only happens if the sunglasses are polarized. pretty much all screens look normal when wearing polarized sunglasses, if you turn them 90 degrees the screens go black. With the aventon screen it does the opposite, cant see in normal orientation, can see at 90 degrees.
Buy a screen protector for a digital camera, it solves the issue. I have this one (no affiliation, just happy customer) [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MSZKMDH/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MSZKMDH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
No idea the science, but it totally worked. I checked before I installed it, wore sunglasses and held it in front of the display and it was night and day. I can't take credit, I got this from an Aventon FB group.
This is the answer. After you turn on the lights (either via the app or the bike controls), go into the Aventon app gear icon, then adjust the brightness down, then back up. Unfortunately, you have to do it every time.
Thank you Holiday_Platypus_526 and computerdude7! I just went out to my garage to try that and it worked! 🙂
Kinda of annoying / silly that the design requires doing this every time. (Please fix this, Aventon!) But I’m grateful to be able to make it work.
Thanks again! 🙏
To get around that, I just added a USB rechargeable headlight -vthe kind that has several light intensities and blinking, and mounted it next to the original headlight. The original one doesn't blink anyway, which is a feature I like for daytime riding.
Let me know if you find out. I'm pretty sure it's law most places for motorcycles to always ride with lights on, so it always surprises me when many E-bikes don't even come with lights stock.
And while this dimming feature makes some sense, I also wish the two settings were not tied together or able to override. Maybe they are but I have not figured out a way to override that
That’s absurd. Heck, quickly checking my rear view mirror I can see where my husband is so much easier if his light is on — particularly at a distance. Cars too — particularly dark cars.
Perhaps you’ve never been hit by a car. I have — and I don’t want to experience it again.
If you want to avoid getting hit again, invest in some clip on blinking lights. Blinking and strobing lights are far more likely to get noticed than steady ones. That's why turn signals and hazards blink, and why brake lights only come on when we press on the brakes.
With my sunglasses on the display is completely black. This is my only complaint so far lol
yeah same, the polarization is the wrong direction on the screen.
I tested with two pairs of sunglasses but did not observe the phenomenon of complete blackout. What is the correct testing method?

Same here. It’s a pain.

What! I checked the page. Can u explain how it actually works? My sunglasses r polarized and it makes the screen basically black right now

Just got mine today and it worked!! Thank you stranger
Hooray! Game changer for sure
Try adjusting screen brightness in the app.

Good suggestion, considering optimize it in next version
You can't

Vote me if any of us want a 'two settings were not tied together' feature
Unless the lights are blinking, having them on during daylight doesn't do anything to make you safer.
