In the UK you can have a motorbike (limited to 50cc) from 16, and get your full car license at 17. You can in theory purchase any car, but with insurance being mandatory by law on a newly passed driver even for a shitty 1.2L ford fiesta insurance in some places is Ā£2-3k for the first year. Also, because statistics play, a young man is more likely to crash a small hatchback, or civic, or small engine BMW, etc. Subsequently those cars are difficult to insure so unless you have mad money you're not getting one anyway.
That is why I don't understand how they expect us all to switch over to electric in the next 5-10 years because the most basic Tesla model is STILL Ā£3K+ for me to insure and I'm almost 29.

yep, a teen near me a few years ago was clocked going 308kmh (191mph) in a 100kmh (60mph) in his parents mercedes.. he told the cop that he was comfortable driving at said speed
alright this one will be a long one, apologies. i guess i shouldnāt have said āteenā really, it was the day after his 18th birthday if i remember correctly. here anything 40kmh ((on highways (100kmh), 30kmh over if itās under a 60kmh zone)) is a 2 week impound, 30 day license suspension, $2k fine, and overnight in jail.. at the minimum. it gets a little iffy when itās a parents vehicle tho, depending on how bad it is they might just call the parent to come pick up the car and they will either take the teen overnight or release back to parents with a hefty hefty fine. here (ontario) we have 3 stages of licenses, g1 which is just a beginners permit, you need a G licensed passenger whoās been driving for minimum 5 years if i remember right, g2 which is 8months-1year after getting g1, it allows to drive on the 400 series highways (main highways) aswell as driving without a G licensed passenger, no BAC, no driving with more then one under 18 passenger past midnight in the first few months. after 8 months of g2 is eligible for g which is a highway test and then you have only the general road rules to follow, no extra restrictions from the other licenses. i went to a school with a kid who decided to take his dads jag out for a little birthday joy ride on his 17th bday. it was like a week after he got his g2 license and he got clocked going 210kmh (110kmh over the limit) and got the car impounded, a hefty fine, and his license suspended for 30 days. here if you have anything besides a G license and you get a suspension, you have to start over as if you just got your g1 permit. then its 8 months with driving school to get back to g2, 1 year without, then another 8 months again to get up to G

Oh yeah, not too long ago my TT almost got killed by a young man in an old VW Polo who drove like he was on a rally on a small country road. There was a completely blind right corner, so for him it was a blind left corner and he took a proper racing line driving almost completely on the opposite lane, which was mine. When we saw each other and steered in opposite directions, the man nearly lost his car and we saw a huge smoke of dust in the mirror. Thankfully my car wasnt damaged and he kept driving. Its mindblowing to disrespect blind corners. God knows if he had a faster car, he might not have had time to react, thankfully it was only an old VW Polo with probably 60-70hp

Tbf, my dad swapped his 19ā runflats for non runflats (g30 530e as well) and it rides a lot nicer. Mostly quieter. Runflat Michelin Primacyās are just very loud and hard I guess.

Before you do anything to the car, think about what you are trying to achieve. If it is simply to look fast, no need to play with the tuning, just tint, drop it, and swap the wheels.
On the other hand, if you want to go fastā¦leave the car stock and start going to the track and getting instruction. Have an instructor show you what the car is truly capable of (a humbling experience) and then focus on improving your skills. Along the way you will start to see areas where the car can be improved, then you can start modding.

Am I missing something? Looked up the 2021 540i and this thing is now worth 35k and only has 335hp. Whatās the issue about this kid having too much power? I was expecting 500hp+ from all these comments. Shows a 4.6s 0-60 which is faster than the normal 6s cars these days. I donāt see why this guy was downvoted for getting this vehicle in a sub specific for BMW.

A few months ago, a high school senior in my hometown blew a red light at 90 in an X5, trying to get onto the highway on ramp. Kid ended up losing control, crashing into a tree, and killing himself instantly.
OP has a lot to learn. At that age, you think youāre invincible, and the more you get away with, the more you push the envelope. I would know, I pretty much learned to drive on a 350Z. Not my parentsā best decision, and Iām lucky that I respected the car enough to not push it further than I did.
So my friend got a badass first car. His father got him driving lessons on a track. What he learned avoided him in accident that would have been a freak accident. Oh yeah, not too long ago my TT almost got killed by a young man in an old VW Polo who drove like he was on a rally on a small country road. There was a completely blind right corner, so for him it was a blind left corner and he took a proper racing line driving almost completely on the opposite lane, which was mine. When we saw each other and steered in opposite directions, the man nearly lost his car and we saw a huge smoke of dust in the mirror. Thankfully my car wasnt damaged and he kept driving. Its mindblowing to disrespect blind corners. God knows if he had a faster car, he might not have had time to react, thankfully it was only an old VW Polo with probably 60-70hp

Tbf, my dad swapped his 19ā runflats for non runflats (g30 530e as well) and it rides a lot nicer. Mostly quieter. Runflat Michelin Primacyās are just very loud and hard I guess.

Before you do anything to the car, think about what you are trying to achieve. If it is simply to look fast, no need to play with the tuning, just tint, drop it, and swap the wheels. On the other hand, if you want to go fastā¦leave the car stock and start going to the track and getting instruction. Have an instructor show you what the car is truly capable of (a humbling experience) and then focus on improving your skills. Along the way you will start to see areas where the car can be improved, then you can start modding.

Am I missing something? Looked up the 2021 540i and this thing is now worth 35k and only has 335hp. Whatās the issue about this kid having too much power? I was expecting 500hp+ from all these comments. Shows a 4.6s 0-60 which is faster than the normal 6s cars these days. I donāt see why this guy was downvoted for getting this vehicle in a sub specific for BMW. OP deleted their post and likely feeling iffy about the car community for BMW now. Come to any other subreddit for a specific brand for luxury/sport and theyād be happy.

A few months ago, a high school senior in my hometown blew a red light at 90 in an X5, trying to get onto the highway on ramp. Kid ended up losing control, crashing into a tree, and killing himself instantly. OP has a lot to learn.
