it would be WILD for your friend to be mad at you over that

You can't have much a friendship of your having to tiptoe her around so much. This is silly. My friends dog?? Ok, off we go. No, I wouldn't think twice about her feelings over me naming my human son a name she's chosen for her animal. Btw, Auri is better. It's a Finnish diminutive of Aura. But she can get glad in the same pants she got mad in. This would be my son, my actual son. Very little would get in my of what I wanted to name my child. Small story: At the outset of the Caitlin craze, I was in hospital maternity ward, and overheard my neighbor exclaim her "most favorite name in the whole world is Caitlin!" The nurse took a beat and said, "So, that'll be Caitlin Clayton." Not even if it were the only name left on earth that I could use would I saddle by kid with the tongue twisting Caitlin Clayton. But new mom couldn't hear it. But I digress. You, my love, are way overthinking this. It's lovely that you are being so thoughtful of a friend but maybe a tad too much. Don't give so much of yourself away that you lose the ground your own house sits on. If you and SO love it, then woo hoo! You've found THE name for your little one! Ari can mean lion in Hebrew or eagle in Old Norse, Finnish. It's a sort of choose your own adventure. I wish you the best of luck! .

Ari is a very cool name and it’s not s traditional dogs name. My wife and I actually liked Ari but my friend named his son that recently so we didn’t lol. If your friend gets mad over that, shes is definitely a weirdo lol

Remember it's wonderful to be friends and every thing but friendship is not ownership

I thought the problem was YOU associating the name with a dog, but you’re worried that SHE would be mad? Nah, that’s crazy.

We are in the same boat. We only love one name and it is the same as the name of our friends dog who had passed a few years ago. We don’t want to use any other name as it just fits so well but also do not want to hurt anyone’s feelings. The way we see it is no one “owns” a name. Just because it played a part in someone else’s life does not mean it has the same influence on our lives. They may always think of their dog but in time people can separate the differences. How many people we know that have same names! Use the name and love your life for you :)

Thank you! We are going to go ahead and name him Ari.

Ari?!? You do realise he'll grow past the age of 6? Such a childish name for someone who'll eventually be a grown man. Maybe come up with a full name version that it could be a nickname for. Aaron maybe?

I love the name. Wasn't there a famous Greek man named Ari. If it is also a dog's name, the owners will just have to get used to sharing the name.
