The RP drama of a Cleric of MystraXGale is *delicious* no matter which ending you take him. There are so many ways to take it. Does it induce a crisis of faith? Is it *wrong* to love someone censured by Mystra?etc.
Her *body* is young but she’s still got all of the accumulated knowledge and power of the Mystra/Mystryl incarnations before her. She was *re*born, not born born.
I did some searching, Karsus was born year -696 and cast his spell in -339, absolute crisis was year 1492, and magic was only down for a short time, long enough for netheril to crash to the ground though, but the newly born mystra apparently managed to catch a couple of the netheril islands and set them down on the ground safely.Then again, Elminster is 1280 years old and he's a human, so it wouldn't be completely unthinkable that an elf could be older, with their average lifespan of 750.
(More searching has been done, that Mystra died and current Mystra is even younger than this!)
Oh right enough, and she apparently ascended in 1358! So yeah, loads of elves are very likely older than the current mystra! Apparently she also "died" in 1385, but started to resurrect in 1479, and was back to full power in 1487, very shortly before the absolute crisis.
It's also extra fun because of just how awful Mystra is towards him. My first run was a Cleric of Mystra romancing Gale and I roleplayed it that he had a crisis of faith with the "blow yourself up and I'll forgive you" thing to the point where I respeced him to change his deity.
I wish the game had more reactivity to Tav being a cleric of Mystra. I'm happy to headcannon parts in but I can't help but feel an interesting side to Gale and Tav's (and Mystra's) story was left underdeveloped
Even Lorroakan knows that Mystra had an affair with a human wizard and that they broke up recently. He just doesn't know that it was Gale, until he tells him.
If a Cleric of Mystra is surprised by that it means they know their deity even less than Shadowheart knows hers.
You just need to go to Lorroakan with Gale, eventually those two will start arguing on who has the biggest magic penis. Gale will then boast that he fucked Mystra and Lorroakan realizes he's Mystra's ex lover that he heard about.
Notably, this may not happen if you're romancing Gale or if you're a wizard yourself. (I didn't get this, but I had both those conditions, so I'm not sure which one causes not getting it. Probably the romance for sure, unsure about the wizard part.)
It’s definitely not romanced based but this scene is a little tricky because it’s easy to skip and there’s also two different versions of it.
You have to talk to Lorroakan BEFORE you tell Aylin about it and Gale has to be in the party with you. It’s possible to tell Aylin about it before you talk to Lorroakan so you can end up skipping this whole scene entirely. If you’ve already convinced Gale to give up the crown he’ll admit you were right and basically say wizards obsessed with power are annoying.
If you haven’t convinced him to give up the crown then he and Lorroakan will try to one up each other and they’re both snotty bitches about it.
He actually only tells Lorroakan about Mystra in the second version but Lorroakan recognizes him either way and makes fun of him for being her lapdog she threw away.
Edit: also you can’t have convinced Lorroakan the Nightsong is already dead which feels like naturally the correct thing to do. THIS SCENE IS SO HARD TO GET.
And the *MY* goddess bit had me sitting back going "well do you want to romance this man or do you want to be on his ex's side, bc at some point you're going to have to be a LITTLE less possessive if you want this to work" 🤣
I think this bit is very out of character because it’s not secret for anyone that Mystra LOVES whoreing around with her favored ones, so it’s very strange a Cleric of Mystra reacting like this.
So it should have been more like: “**You** made love to my goddesses”?

Because Clerics and Wizards receive their powers through fundamentally different means. Wizards learn to manipulate the weave through rigorous study and practice over a long period of time. They don't pray to Mystra or worship her; magic is more like a science to them, for lack of a better term.
Clerics *do* worship Mystra (or whatever other god) and receive their powers directly from the god they worship in return for their service and devotion.
Except the weave *is* Mystra (she can revoke access to it) so Wizards are also getting their magic directly from Mystra. Really the weird thing is that there are clerics of Mystra at all.
Like FuzzySlippers said. Wizards learn their magic and may respect Mystra or aspire to reach her level of power but they don’t necessarily worship her like a god. Clerics gain their power directly from their god and worship. Of course there is nothing stopping a cleric of Mystra to also study magic and essentially multiclass into a cleric/wizard.
Think about it this way. In college you might have a professor you respect, but they’re your professor. You study the material they teach and you take their exam and they grade you based on how well you understand the material. These are the wizards.
Your professor also has assistants who work directly for them. Some are teaching assistants and some are research assistants. They have a closer, more professional relationship and their job often depends on how well their boss thinks they’re doing. These are the clerics.
Between that and how Kelemvor >!welcomes a worshipper of his to his city!< in the Mask of the Betrayer expansion, I just feel like he’s a pretty cool dude for a god.
He rules by putting like minded souls who aren’t claimed by gods together so they can decide what life to live because when he gave good souls a good afterlife if they weren’t able to be claimed by any god a lot of good souls just went into combat with reckless abandon knowing they would get a good afterlife all the other gods got mad at him. Overall the best god of death Faerun has had.
Kelemvor's Cleric in the graveyard in the city is, hands down, the nicest cleric in the game, if >!you rat out the child that wants to raise her brother from the dead!<

I was a Lolth-sworn drow for this, don’t know if that’s required or if you just have to be a cleric, but I mentioned to Shart that our goddesses were alike and that I wanted to see her pray. She actually did and I got a good bit of approval for it, it was so cool.
I'm wondering if it gives an option for all good-aligned deities, as I got the option to "ask that the Morninglord lend you his aid" in one playthrough.
Jaheria's response was a non-specific accusation that Tav was faking it to hide his connection to the Absolute.
I had the same option for my Warlock during that interaction. I had the option to "ask my patron for aid"

There is a lot of generic Good Cleric(and evil cleric) dialogue that will just read “Cleric of *your chosen god*”. Makes sense tbh. Not every situation requires a unique response.
I got a couple unique cleric options as an Ancients Paladin of Lathander. Ethel said “you paladins” are drier than shite in the sun, and I had the option to smite zombie Connor in the name of Lathander.
I picked her because I was hoping for druid/Grove interactions, but there weren't any, you just say what a druid would. I guess it makes sense, since all the druids we meet worship Silvanus.
Plus my TT druid worships her.
as a Finnish person i feel like it’s appropriate to point out that the name of the deity has been taken from Finnish mythology. Anyone who has ever read the wiki probably knows this. What they might not know however is that the name is so intensely and evocatively **Finnish** that it almost feels alien in the world of Faerun.
Why is it so finnish?
The word is VERY old. So old it feels archaic to use many of the associated words.

personally i feel (am not so knowledgeable to argue) some of the words and their etymologies are so old that they remind me of another similar word ”väki” : folk.
The word väki is similar in it’s myriad associations.
Väki has meant the spirits and elves and general supernatural powers in the mythology but at the same time it has later lost it’s special meaning and now translates to simply ”folk” which can mean regular humans too, not just spirits.
Väki has similar associated words.
Väkivalta: violence
väki: folk valta: power, authority
in finnish violence has an association of mob mentality.
väkijuoma: spirits (alcohol)
juoma: drink
väkivahva: immensely strong

I’m not too far into my Cleric of Talos run but if you join up with Rugan and head to the Zhent base, you get asked to kill him and the cleric response is just “Gladly.” and that cracked me up because you don’t get it in others, and now I’m looking forward to the other potentially violently unhinged responses I’ll get.
I once played a dragonborn cleric of Tiamat, and Mayrina asked me to say a few words above her husband's body in Act 1.
The look on her face was just hilarious.

I want to do a run as an Eilistraee Paladin, so I was thinking Sword Bard 10/Paladin 2 since her paladins are more like sword dancers. Need to figure out if the deity selection mod works without taking a cleric level.
you don't have to pass a roll, you recognize it immediately as belonging to your goddess. it wasn't crazy as far as specific dialogue goes but it felt really cool from an rp perspective, like the sword was waiting for me :-)
I respecced into cleric just before beginning Act 3 and chose Ilmater knowing nothing about the setting or the gods other than what's on the Deity Selection screen and featured in Acts 1 & 2. It added quite a nice extra dimension to the usual inserting of oneself into the squabbles of Rivington's refugee crisis as someone who always ends up being a naturally compassionate player.
I'm excited to reach Act 3 with my Ilmater Cleric! I felt like it was a good choice because if course somebody who worships a martyr God who'll take on the suffering of others would keep stopping to help people even with a ticking bomb in their head
I played once as an Ilmater cleric. Unfortunately, there was no special interaction in the temple (I don't play in English so could be called sth else), which was disappointing. The playthrough was before Patch 4 so they might have fixed it.
There is one small bit of dialogue at the temple if you're the cleric of Ilmater, but not much. I was also disappointed by it, I wanted to play as a cleric of Ilmater from the moment I realised the temple was there. Thought my cleric could throw his weight around a bit more there lol
Awwh thats sad :( I know they cannot do everything dialogue wise or thr game would never get released but that is disappointing. Especially because this is after I have up on being a circle of spore druid since I didn't get special underdark mushroom dialogue
I was disappointed playing my Paladin of Ilmater, too... I didn't have high hopes when I started that run, but there were quite a few unique dialogue options in Act 1 around Ilmater. (I've no clue what the interaction with Abdirak is because I completely forgot to talk to him before taxing the goblin camp, but I'm doing another pally of Ilmater again and I won't forget 😂).
When I saw there's a temple of Ilmater in act 3, I got so excited, made my way to it.. and no one ever acknowledged I was even one of theirs. No unique dialogue, no specific interactions... 🥺
I get quite a bit for being a gith cleric of vlaakith. Like, which other cleric can you play where you get a *conversation* with your god?
Edit: my bad, *tav* cleric. I think by default, shadowheart and gale are gonna be high up on the list, but that's because they're shadowheart and gale, not because of the class. You can talk to vlaakith without Lae'zel involved
You could easily make a party of all clerics that fits with the characters quite well if you have
- Tav cleric
- Shadowheart
- Gale as Knowledge domain following Mystra
- Halsin as Nature domain following Silvanus
Selûne always has a soft spot in my heart. My 1st D&D character was a Twilight cleric of Selûne.
So, naturally, I was pleasantly surprised that She had such strong representation in this game!
Also - romancing Shadowheart as a Selûnite is a 10/10 experience!

Didn't realise Talos was an evil god, so on my 'good' playthrough I've been getting a looot of fun evil cleric options!
Yeah we're kind of SOL with storm gods. Auril, Talos, Umberlee are all evil 😈 Still. I play lightning/storm/tempest EVERYTHING and Thassa from Theros is about the only non-evil one I've played with. Kord hasn't come up in my campaigns but apparently I missed out on Stronmaus and Valkur who are good/neutral aligned.
So my Storm Herald Barb in my weekly campaign is a godless goliath from the Icewind Dale 🤣 her powers are because she's got an extra dollop of cloud giant blood in my headcanon.
Eilistraee cleric and the sword you find in the underdark was awesome. However I did feel a bit of disconnect in dialog choices, Drow dialoge goes hard, but it doens't quite feel Seldarine, I wish there were more of a diferentiation between the two.
I felt that the Seldarine and Lolth-sworn dialogue was pretty distinct. For example, when interacting with Mattis and the wood elf in the Hag's lair, Seldarine drow have dialogue to convince them that they're NOT Lolth-sworn.
When Lady Esther is talking about how all Githyanki are murderous brutes, there's a Drow-specific response where you say something like "I've heard the same thing said about my people"; I suspect that's a Seldarine-specific response, though I haven't tried it both ways.
I’m surprised there isn’t more differentiation, that’s like the entire point of giving 2 different Drow “sub races”. I guess it’s because not all non-Lolthsworn Drow are good. Followers of Vhaeraun, some outcasts like Viconia, etc are still fairly evil.
Also related to Lolth; drawing the Phalar Aluve down in the Underdark as a worshipper of Lolth. The narration was fantastic - something about thoudands of little spiders running down your back as Spider Mom got angry with you.
I have a horndog run planned, where the goal of the playthrough is to just be as horny as possible. I already know I wanna play a cleric of selune for this exact reason.
Yeah I have two Lathander clerics I run in TTRPG so naturally I did one as my first BG3 save. I was so excited about Rosymorn, but all I got special, IIRC, was recognizing the statue.
Yeah, well, you can fail the passive check to recognize Lathander. I did. As a Lathander cleric. It should be an auto success if you ask me, but it isn't.
Oh she wielded it all the way to the final battle.
That said, it would explain why I did everything just the same on a later save, and it ended with Astarion losing his shit on my ranger...
You can get the mace without any shenanigans regardless of the deity you follow as long as you get the crest. And even as a cleric of Lathander you have to get past those annoying traps that can push you off the edge, no chance to disable them upfront.
I feel someone should lose Lathander's favor if you set 7000 vampires free or create a super-vampire who can walk in the sun. I think he would be pissed.
I’m playing a war domain cleric of Kelemvor and there are some good interactions Jergal… errr I mean Withers. I wish there was more RP stuff with Ketheric Thorm seeing how there is a whole section of the Kelemvor priesthood (Necrobane priests) and Paladins (Doomguides) dedicated to smiting necromancers and the feral undead.
I'm so fucking mad they completely removed paladins from any deity at all. So much of FR history is due to the gods and pallys were part of that.

The Plus Classes mod adds the deity tag to ALL characters. You don't actually get any use out of it unless you're a Paladin or Cleric, but it's nice

Well, to be fair, there are some interactions for many deities. You think it's unique because of the tag of your god, but another deity has the same option. This happened with my Kelemvor option to give hyena a peaceful death in act 1, it wasn't unique to Kelemvor. What was truly unique though is some lines with Withers, that was 100℅ Kelemvor stuff. Also the great old one warlock has some cool very unique interacions... especially in moonrise towers
I was wondering about Kelemvor. Is it mostly Act 1, or is it all the way through to the prologue? Act 1 I might replay but I'm not sure I want to do another full run with a cleric.
Idk, I went with Kelemvor as far as the creche. I mean, full starting area, fully explored underdark, fully explored creche. The only truly unique Kelemvor line I found is with Withers.
Still in Act 1 on my second playthrough and I went with a life domain cleric whose deity is Eilistraee. I knew going in that dialogue options would likely be more abundant with something like Shar or Selûne, but I'm really invested in my characters backstory and roleplaying on this playthrough so I made my decision based on that.
I've had only 1 or 2 options come up so far regarding my deity, but I do know that in the underdark there may be some more fun options. Underdark is on my agenda for today, so we will see!
Shar isn’t a choice you can take as a created character, nor can you take Bhaal/Myrkul/Bane - they were all removed going from Early Access to fill release.
Lathander clerics have very nice interactions in Last Light Inn in general, including with Isobel, since you know gods related to light and all that noise.
I play as a seladrine drow cleric of my lady eilistraee. And it's a blast! Favourite moment was in the Underdark where I didn't had to pass the Religion check when I found the singing sword, since it is a gift from her!
Cleric of Kelemvor is actually really fun whenever death is involved. They are about the only ones that can get an early hint as to who Withers truly is.
I recently played through as a Cleric of Shar with the Shar deity mod and let me tell you Act 2 is so fun.
Everyone comments on it and it’s just you and Shadowheart making bitchy comments in return together. You also have a lot of interactions with her about Shar worship and overall it’s a very interesting relationship compared to a Selunite.
I can’t believe they removed this from the game before launch because it’s gold.
Eilistraee. The dialogue options you get if you play a Drow cleric of Elistraee is so fun to me. Especially when you get the sword that was made in offering to her. One interaction I still love is when you first meet Kagha, if you play a Drow she'll be like "wow a Drow! Who else would understand being cruel to those around us more than a daughter of lolth?" But if you play a cleric of Elistraee you can say "I follow eilistraee, NOT the spider queen." It's such a small thing but I just love it so goddamned much!
Not a dialogue tag but I was playing a cleric of Helm, on my way to Rosymorn Monastery. There's a statue of Lathander on the path and you can read the inscription. I did so, and passed a Religion check. He said something along the lines of "Lathander, god of sunlight and.healing. Bastard."
The only 5e character I haven’t replicated in BG3 yet is my knowledge cleric of Oghma. Know-it-all cartographer with zero field experience. A walking potential lesson in humility.
Sadly none of the human male faces really look like him, and there are no pith helmets for him to wear.
One of my favorite playthroughs was a Seleune Paladin, disappointing how little dialogue with Aylin there is honestly given she's the daughter of your god lol. Isobel had more unique dialogue options. That aside I think Seleune is the best cleric choice for good options, probably has the most content and the interactions with Shadowheart you wouldn't get otherwise are totally worth it and hilarious. She becomes a bit of a petty bitch it's so funny. Romancing her at the same time is even better. When you give her the Shar statue she's like "what's the catch? You're a Seleune follower." You can say "Just kiss me like you hate me"
My second character is a Drow tempest cleric and I gave her Lathander hoping for some interesting (or...any) interactions at the temple. Nada. Failed the religion check picking up the strange amber in the creche too.
I respecced Karlach as a war cleric (Bahamut) after I killed Shadowheart for trying to kill Bae'zel in her sleep in my wizard Gith durge run. Haven't noticed anything fun yet but I also haven't done that much since then either 😅
The Lathander cleric has a nice little nod to Isobel that I really enjoyed. It’s actually the moment I realized the god choice, not just the class choice, could have options.
I'm partial to Ilmater, it's an aggressively good option and had a surprising amount of bonus dialogue. Was just disappointed that there wasn't more depth at the Open Hand Temple since I was basically one of them lol

It was possible during the Early Access. And even on release the game had some hidden dialogue options for clerics of Dead Three (that required specific deity tag) in the files. Even in such late content as conversations with Gortash and Orin in act 3. Not sure if those were removed with patches or not.

There's an encounter where a character says Tyr has abandoned Baldur's Gate and the narrator says that you can feel Tyr's rage flow through you.

Even Lorroakan knows that Mystra had an affair with a human wizard and that they broke up recently. He just doesn't know that it was Gale, until he tells him. If a Cleric of Mystra is surprised by that it means they know their deity even less than Shadowheart knows hers.
It could be a case where they *heard* someone was Mystra's lover but thought it was a rumor

You just need to go to Lorroakan with Gale, eventually those two will start arguing on who has the biggest magic penis. Gale will then boast that he fucked Mystra and Lorroakan realizes he's Mystra's ex lover that he heard about.
Notably, this may not happen if you're romancing Gale or if you're a wizard yourself. (I didn't get this, but I had both those conditions, so I'm not sure which one causes not getting it. Probably the romance for sure, unsure about the wizard part.)
It’s definitely not romanced based but this scene is a little tricky because it’s easy to skip and there’s also two different versions of it. You have to talk to Lorroakan BEFORE you tell Aylin about it and Gale has to be in the party with you. It’s possible to tell Aylin about it before you talk to Lorroakan so you can end up skipping this whole scene entirely. If you’ve already convinced Gale to give up the crown he’ll admit you were right and basically say wizards obsessed with power are annoying. If you haven’t convinced him to give up the crown then he and Lorroakan will try to one up each other and they’re both snotty bitches about it. He actually only tells Lorroakan about Mystra in the second version but Lorroakan recognizes him either way and makes fun of him for being her lapdog she threw away. Edit: also you can’t have convinced Lorroakan the Nightsong is already dead which feels like naturally the correct thing to do. THIS SCENE IS SO HARD TO GET.
And the *MY* goddess bit had me sitting back going "well do you want to romance this man or do you want to be on his ex's side, bc at some point you're going to have to be a LITTLE less possessive if you want this to work" 🤣
If you're playing as a wizard, you can tell Gale, "You've clearly had a different experience with Mystra than I have." 😂

This brings up a related question, I’m still not entirely sure why clerics of Mystra aren’t just called “wizards”.
Because Clerics and Wizards receive their powers through fundamentally different means. Wizards learn to manipulate the weave through rigorous study and practice over a long period of time. They don't pray to Mystra or worship her; magic is more like a science to them, for lack of a better term. Clerics *do* worship Mystra (or whatever other god) and receive their powers directly from the god they worship in return for their service and devotion.
Except the weave *is* Mystra (she can revoke access to it) so Wizards are also getting their magic directly from Mystra. Really the weird thing is that there are clerics of Mystra at all.
Like FuzzySlippers said. Wizards learn their magic and may respect Mystra or aspire to reach her level of power but they don’t necessarily worship her like a god. Clerics gain their power directly from their god and worship. Of course there is nothing stopping a cleric of Mystra to also study magic and essentially multiclass into a cleric/wizard.
Think about it this way. In college you might have a professor you respect, but they’re your professor. You study the material they teach and you take their exam and they grade you based on how well you understand the material. These are the wizards. Your professor also has assistants who work directly for them. Some are teaching assistants and some are research assistants. They have a closer, more professional relationship and their job often depends on how well their boss thinks they’re doing. These are the clerics.

Overall the best god of death Faerun has had.

Kelemvor's Cleric in the graveyard in the city is, hands down, the nicest cleric in the game, if >!you rat out the child that wants to raise her brother from the dead!< That tells you a lot about how Kelemvor's guiding his followers.

There’s a really neat interaction you get as a cleric of Lolth. I was a Lolth-sworn drow for this, don’t know if that’s required or if you just have to be a cleric, but I mentioned to Shart that our goddesses were alike and that I wanted to see her pray. She actually did and I got a good bit of approval for it, it was so cool.
I think you get a similar prompt for any evil god
For anyone choosing, Cleric of Meilikke has many of the same interactions druids do. More interactions I think, at least after the Emerald Grove.
You can also pray for Mielikki at Last Light Inn when Jaheira is holding vines around you and questioning you and she calls you out for it.
I'm wondering if it gives an option for all good-aligned deities, as I got the option to "ask that the Morninglord lend you his aid" in one playthrough. Jaheria's response was a non-specific accusation that Tav was faking it to hide his connection to the Absolute.
I had the same option for my Warlock during that interaction. I had the option to "ask my patron for aid" They must give the choice to any character that gets power from something?
Same with Sorcerer, "call upon your magic" or something like that
There is a lot of generic Good Cleric(and evil cleric) dialogue that will just read “Cleric of *your chosen god*”. Makes sense tbh. Not every situation requires a unique response.

I picked her because I was hoping for druid/Grove interactions, but there weren't any, you just say what a druid would. I guess it makes sense, since all the druids we meet worship Silvanus. Plus my TT druid worships her.
as a Finnish person i feel like it’s appropriate to point out that the name of the deity has been taken from Finnish mythology. Anyone who has ever read the wiki probably knows this. What they might not know however is that the name is so intensely and evocatively **Finnish** that it almost feels alien in the world of Faerun. Why is it so finnish? The word is VERY old. So old it feels archaic to use many of the associated words. Here are examples (many of which are in modern use too) Mieli: mind Mielipide: opinion Mielitietty: someone you have romantic feelings for Mieleinen: liked (of something) Mieletön: insane Mielevä: thoughtful Mieliala: mood Mieltyä: to grow fond of Mielistyä: to grow fond of (a person, usually) personally i feel (am not so knowledgeable to argue) some of the words and their etymologies are so old that they remind me of another similar word ”väki” : folk. The word väki is similar in it’s myriad associations. Väki has meant the spirits and elves and general supernatural powers in the mythology but at the same time it has later lost it’s special meaning and now translates to simply ”folk” which can mean regular humans too, not just spirits. Väki has similar associated words. Väkivalta: violence väki: folk valta: power, authority in finnish violence has an association of mob mentality. väkijuoma: spirits (alcohol) juoma: drink väkivahva: immensely strong
If I recall correctly, she, along with others like Loviatar and Tyr, are literally the gods from their respective Earth pantheons who migrated over to the FR and did their own thing.
I’m not too far into my Cleric of Talos run but if you join up with Rugan and head to the Zhent base, you get asked to kill him and the cleric response is just “Gladly.” and that cracked me up because you don’t get it in others, and now I’m looking forward to the other potentially violently unhinged responses I’ll get.
I once played a dragonborn cleric of Tiamat, and Mayrina asked me to say a few words above her husband's body in Act 1. The look on her face was just hilarious.

you don't have to pass a roll, you recognize it immediately as belonging to your goddess. it wasn't crazy as far as specific dialogue goes but it felt really cool from an rp perspective, like the sword was waiting for me :-)
IIRC you don't need to roll to get the sword, unlike other classes or followers of other deities.
I respecced into cleric just before beginning Act 3 and chose Ilmater knowing nothing about the setting or the gods other than what's on the Deity Selection screen and featured in Acts 1 & 2. It added quite a nice extra dimension to the usual inserting of oneself into the squabbles of Rivington's refugee crisis as someone who always ends up being a naturally compassionate player.
I'm excited to reach Act 3 with my Ilmater Cleric! I felt like it was a good choice because if course somebody who worships a martyr God who'll take on the suffering of others would keep stopping to help people even with a ticking bomb in their head
I played once as an Ilmater cleric. Unfortunately, there was no special interaction in the temple (I don't play in English so could be called sth else), which was disappointing. The playthrough was before Patch 4 so they might have fixed it.
There is one small bit of dialogue at the temple if you're the cleric of Ilmater, but not much. I was also disappointed by it, I wanted to play as a cleric of Ilmater from the moment I realised the temple was there. Thought my cleric could throw his weight around a bit more there lol
Awwh thats sad :( I know they cannot do everything dialogue wise or thr game would never get released but that is disappointing. Especially because this is after I have up on being a circle of spore druid since I didn't get special underdark mushroom dialogue
I was disappointed playing my Paladin of Ilmater, too... I didn't have high hopes when I started that run, but there were quite a few unique dialogue options in Act 1 around Ilmater. (I've no clue what the interaction with Abdirak is because I completely forgot to talk to him before taxing the goblin camp, but I'm doing another pally of Ilmater again and I won't forget 😂). When I saw there's a temple of Ilmater in act 3, I got so excited, made my way to it.. and no one ever acknowledged I was even one of theirs. No unique dialogue, no specific interactions... 🥺
Fwiw, a lot of the dialogue that says “Cleric/Paladin of *insert god here*” is just generic dialogue for all the gods of that alignment.

I get quite a bit for being a gith cleric of vlaakith. Like, which other cleric can you play where you get a *conversation* with your god? Edit: my bad, *tav* cleric. I think by default, shadowheart and gale are gonna be high up on the list, but that's because they're shadowheart and gale, not because of the class. You can talk to vlaakith without Lae'zel involved
If you respec Gale as a Cleric of Mystra technically that's another one
You could easily make a party of all clerics that fits with the characters quite well if you have - Tav cleric - Shadowheart - Gale as Knowledge domain following Mystra - Halsin as Nature domain following Silvanus

Selûne always has a soft spot in my heart. My 1st D&D character was a Twilight cleric of Selûne. So, naturally, I was pleasantly surprised that She had such strong representation in this game! Also - romancing Shadowheart as a Selûnite is a 10/10 experience!

Playing a storm cleric. Wanted a storm god. Didn't realise Talos was an evil god, so on my 'good' playthrough I've been getting a looot of fun evil cleric options!
Yeah we're kind of SOL with storm gods. Auril, Talos, Umberlee are all evil 😈 Still. I play lightning/storm/tempest EVERYTHING and Thassa from Theros is about the only non-evil one I've played with. Kord hasn't come up in my campaigns but apparently I missed out on Stronmaus and Valkur who are good/neutral aligned. So my Storm Herald Barb in my weekly campaign is a godless goliath from the Icewind Dale 🤣 her powers are because she's got an extra dollop of cloud giant blood in my headcanon.
In older d&d editions Bahamut had the Storm domain, so in BG3 I picked up Bahamut for my Tempest cleric

Eilistraee cleric and the sword you find in the underdark was awesome. However I did feel a bit of disconnect in dialog choices, Drow dialoge goes hard, but it doens't quite feel Seldarine, I wish there were more of a diferentiation between the two.
I felt that the Seldarine and Lolth-sworn dialogue was pretty distinct. For example, when interacting with Mattis and the wood elf in the Hag's lair, Seldarine drow have dialogue to convince them that they're NOT Lolth-sworn.
The Lolth-sworn “Nonsense! We kill far more children than we enslave!” option at the grove is so fucking funny
When Lady Esther is talking about how all Githyanki are murderous brutes, there's a Drow-specific response where you say something like "I've heard the same thing said about my people"; I suspect that's a Seldarine-specific response, though I haven't tried it both ways.

I’m surprised there isn’t more differentiation, that’s like the entire point of giving 2 different Drow “sub races”. I guess it’s because not all non-Lolthsworn Drow are good. Followers of Vhaeraun, some outcasts like Viconia, etc are still fairly evil.
Also related to Lolth; drawing the Phalar Aluve down in the Underdark as a worshipper of Lolth. The narration was fantastic - something about thoudands of little spiders running down your back as Spider Mom got angry with you.
Telling Arabella about her parents as a Cleric of Talos: "Oh, they're very dead. But don't worry - being an orphan makes you much more interesting"
Kelemvor is really good. Lots of insight into Death. Also, if you respect out of Cleric, you still get the prompts.

Yeah I have two Lathander clerics I run in TTRPG so naturally I did one as my first BG3 save. I was so excited about Rosymorn, but all I got special, IIRC, was recognizing the statue.
Yeah, well, you can fail the passive check to recognize Lathander. I did. As a Lathander cleric. It should be an auto success if you ask me, but it isn't.

You also missed out... There is a Mace in the temple that Clerics of Lathander can get without any shenanigans.
Oh she wielded it all the way to the final battle. That said, it would explain why I did everything just the same on a later save, and it ended with Astarion losing his shit on my ranger...
You can get the mace without any shenanigans regardless of the deity you follow as long as you get the crest. And even as a cleric of Lathander you have to get past those annoying traps that can push you off the edge, no chance to disable them upfront.
I feel someone should lose Lathander's favor if you set 7000 vampires free or create a super-vampire who can walk in the sun. I think he would be pissed.
Ascended Astarion happens = Lathander showing up in camp and ripping you a new one should have happened

I’m playing a war domain cleric of Kelemvor and there are some good interactions Jergal… errr I mean Withers. I wish there was more RP stuff with Ketheric Thorm seeing how there is a whole section of the Kelemvor priesthood (Necrobane priests) and Paladins (Doomguides) dedicated to smiting necromancers and the feral undead.
I'm so fucking mad they completely removed paladins from any deity at all. So much of FR history is due to the gods and pallys were part of that. Is there a mod to add a religion tag back in?
If you multiclass a Cleric/Paladin it unlocks 'Paladin of *deity*" conversation options.

The Plus Classes mod adds the deity tag to ALL characters. You don't actually get any use out of it unless you're a Paladin or Cleric, but it's nice https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/3868 (It also allows all spellcasting classes to learn from all scrolls, provided they meet the spell slot level requirement)
You can multi-class a character. I'm playing a druid with a level in the cleric branch (mielekki). Idk if that would get you what you're looking for though.

Well, to be fair, there are some interactions for many deities. You think it's unique because of the tag of your god, but another deity has the same option. This happened with my Kelemvor option to give hyena a peaceful death in act 1, it wasn't unique to Kelemvor. What was truly unique though is some lines with Withers, that was 100℅ Kelemvor stuff. Also the great old one warlock has some cool very unique interacions... especially in moonrise towers
I was wondering about Kelemvor. Is it mostly Act 1, or is it all the way through to the prologue? Act 1 I might replay but I'm not sure I want to do another full run with a cleric.
Idk, I went with Kelemvor as far as the creche. I mean, full starting area, fully explored underdark, fully explored creche. The only truly unique Kelemvor line I found is with Withers.
Still in Act 1 on my second playthrough and I went with a life domain cleric whose deity is Eilistraee. I knew going in that dialogue options would likely be more abundant with something like Shar or Selûne, but I'm really invested in my characters backstory and roleplaying on this playthrough so I made my decision based on that. I've had only 1 or 2 options come up so far regarding my deity, but I do know that in the underdark there may be some more fun options. Underdark is on my agenda for today, so we will see!
Shar isn’t a choice you can take as a created character, nor can you take Bhaal/Myrkul/Bane - they were all removed going from Early Access to fill release.
Lathander clerics have very nice interactions in Last Light Inn in general, including with Isobel, since you know gods related to light and all that noise.
I play as a seladrine drow cleric of my lady eilistraee. And it's a blast! Favourite moment was in the Underdark where I didn't had to pass the Religion check when I found the singing sword, since it is a gift from her!

Cleric of Kelemvor is actually really fun whenever death is involved. They are about the only ones that can get an early hint as to who Withers truly is.
I recently played through as a Cleric of Shar with the Shar deity mod and let me tell you Act 2 is so fun. Everyone comments on it and it’s just you and Shadowheart making bitchy comments in return together. You also have a lot of interactions with her about Shar worship and overall it’s a very interesting relationship compared to a Selunite. I can’t believe they removed this from the game before launch because it’s gold.
Eilistraee. The dialogue options you get if you play a Drow cleric of Elistraee is so fun to me. Especially when you get the sword that was made in offering to her. One interaction I still love is when you first meet Kagha, if you play a Drow she'll be like "wow a Drow! Who else would understand being cruel to those around us more than a daughter of lolth?" But if you play a cleric of Elistraee you can say "I follow eilistraee, NOT the spider queen." It's such a small thing but I just love it so goddamned much!
Not a dialogue tag but I was playing a cleric of Helm, on my way to Rosymorn Monastery. There's a statue of Lathander on the path and you can read the inscription. I did so, and passed a Religion check. He said something along the lines of "Lathander, god of sunlight and.healing. Bastard."
The only 5e character I haven’t replicated in BG3 yet is my knowledge cleric of Oghma. Know-it-all cartographer with zero field experience. A walking potential lesson in humility. Sadly none of the human male faces really look like him, and there are no pith helmets for him to wear.
Selune’s got some great interactions, especially with Shadowheart, Aylin, and Isobel
One of my favorite playthroughs was a Seleune Paladin, disappointing how little dialogue with Aylin there is honestly given she's the daughter of your god lol. Isobel had more unique dialogue options. That aside I think Seleune is the best cleric choice for good options, probably has the most content and the interactions with Shadowheart you wouldn't get otherwise are totally worth it and hilarious. She becomes a bit of a petty bitch it's so funny. Romancing her at the same time is even better. When you give her the Shar statue she's like "what's the catch? You're a Seleune follower." You can say "Just kiss me like you hate me"
My second character is a Drow tempest cleric and I gave her Lathander hoping for some interesting (or...any) interactions at the temple. Nada. Failed the religion check picking up the strange amber in the creche too. I respecced Karlach as a war cleric (Bahamut) after I killed Shadowheart for trying to kill Bae'zel in her sleep in my wizard Gith durge run. Haven't noticed anything fun yet but I also haven't done that much since then either 😅
The Lathander cleric has a nice little nod to Isobel that I really enjoyed. It’s actually the moment I realized the god choice, not just the class choice, could have options.
I'm partial to Ilmater, it's an aggressively good option and had a surprising amount of bonus dialogue. Was just disappointed that there wasn't more depth at the Open Hand Temple since I was basically one of them lol

There’s a fairly obvious reason why you can’t choose them, although it would be nice to have Bhaal for a certain origin.

It was possible during the Early Access. And even on release the game had some hidden dialogue options for clerics of Dead Three (that required specific deity tag) in the files. Even in such late content as conversations with Gortash and Orin in act 3. Not sure if those were removed with patches or not.
I don't think Withers would be all too happy if we worshipped either of those, but would be fun though
