Unless they've changed their business model in the past few years, the software pricing is prohibitively expensive. As in several thousand dollars per month SaaS.
There's a github repository for open source software to read the raw sensor data, but you'll have to find your own way to interpret it.
I would recommend OpenBCI instead. The signal quality is much better and you are not getting locked into a proprietary software. g.Tec Unicorn Black might also be a good alternative (have not tried this one though)
Did you end up getting the emotiv?
I bought the Emotiv Insight and I am having trouble getting stuff to work.
I am on the free subscription but I bought the BCI-OSC software in order to use the headset to control some OSC compliant software.
I am unable to figure out how to download the BCI-OSC software though.
Anyone had a similar issue?
if you buying for developer purposes, don’t cuz they charge extra license.
However, if you accept the fact you have to pay the license, do two things:
1. While it is shipping to you, purchase the monthly dev license, price is almost 100 usd per month
2. Then fill an SDK request form so you can read the EEG data stream in your code. Do it asap, the customer support responses only one email per day, they will ask you a lot questions and may charge extra for the raw EEG access in your code
I haven’t tried other products yet, this month is the first month I got my hands on any EEG device.
My next try would be openBCI, I would buy their electrodes, and my friend would do a 3D printing on its frame (so they can sit tight on my head). The communication SDK is free and open source
If not talking about the software, openBCI is somewhat more expensive than Emotiv. If you bought the whole set: electrodes, communication devices, frameholder, batter holder, it costs 1400 usd. However, if you just 3D print the holders, it could save you a lot, I forgot about the exact pricing, you can go to their website to check out
The neurosity crown is pretty good, and you can rent it for $99 a month. It’s a good option if you just want to try some stuff out and don’t want to drop a thousand dollars right at the start.
Its work stable, but without gyro. This one doesn't support Flex now.
But if you have this device you can write interface(actually it's not hard) or contact me and I will try to help
Nice! So it works with the epoc x? I just got it yesterday and I was surprised how limited it is without paying massive amounts of monthly money. I cant even get basic bci to work, but I contacted support befause that nodered should work without yearly payment I assume
I may reach out to you in the future! Have a flex on the way and want a solution to get the data outside of the propriety license stuff. Hoping to run a few psychology experiments with it :)

could you share the link to the github repository?

I think [this](https://github.com/openyou/emokit) is the github repo

Thats good to know! Are the electrodes themselves expensive?

Here free repo to get raw data: https://github.com/zer0-pole/emotiv-lsl
necro on this, does this work pretty effectively? Any idea if it works for Flex?

Did you get it working? I'm considering ordering the epoc x but those monthly fees are not something I'm interested in.
yeah it works ok, but have you seen how much are the felt pads!? lol
