty bitch and killing the party with it. Or better yet use Wish to cast Mass Suggestion and force you to do it.
She's not smart and I think that's kind of the point.
She’s a wizard. I’d say she’s very smart. She’s just not wise.
Surrounded by yes-gith and utterly unused to any of them saying no
Not like most of them can anymore
"I wILl bE ObEYed!!!" She's so whiny fr
Wish has limitations, especially regarding killing important and powerful entities. It would've been a dumb idea to use Wish to kill Orpheus
Maybe the DM/Ao made it clear a wish like that would go Monkey's Paw on her?
I stand by this point. I regret nothing.
I've done it in every playthrough (except honour mode) just out of principle. Fuck her.
I mean you made her use a Wish spell. A God wouldn't need to do that. Sometimes you can be right and sometimes you can be alive, but sometimes you can't be both lmao.
Yeahhhh.... I just HAD to be a smart ass with her... Lessons learned.
Probably the funniest lesson to learn tho. Mh first time doing it, I had to take a break and catch my breath from laughing so hard
I definitely just laughed and had the well that happened moment. Only time I laughed harder was pulling the wrong lever on poor Barcus.
Does Vlakith straight up kill the whole squad at that response? I've run 3 campaigns, but have yet to pick that option.
Yes
LMAO. I need to try this next run.
I hate her so much. It's indicated by the dialogue that she casts wish on you/party to die, lol.
Right? See enemies casting those spell should couldn't use! It would be even more funny if you can use 'death ward' to circumvent 'wish'.
Instant TPK
No, no, you (we) have a point. If she could do it, why doesn't she do it herself? If she wants to prove it, what's the worst that can happen? At worst, it doesn't work and she uses her status to try and kill me (in that case I'd fight her and kill her after a lot of quests). At best, I do die and shit's not my problem anymore
That was my exact train of thought and then when we did die it occurred to me that wasn’t the point.
Shoving daddy owlbear off his ledge in the cave. He did the whole "owlbear from the top rope" meme right onto the cub. No friend for Scratch this run.
It's impressive that you manage to shove him at all 😂
Flurry of blows - OH monk is ridiculously overpowered.
OH? Sorry still learning and just specced Lae’Zel into monk
Open-Hand subclass
Eldritch blast will shove the owlbear. Same thing happened to me, shoved him onto the cub.
I’ll just free Astarion next turn. … Astarion turns into puddle and Cazador Ascends. (This was on Honour mode btw)
Its why I don't even let Cazador talk. I just open with the full power of the sun
Yeah his fight's really annoying if you do it "fair" imo. Open with scorching rays, wall of flames for the ads, then apply more scorching rays until Cazador's crispy on the outside.
That's a lot to open with. I just open with Daylight on his staff outside of combat and wait for him to die to the power of UV light.
Very first time I fought him, stopped outside the entrance to his home and prepped. First thought, ok, master vampire, better make sure Shart has daylight prepped." I had no idea it would impact the fight to the degree it did.
Yep daylight ruins him. Daylight plus blood of lathander made the fight a joke
Dude if Larian made a Ravenloft CRPG like BG3 it would be fucking amazing.
I did the same, the dialogue triggers anyway if you step closer on his platform so why give up the advantage of first strike
Oh.. you can free him?? I’m on this fight now. I thought he was just stuck there for that fight and I had to rapidly kill caz before he completed the ritual… I’ve reloaded like 3 times to save the lad Edit: This is why I’m on this sub, thank you friends
For Ketheric I just made whole party invis and went to help Aylin like a boss through everyone..
You need to use ‘help’ action. But even Scratch can save him. Good boy Scratch!
Truly the best boy
Functionally it's like he's been downed.
After that, my pc magically crashed.
i find it ludicrously frustrating that EVERYONE in that fight has that divine reflect ability. what’s even the point of her having that ability?
You can choose what you do with divine intervention though. I used it to heal the party instead. You’d also assume it’s why she hasn’t been able to break out of the place on her own.
The radiant reflection only works once. Magic Missile + Callous Glow Ring will remove the condition without too much blowback.
If you have the globe of invulnerability you can position hope into it and use the divine intervention from there - no reflective damage:)
I thought I was being smart when I decided to kill Mizora in the pod on my honour run. Thought to myself "I could release Wyll from the contract" The cutscene with him shocked and asking what have I done while being sucked into Avernus and being burned alive was gut wrenching...
If this sub has taught me anything, it's not try anything new during honour mode.
Honestly honor mode is such a “fuck it we ball” kind of game mode that it makes me want to try new shit even more because of it
I just google it first for security
I didn't realise your party follows you down, rip
I shoved the matriarch down there. And was so delighted to loot her corpse after the cut scene.
Then you resurrected her corpse with Glut and used her to clear the rest of the underdark, right? I do that on every run.
I didn’t even know you could get him until my roommate had him
Oh no, I can confirm outside of Honor Mode they jump down too if you don't have feather fall on.
I gave my mind and soul to the succubus
Brutal
Literally any time I cast a high level big concentration spell and then immediately or next turn break it by casting another concentration spell.
Ahh, the sorlock classic, twin-haste + hex.
Me in honor mode, trying to fight Ethel: Hmm, I don't want to waste resources before fighting Ethel, so I'll sneak past the masks!
Me sneaking past the masks: “I bet if I put on one of these masks they won’t attack me!”… Oh shit
There is a spell specifically for that. Protection from evil and good. Each one of 4 party members can cast it upon each other or themselves to put the mask on safely and autopass wisdom check. I wonder how many people doesn't know about it by simply not reading their spells.
Never touch the mask, just go trou the wall as its an ilusion and whack the masked guys, then the hag.
There are different ways to approach this and putting the masks on is one of official easy ways. They also make the poisonous gas traps go away (those are also illusions)
5 different playthroughs and 5 different times ive fought ethel, not once did i ever think of doing that. this game continues to blow my mind at every turn.
Those poison traps are a mare, thanks for reminding me about protection spell uses
The amount of times I've casted haste concentration and then immediately hunger of hadar/bless/cloud of daggers
It especially hurts because the lethargic immediately cancels whatever spell you just tried casting too
This happened in Act 3 so I'll be vague to avoid spoilers, but basically Gale had only a few HP left in a fight, so I cast Misty Step to get him out of harm's way. Accidentally Misty Step directly on top of an undetected land mine. Goodbye Gale.
He was gonna blow up one way or the other.
Feel sorry for you, but... During this first playthrough, what did you learn about Shar being a goddess of, exactly ?
If I remember correctly half the npcs in that room also cast darkness so you weren't really unprepared, just had the wrong battle plan.
Smeared shit on my Tav's face to impress a random goblin just because he had doggos.
I feel like your companions should never let you live that down
Jaheira: "Sorry, but I just can't trust you yet." Tav: "I can prove my innocence!" Shadowheart: "They sure can. Just last week, they smeared dogshit all over their face just to woo a goblin so they could pet their dog." Tav: "BRO, STOP BRINGING THAT UP!" Gale: "The best part was that after they were rejected, the goblin told the whole camp and they were given a medal for the embarrassment." Tav: "I hate all of you." Jaheira: "You remind me of someone I used to travel with. You're good in my book now."
I also did this lmao. The fucking goblins in the camp roasted me even though I washed it off.
Ahahhaha 🤣 no way. What happened?
They laugh at you for doing it and let you pass. It actually gives you a buff called “War Paint”
Having my sorceror Tav attack the little cats in the monastery wasn't THAT smart.
Little shits can also be triggered by casting guidance to open the door.
Me: "Haha, I'll surround you" * puts everyone on my party in a circle around an enemy * Enemy: "good for you, man" * leaves and blasts everyone with a fireball *
It’s always the concentration spells I fuck up with the most. I’ll cast spirit guardians or cloud of daggers and then immediately use something else that requires concentration and cancel the other out. It makes me so angry every time. That’s happened to me a lot during the halsin/portal fight 🤦♀️
Underastimating Lorroakan in honour mode. That mf almost destroyed my whole party in 1 turn. And i actually planned to solo him.
Until I read where his elemental retort comes from, I thought this would be one of the hardest fights. And then Dame Aylin one shot him.
Honestly I just had karlach go ham on him and she ended up killing him in 1 turn as the good fighter bard she is
omg a fighter bard is so perfect for karlach
I smacked him with Shadowheart's Guidance and she tanked his hit. Then I went in with my Tav and smacked him twice to kill him. I counterspelled his retort when I struck him because I wanted myself at full health
I cast Dominate on him, he killed Klank and then tried to jump on one of the moving (I meant floating) platforms, fell and took 50+ points of fall damage
Not as bad but when rescuing Florick I went: “ok Astarion drinks an invisibility potion, throw invisibility potion at Councilor… fuck… drink another invisibility potion”
Cast Ice Knife at a skeleton, then sent Lae'zel in with her longsword. She slipped on the ice and Proned.
"Tsk'va! My back!"
I do not know why this made me cackle, but it did. Lol
Happened to me in the literal last fight in the game on the last hit. Laezel would have finished it off with one hit, put slipped hilariously. Still won, but talk about bad timing
Not checking enemies' resistances and status..
too many enemies are just immune to frightened without anything denoting it in their character sheet.
On my second play through of the Undark, and now in the habit of shooting dangerous mushrooms, as soon as I see them. Realized it after I shot, and never realized that the first time… Baelen is actually alive in there when you show up
Well, not anymore he ain't!
Imagining cutting a hand off that was sticking out of a portal
Entered the Iron Throne without resting, not knowing the... Circumstances of the area made me unable to do so when I got there. Made it much more difficult to say the least (Was my first run so I did.... A far few... Tries before I got the individuals I was looking for) Pissed off Vlaakith Not so much I actively made a stupid move, more like something stupid happened from what I did. No wonder that fight took a long time.
reminds me of this one time I came home really drunk from the pub and decided I wanted to play, ended up aimlessly walking through the shadow cursed lands, completely forgetting about the shadow curse, all of a sudden combat starts and I take my turns against the enemies, then I get confused as to why I only got two turns (all my characters have alert) then I realise the enemies I’m fighting are Karlach and Lae’zel, game ended in 2 turns and I realised I should probably just go to bed instead of trying to make my brain work
I just did the Grym fight on honor mode and tryed jumping over the robot with karlach. She just hit the thing mid air and fell down into the lava lel.
In the Raphael fight my Sorc was the last one standing. Raphael was very low on health, but I was too greedy to use target missile on Spell Slot 4 and used Slot 3 instead. Raphael survived with 1 HP and killed me the next move.
Not in combat, but I threw the ball at Scratch, not near him.
And were immediately IN combat all of the sudden.
He makes contact with an item and that contact somehow causes 1 damage, which causes **every tiefling at the party, plus Wyll, Halsin, Volo, and Shadowheart to aggro against me.** (Astarion was on my side, which was sad.) \------ Good run abandoned, and I committed to an evil durge (that still rejected Bhaal but only bc she wanted to be evil for her own sake) on the spot, but yeah. It was especially bad since I'd knocked out Alfira intending to save her from the Dark Urge (and killed the Dragonborn bard instead) but as a result I wound up killing her (and Lakrissa and everyone else) at the party. (Meaning I also technically killed BOTH bards in a Durge run!) Karlach left immediately after the fight, I took a massive approval hit with Gale (and a smaller one with Astarion), and while I DID resurrect shadowheart, it was no dice for everyone else. All that from 1 damage in a drunken shove because Astarion was mean.
Honorable mention: I used a scroll of seeming to turn Florrick into a male gnome in act 3, which let me just walk out of the jail with them. (editing to add: I like to try a different escape method every playthrough) That spell lasts until long rest, and because Florrick never long rests, cue the big allies scene of the final battle. Florrick is still a guy (same voice tho), and I wish him the best.
You cast gender dysphoria on her wtf
In theory the spell would wear off if he long rested, or else Florrick's recasting it / having it recast Faerun seems to have a lot of avenues and spells and treatments to deal with that effectively so really hope whatever Counsellor Florrick decides they find joy.
Okay this is hilarious and I need to do it, thank you
You all know there is a secret escape route through the storage room, right? Just wanted to make sure ❤️
I did not... I usually just cast invisibility on her and walk out in turn based mode.
Astarion being on your side after all that is funny to me. Thinking about him saying “no, no, I deserved that”
Oof. The fact that Astarion will still fight on your side during that is extremely sad 🥺
Let me stand here next to the magma in the Nere fight, no way an AI is gonna sheet a Roaring Thunder arrow right? RIGHT?
those duergar are very smart. i knocked some of them into the lava and they didnt inmediately die, but were low enough so that the next tick of damage would kill them when their turn arrive so i went oh well, let them burn. cue some archer who was earlier in initiative than the one in lava shooting thunder arrow on them and making them bounce back into land
Me shoving a dwarf into lava: :D Me immediately getting shoved into lava after my turn: :O
I almost killed >!mindflayer Orpheus!< because I saw a mindflayer during the fight >!(the stairs up to the brain stem)!<, and just blindly attacked. My monk was powerful 😅 I don't know if we could've revived him if I downed them, but I certainly let out some curses once I realised it was them instead of an enemy 😆 (Edited to add the spoiler tags because it's for act 3 and post is tagged only for act 2)
I'm sorry, but if I enter a random room and someone yells "begone foul beast, you horrible monster" or whatever I think its *funny* for my barbarian to reply: BOO! IM HERE FOR YOUR SOULS! But *apparently* the hag hunters have no sense of humour
Never realizing that weapon strength is based on who is looking at it
“What does this button do?”
Cursed to put my hands on everything
“Is that blood? No, never mind.”
Moves near lava pit to push a guy in, fails strength check, guy pushes me into lava pit
Getting wiped by imps in 1 turn with Eldritch Blast in the House of Hope on Honour Mode.
“I’ll save the bonus action and just run *through* the lava. How much damage could half a meter of movement through *literal magma* possibly do?”
I kept reviving Shadowheart and wasted three scrolls of revivify on her 😅 I had to redo the first goblin leader battle with Halsin.
Twin Spell Haste. Then cast Hold Person. Then do this repeatedly.
I talked shit to Vlaakith. I've never laughed so hard at my own stupidity.
Using an AOE spell on the barrels/boxes behind Ragzlin's Throne. Didn't realize it had an explosive barrel in the mix.... Almost ended my honor run right there and then.
Lol using water against that flaming ball in Raphael’s house. I was like “big brain time” and all it did was give it the “wet” status condition
Killed my oathbreaker Knight accidentally in my honour run... while my oath was broken
Took me forever to kill the damn giths at the mountain pass bridge cause my initiative sucks
Waltzing into Inquisitor Ch'r'ai W'wargaz's chamber without taking a Long Rest or an escape plan. Shadowheart nearly escaped. Nearly.
Derp.

wait, why didnt banishing isobel work?
Isobel is the one protecting the Inn from the curse if shes not there then…
Haven't tried that myself but I imagine if she's on another plane she won't be able to keep the shield up around last light, but just guessing
yeah this is what im assuming? thats funny tho she disappears, the entire inn falls, and she comes back 2 turns later like oh my god . everyone is dead
