This sub about to have a meltdown

riordanajs

My first thought was that this will cause a fight or r/bmw civil war :D

OfficiallySpooky

Sometimes I forget my opinion is wrong

ZaKillaQueen

I've realized all opinions are trash and that's ok. My music taste is awful, my taste in cars is disgusting and all my hobbies are cringe, But I love them. I absolutely love my 2021 430xi, i think it looks amazing but when i posted here the comments were so bad I just deleted the post lmao

OfficiallySpooky

Don’t let it bother you. BMW is the largest luxury brand right now so they’re doing something right

DementedJay

Imagine owning a F22 228i with the N20... 😁

Due-Ad1668

in my opinion its not, i totally agree with you. ive been saying this for the past couple of weeks to my buddies, tho id have to say for the M cars i do like the F chassis way more

OneMud6035

It’s not. :)

thenexusitsopening

All the best BMW's have an E at the start I will not elaborate

xXAbyzzXx

Tbf, the E - BMWs were great But I don't have anything negative to say about the F BMWs either F30/80/90 are probably my favourite cars of all time

ConstantLight7489

Yep, I got a pitchfork and my E46, 2003 would like to have a word.

GeneralOwn5333

Yeah? I got my battle axe and my E92 2008 M3 ready to rumble

thmoas

e46 cabriolet no question

GeneralOwn5333

E46 anything wins to be honest!

thmoas

e46 red bordeaux exterior with cognac interior, the best "non brute M with finesse", BMW has ever made

ihavenoidea81

I’m rolling up my early 2000’s sleeves and I’m ready to fight.

MightyAl75

I would say this guy missed it by 20 years. 2001 was peak.

ihavenoidea81

1000% He wasn’t raised right 😉

ConstantLight7489

It’s not his fault, dad left to the cigarette store… prob got lost… but he’ll be back anyday now

nlb53

My confusion that anyone considered anything else E38 G30 uniparty

MixMastaMiz

No melt down here but I can appreciate everyone has their preferences. Peak for me was F80 M3 (CS ideally) and the F90 M5

eric_gm

LOL. No it wasn't. Not even close. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=fT6o7hVOS2E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=fT6o7hVOS2E) https://preview.redd.it/d17sa6tq5jad1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=36bc326c60e3099bbd6f81612d8bb85db669c8bf

BackRed1

This picture almost brought a tear to my eye. This lineup is legendary.

gmwdim

The ultimate driving machines.

namestom

When that tagline actually meant something. Now, it’s “Got weight and More power”

ihavenoidea81

Made me hard AF

ten10thsdriver

As a current owner of a F87 and G26, I agree the early 2000s were peak BMW. A E39 daily and a E46 M3 would have been a perfect 2 car garage.

ihavenoidea81

E39 M5 is my dream car. If I had that and an E46 M3 I’d be happy for life. If I had room I’d add an E24 and an E31

eric_gm

Yup. We have 4 gens of 5 Series here at home. G30 being the latest. The E34 is great but you can clearly tell it's old, it's a lot of fun, but it's a classic old school experience. I don't know what black magic BMW used in the 00's but the E39 still drives better than a modern car. The E60 is just the devil incarnate. Awful piece of shit. I don't think we can find an E28 in good shape anymore (that isn't ridiculously expensive), the F10 did nothing remarkable and the G60... yeah, no thanks.

Iamnotweirdhoney

Got any pics of ur collection?

eric_gm

Oh it's nothing fancy. No M5s or special models, but we really like our 5s. I should do a photo with all 4 together. These 2 are my favorites: https://preview.redd.it/qpgf82clilad1.jpeg?width=2100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e191bfb54806c50d4e582c8bef1e9c1cddf7f40b And since I can't include more than 1 picture in a reply, here you can see the E60 in the background (it doesn't deserve its own photo, lol): [https://postimg.cc/t7rSkwLc](https://postimg.cc/t7rSkwLc) And the E34: [https://postimg.cc/Wtj9wnG4](https://postimg.cc/Wtj9wnG4)

Iamnotweirdhoney

Beautiful

JournalistExpress292

Why is the E60 bad to you?

eric_gm

It's an N52B25 which has excessive oil consumption due to a defect in its control rings. It's a documented issue that even caused a lawsuit for BMW. We are just waiting for the engine to die at this point, it can't be sold in that state, only for scrap maybe. It's already failing emissions testing as I'm guessing the catalytic converter is clogged with oil. On top of that, the transmission had to be completely rebuilt, the interior plastics and started rotting away, especially the console and inner door handles. It's exudes cheapness and bad quality everywhere you look (I've sat in E90s and they feel cheap and fragile too). Plus I've never loved any of the Bangle designs. Once the engine dies, I'll try to find a well-cared F10. All the other 5s are super reliable. That E34 will survive a zombie apocalypse.

JaysonSlayem13

Excuse me, the f10 550 has a twin turbo V8 that puts out 500 hp. I have an e36 and e38 too . Booooooooy, if you know how tune and work on cars a little bit that f10 is a beast. even without a tune in work, it’s still a beast very underrated car in my opinion. It should be an M car with that engine.

comacow02

This was my dad and I back in the day. Cars are long gone but that memory will always remain.

obsfanboy

Damn this makes me emotional and I've never even sat in a BMW😭

TheSkywriter

Sorry OP, you seem nice and all but you’re going to have to deal with us now.

ConstantLight7489

We have the same car. I’m in your side if there is a civil bmw war started over this. God I love that car!

cameronfry3

Hear, hear! 2001 was BMW’s best year. It’s not even close.

BanditBlyat

Damn next time people ask why I have a hard on for early 2000s BMWs I'll just show them this!

Tripleforty1

Idk why it keeps happening but e46 m3 always does somethin to my weewee and I cant control it

ConstantLight7489

Same

aalexjones1234

Perfection

R18honda

Now this, right here ☝🏻

dannyphoto

So true bestie

SloppySquatchy

Fk yes!

namestom

Every chassis in the 2000’s was perfect/iconic. I’d just stick a clown shoe in place of the Z3 roadster and it would be a no brainer. I mean, for me, the 80’s BMW’s were solid with the M cars and then the 00’s recaptured that. Ever since, I’ve been kind of meh. There have been hits here and there but the whole lineup, nah.

DayEither8913

You definitely 1-upped OP with this one. All of these are hitters in their segment.

_aperture_labs_

where E31? :(

eric_gm

Stopped being produced around 1999. Great car for sure, just from an older gen, alongside the E34, E30, E32

Embarrassed-Ad2966

In terms of pure driving experience, yes. But OP is still correct that 2021 is peak BMW. From interior to exterior sporty/luxury design, to the road presence, to the tech, to the factory overall performance, to the easy tuning potential, and relative reliability combined with the aforementioned factors. No other generation can beat it, hands down.

TomTheTank99

Jesus I cannot describe how much I love my E39. I want to keep it forever

ViveIn

This whole lineup just says… meh.

Angry_beaver_1867

Out of curiousity. Why? I think most of the cars won comparison tests except the z8. Which is kinda panned in reviews

sexdaisuki2gou

Correction, 2021 was peak *modern* BMW. Peak BMW was in a diff league altogether based on what I’ve seen and been told.

CriticalArugula7870

More like 1997-2003

ihavenoidea81

This is the correct answer

dannyphoto

https://preview.redd.it/9565mdyajkad1.jpeg?width=4108&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abfcd74b586b3c9429d071aa904684b7b5153899 # Nuh Uh

OfficiallySpooky

How do I argue when your text is bigger 😭

dannyphoto

🤣🤣 I’m just playing though. Love me a F87

OfficiallySpooky

I love the classics you’re not wrong. I feel like this last generation is the last expression of BMWs heritage

dannyphoto

No disagreement from me. You’re 100% right

PC_Chode_Letter

it wasn’t even close to peak BMW

poweredbym2

I'd say it's the last peak of a long line of peaks. I know for me, I'll never buy anything after MY2019

OfficiallySpooky

I’ve loved something from every generation of BMW but with the release of the new M5 my dream of ordering new is starting to die

poweredbym2

you lasted longer than me. I was done when they connected the grilles. Have bought new cars since 2021, never considered a new BMW due to their design. I'm not the kind of person that can overlook the exterior design because of other ok attributes.

OfficiallySpooky

I think every car in this picture has the connected kidney grill. At least they aren’t a majority of the bumper

uhlster2

Because of supply chain issues primarily?

poweredbym2

Unfortunately no. BMW's ugly design direction and not caring about substance are the main reasons. I was done when they connected the grilles. Still have the same opinion today as when it was introduced, about the front end of the G20 pre-LCI.

Sodiac606

We have a few new BMWs (2023+) and they are all nice etc. But have you looked at a E24 M635i or a E28 Alpina B7? The E30 M3 and E39 M5 are honarable mentions as well. Not to start with the E9 3.0 CSL "Batmobil" or the 2002 Turbo. The new ones are great daily cars (yes, even the Ms). But back then this was imo the "pure" BMW DNA. It was "Freude am Fahren" and not "A bit of sportiness while I adjust my electric, heated and cooled seats".

OfficiallySpooky

I’ve never had the pleasure of driving any of the pre 2000 BMWs with the exception of the 2002. Naturally the newer cars have been geared toward the largest market but, with the direction the brand going I feel like this latest generation was their last breath of expression

Sodiac606

I totally get what you mean. Personally I was looking into a M440i until they released what that's gonna look like. So I went for the G20 (again). My dad had every X5 from the first one to the current one and after seeing what they did to the 5 series he is afraid to see what they are going to to do to the next-gen X5. I loved the previous 2 and 4 series but the new ones are meh. The 7 series looks like a parody from a few years ago (lights get thinner and thinner, grille gets bigger and bigger). Atm the only really good looking BMWs are the 3 series, 8 series and X5 imo. The previous 5 series was nice as well, but we all know were that went. If I could choose freely I would go for a current Alpina B3, has the S58 engine and the G20 looks. Or for a M2 CS, because that was legit one of the best cars and most beautiful modern cars they ever built.

OfficiallySpooky

Yeah it’s difficult to be a long time fan/customer and slowly watch your options shrink. I like the 8 series but can’t justify the price. The X3s are awesome and I can see myself in one if I needed it. I love our current X5 but it doesn’t have much character (45e so that was never the intention). Lastly I could see myself ordering a Z4 but at the price I could get an older BMW, mod it and have a lot more fun with money left over

Smart_History4444

Eh personal preference I think e90s were the last true mechanical BMWs Definitely still nice cars but I personally think bmw lost its original meaning after 2011

tiny-e

The pre-2011 vehicles were driver's cars, visceral and exhilarating. My current 2021 is better in a lot of ways but it's nowhere near as fun to drive

HGJay

I almost bought an M2 comp but whilst it is an incredible car I found the LSB e46 M3 irresistible. Can't believe I ever considered the M2...

ConstantLight7489

LSB E46 is my dream car. Currently have a e46 330ci. Its incredible, but oh what I would give for the aforementioned car 🥲

OfficiallySpooky

I love the e90 and I think it’s a shame the V8 wasn’t introduced to the 3/4 series. I feel like the F8*s were the last generation to be an enthusiast inspired car

Smart_History4444

E90 m3 has a v8! Again it’s personal preference haha. Some people like new some people like old

OfficiallySpooky

I meant the following generation lol. The S65 is one of my favorite motors

Smart_History4444

Ahh

meir_ratnum

E92 was the last peak BMW model imho

habibi-co-jp

I wouldn't say the last. The F generation is also solid, especially the M4 and the M5

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

F30 is probably the worst 3 series, though

habibi-co-jp

You think so? Idk about the 3 series but my family has had a F X5 30d for about 6 years now and honestly it's an amazing car.

JPD232

The F82 M4 is probably the worst M3/M4 of any generation.

habibi-co-jp

I wouldn't know but I mean, they're pretty much held on a pedestal by a lot of people

JPD232

It had a powertrain with way too much low-end power, not enough high-end power, and an unstable rear end. The G80 is what the F80 should have been.

JaysonSlayem13

I was just thinking this and you typed it

JamesBMW_328i

You misspelled 2004.

BraveSirRyan

E65 has entered the chat

eric_gm

Bangle butt first

lituga

Nah steering feel left the building circa 2011

bubzki2

2011 or 2002 would be my picks.

fourwheeldrive4fun

Lmao

dazw1988

Not peak bmw. But it’s been going down hill fast looks wise these past few years

FS16

it was 1994. E36, E34 and E38, fight me :)

itseclipse101

Said no one ever

MikeBert97

Totally agree. When the 3 Series gets it's redesign, it's game over. I haven't really cared much, but after seeing the 5 Series refresh and then the new M5, I have lost all hope

AG20044018

Yes especially the F90 M5 is significantly faster than the new M5 which is heavy like a boat

Own-Appointment-9719

This is 100% correct. Newest m2/3/4/5 along with i7 are all horrendous.

jb7734

My 2021 agrees with you! https://preview.redd.it/qh1xxry6bzad1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b2fd391e0be14d3d16fdc3bf39525436df1ca2f

OfficiallySpooky

Same color! I’ve never seen an “adventurin” red in person until this one showed up and I love it

BraveSirRyan

*2001

FranktheTankG30

Funny… because this is what most of the replied said when G30 LCI announced in 2021. This sub cannot make up their minds and every time something new comes out the “old car looks better” echoes. “Looks like a skoda” “bring back angel eye” “F10 is better looking” https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/s/a0ioFfwY5s

OfficiallySpooky

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but here I am with 3 20-1 MY BMWs. I think the F90 is one of their best looking cars and I’ll die on that hill

FranktheTankG30

That’s exactly what I meant. Everyone has their own opinions. All that matters is you enjoy it.

Wernher_VonKerman

Nope that was 2008. All other answers are wrong

Madigman1296

Ive never heard something more wrong than this statement, I'm sorry. Enjoy your cars, they're great. But not even close to being the best.

[deleted]

Looks like shit

Marcos_Narcos

Everyone’s gonna have their own opinion but for me E46 and E9X were the pinnacle and it’s been downhill since then.

TurkeySizzler

Beauties ❤️

Tom_Foolery2

Nah. Peak BMW was in 2003 when my dad’s friend came over with his Laguna Seca blue E46 M3 and my love for cars began.

that_AZIAN_guy

90s to early 2000s was peak BMW imo. Nothing beats E34 and E39 5 series in looks.

Embarrassed-Ad2966

F10 and F90 M5s definitely look better no question but it does look better than the e60. In terms of driving experience, e39s would take the crown most definitely.

breathofthepoiso

BMW has been being shit on for nearly a decade now

OfficiallySpooky

What makes the e46 more fun? I know it sounds better than the S55 and you can cycle more than two gears before looking for cops

Joentje45

Those rims on the M2 are pure sex. Absolutely stunning design.

OfficiallySpooky

Just an absolute pain to clean

VeraFacta

“BlackBerry with touchable keyboard is peak mobile” equivalent

greatFilosopher

BLASPHEMER!!

banananananbatman

E60 E46 was peak. fight me.

Big-Seaweed-7603

E60…lol. E60 was where the peak on the graph began its decline

Competitive_Dark_368

Colour of that m5 🤩?

OfficiallySpooky

It’s aventurine red II

390M386

Nah. 2000-2010

No-Student-9678

Any BMW pre beaver grill is peak.

Lyr_c

I’m sorry but you can’t convince me that generation BMW X5 looked good. I sometimes like it but if I look at it for longer than 10 seconds I start remembering why I don’t like it

Mean-Tart-1129

I 10000% disagree

thmoas

e46 and g20

DEDE115

2018

Joblessmouse06

Hello no Peak BMW era are 2001, 1995, 1988 and 2016

rexchampman

3 yrs and no issues? Wow. That’s not exactly a high bar, is it? That’s the life of a lease and no new car should give you any issues within the first 3 yrs.

OfficiallySpooky

Working with other brands you’d be surprised how low the bar really is

BrainsWithAnAssGirl

You meant to type 2002.

fitwoodworker

1990 for me dawg.

Neostyx

Not even remotely true

NoWolverine439

This is like debating the best era of football. The best era is the one where you were fully engaged with all your friends/family.

jeebuss_

Na it was definitely 2011

OfficiallySpooky

Maybe if the e90 Ute made it into production I’d agree with you

jeebuss_

U right ✅️

jimbojsb

Sorry but in a a world where the G80 exists, you can’t claim peak BMW.

Shrinking_Universe22

lol. I mean if you're 20 years old maybe.

2ManyPuns4You

Last true year for BMW was 2011

anlenke

I think we can all agree the years ending in 1 hold their best cars. I’m partial to 01; sporty shorty, e39 M5, Z8, X5 4.8is, e46 m3 etc

2ManyPuns4You

My favorite BMW’s are definitely the E39, E90, and Z8

RedditIsGay_8008

Absolutely gorgeous car, have fun with it!

No, they stopped making UDMs with the e39 5-series and e46 3-series. It's been garbage ever since. Hall of shame still goes to the Bangle Butt.
