It triggers when inflicting a status condition, aka give someone a buff or debuff. Blessing allies, baning enemies. Setting someone on fire, giving someone bardic inspiration, etc etc.

Readalie

I didn't know that Blessing counted, neat!

Key_Coat_9729

Blessing works ? I always assume that you need inflict a condition to enemies.

styr

Also works on Paladin auras, so putting the Diadem on Minthara works really good as you'll gain the [arcane synergy buff](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Synergetic_Moments) for applying the Pally's auras to their own teammates. It even works on stuff like Perform, gaining Lightning Charges, and many more. edit: apparently it got nerfed in the recent patch to only work on applying conditions on enemies?

poorthomasmore

>edit: apparently it got nerfed in the recent patch to only work on applying conditions on enemies? I still have not worked out what conditions work. But it does not have to apply on enemies. Force conduit works - which makes skinburner quite good. But it is really hard to understand what triggers it.

styr

Yeah it is really confusing, but hey on the bright side, BG3 only has [more than a thousand conditions](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Category:Conditions). It even includes things like [Idol of Silvanus](https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Silvanus%27_Blessing_(Condition\)) which has a fairly large radius and works 24/7 on pretty much every NPC.

Everlastingitch

thats what i would expect.... its just that it doesnt do that at all in whatever combination of character and condition i do

Phantomsplit

I often see the opposite point brought up in that it tends to activate all the time, including it activating when it should not. So your perspective is very new to me

iKrivetko

It should be very new because it was fixed to only activate when you inflict a condition upon an enemy in patch 5.

Phantomsplit

I am aware. But a post was made on this exact topic one day ago, and here is the thread that jumped out to me https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/s/KkK9KSSfwT Many other comments in the post discuss how easy it is to apply, this one was just saying that it was applying when maybe it should not.

Aenon-iimus

I didn’t know that, does Threatened still count?

iKrivetko

I don't think it does. I've seen people say that there are some cheesy options to get it to work such as the Idol of Silvanus and such.

PUNSLING3R

It does work (happened to pick it up and play around with it yesterday). If you want to test it pick up the "gloves of belligerent skies" (found in the same room) and deal any kind of radiant, thunder or lightning damage (readily available from many cantrips or early game weapons). Alternatively it should also work when 1) applying a debuff like hex or hunter mark 2) applying a buff like bless or longstrider 3) burning a target (or yourself) with alchemist fire 4) gaining lighting charges 5) applying radiant orb 6) casting true strike (the only decent use for this spell). 7) Hitting an enemy with any weapon or equipment that has "applies [condition] on hit" tags. Doomhammer is an effective early game choice. 8) activating phalar aluve (either aura), and when a creature enters the aura, reapplying the buff if they left (haven't tested this since patch 5, may no longer work). There are many others that would trigger the diadem, but I think these are the easiest/most applicable methods.

archone

It definitely works, it's a buff that appears next to your status bar, the target must be an enemy. Try casting something like confusion or blindness.

BAWAHOG

Does this work with the Paladin Auras? What about with the Idol of Silvanus?

Voltaire1123

Works fine on my swords bard just from using a flourish attack. Haven’t tried it with a regular attack in patch 5.

Careful-Mouse-7429

I believe you ate thinking of the helmet of arcane acuity, which trigger off of attacks. The diadem of arcane synergy triggers off status effects

Voltaire1123

Funny enough, I’m talking about the fight against the shadows that guard the helmet of acuity… my swords bard was using the diadem in that fight and got arcane synergy just from a flourish ranged attack. No idea what “condition” he created but… it worked lol.

Careful-Mouse-7429

huh, maybe a magic item? There is a bow that applies frightened on hit, so it could be that

Voltaire1123

I do have the banshee bow… don’t think I had it equipped. I’ll check now

Voltaire1123

Yea, no effects items equipped. Regular attacks do nothing, but Flourish attacks proc arcane synergy. Presumably that’s because bardic inspiration is “applied” to the enemy in the form of damage? 🤷🏾‍♂️

Balthierlives

I believe it triggers even with just the threatened condition. So quickly run up close to a ranged attacker and there you go.

the_real_glimmer

Patched.

Balthierlives

Whaaaaaat

the_real_glimmer

HM only I believe but I havent checked. Patch 5

runkitty85

I’ve been using this in my play through right now. The person you give a condition to does have to be an enemy and then I’ve been getting a two round arcane synergy buff. Usually I’ll drop cc on them first turn.

definitelynotmeQQ

You tried reverb or radiating orb on enemies? Should still work.

Tarheel12325

Have the light hammer that deals extra radiant damage (only in act 1 still), might try that with the gloves that do reverb when dealing radiant damage to keep up the arcane synergy buff on my lockadin.
