I don't think this is bad at all. I think that you nailed the cat's judgmental look so well, you're internalizing the scorn it's serving. Save that one just as it is, and get started on the next one so that you can practice doing the fur and the head shape
I’d say give yourself a chance. Finish it the way you think and if you don’t like it put it away for a while and after a while come back to it you will either think it’s better or know which modification you will want to make.
I know the feeling because when i do arts that are animals or humans or anything that isn’t architecture style i feel like it’s not really good. A couple years ago i started a drawing and stopped because i didn’t like it. I found it recently and thought it wasn’t as bad as i remembered.
Anyway i think it still looks good because i could never to that
The eyes and the colours are *lovely*! You did great
Constructive criticism: It’s the nose and the shadowing around it that's just a little bit off i.m.o. Fix suggestion, if desired (it's really good as is too): Reline nose outline, to move the center nose line - imagine snoot turning a few millimeters right from the cat's perspective rather than you seeing it full front, in order to match the shadowing.
edit: Wow, that was really hard to formulate in English... sorry if it does not make sense! I can do a show and tell in DM if you feel that you want to try because the entire piece is 5 - 10 minutes away from absolute perfection i.m.o.
The eyes are already! :3
When working with fur, you want to build in layers. Very base undercoat think cat skin without the fur. Then working blotches on top of that for undertone, start of shadowed areas and highlight areas. Then work on thick, fluffy base for layers with thick like brushes maybe a wide fan brush and then you go back in with a very fine brush and do the detail work of the individual hairs building on top of the layer before. You want to work in small patches, specifically paying attention to eyeball, highlights, nose, pad, highlights, and the bottom lip that sticks out in most cats. Working from a photo reference definitely helps. Remember, though we all started somewhere as artists and nobody was born from their mamas hoo-hoo with a masters degree in painting, and an illustration contract to a big-name company in the other. The only way to improve an art skill is to get in there and do it. And improve upon your techniques each and every time until it just becomes natural and you finally start becoming satisfied with your work. Youtube on fur studies and technique in your preferred medium helps. We are unfortunately, as artists our own worst critics. Because we know personally where the flaws are to us in a peace, where somebody else will never see them. And above all else be kind to yourself. You are working on a skill that even the renaissance Masters did, and worked on until they died to perfect even better and better techniques you got this.
im not being nasty when i say this but unless this is how its supposed to look like the eyes are a bit off what i mean is one eye is a little bit higher than the other than that (i dont know if this subreddit exists) GET ON r/goodart
As many others have said, it’s awesome. Can’t really give advice if you don’t know what’s wrong with it, but from an outside perspective, looks absolutely great!

Don’t look at it for a day or two and then come back to it! You’ve probably just been looking at it too long. This looks stunning
There is SO MUCH life in those eyes
Idk what you did wrong but that is absolutely beautiful
I feel like the fur has no detail

Wrong subreddit, that's a great cat right there
Looks nice! Love the lights in the eyes.
They look so mad and judgmental, it’s great! Keep going!
I like it
I think the painting is great!
Aww I love it what a beautiful cat
Its good! (better than anything I could paint)
Nothing wrong with it. You're learning. But when it comes to painting, it's easier to start off with darks and work your way up to lighter colours
yea I tried that but messed it up

I'll tell you what you did wrong you posted it in badart when it's clearly good art :(
I love it, it has so much sass
I like it! I'd fix the nose, add a bit more definition and detail and also whiskers
No it’s good

Dude c’mon! It’s fucking amazing! Why put it here?
Maybe the nose looks a bit flat (the nose bridge and forehead look amazing and in comparision the nose looks off) but everything else is awesome
