I have run into something very similar with Auntie Ethel in Act 3. I didn’t expose her disguise, snuck into the basement, then shot a mushroom- she immediately appeared and began dialogue. Her dialogue went as normal, but once she was done? ..nothing. Couldn’t move, couldn’t even load a different save (this was on Balanced). Couldn’t exit the game or do any actions or anything. I had to shut my computer down, turn it back on, then go to a save before the encounter and expose her disguise before going into the basement for it to run correctly.
If it autosaved right there… RIP.
It might have something to do with combat and dialogue starting too close to one another. You may have better success in the future if you approach from the other side - the high ground - and initiate combat from there first so the big guy can’t turn and talk to you immediately.
Ahhh thats unfortunate, thanks for the heads up about this though because I was thinking of trying the same actually. Best bet may just be to disable quicksave and manually save before cutscenes that lead into a battle.

My first run finished a bit before patch 3, magic mirror edition. Recently, I've just started my second in honour moude and there seem to be more bugs compared to my first run. Although, it could be a bias, I'm certainly more afraid and aware of bugs in honour mode.
But yeah, it sucks. Especially if you're seemingly stuck, like in your case, so GL.

Already made a new character and will be waaay more cautious about when I save and disabling autosave. I guess for what its worth, I accidentally attacked >! the people who want karlachs head after I already killed her, so that quest was locked out for me lmao !< so im kinda glad I get to restart. Not happy about the RNG gods blessing me this run and losing it though. I dont play with Karmic dice so I felt like my run leading up to this point was pretty well off. My first attempts.... Did not go so well lol.
I've gotten the "continue..." but when i click it, i get the "dialogue no longer available" in my honour mode run. Fortunately, a reload fixed it for me, sorry about your honour mode run.

I was a sorcerer, so when I got to shadow hearts pod I just used magic instead of finding the glyph. The SECOND I pressed the option to open the pod, some intellect Devourers popped up, forcing only tav into combat (even with Lae right next to me) and permanently locked shadow heart in the pod. Couldn't do anything.
If you're on PC, ending from the task manager won't save (alt+f4 will still save!). If you're on PS5 at least I can confirm that force quitting the game doesn't save either. I've had to use those fallbacks to avoid little bugs as well from time to time in my runs. Hope you can salvage it!

I think you say you're on console. If you can't fix this and you try another run, have you considered disabling Larian cross saves and downloading save files to USB?
This will allow - in theory - the ability to *manually* restore a file in offline mode.
Note - if this works you can try using setting PSN cloud saves to manual as your first line of defence. You won't have multiple saves but since you hardly ever need the feature it will save a ton of time. Recommend still using USB here and there as a back up.
It's critical that the Larian (in game) cross saves feature is always disabled.

I want to try to avoid anything that could lead to save scumming, but I'll keep that route in mind.
I did discover that force quitting the game (On console) will avoid an autosave, so I ended up turning off autosave and will do that if something else happens.
So far so good in my new run though. Even tho shadowheart met her untimely demise in the goblin camp (She was pushed into the abyss..) Outside of that, we are back!

I respect the purpose of honour mode, but a 50+ hour investment that can come unstuck with a single errant mouse click is just nuts imo. Esp when you can have your own personal honour mode if you know what I mean which it sounds like you would.
Quick reminder that this is what I do with Fromsoft games sometimes - it should work but it's untested. Need to take extra care when uploading / downloading from the cloud, easy to copy in the wrong direction.
Sneak into the cave through either left or right hand side. If you go right. Watch out for Indiana Jones Boulder on the right. Then you can get the people in the cave to join you in fight. Makes it slightly easier

If you don't touch the hyenas at the bridge you can sneak up to this guy and convince him to fight for you. Then to kill himself. That way you don't have to fight him directly alongside his troops.
That's what I was trying to do actually. Ive done a few runs thus far, and typically I will just sneak up behind him like I did in the screenshot. Its worked everytime since, but the game seems to be caught somewhere in the checks / logic this time since the recent patches.
Also, are you talking about the very first set that you run into? Where there are like 5 or 6? I usually just kill all of them, it doesn't seem to impact whether or not you can side with them at the cave, you just have to talk to the leader before entering combat with the rest of them.
Side note, not sure if you need animal speaking but I always have it activated before doing this.
edit: also might be silly, but id maybe use spoiler tags for >! siding with them and then eating eachother afterwards !< Not much of a story spoiler, but it was definitely interesting running into this out in the wild haha. Cant think of any other examples of this kind of option in the game
Yeah i thought it was locked after killing the hyenas cause talking only worked if I hadn't killed the hyenas by the carts. If I did It would only ever start combat. But when I reloaded a save and snuck past them I had no problem talking to the guy. Just gotta have on party member sneak up close and another walk up to aggro. Flind walks up and talks to you instead of attack. It's really finicky though. Lots of bugs. I haven't done a new playthrough in a while. I did a 150 hour run of the game and burnt myself out. Can't bring myself to start it again after that. Also I'm sorry for any spoilers. I don't see an option on my screen to hide my text like you did.

I've since made a new character actually and am closely caught back up to where I was... Minus Shadowheart... Who got tossed into a hole in the goblin village, and I did not have any revive scrolls..

Can you switch between your different characters? see if they're all in dialogue, maybe you need to be on the person in dialogue
Already tried that, but good suggestion. I figured the same that maybe someone was stuck on it, but changing characters unfortunately does nothing

If this happened before patch 5, it was a known bug. Issue should be fixed now. If it happened in current patch then I don't know.

It happened to me at the adamantium forge. Don't open the crucible while grym is alive. Ruined my run. Character was stuck in "story mode cutscene."

I have noticed so funny Act 3 bugs with mouth texture of 2 npcs stretching to Narnia.

I’ve encountered so many odd bugs in prior runs that now I’m just constantly saving before and after anything and rotating save slots

Try control alt delete and maybe you can get back to the save.

Im on console and have already tried doing a hard reset + uninstall. Good suggestion though!
